Report: RNC Rules Committee Passes Delegate Selection ‘Compromise’

A commenter at Michelle Malkin’s website claims to have the vote totals for the new “compromise” on delegate selection for the RNC. According to that commenter, the result was an unbelievably wide vote margin of 78 votes for the compromise, and 14 against. This version of the compromise includes the infamous Rule 16, which allows Presidential candidates to veto which delegates represent them at the convention.

Timothy P. Carney of the Washington Examiner has confirmed the report via Twitter.

But there could still be a floor fight.

UPDATE: Brian Paukert, an alternate Paul delegate from Minnesota, slammed the decision when asked about it by TheBlaze.

“It’s shocking to me, it looks like the same type of power grab among the Republican establishment, the Washington elites,” Paukert said. “This could have been a chance for good will among the liberty crowd and Ron Paul supporters and Mitt Romney but this to me — I think it’s unnecessary, I really don‘t understand it and it’s dangerous I think. We claim to be the party of the grassroots and everybody has a voice, it’s citizen government and these rules, the rules that they’re trying to put in place, they’re going to take that away from us.”

What’s more, Paukert is pessimistic if this slight can be forgotten by Paul supporters in time for the election. ”Anything could happen in the next two months, but I would say it’s not a real good sign. I would say it’s pretty clear that the reason this is being done is because of the Ron Paul supporters.”

The fight isn’t over yet, however. Tim Carney has reported, via Twitter, that a petition to force a floor fight over the proposed rules may have gotten enough signatures to proceed.

UPDATE: By a voice vote, all the proposed rules were adopted by the Republican National Convention.

This is a breaking news story. Updates will be added.

Looks like the Republican establishment has made a power grab. Changing the rules and replacing delegates is not my idea of what “anyone but Obama” was about, Romney is nothing more than Obama lite. I’ve had it, the republicans have LOST my “hold my nose” vote as well. I never thought I‘d say this but if Ron Paul isn’t on the ballot in November as a third party then I’m writing him in. Regardless of a Romney or Obama win our nation will end up in the same place, one just gets us there faster. I know the whole split the vote argument but at this point I’m over it, if we get another four years of Obama then so be it, maybe that is what it will take for people to finally wake up and fight back against the establishment.

The RNC and Romney stripped my state of Maine of Half of our duly elected delegates. Forcing half of them to vote for him? This was forced on us on Fri. just days before the convention. It is despicable. He did it to other states too. Research this, I kid you not. Tea Party leaning Maine governor Paul Le Page opted to not go after this was done to Maine’s delegates.
I was going to support him but not now. If this is what he does before being president, what will he do when elected? Politicians are all crooked. If this wasn’t his idea, it is equally disturbing that he would allow the money machine (RNC) proceed in such a low manner. Pray for this country.

but some delegates were sent to the convention to vote for Paul. They should be allowed to fulfill their duty at the convention. Everyone is happy and they can vote for whom they choose come election time. The problem most of us have with this unprecedented power grab by Romney uncovers a deeper hidden agenda to rule by executive order not populous mandate. We already have that and are trying desperately to vote it out this fall. Pulling a stunt like this in the convention just ****** off independents like me. Sorry you lost my vote. I think the Libertarian Party should be attracting disaffected Rs and Ds and could emerge as a viable third party BUT Dr Paul has stood in the way of that. So, the Tea Party has found a way to rejuvenate the Republican Party instead. Sadly, Dr Paul – a perfectly reasonable and likable guy – is LOOPY on foreign policy and a troublemaker as a titular Republican. If the Paulbots throw this election to Obama, they will be seen as traitors by the rest of us and they will have no role in the future of any party. Stop the nonsense, people. This rule change wouldn’t be necessary if you played by the rules already in place.

Dismissing Ron Paul supporters because a few act wacky is a mistake. It’s a liberty movement much stronger than any one person.
Maybe your blind trust in Romney is more sad than I can say. He was elected in Taxachussets and now is changing the delegation rules (after all the work states have done to pick their delegates) to suit himself. This is what liberty looks like to you? We are made to think that we are actually making a choice. Remember Bush and his progressive ways? If Romney wins, I feel we will get more of the same. Better than Obama, but I don’t trust the GOP anymore. We must win the senate and keep the House. Ron Paul had 20 delegates in Maine and the RNC FORCED half of them to vote for Romney. EVERYONE who voted against Ron Paul and the Liberty movement will are seeing the start of the crap sandwich which we WILL ALL BE EATING SOON! I wish the PEOPLE would have stayed true to the principles they SUPPOSEDLY believe in and we wouldn’t have this RINO as our candidate. We are getting exactly what we deserve, and it is heart breaking. I have been so amazed at the hypocrisy coming from the conservative voters. First it was anybody but Romney. Then Bachmann, Cain, Newt, Santorum, ALL of them had their moment in the spot light except Ron Paul. All of them were the Romney alternative at some point, but somehow we still ended up with Romney as our guy. The ONLY candidate with a PROVEN track record of being CONSISTENT on the Constitution and small gov. was Ron Paul! But as we watch the epic signs of what a Romney presidency will be, a famous quote comes to mind- “In a democracy, the people get the government they deserve!”. So be it. Just remember all the mean and nasty things that were said to the Paul supporters when it unfolds. The only difference is WE WILL ACT IN LOVE and STAND WITH THOSE WHO STOOD AGAINST FREEDOM ANYWAY. Sorry, we are 20 years late to the party. The “RINOs” are the TEA party and libertarians. The TEA party was co-opted as soon as they sided with Republican party. Republican doesn’t mean what it used to, Republican is now progressive and the progressives have set the system up so that no one they don’t like runs against their other guy. Had the TEA party joined the libertarians, with whom they have MUCH more common ground, we would have had the numbers to unseat both the Democrats and Republicans from the executive branch this election. It would have been REAL hope and CHANGE.

You are not choosing between two different philosophies with McCain vs. Obama or Obama vs. Romney. You are merely choosing who you think is better at saying the same things.

Your vote comes down to this: Who do you you think sells this product better to you? The Democrat or Republican? Romney or Obama? The product is the same, but which candidate do you think helps you to swallow the pill easier?

I mean, Romney‘s campaign is VERY similar to Obama’s ‘08 campaign. What has he really said? What fresh ideas has he brought to the table? Nothing. It’s just a conglomeration of luke warm progressive crap. There is no difference. This ruling makes sure things stay that way. Look up the primary shenanigans that occurred to make sure Romney was the guy in the end. If people don’t see it now, I’m afraid they never will.

I’m just banging my head against the wall. To those who do know and actually get it, see you in the camp.

Glenn Beck was the last hope but turns out he’s a herder all the same. Too bad, he was given a mighty chance. Maybe he’ll come around some day. We need a 3rd party. If you think a third party means the democrats win every time, you should consider re-thinking your own loyalty.

Earlier this month, Mitt Romney was welcomed for a campaign event at the Century Mine in Beallsville, Ohio, by hundreds of coal workers and their families. Now many of the mine’s workers are saying they were forced to give up a day-worth of pay to attend the event, and they feared they might be fired if they didn’t, according to local news radio WWVA.

The claims have been mostly denied by Rob Moore, Chief Financial Officer of Murray Energy Company, which owns the mine. He acknowledges that workers weren’t paid that day but says no one was made to attend the event. Well, kind of.

“Our managers communicated to our workforce that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory, but no one was forced to attend,” he told local news radio WWVA, which has received several emails from workers claiming that the company records names of workers that don’t attend those types of events. Aggregating our individual resources and energy through these groups will force one or both parties to move our direction in order to gain support. Additionally, these groups can concentrate on getting individual Conservatives elected, thereby increasing our influence in the government-sanctioned political parties.

This is the means by which the statists took control of the Dem party, and it is the only way we will have an impact.

Ron Paul supporters have been talking about this for WEEKS!!! You are just now coming to this realization b/c some fat gas bag on the radio FINALLY decides to give it a mention??? I listen that fat ass every day and he has totally ignored this fact. The RNC is the puppet master; Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are the puppets. This is SO tiring.
