Report: Gadhafi Loyalists Kidnap Four Italian Journalists, Kill Driver

ROME (AP) — Italy’s foreign ministry says four Italian journalists have been kidnapped and their driver killed, apparently by Libyan regime loyalists, as they traveled down the highway to Tripoli.

The ministry said the newspaper journalists included two from the Milan daily Corriere della Sera, one from Turin’s La Stampa and one from Avvenire, a national Catholic daily.

It said the abductions occurred Wednesday on a stretch of highway between Zawiah, a town 50 kilometers (30 miles) west of Tripoli, and the Libyan capital.

Italian news reports said the Avvenire reporter was able to make a call to Milan saying the four Italians were OK.

It’s refreshing to be able to sit back and watch a war that has NO American involvement whatsoever for a change……………

“NO American involvement? That would be news to the American fighter, bomber, and fueling plane crews flying over Libya as I write this. True, fighter jets from France and England have been flying for NATO as well, but the bulk of the sorties have been by American pilots, not to mention the cruise missiles from ships. Yeah, you may want to rethink the “no involvement” statement.

Are you sure? You‘re sure we don’t have aircraft flying missions out of the Mediterranean into Libya? Are you sure we didn’t have a jet crash in Libya and have the crew rescued by Marines? Are you sure we didn’t have 1 (reported) UAV crash in Libya? We’re supporting. This time around the Brits, French, and I think Italians are putting most of the metal into meat, but we are there supporting combat operations especially with logistical support such as AWACS, Electronic Warfare, Aerial Refuling, Heavy Cargo Lift, Aerial Surveillance, and the sort. Not to mention actual bombing and cruise missile dropping. And I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if our CIA and Special Operations Command is working with the SAS and the Foreign Legion on the ground providing training, Close-Air-Support Forward Observation, and probably weapons & ammo to the opposition forces. But that’s merely a guess and I have no facts or inside information to back that up (read: I’m an armchair general). If nothing else, I’m sure at least the CIA is operating over there to get rid of Fuzzy Head and make sure the right thugs…er…leaders are put into key positions of authority.
