Report: Gov’t Agencies Slow to Implement ACORN Funding Restrictions

Report: Govt Agencies Slow to Implement ACORN Funding RestrictionsAccording to a report from the Government Accountability Office, 11 out of 27 federal agencies failed to promptly implement ACORN funding restriction even though lawmakers voted in 2009 to cut of funds.

“Not all agencies had taken action to implement the funding restriction provisions prior to when we began our review in August 2010,” the report determined. “Specifically, 11 agencies—CNCS, DOD, DOS, DOT, HHS, NASA, NEH, NARA, NSF, the Small Business Administration (SBA), and Social Security Administration (SSA)—indicated that they took action to implement the restriction, at least in part, as a result of our inquiries and subsequent conversations.”

It goes on to say that four agencies gave nine awards to various ACORN-related groups in FY 2010, including the Tides Foundation. However, it noted that some of those were later retracted while other recipients were determined to no longer have an ACORN affiliation:

For fiscal year 2010, four agencies initially made nine awards to organizations included in this report—specifically, Tides Center (six awards), ACORN Albuquerque (also known as ACORN Associates) (one award), ACORN Community Land Association of Louisiana (one award), and New York Agency for Community Affairs (one award), but the awards to the latter three organizations were retracted, and we determined that after 2009, Tides Center no longer had any indicators of affiliation with ACORN. For the first two quarters of fiscal year 2011, one agency made two awards to ACORN Housing Corporation (New Orleans)—currently Affordable Housing Centers of America (AHCOA). One of these awards was retracted, and in September 2010, we found that AHCOA did not have any indicators of affiliation with ACORN.

Still, despite its main branch essentially disbanding after being shamed by series of debacles — from registering the deceased to vote Democrat in 2008′s presidential election, to its employees telling an undercover pimp and prostitute how to launder money — it seems ACORN, like the phoenix, rises again.

Fox News reports that the community organizers, via their affiliates — or rather, new incarnations –might still eligible to collect federal dollars:

The report also revealed that some groups with past ties to ACORN may still be eligible for funding. For instance, the Department of Housing and Urban Development wrote a memo determining that Affordable Housing Centers of America, formerly known as ACORN Housing Corporation, was “not an ACORN subsidiary, affiliate, or allied organization.” Though ACORN Housing Corporation was formed in the 1980s by ACORN organizers and shared executives and addresses with ACORN itself, GAO reached a similar conclusion in September 2010.

    The man owns the agency as has ever president before him…this shove is just massive…typically it is just a nudge and I know for a fact that the federal employees quiver when they get a regime change…they know they will have to move either right or left and it become chaotic for a short time period before they get the machine up and running for the new president.

    For every penny taxed it takes 6 years for that penny to get back out to the public…that use to be the standard…But this HC is coming faster than any other law that I have witnessed, which means we have no funding to fund it in the first place. Crash and burn.

    Why don’t young conservatives infiltrate the liberal groups, become their leaders, and take them over? The weakness of groups is they need a cause, leaders, followers and money in order to survive and thrive. If we train our youth to infiltrate and become leaders of these groups we can take control of them. Our children are already being indoctrinated by the progressives in our schools so we don’t need to teach them how or what the opposition thinks.

Get out of the business of trying to influence the voters! The government has NO BUSINESS TRYING TO INFLUENCE the voter! It’s a lopsided game and the government has a HUGE ADVANTAGE!     Where does all this tapayer money come from? I thought we were desperately short of funding teachers, police and fire responders? Aren’t we letting thousands of prisioners back out on the streets due to lack of funding? THE TAXPAYERS ARE PUNISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR NOT SUPPORTING THEIR IDEALS.     This is the Executive branch of the government taking another step towards making Congress irrelevant. Congress is supposed to derive it’s power through control of the purse strings, and the Executive branch is ignoring them and spending money where and how it wants. Unfortunately we have people on both sides of the aisle in Congress who find party affiliation is more important then what is good for the country. What is most worrisome is not so much what is happening today as a result of their party loyalty, but what because of incremental steps what the result may be in the future.

    The Department heads need to be held accountable – fire them and whoever authorized the funding.
    Bad enough they gave money to ACORN but what in the world are they doing funding the Tides Center (George Soros). Get the money back from ACORN and Tides.

    This country is in desperate financial shape but we have money to give to the Tides Center. What a joke.

    Unfortunately this shows the continued support of corruption in our government. They will try to get away with everything they can until someone actually inquires or investigates.

    There are so many problems with our bloated government… Once our federal, state and local governments are reined in and shrunk back to “necessary size”, corruption will be far easier to discover and correct.

    Here’s the absurdity of the entire situation: had the CONSTITUTION been followed, there would be no FEDERAL MONEY to be given to groups like ACORN, which exist on both sides of the Political Aisle. We could have easily avoided all of this by simply maintaining the limitations on the Federal Government to perform services in its very limited and defined scope of authority. (Read the Constitution and its Amendments, and Constitutionally, it’s authority has not changed in over 200 years!) Instead, they treat it as a National Piggy Bank, seizing money from one group to give it to another. THAT’S the first place we need to change. It’s not about a “Fundamental Transformation” of our Government: it should be about a FUNDAMENTAL RESTORATION of it!

      But I love my country. We are encouraged to travel when we are young (known as the Big OE for overseas experience), but most of us eventually come home. Well, except for Sir William Pickering who ran your Voyager program.

      The absolute only way we are going to end this charade of them destroying our country is by all of us getting off our arse and running for office ourselves. This must start at the lowest level of government – cities and towns and townships and counties and work its way up toward the top. These antagonists didn’t just get into office over the course of the last few years — it’s been happening for decades because we were asleep at the wheel. We allowed this to happen so we are the only ones who can fix it.
      Go to public meetings and let your voice be heard
      Run for public office to begin to make changes.
      Write letters to your congress people and senators.
      Make phone calls to them.
      Do NOT let up the heat — it’s time to show them we mean business and will NOT stop nor get frustrated. We’ll just keep pushing on ourselves and in that way, we WILL win!
