Rick Santorum Suspends Presidential Campaign

Rick Santorum is suspending his presidential campaign, effective today.
The Republican candidate announced the news at a conference in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Tuesday afternoon.
You can watch the full conference below:
“I want to thank everybody for the outpouring of prayers over the past weekend, we had a difficult weekend,” Santorum began. Though his daughter was recently hospitalized, he said she is a “fighter” and they look forward to spending more time with her.
The event led Santorum to consider his role as a parent, he said, weighed against concerns that his children would not be able to pursue the American dream in the future.
“I‘m for Bella’s dad,” he recalls a supporter saying, demonstrating how his campaign was able to blend a strong family with a strong campaign.
“It’s been wonderful, story after story,” he continued. “It turns out that it wasn’t really my voice that I was out communicating, it was your voice.”
Explaining how he tried to run a positive campaign, Santorum says he tried to embody the hopes of Americans, while addressing real issues like Iran.
“What I tried to bring to the battle was what Abraham Lincoln brought to this battlefield…that all men are created equal.” This is the heart of American exceptionalism, he said, and who we are.
“This presidential race is over for me, and we will suspend our campaign effective today, but we are not done fighting,” he said. They will continue to speak for the Americans that gave them the “air under their wings” that no political expert expected.
This country needs leaders who will “raise us up,“ instead of ”trying to do for us what we can better do for ourselves,” he added. “The game is far from over,” he reiterated, he will just be acting in a different capacity in the future.
“Thank you very much, and God bless,” he ended.
Rick Santorum is considered by many to be the last viable alternative to Mitt Romney as the Republican nominee for president. Though he originally vowed to stay in the race and win his home state of Pennsylvania on April 24, recent polls show Romney was in “striking distance” of winning the state.
Reactions to Santorum’s decision have been swift.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said: “Today, Senator Santorum has made a commendable decision. He has decided to put his country, party, and desire to defeat President Obama ahead of any personal ambition. I applaud his decision and congratulate him on the campaign he has run.”
Newt Gingrich said: “Rick has waged a remarkable campaign. His success is a testament to his tenacity and the power of conservative principles…I humbly ask Sen. Santorum’s supporters to visit Newt.org to review my conservative record and join us as we bring these values to Tampa…We know well that only a conservative can protect life, defend the Constitution, restore jobs and growth and return to a balanced budget.”
This is a breaking story. Updates will be added.

Not necessary a fan of that, but Romney does not have a very wide appeal when you actually look at his issues. He aligns himself with Obama’s policies, which is against the Republican parties outward goals. Not to mention, some people won’t vote for him just because he is Mormon.

Romney ABSOLUTELY has the best chance to beat Obama out of all the candidates according to every reputable poll out there.

Posted on April 10, 2012 at 3:03pmWell, with Rick Santorum the warmonger and technocrat out of the race for good, Newt Gingrich is the only other neo-conservative candidate besides Mitt Romney that’s still fighting tooth and nail to beat Ron Paul in the primary election. I‘m willing to bet that it won’t be too long before Newt decides to drop out as well, having understood that he, like Rick, failed to reach the Virginia ballot after failing to garner sufficient signatures. Soon the primary election will only be between Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, and anyone that’s passionate about abiding by and defending the Constitution and preserving liberty would have no problem going for the candidate whose voting record has aligned with the Constitution during his entire time in office. Ron Paul happens to be the only candidate with such a record.

I agree. Better to let the Marxist take the blame as opposed to somebody that is “tagged” as a Republican. We’re already taking on water the way it is. To have another failure (even if Romney doesn’t fail, the media and revisionist historians will blame everything they don’t “perceive” as working” on the Republican.)
As much as I’d hate to see Obama with 4 more years, it might be the wake-up call the head-in-the-sand crowd needs to buckle down and pay attention. The major downside would be Supreme Court justice nominations, but with a guy like Romney, we’d probably see more “Souter’s“ than ”Alito’s”.

Posted on April 10, 2012 at 3:23pmIt’s unfortunate that Santorum was forced to quit because of family issues. I hope his daughter gets better.
The same thing was true of Cain, who was taken out by false accusations of infidelity. I actually think he was taken out because there were people who didn’t want Cain to have to discuss his work at the Fed with Ron Paul, and the fact he was absolutely clueless about the housing bubble.
In both of these cases, I wanted them to be taken out in discussions with Ron Paul about the economy and foreign policy. But they left before that could happen.
Having said that, Santorum tried to help rig the caucuses against Ron Paul. So not only is he not a Constitutionalist, but he is untrustworthy.

Posted on April 10, 2012 at 3:36pmFor those who say we have to unite behind Romney just to get rid of Obama, I have an honest question to ask. We all know everything is about to collapse, and the only way to stop that is to have a president that will completely reverse course. We know that Romney will not do this. He’s anti-2nd amendment, he will not open up all domestic sources of energy, and he will not fight for the full repeal of Obamacare. He also is pro illegal alien. So, knowing he will continue the course we are already on, even if he just slows it down, everything will still collapse. When it does, if he is president, the left will scream that it’s all the republicans faults, and people will buy into it, and we’ll never have another conservative president in our lifetime. I also believe war will happen when everything collapses. Do you want to see the war aimed at “conservatives”? Or would it be better for the people fighting to see undoubtedly that it’s the progressives fault since they are in charge? I don’t want war either way, but at this point, I‘m not sure there’s a way out. Please tell me where I’m wrong in thinking this. I pray I am, but does anybody really believe that Romney will do a full reverse?

be Bless’d Brother….
you fought a good fight and lifted the discussion to the level required…
the stage is set now for all to see where this country truly will go -
I know this will raise some hackles,
but before all of you go jump on the Mitt train,
please….
Please…….
say your prayers tonight and look deep into this moment.
ask our Heavenly Father to open our eyes and reveal to us what would fulfill His desire for us-
My humblest opinion?
this is not a game…
this is not some “event” like the gladiator games… thumbs up or down-
no,
this is something much much more.
Newt has issues, yes…
and so does Mitt.
We all do, if you really boil it down!
but if you think a moment,
i’m not so sure this is a matter of picking a side so as to simply “win”.
Again, something bigger is at stake here.
I’m not sure I want a “wrestler” – someone to get down and overpower through shear force or endurance….
I want to have the arguement –
I believe Newt is a spiritual man.
I pray he is going before the Lord and seeking and listening.
I pray he has asked for any forgiveness he needs…
I pray he has the relationship with Yeshua and knows The Way.
I think we have truly come to a point where its time to stand up.
call it what it is and hold nothing back in the discourse.
If this world is so far gone, then nothing will alter the course.
But if we “Appeal to Heaven”
perhaps…..
Be Bless’d

Romney is backed by Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse Group, Morgan Stanley, HIG Capital, Barclays, Kirkland & Ellis, Bank of America, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, EMC Corp, JPMorgan Chase, the same that backed Obama in ‘08 and still back Obama now. They do not care which one is elected in November as they are basically one in the same for them and their agenda.
Paul’s largest contributors are the USAF, US Navy, US Army and individuals. If I was to be elected POTUS, I would rather be beholden to the American people and our military over those corrupt world corporations, some of whom are based overseas! Romney’s won a profound victory despite running against 3 other candidates that is historic and the media. (There wasn’t one channel on any show that I could escape Sicky Rantorum. There are very few attacks on Romney that have been true. Including what you just said. Romney has won this overwhelming victory through brains, planning, strategy, preparation, steadiness, presidential demeanor, letting facts (and candidates) speak for themselves (which is usually their undoing), and by being a gentleman.

Man, you must’ve REALLY allowed all that propogranda-laced Kool-Aid from the lame-stream media to mess with your brain cells. Mitt Romney IS a pushover. His viewpoints are virtually only based on what’s popular at the moment – if he thinks that his current viewpoint is going to cause him to drive away some of his supporters, he’ll just swap that viewpoint out for one that he thinks will bring him more popularity.
Here‘s this YouTube video showcasing Mitt Romney’s history of flip-flopping: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9njHHyRI7g

There’s not much of a difference between Obama and Romney.
They are both Keynesians, which means that they both believe government helps the economy; In fact this is what Bush Jr. believed, too.
Obama is using Americans’ ignorance of the fact that Bush grew government to try to make the free market look bad. Romney will make it look bad, too, and the Marxists are ready to blame the free market when Romney’s crony Capitalism and government interventions fail to keep the corrections from coming – corrections which are necessary because of Bush, Obama, and yes, Reagan, too.
The corrections must come, so the crash is coming, no matter what; But only Ron Paul has credibility with regard to economics because he foresaw the housing market crash in 2001.
Obama will not be able to successfully blame the free market for the recent crash, or this crash to come, to Ron Paul’s face. Game over, if they ever debate each other.

Romney fully understands how the government can make the economy grow – by getting out of the way!
Here‘s a quote from a recent article regarding Romney and Netanyahu’s friendship since the 1970′s –
“Mr. Netanyahu, who had recently stepped down as Israel’s finance minister, regaled Mr. Romney with stories of how, in the tradition of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, he had challenged unionized workers over control of their pensions, reduced taxes and privatized formerly government-run industries, reducing the role of government in private enterprise.
He encouraged Mr. Romney to look for ways to do the same. As Mr. Romney recalled, Mr. Netanyahu told him of a favorite memory from basic training about a soldier trying to race his comrades with a fat man atop his shoulders. Naturally, he loses.
“Government,” Mr. Romney recalled him saying, “is the guy on your shoulders.”
As governor, Mr. Romney said, he frequently repeated the story to the heads of various agencies, reminding them that their job as regulators was to ‘catch the bad guys, but also to encourage the good guys and to make business more successful in our state.’”

What misconceptions? You just quoted him as saying that of which I have accused him.
He believes that the economy needs to be regulated and that it‘s government’s job to “encourage the good guys”. No it doesn’t, and no it isn’t.
When government tries to regulate the economy, it results in net losses. Government CANNOT regulate the economy – it’s IMPOSSIBLE. Government is not a market player: it gets its funding from the private sector, so the private sector is necessarily PRIOR TO the government.
We expect the government to remain within Constitutional limits, and that does not include regulating the economy.
(The Commerce Clause has been misrepresented by Marxists. First of all, it only applies between the several states, and between states and the Native American Tribes, and between our nation and others. Second, it merely meant to “make regular”, such that the relevant parties didn’t defraud each other.)

I COMPLETELY AND 100% AGREE WITH YOU that the commerce clause (Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 of the Constitution) has been taken beyond anything the original founders could have ever imagined. However, the fact that a commerce clause does exist clearly shows that the founders intended to have at least SOME regulation of the economy (interstate commerce as you have indicated). I do agree that once the Supreme Court started using an “aggregate” theory to test such limits, things started going downhill.
As for regulation at a state level, the Constitution has given the states much more power (the 10th Amendment).
Thus, constitutionally speaking, some regulation is appropriate, but too much is not. Romney is directly in line with these constitutional principles.
Thank you for engaging in a civil discussion!

“However, the fact that a commerce clause does exist clearly shows that the founders intended to have at least SOME regulation of the economy (interstate commerce as you have indicated).”
No, that’s a misunderstanding of the word “regulation”. It didn’t mean what we take it to mean today.
The Constitution did not intend for government to “regulate”, as we understand the term today, the economy.
“As for regulation at a state level, the Constitution has given the states much more power (the 10th Amendment).
“Thus, constitutionally speaking, some regulation is appropriate, but too much is not. Romney is directly in line with these constitutional principles.”
While the Constitution technically retains the rights of the several states to regulate many things, it’s inconsistent of a participant of a Constitutional Republic, whose goal is to secure individual liberty, to regulate the economy, because it restricts free trade.
Further, it is logically impossible for government to regulate the economy and have a net gain. It can’t be done.
Further still, the goals of many regulations are based on a Marxist economic thinking. For example, it is believed that if there are a tiny amount of sellers of something in a free market, then that’s a bad thing. This isn’t true.
“Thank you for engaging in a civil discussion!”

Posted on April 11, 2012 at 4:25pm@A DOCTORS LABOR IS NOT MY RIGHT –
It is irrefutable that the Constitution and thus, the founders, intended the government some regulatory powers over commerce (i.e. economic matters). The Constitution EXPRESSLY states that Congress MAY REGULATE commerce. You acknowledge such, yet allege that the term “regulation” has been changed. The definition of “regulate” has not changed, but the limits of that regulation has. Is that what you mean? If so, we already have agreed to such. If not, I would appreciate an citation of a definition from when the Constitution was adopted in 1787 versus a conflicting definition from 2012.
Therefore, again, it is irrefutable that the Constitution grants certain regulatory powers over commerce and that the States have even more power to do such.
I think this is where libertarians loose a lot of people – when they think that regulation of VIRTUALLY ANYTHING is unconstitutional… when the Constitution is in direct conflict with such a standing.

Look at how it’s written: “The Congress shall have Power … To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;”
Whatever “regulate commerce” means, it is being applied to three scenarios. Whatever it means in one scenario, it has to mean in the others; More importantly, for our purposes, whatever it CAN’T mean in one scenario, it also cannot mean in the others.
Since “regulate commerce” CANNOT mean to control what is produced and sold within and among other countries, in the case of trade with foreign nations, it also cannot mean to control what is produced and sold within and among the states, in the case of trade among the several states.
Ergo, the Constitutional power of the national government to “regulate commerce” does not entail restrictions on what is produced and sold.
The purpose of “regulating commerce” was to remove impediments to FREE trade, such as tarrifs.
States retain, as a matter of state sovereignty, the power to regulate commerce in the sense that you mean, but again, this is inconsistent with membership in a federation who’s stated goal is to secure individual liberty.
It should also be noted that membership in the United States restricts state governments to the republican form of government, rather than a democracy.

Federalist Papers #22
http://constitution.org/fed/federa22.htm
“The interfering and unneighborly regulations of some States, contrary to the true spirit of the Union, have, in different instances, given just cause of umbrage and complaint to others, and it is to be feared that examples of this nature, if not restrained by a national control, would be multiplied and extended till they became not less serious sources of animosity and discord than injurious impediments to the intcrcourse between the different parts of the Confederacy. “The commerce of the German empire2 is in continual trammels from the multiplicity of the duties which the several princes and states exact upon the merchandises passing through their territories, by means of which the fine streams and navigable rivers with which Germany is so happily watered are rendered almost useless.” Though the genius of the people of this country might never permit this description to be strictly applicable to us, yet we may reasonably expect, from the gradual conflicts of State regulations, that the citizens of each would at length come to be considered and treated by the others in no better light than that of foreigners and aliens.”

Unless you fall under Section 1021(b) then you have nothing to worry about.
(b) COVERED PERSONS.—A covered person under this section is any person as follows:
(1) A person who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored those responsible for those attacks.
(2) A person who was a part of or substantially supported al-Qaeda, the Taliban, or associated forces that are engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners, including any person who has committed a belligerent act or has directly supported such hostilities in aid of such enemy
forces.
Do you fit any of those descriptions???
Further, read subsection (e)
(e) AUTHORITIES.—Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.
And in case you’re wondering like your colleague, no, I’m not really the son of Hitler.

Further, you failed to address any of the EXPRESS LANGUAGE of the NDAA directly rebutting EVERYTHING that you believe about the bill. Guess what – in court, you can’t cite youtube.
PS. here’s some more EXPRESS LANGUAGE from the NDAA that rebuts what you believe about how people can be detained indefinitely…
(c) DISPOSITION UNDER LAW OF WAR.—The disposition of a person under the law of war as described in subsection (a) may include the following:
(1) Detention under the law of war without trial until the end of the hostilities authorized by the Authorization for Use of Military Force.
(2) Trial under chapter 47A of title 10, United States Code (as amended by the Military Commissions Act of 2009 (title XVIII of Public Law 111–84)).
(3) Transfer for trial by an alternative court or competent tribunal having lawful jurisdiction.
(4) Transfer to the custody or control of the person’s country of origin, any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity.
Even if a TERRORIST (NOT A U.S. CITIZEN – See the aforementioned subsection (e)) was detained, they can only be detained until those certain hostilities were over – thus it is NOT “indefinite” because it has a defined limit.
Again, it is spelled out DIRECTLY IN THE NDAA that the rights of US citizens are not changed by this bill.
Do you really not understand that???
I guess their letting just anyone into youtube university now! lol

Romney is not 2nd amendment friendly. He has the philosophy of many progressives that the 2nd amendment is about hunting. It has nothing whatsoever to do with hunting. Progressives use this thinking to ban assault weapons (like Romney did in Mass.) and handguns, and in their feeble minds, they can say they are still for the 2nd amendment because they are going to let us keep our shotguns.

He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies!
Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war… For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellers there is safety.
On June 1, 1812, President James Madison sent a message to the Congress recounting American grievances against Great Britain, though not specifically calling for a declaration of war. After Madison’s message, the House of Representatives deliberated for four days behind closed doors before voting (79 to 49) the first declaration of war, and the Senate agreed by 19 to 13. The conflict began formally on June 18, 1812, when Madison signed the measure into law. This was the first time that the United States had declared war on another nation, and the Congressional vote would prove to be the closest vote to declare war in American history.

I’m running for President of the United States because I believe that our traditions and way of life are under attack from an out-of-control federal government and reckless politicians who show no regard for what our Founders entrusted to our protection. America became the greatest nation in human history because a dedicated band of Patriots believed their God-given rights were worth fighting for, even if it meant challenging the world’s most powerful nation in what many deemed a “hopeless” cause. Being free meant so much to our forefathers that they put everything on the line – and thousands sacrificed their lives – to give the promise of liberty to not only their children and grandchildren, but to generations they knew they would never even meet…

TIME_2_GET_A_CLUE enjoys attacking American Patriots, and lies in wait to distort the truth.
Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people… An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire… A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.
TIME_2_GET_OUT_OF_THE_US is creating unneeded animosity, hate, and division among us Conservatives, Republicans, Libertarians, Constitutionalists and Independents. THE TEA PARTY UNITED ALL TRUE PATRIOTIC AMERICANS. That’s how we won the House in 2010. We, irregardless of our background, united as Republicans, and voted out incmbent Democrats and Republicans, and elected instead true fiscal conservatives, small Government candidates, and TEA party candidates. The Spirit of Liberty comes from God, not man. We looked to our God given freedom, and not man made organizations. We put our earthly differences aside, and united as one nation. Romney-656
Santorum-272 up for grabs of which Paul may get 5% if he continues to do as he has thus far
Gingrich-140
Paul-67
So Paul is about a solid 5% in actual delegate count, congratulations. At the end of the campaign he will receive an actual “Participant Certificate”.

I would bet you that out of the 656 delegates that are credited to Romney, 200 are Paul Supporters. It matters not what the lame stream media says the count is in a brokered convention, but who’s supporters have the delegate slots. I know that many Paul supporters have gone in and got slots pretending to be for other candidates, sorry but true. Some got the slots even after professing they were for Paul. It all depended on if it was a primary or caucus. You can continue to live in la la land and sit there like a lump listening to Hannity, O’Reilly, Beir, and the other idiots on Fox along with Rassmussen, Un Clear Politics, and the rest, but I will not be led by the nose by a handful of traitors to our country.

While I live your theory in heart where ever I can in life, I promise you, there has never been a race, people or nation that operated under such a condition. Why do you think this is ? Why do think the Indians or the Natives of any land had never just been libertarians? Because it doesn’t work in reality because of human nature. Just as Communism and Marxism and whatever other great idea you can propose, that are all failures in reality. You people are same as the intellects of the left, only worse. Where as they at least propose to design a place that is at least tolerable. I don’t mean to dog you people, but whenever you say stuff like “You just handed the election over to Obama ? ” as if Ron Paul or anybody else for that matter, had even a change in heck of beating him ? SO what, if we elected Ron Paul, oh yes, then Obama would be doomed to lose… I mean, this is where I lose you people and realize your dealing with a full deck in reality. Wright/Obama are on opposite sides of the spectrum, you and I both know that, so why draw such a stupid analogy. Deep down you must really need government to run your life for you. Your every post reeks with hatred of liberty and personal responsibility. You can’t even spell conservative and I’m supposed to believe that failed attempt of a statement. Foreign policy is the only place where there is room for discussion on RP’s views. I haven’t quite figured out what is the best thing to do about the Middle East but I sure know what we are doing now isn’t working. Sixteen Trillion in debt man, stop acting like a little emotional lib, this is a math problem that obviously the past 80 years of politicians can’t solve. I believe RP has the answer to the debt and economy which are biggest threats to our country right now.
