Report: Police Want to Use These X-Ray Scanners on New York City Streets

Police in New York City are  hoping an emerging radiation technology will one day help the Big Apple become a gun free zone.Police Want X Ray Gun Scanners To Deploy on New York City Streets

According to CBS News, The NYPD, along with the U.S. Department of Defense, are investigating an emerging technology that can detect concealed weapons on the human body via a special scanner placed in police vehicles.

Called Terahertz Imaging Detection, the scanner measures the energy radiating from a body up to 16 feet away, and will bounce back an image of anything blocking it– like a gun.

The NYPD, as the country’s largest local police agency– sometimes called the “seventh largest army” in the world at about 35,000 uniformed officers could be setting a worrying precedent for 2nd amendment and privacy advocates if it continues to push for this technology.

Already the debate has heated up, and WCBS-TV gives an overview of the gun scanners and the privacy concerns they raise in this video clip below (video may take a few minutes to load):

The New York Civil Liberties Union has already expressed its fears that terahertz imaging would violate privacy rights. “It’s worrisome. It implicates privacy, the right to walk down the street without being subjected to a virtual pat-down by the Police Department when you’re doing nothing wrong,” the NYCLU’s Donna Lieberman said.

Police Commissioner Kelly said the scanner would only be used in reasonably suspicious circumstances and could cut down on the number of stop-and-frisks on the street. He has claimed they would only be used at specific events or a shooting prone location.

Terahertz imaging technology already works, but NYPD wants it to be more portable and have a greater detection range before they consider outfitting patrol cars with this cutting-edge– and troubling– technology.

Very Soon Obama Care Will Not Cover Lung or Breast Cancer

See, when TSA started using X-Ray strip machines at airports, the COPs would want to use them out in the street, at supermarkets, the workplace, maybe at your front door.

Federal Courts have ruled that once you give up a Constitutional right like the Fifth Amendment, you can never get it back. You gave up your right against illegal search and seizure and will never get it back. Now you can be stopped and searched anywhere. Remember America is now legally a Battle Zone.

Hmmm let me see if i can remember the phrase that conservative republicans used to defend the Patriot Act when Bush first proposed it. “Only criminals should be worried….I‘m law biding so I don’t have to worry about wire tapes and searches that aren’t based on a warrant.” As Ron Paul so clearly points out, we would all do much better with a smaller government. But alas everyone wants government to promote their agenda and ideology. In the end the people are the problem.

Look at the surging numbers not only of gun purchases, but also open carry movements and concealed carry license grants over the last 10 years. The trend is exactly opposite of NYC in most places, and growing by leaps and bounds. Not everything that hellhole does is emulated any longer, lots of folks finally saying “wait, what?!? These unconstitutional invasions into our privacy will continue as long as we have useful idiots like Police Commissioner Ray Kelly who thinks such violation of his fellow citizens is a great idea. The position of P.C. is charged with preserving the constitutional freedoms of all Americans, not violating them at every opportunity with the use of the latest untested, dangerous technology. And that, in and of itself, bodes poorly if and when TSHTF – don’t look to your police department for protection when the “ists” (fascists, MAOists, Marxists, socialists, or whatever) start wholesale violations of the Constitution. Police officers like Ray Kelly will view you as a troublemaker for speaking out and will use whatever level of force he believes necessary to “restore order.” Be afraid, be very afraid.

One doesn‘t carry a self defense weapon thinking that they’re going to save the day. One carries a self defense weapon as a last recourse. Many a rape or murder victim who wandered out of the house on their last day would probably have given anything for such an opportunity.

The “I don‘t care because it doesn’t affect me” is a bad attitude to take regarding any civil liberty. If you don’t care about your 4th Amendment liberties, then you clearly won‘t care when you’re stripped of all of your rights and find yourself some day in a dank cell. Rest assured, if you don’t care for the common weal, the common weal will not care for you when your time comes.

Try truly thinking for yourself. I can respect your right to not bear arms, and don’t begrudge you that, but I would expect a similar level of respect in return. If you truly do not care about individual rights on any level however, don’t expect anybody to defend *your* right to not have you “beans” irradiated off as you say you don’t want.

It’s not a matter of how many guns you own and how much ammo you own for them. It’s a matter of whether you carry a firearm daily for self defense. I can own all of the weapons in the world, if I’m restricted from removing them from my home for most purposes, they don’t amount to a hill of beans. The way to prevent finding yourself in lockdown waiting to “go out in a blaze of glory” is to in fact not wait for such an event, rather, walk out of your home peacefully armed, as any free man has the right to do. Don’t worry, the govt assures us that –
    1) The radiation is “safe.” (Recall that Love Canal was pushed by the govt as “safe” and our soldiers were subjected to nuclear detonations and fallout…)
    2) It will only be used for “official” police business. (Not to spy on wives/husbands/political opponents.)
    3) Only highly trained personnel will be able to operate it. (At least a GED will be required!)

So, no worries people! I‘m from the govt and I’m here to help!!

Big brother says: “Quit smoking, it might cause cancer. By the way, we‘re going to irradiate you constantly to make sure you don’t have any contraband, but don’t worry, the radiation is probably totally safe, after all, it’s NEVER been linked to cancer at all…right?”

So what will the criminals do as a work around on this….because we all know that the criminals will find a way so the guns do not show up. The only people that will be hurt by this are the law abiding citizens.

Sounds like aluminum foil might be used to ‘foil” the scanners (pun intended)

Okay, so when is enough enough? It is obvious that the liberals/progressives are well organized and have a plan….when will conservatives and those who believe in freedom become organized and fight back instead of just making comments such as “well there goes another freedom”?

I have been thinking a lot on this subject lately and I have become convinced that the only way we will ever be free again is to go back low/no technology and an agrarian lifestyle.

As that is not going to happen anytime soon…at least through choice…I suppose big brother is here to stay. Get used to it.

No. Technology is value neutral. You had agrarian low tech societies throughout history, hell dude, throughout most history in the world and time, where you were subject to onerous search at the whim of whatever prince rode through town, and if you didn’t consent, you got run through.

It’s not a matter of the technology level, it‘s a matter of how it’s used. For every bad use of technology, there’s a good use. For example, to deal with x-ray cameras (high tech) one should use a bolt action rifle (medium tech). It all works out in the long run.

It still amazes me that cities can pick and choose which ammendments to the constitution they wish to abide by.

What amazes me is criminal organizations like NAACP and ACLU go around hiring teams of lawyers, getting these unconstitutional laws upheld in courts around the nation, and none of the churches, communities, lawyers, etc haven’t teamed up to stop them.

Easy answer, there. They won‘t stop until they’ve stripped us of every right that made us different from the Soviet Union.

They’ll stop when you, you personally, stand up and say “no” and start proudly exercising your inalienable rights without shame, and convince others to do so. Don’t wait for others to get the ball rolling, start the ball rolling yourself.

I open carry a lot now (in Ohio), to hell with what people think of it I say. It’s time to be open about our freedoms, we’ve acted the part of the cowed animal for too long. We’re men, not pack beasts and cattle, and it’s time to act like it again.

They’ll stop when enough of them are fed a lead pill and the message gets through their thick skulls that we Americans will not tolerate tyranny in any way, shape, or form, in our country.
