Report: NY Times, CNN, & CBS to Ride Along With Anti-Israel Gaza Flotilla

A correspondent for the liberal magazine The Nation is reporting that CNN and CBS have sent camera crews to join the new Gaza flotilla preparing to set sail from Greece in order to break an Israeli navy blockade. He also says he’s heard the New York Times has sent a reporter.
The messages came from Joseph Dana, who is in Greece and will be riding along with the flotilla, and his Twitter account:
At first glance, it might not seem odd that major news outlets are supposedly sending crews to cover the flotilla considering the debacle that ensued when the previous one tried to break the blockade last year. But Commentary points out why this might be concerning:
While it’s hard to blame reporters for seeking out a colorful story, they should realize by joining the activists on the boat they are actually making themselves a part of the story. They will be with the flotilla when it attempts to violate international law by trying to break Israel’s legally-established naval blockade. And they could potentially interfere with the Israeli military’s ability to do its job if IDF soldiers are forced to board the ships.

But the unfortunate downside is these reporters are giving the flotilla activists exactly what they’re aiming for – media attention. Seeing as there’s no humanitarian reason for the flotilla (which is even more obvious now that the Egyptian border with Gaza has been opened), its only point is to generate publicity. The activists are sure to receive a lot of media coverage this time around – and they won’t even have to resort to stabbing soldiers to get it.
As an interesting side note, one of the boats in the flotilla group is called the “Audacity of Hope.”

As a courtesy they should inform the ships of the mines and then if the ships continue knowing that the mines are there then it is on their heads. That would work on our borders as well. If you that there is a mine field and you walk into it anyway then there is only yourself to blame.

Fish nest with heavy steal cables floated into the path of the boat so that it is sucked into the propellers. This can be done with small high speed boats, C4 transport planes even helicopters. Then use tugs boats to keep them out of Israeli waters. Stand back and let them scream. No Israeli troops in harms way.

Naturally both the flotilla people and the journalists will put their own spin on the proceedings, but it will be better than the sort of he-said-she-said accounts we’ve had previously.

Does the media really want to be in a confined space and face military action?
An incoming missile could be the last thing caught on camera.
Or, maybe they are SIDING against Israel, and this is their effort to insulate the floatilla from military action.

These floatillas are not designed to provide humanitarian support.
True humanitarian support is already able to enter ports.
The standard of living does not necessitate humanitarian support.
The floatillas are designed to:
1) sneak in military attacks, weapons, etc.
2) raise public opinion against Israel
3) break public support of Israel
4) create a procedural hole which will allow FUTURE attacks, smuggling of weapons/terrorists, etc.
Or some combination thereof.
Israel should not be happy with media placing themselves in harms way – this could limit Israel’s options. But then again, Israel may be brave enough NOT to take the media’s presence into consideration. In which case the media better watch out!

The next time, the Israeli military are going to be just a tad more aggressive when they board the ship and expect that any video material will only be viewed by Israeli security personnel. And, oops, we tried to avoid harming any news people, but you know how collateral damage goes and it was so hard to tell them apart from the attackers, uh, sorry, I mean demonstraters.
