Report: Iran Threatens to Deploy Navy Off U.S. Coast

Reuters is reporting that Iran has raised the possibility of sending Iranian warships close enough to U.S. shores to ratchet up tensions.
According to the official IRNA news agency, Iranian naval chief Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said:
“Like the arrogant powers that are present near our marine borders, we will also have a powerful presence close to American marine borders.”
Sayyari was speaking at a ceremony marking the 31st anniversary of the start of the 1980-1988 war with Iraq. He didn’t elaborate on the scale or timing of the possible naval deployment.
This Iranian saber-rattling comes on the heels of other recent provocations, including the passage of Iranian warships through the Suez Canal a few months ago, which marked the first time the Islamic Republic of Iran has ever deployed warships to the Mediterranean.
Also, Iran finally released two American hikers last week, after convicting them of espionage charges and holding them in prison for 781 days. The hikers have always maintained their innocence.

They can certainly afford to buy a more complicated one. Anyway, it wouldn’t have to be airborne – just detonate on a ship much like a homicide bomber and there you have it. Voila, instant Stone Age for much of the eastern seaboard of the US – for a long time.

A nuke is more simple in one regard, locate the target city and it goes away via ship or vehicle on the road.

Our SAT capabilities are extreme technology. There’s no subs that can penetrate anywhere near the US territorial waters without us knowing where, who, and how many, and have solutions already programmed in to exterminate them before they cross that barrier. An attack against the US Mainland, or our assets requires internal treason to happen.

Of course too, since America is the closest land, I would be able to bet that we would be able to claim internation salvage rights first as well. I’ve heard it called the American Triangle.

Anything goes wrong, their fault, our fault, nobody’s fault, that’s some dead Iranian warships. This close to our shores, there would be zero air cover for the Iranian ships. No air cover = easy pickings for Harpoon-equipped P3s and F/A-18s. Last I checked, the only ships that could reliably survive more than three Harpoon hits belong to the US.
Silly Iranians, “power projection” assumes you have some real power to project…and the means to protect it once you have it out there.

2. EMP’s are big, highly technical things and hard to deploy if they even exist outside of nuclear bomb explosions.
Take a deep breath, there’s nothing to worry about here. At worst some of our domestic fish will be forced to feed on Middle Eastern cuisine for a day or two.

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 4:06pmI know that you mean well with your post, but Iran doesn‘t have anything that could damage US capabilities You don’t have to take my word for it, but you’d be safe if you did. I personally think it would be pretty cool if they sent their entire fleet over. Their entire fleet would make an okay amusement park for our kids. Not quite up to the McDonalds play centers, but at least the Captains and crew members already resemble Ronald McDonald.

They would knock out radios , refigerators , microwaves , LITERALLY EVERTYTHING ELECTRICAL . What do you suppose our appeaser -in-chief will do about Iran ??? Nothing ! Sometimes , I wonder if this guy is a radical closet muslim working with the extremist to attack us . After all Obama comrade will have a safe place to hide.

I think I posted a tirade about that after the blaze started up. I bet 99% of the population don‘t have any clue how easy it is to send us back to the early 1900’s. I wonder how much would only survive. glad I live where I do.

Computers are my thing, but more directly, defense projects. Iran doesn’t possess anything that can threaten the US. Nothing. Sure they “might” be able to smuggle in a dirty bomb but beyond that? Nope. The US capabilities, even those that are public knowledge is 50 – 60 years advanced of even Soviet technology.
Iran has nothing that could harm the US grid, nothing. The only force on earth that could is an all out nuclear attack from a super power arsenal. Now if you wanted to talk about solar flares from the sun, sure, but nothing man-made is bring America down from the outside. Only a despotism on the inside can harm America.

They don’t need an actual EMP weapon, a nuke detonated in the upper atmosphere will have the same effect…
Secondly, there is a lot to worry about. The Iranian navy likes to grab people in international watters and hold on to them for a bit. Remember the Brits? These dip ***** can legally come with in 12 miles of our coast…
The only saving grace is if they do try it, they’ll do it with a Carrier Group escort and a few extra attack Subs in tow…

They may be old, but only one needs to work. Iran has already tested the ability of their medium range missiles to detonate in mid-course. Reconsider your smugness.

Posted on September 27, 2011 at 8:09pmDitto. The Iranians have developed IRBMs, are testing a ship-launched IRBM system, and want The Bomb in the worst possible way. If they pop a nuke in space over Kansas, we go from 2011 to perhaps 1711 in the blink of an eye, because all of this new, fancy technology is highly vulnerable to an EMP attack. No power & no communications will mean chaos and massive die-offs within the first year alone. Read the book “One Second After” if you want to see what post-EMP America looks like.
This is very dangerous and very much a provocation to the U.S.; our SSNs should be shadowing these Iranian vessels and pop them as soon as the Iranians pass through the Gilbratar Straight.
