Laser-Like Focus: Obama‘s Jobs Council Hasn’t Met in Six Months

Hey, remember all those times we were told President Obama was focused like a laser (or something) on jobs? Yeah, we remember that too. Say, it must be awfully difficult to address the nation’s unemployment when, you know, your jobs council hasn’t met in six months.

Yes, you read that correctly: the president‘s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness hasn’t met since January 17.

“Coming off the worst quarter of job-creation in two years, and with the worst jobs record of any president in modern history, it’s clear President Obama has failed to live up to his promises,” said Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul.

“Yet President Obama is listening more to his campaign donors and special interest groups than to his own jobs council. That makes perfect sense for a president more concerned with re-election than getting the economy back on track,” she added.

With unemployment at 8.2 percent (and real unemployment much worse than that), some may think it rather odd that the president can find time to do back-to-back-to-back-to-back fundraisers and play his 100th round of golf but not find time to meet with this jobs panel.

But seriously, with the jobs situation as bad as it is, why hasn’t the president met with his much-touted panel? As it turns out, according to a new POLITICO report, there may be several reasons for this:

1) Considering that many of the council members are major business executives, some of them don’t want to meet during the campaign season for fear of appearing partisan.

2) A few members on the panel have declined to endorse President Obama and, in return, President Obama has declined to endorse their recommendations. What we‘re trying to say is that it’s like a cafeteria during recess and one kid won’t talk to another because their feelings are hurt (or something).

3) Some of the panel members have at some point been involved in outsourcing [you know, the thing Team Obama claims is literally the worst thing in the world].

“The thing is supposed to be bipartisan, so a lot of times they don’t want to get into things that could be used by either side in the election,” an anonymous former aide told POLITICO. “The businesspeople, for the most part, don’t want to get into the middle of political fighting.”

So, basically, what we’re being told is a) members of the much-touted jobs council don’t plan on coming out of hiding until after the election and b) President Obama has made little to no effort to change this.

Remember when the president said “This has not been a show council. This has been a work council”?

Yeah, we do too. Wasn’t that fun?

    If your goal is to destroy the economy this makes perfectly good sense.

    1) Destroy economy. Check
    2) Subvert Constitution. Check
    3) Divide and coquer population. Check
    4) Disarm the American people. UHHHHH!

    So the only reason he needs to serve a second term is to take our arms.

    I plan on giving mine up one bullet at a time.

      Well, Republicans would block in jobs bills the President proposed, like building roads or other infrastructure.

      But that reminds me. What’s the Republican jobs plan? Seriously, what is it. Cut taxes for the richest Americans again? Bush did it twice, and zero jobs were, but maybe the third time is a charm as they say.

      If Republicans have a jobs plan, what is it?

      JZS Republicans have authored 30 jobs bills that have been sitting on Harry Reid’s desk for some time now. That is where they will stay because he refuses to put them to a vote or even a debate.

      JZS,

      You haven’t been paying attention….The Republican plan is to get the government the hell out of the way and create a business friendly environment.

      It’s really not that difficult. Stop threatening businesses with new taxes and more regulations. Stop creating all this uncertainty in the marketplace.

      As a person who successfully ran a small business for 20 years, I speak from experience. I shut down my business in December of 2007…I could see the handwriting on the wall. I have a family to support and I knew that I would no longer be able to do it while supporting my famiily.

      The people who were my competition back then….(of the ones that are still trying to make a go of it), they are making about 20% of what they made back in 2006 and 2007. It’s pretty tough to take that kind of pay cut….and of course this administration expects that we would hire new help just to decrease the jobless numbers.

      Can you hear how preposterous that sounds? I know I made the right decision when I shut it down. It was a good ride while it lasted.

      JZS. The unemployment rate was 6.0 percent at the end of 2002. The major part of the Bush tax rate cuts took effect in 2003. By the end of 2006 the unemployment rate was down to 4.4 percent and tax revenues were substantially higher. You are flat out wrong.

    Comrades, Dear Leader is focused like a laser beam that works off a shut down coal fired electrical plant on jobs for the Middle Class! Well not really, but he say’s he is!
    Anyway one of the basic tenants he was taught was that the middle class must be destroyed so the revolution will be successful!
    So Dear Leader is actually focused like a laser beam on the middle class and has been doing a wonderful job of destroying the middle class. Give him just a little more time and we may, may, be a third world country. But only if we are still alive!

    If you look at the picture you can idendify two of the biggest crooks in the USA. On his left is Daily from the Daily Crime Family in Chicago. On his right is Jeffery Small the CEO of GE. Thats the company that not only moved most operations to China, screwqed the US taxpayers out of over a $$$$ BILLION Bucks by using loopholes.

    Here’s the not-so-obvious fact about this that makes it even more infuriating: Obama only HAS a “Jobs Council” for PR and Photo Op. purposes. He never intends to take any “council’s“ advice on ”jobs”. The fact that he doesn’t even use the Photo Op regularly speaks massive volumes. Although only to those who are not imbeciles.

      You should have read the small print. A job only applied to those that were big donors to his war chest. The bigger you gave the bigger your off shore account got. Look at those guys on Wall St.& Big Banks that he called vermon. They laughed all the way to the bank with as much as $ 5 Million from a black Santa Clause.     1) Plan to my next 5 vacations before the end of the year.

    This is an unfair criticism of the administration:

    1) They never promised which direction the laser would be pointed;

    2) They never explicitly stated that the laser would be operational;

    3) There was no specific requirement that the laser be turned to the ‘on’ position.

    So they do, in fact, have a laser-like focus on jobs. It‘s just sort of a ’North Korean Missile Program‘ or ’Chuck Schumer explains the three branches of government’ kind of laser.

      I think they put themselves in these committees, so they can go home and brag about all the meetings they had scheduled! Or it could be that their in a different meeting, planning on more ways to for the destruction of the US! Which is more important? The Destruction of America, or Jobs? I’m serious about this.

    This is because Barry’s constantly “pivotting” to “focus like a laser on jobs”. I believe this is the tenth or eleventh pivot to date. Anyway..with all that pivotting…the jobs council got dizzy and had to take a break for 6 months. Besides..”the economy’s doing just fine” according to little Barry. Oh and as usual…”don‘t pay attention to this month’s jobs numbers”.
    Mr Romney…you have a commercial here…get this stuff out so that the media cannot cover for Obama. The people need to know that Obama’s “jobs council” hasn’t met for 6 months while he bleats about “fair share” and “the middle class” and “Bain” and “tax returns”. Hammer the b@stard..don’t let him breathe.
