Report: Iran’s First Nuclear Power Plant Now Online

TEHRAN, Iran (The Blaze/AP) — Iranian state radio says the country’s first nuclear power plant has been connected to the national power grid for a test run, making it the first Middle Eastern country to produce commercial electricity from atomic reactors.
The Sunday report quotes Mohammad Ahmadian, Iran’s deputy nuclear chief, as saying the plant began to generate 60 megawatts of electricity about midnight.
Ahmadian says a ceremony marking the connection to the power grid will be held Monday. He expressed hope the plant would feed the grid at full capacity in coming months.
The power plant in the southern Iranian port of Bushehr has a capacity of 1,000 megawatt power generations, or about 2.5 percent of the country’s energy consumption. Iran built the plant with Russian help.
The plant was supposed to go online over the past years but it was repeatedly postponed.
According to Reuters, experts say bringing the plant online will not bring Iran closer to building a nuclear bomb, because Russia will supply the enriched uranium for the reactor and will take back spent fuel that could be reprocessed into weapons-grade plutonium.
Iran said it will only be enriching uranium to lower levels necessary for power, medical or agricultural purposes.
Still, those declarations have done little to allay fears about the the country’s nuclear weapons intentions: Just last week, an International Atomic Energy Agency report said Iran was continuing to defy U.N. resolutions aimed at curbing its nuclear program, and cited increasing concerns it may be developing nuclear weapons.
In August, Iran finally allowed a U.N. inspector to view the site where it is developing advanced centrifuges that can be used to make nuclear fuel and to arm warheads. The move was considered a significant one after years of the country stonewalling IAEA requests for greater access.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 7:03pmThere’s nothing we could have done it was just a matter of time they have been working with the Russian’s on this reactor the only other thing we could have done is let Israel off there leash like Ron Paul wanted, we have been holding them back, like it or not they could have eliminated the threat a long time ago if we would have stayed out of it. we need to let Israel of its leash and let them do there stuff they can kick the crap out of Iran if we let them. So to those that want us to go in to help Iran with what money? borrow more money from china for another war? What if china says no? what then? By getting involved in other country’s politics we more often make things worse than better Ron Paul understands this and so did our forefathers.

That loss of life would not and cannot be acceptable. Iran has been doing this crap for years and they continuously disregard us and the rest of the sane world.
We cannot afford Iran to dictate who lives and who dies. Unfortunatey, Israel is looking down the barrell of a loaded gun (as they would be the first and or most likely target of an Iran offensive).

Posted on September 5, 2011 at 1:42amTime for Project THOR
Project Thor is an idea for a weapons system that launches kinetic projectiles from Earth orbit to damage targets on the ground. A pair of satellites orbiting several hundred miles above the Earth would serve as a weapons system. One functions as the targeting and communications platform while the other carries numerous tungsten rods—up to 20 feet in length and a foot in diameter—that it can drop on targets with less than 15 minutes’ notice. When instructed from the ground, the targeting satellite commands its partner to drop one of its darts. The guided rods enter the atmosphere, protected by a thermal coating, traveling at 36,000 feet per second—comparable to the speed of a meteor.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinetic_bombardment
http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/2004-06/rods-god
The key to Project Thor is the impact looks like a meteor strike rather than conventional weapons. It is hard to go before the UN and claim the evil west was responsible for a meteor strike.

Some U.S. officials also hoped that the arms sales would secure the release of hostages and allow U.S. intelligence agencies to fund the Nicaraguan Contras. Under the Boland Amendment, further funding of the Contras by the government had been prohibited by Congress. Imagine if Obama did that. It seems outrages are reserved only for the opposition party.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 7:13pmWhen we developed the first nuclear weapon and used it, we were extremely naive or egocentric if we thought we would be the only country with them in the future. Once the cat was let out of the bag it was impossible to put it back. I did not see Bush Sr, Clinton, GW Bush or Obama stopping them or anyone from getting nuclear power or weapons capability. So much for the USA and UN santions telling them they could not have it. Just like we told N Korea, Pakistan and India that they could not have nuclear weapons. Oops… they have them too.
The only way to stop them from making weapons is to go to war with them and defeat them. Is that where you want to go? Good idea- four wars. I think that we need to stay ahead of our enemies on our weapons development and mean what we say and say what we mean. The philosophy of MADD worked against the Soviet Union/Russia. If our threat to turn their country into glass were real they might think twice about pointing their missiles our way or towards our allies.
FYI santions only hurt the poor and middle class (if there is one). Dictators and the elite keep what they have, continue to take from the people and then have a new villain to blame for the hardship imposed upon the population. Freakin wake up… we are already in 3 wars do we need to add another?!! I guess we could add Syria and make it five. At least the politicians in Washington would be able to keep count so long as they have 5 fingers on their hand.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 7:36pmtrilo…Ron Paul supporter,
Thanks for showing up.
Now, to address your point. Sigh. Of course nobody wants another war. But, u miss one major key point to ur statement. You forget, much like Paul, that the world is made up of good and evil. It is nonsensical to think we’d be the only nation to make nuclear weapons, but we used the nuke for good, for defense. There are others that would have and will use it for evil.
Good vs evil. That is the real argument here. Nuclear weapons can be a huge asset, to a country like the US, Britain, Israel, etc. But the can be the world’s biggest curse if they are in the wrong hands, in this case, a crazed dictator who wants to literally melt Israel off the face of the earth.
Eyes up, man. U ever ask urself, “what if Hitler had him a nuke?”… I cringe at the thought.

If I am honest and my goal is peace, u would leave me be, becaus u know I am for good, for just justice. However, if I am bad and my actions and speech lead you to believe so, then u should want to remove the weapon from my hands.
Again, it is good vs evil. Common sense. Don’t swim with sharks.

Right. Here we go. Classic Ron Paulism. Ok. Let me be clear. Crystal clear. Good vs evil. Tha is the baseline. Iran equals evil. Israel equals good. Israel is our friend. Iran is not. They hate us. They will kill our friends if we do not help protect them, which we are not doing. Paul will not help them, he has said he will not interfere in the middle east, so if Iran decides to melt God’s chosen people, Paul will have some explaining to do (at least to this guy).
At the end of the day tho, I don’t have to worry about Paul, because he’s got about as much chance of winning the Presidency as I do. Fiscally, he’s smart. Internationally, he’s a dolt.
We need Obama outta office, first and foremost. Which means, we need to pick the best person for the job to do so. I do not think Paul is. Some say Perry isn’t. I will tell you one thing tho, we can’t let this jerko whos in there now win again.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 8:04pmWe’ve been assisting Israel military now for quite some time with technology and billions a year in aid. Iran is not a direct military threat to our homeland at this time, only to Israel. Israel will take care of this matter. If and when Iran ever becomes a threat to our homeland, we unleash hell. It will be over quick if our military is simply concerned about ending the threat, versus surgically invading Iran and destroying the threats. Iran has no air force, no navy. No nuclear weapon yet. Our military should only be used for defensive purposes, not pre-emptive strikes. We’ve seen how good our intelligence was with Iraq, and we now know there were other motivations for Iraq; not WMD’s but regime change and a footprint to launch more strikes against countries with vast strategic resources. We’re in how many wars now?
“I wouldn’t go to war again as I have done to protect some lousy investment of the bankers. There are only two things we should fight for. One is the defense of our homes and the other is the Bill of Rights. War for any other reason is simply a racket.” – Major Smedley Butler

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 7:14pmIf nuclear power is done right, it is far less dangerous than a coal power plant or an oil refinery. Also, just because they have a nuclear plant doesn’t mean they have a nuclear bomb (I wouldn’t care either way). Think about this, the limiting factor in any battle is a nation’s supply lines. This means that an oil rich country is far better at being able to supply thirsty war machines and get troops and munitions where they need to go. In this sense, an oil refinery is more of an implement of war than a nuclear power plant… unless your tanks run on battery power.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 6:14pmIn other news, we will find out about their first nuclear weapon going on line when news stops coming out of Israel.
All of you who wish to vote for Perry or any of the other republican run of the mill n=candidates, just remember – they will do nothing about this massive problem either. They let Kim Jong build his weapon in complete peace. We found out he was done when seismic sensors went off around the world.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 10:01pmVote for Obama, hmmmm, no thanks. Vote Ron Paul?…ha ha, Hebwont even get the nomination. He is a nut anyway. That leaves Perry, Romney, and Bachmann. Of the three, Bachmann stands the least chance of getting the bid. Perry and Romney will have to square off. Whoever faces Obama will win the Presidency, assuming all goes smoothly and Obama doesn’t become lord of the land. They will get into office and see the same crap Bush saw, the same stuff Obama sees and then and only then will they realize, this crap is truly heavy.
Be prepared folks. It is gonna be a bumpy ride.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 6:20pmYeah, they might use it to power rayguns or something. Oh my! Iran’s entire economy is based on energy. Going nuclear is the only sustainable option for them long-term. They would be stupid not to pursue it.

Posted on September 4, 2011 at 6:17pmI figure within the next 60 days it will go away from someone taking action.
One thing quite a few people do not get with Iran is that if someone wanted to really hurt them, the way is to deal with the gasoline distribution and refinement system. 90%+ of their gas for vehicles is imported, and they have one large refinery complex, from what I understand of the nation.
Imagine old Abe’s aide de camp (the abe who leads Iran):
Walking down halls to the office:
“Allah Akbar here I come….for the nuke plant is now done…the boss is going to shoot me…for the plant it now be…to the bosses sorrow….a massive pile of glowing rubble…”
