Report: Rep. Anthony Weiner Wants ObamaCare Waiver for NYC

Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., one of the most outspoken supporters of President Obama’s landmark health care overhaul just one year ago, is reportedly now looking into how a health law waiver might work for his constituents in the Big Apple.
After recently encouraging Democrats to stop “hiding under our desks” and to “be proud of” the unpopular law, the likely mayoral candidate is shopping for alternatives.
Politico reports:
“The president said, ‘If you have better ideas that can accomplish the same thing, go for it,’” said Weiner. “I’m in the process now of trying to see if we can take [President Barack Obama] up on it in the city of New York, … and I’m taking a look at all of the money we spend in Medicaid and Medicare and maybe New York City can come up with a better plan.”
New York is one of two states that pass on Medicaid expenses to cities and localities, so “the city winds up having an enormous Medicaid expense,” Weiner said.
The congressman was trying to debunk Republican “myths” about the health care law during a speech at the Center for American Progress. He used the waivers as way to describe how flexible the law actually is and how “this notion that the government is shoving the bill down people’s throats” is not true.
“The administration needs to make this argument more forcefully,” he said. “A lot of people who got waivers were … people who are our friends.”
The New York Democrat said that he does not have the power to get the city to apply for a waiver but that he is “personally looking at whether he can make the numbers work.”
“We in New York already have hospitals, we already employ doctors and we employ nurses. We have a lot of uninsured people. … [Setting up] the exchanges is the one piece of the puzzle that would be difficult for us to do,” he said. “I’m just looking internally to whether the city can save money and have more control over its own destiny.

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 9:38pmHey, Weiner, Why is it that I cannot deduct the cost of my health care insurance from MY income taxes? I worked, part-time for three employers last year (some, concurrently), but drew W-2 wages and NOT 1099 income! I received NO benefits and NO healthcare coverage from these ‘employers’, yet they set the hours, provided equipment and told me what to do, so I‘d be declared a ’Statutory Employee’ if I tried to collect 1099 income! If my employers provided health coverage, they could deduct it as a business expense. If I drew 1099 income, I could deduct health insurance costs on my Schedule C as a business expense! But, NO-O-O-O, if I work my ass off for W-2 wages, I have to pay full pop for the health insurance coverage I have to provide in order to qualify for my HSA (Health ‘Savings’ Account)! I‘m a Seasoned Citizen and don’t want to claim any more than I absolutely have to (and am surely entitled to after paying 15% of my earnings over my entire working career)! But, if you clowns favor the corporate citizen over the natural person and favor ‘freelancers’ over ‘part-timers’, then I don’t see how I am EVER going to make it! (Although we all arrive at the big, pine box at some point in our lives!) Fix It! Don’t futch it up!

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 9:35pmwe got a letter from our (private construction trades) union today that informs us we got a waiver from obamacare (after we lost 14% of our net checks to hc ins premium increases last Aug and Oct) …and we will LOSE our hc plan gradually, some by 2011,ome by 2012 and by Jan 2014 we will be on obamacare. our retiree hc plan goes by 2012. .. this family has 3 generations of dues paying members whose sweat soaked tax dollars go to support the leeches and thugs in the public unions and our private union dues (we find out now) go 76% to the filthy DNC aka the Abortion Party.

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 10:37pmYou got a waiver on oboma care which will end up being NO care. Even little weiner has got that figured out. Good to see he finally read the bill. I feel for you. At least my insurance has to cover a pre existing condition which doesn’t effect my over all health. Problem is , in order to cover my pre existing condition my rate went sky high to a point I no longer can afford it. So for me oboma care= no care.

Report Post »Hey dude…welcome to the real world where most of the non-union employed do not have Socialistic, Marxist union leaders telling us whats best for the companies employees…I never had anyone or any union backing me up as a sales rep…just an employee at will contract that allows management to fire you without reason (like if your shoes don’t match your gone)…guess its the same thing here…of course your company will pay the small penalty for not offering healthcare instead of reaching deep in their pockets to keep your fellow smoking drinking unhealthy lifestyle employees healthy with expensive healthcare costs. Or you can start your own job if you have a skill or talent that can generate enough income for you to provide your family with healthcare….e4 i think is the solution…even if you dont have the means to be in business for yourself…try it….i’m sure you will be very successful at whatever endeavor you choice for yourself

Posted on March 23, 2011 at 10:12pmAnd weiner knew it was crock from the start. He said there are too many folks in NYC that don’t have insurance and is afraid insuring these folks would overwhelm the system. I thought the passing of oboma care meant these people would have affordable insurance? Oops they never told the people that they wouldn‘t be able to afford to have insurance and since the city can’t afford this so called affordable insurance…… Well more people are going to end up not having insurance. BAM/Fail!

A Weiner should man up, get close to Barney Frank, and declare their love for Obamacare. They should also insist since they love it soooo much, all their constituents WILL sign up and participate, or be fined. Of course all the IRS letters should be personally signed by Weiner and Rangel. Frank is on his own.
