Report: Russian Nuclear-Capable Bombers Intercepted Near West Coast for Second Time in 2 Weeks

A pair of Russian strategic nuclear bombers were intercepted near the Pacific coast Wednesday, the Washington Free Beacon reported — the second such incident in two weeks.

According to the Free Beacon, the two long range bombers entered the U.S. air defense zone and came close to the U.S. coast, but did not enter sovereign airspace. The bombers were “were visually identified by NORAD fighters,” Pentagon spokesman Capt. John Kirby said.

The first incident in late June involved two Tu-95 Bear H bombers near Alaska conducting war games, which included simulated attacks on “enemy” air defenses and strategic facilities, a Russian military spokesman told the site.

The bomber flights near the Pacific and earlier flights near Alaska appear to be signs Moscow is practicing the targeting of its long-range air-launched cruise missiles on two strategic missile defense sites, one at Fort Greely, Alaska and a second site at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.

In May, Russian Gen. Nikolai Makarov, the chief of the Russian General Staff, said during a Moscow conference that because missile defense systems are destabilizing, “A decision on pre-emptive use of the attack weapons available will be made when the situation worsens.” The comments highlighted Russian opposition to planned deployments of U.S. missile defense interceptors and sensors in Europe.

The U.S. defense official called the latest Bear H incident near the U.S. West Coast “Putin’s Fourth of July Bear greeting to Obama.”

Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney, a former Alaska commander for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, said the latest Bear H intrusion appears to be Russian military testing.

“It’s becoming very obvious that Putin is testing Obama and his national security team,” McInerney told the Free Beacon. “These long-range aviation excursions are duplicating exercises I experienced during the height of the Cold War when I command the Alaska NORAD region.”

      This is not the first time this has happened or the last.

      Russian Bombers and Survetllance Aircraft have been flying up and down the West Cost of the United States since the 1950′s.
      There has even been times when these Russian Military Aircraft have had mechanical problems, and where allowed to land at U.S. Military Bases, to be repaired and allowed to leave……..

Then add that to the info from Ret. Gen. Boykin’s warnings. Then add that with their desperation to stay in power and suspend the elections by calling martial law. We also had a group of Russians that were visiting our city the other day, via the State Dept., under the guise of checking out what we have done to successfully accomplish some things (don’t remember what) so they could improve in Russia. How stupid and naive can we be????!!!!!

      This has been going on since the Cold War. Had an old roommate that was on the Eisenhower. He had numerous stories of the cat & mouse game that occurs off the Western seaboard. Bears would see how far they could go before we would chase them back. It sounds like some good hand gestures were exchanged amongst the opposing pilots.

      Did you live through the cold war era? Just curious if your opinions are based on facts alone (assuming you’re not just getting your info from Internet crap) or if it’s based off of fact and experience.

      Fact is, this is not a good thing and the U.S. has, IMO, never been in such a weakened state therefore making the risk much greater. The Russians are just waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack the U.S. Before you label me nuts, understand I mean they would likely attack via economically, information leaks via the Internet, etc. People voted for Obama, people want this country like Russia…let them have it!!! Of course, we all heard the sound byte of the POTUS telling the Russian president to just wait until after the election…

      The fact that this has been going on, and that they even had to stop here for a maintanance run means nothing positive. In such tumultuous times, the fact that this administration would allow it is disgusting at best.

      “The base turned its attention from combat to more peaceful pursuits when two B-52s, a KC-10 and their crews visited Dyagilevo Air Base, Russia , in March 1992. In May 1992 Barksdale hosted a return visit by two Russian Tu-95 “Bear” bombers, an An-124 “Condor” transport and 58 Russian airmen. The Russians stayed for six days, seeing a slice of America and participating in Strategic Air Command’s final Bombing and Navigation Competition awards symposium. The Russians visited again in August 1994, bringing a Tu-95 “Bear” and an I1-78 aerial tanker. ”

    Obama has helped re-arm Russia by not allowing oil drilling on federal lands and around coastal U.S.A. Had he done do so, oil prices would have plummeted along with a resurgence in our economy thereby cutting off Putin‘s testicles because Russia’s main source of wealth is high crude oil prices.     Do you suppose that Russian intel shows BO is totally uninterested in being a working president. Gets in late at night. Gets up late and to office late. Doesn’t like to work on anything. Doesn’t work with Congress on anything. Still waiting for HIS plan on anything. Spends all his time either entertaining and partying or traveling around country campaigning and fund raising. Surrounds himself with weak and ineffective people who worship only him. He‘s pretty sure he’s a genius. He has allowed our military morale, nuclear and other assets, and our security posture in the world to go to hell.     I cannot find new information on the Chinese port that was to be built in Baja, California less than two hours from the border. Does anyone know anything about it?

      Yes, the rest of the world should be very concerned. But something tells me they are not. It’s amazing to me that in this day of the internet, and 24hr news cycle, that people can be so absolutely “dummed down” to what’s going on around them. History, I believe will show future generations just how blind people can be, even given the information that’s right in front of them. We’ll all be lucky to make it through this unscathed in the end. Prep and pray my friends, because IMO, there’s some very hard times coming our way. Everyone had better have the three “B’s” by now………

    The Russians are testing our radar defenses and aircraft response times. Their air launched cruse missiles don’t need to be within 50 miles to be effective. Obama probably considers these flights a gesture of “friendship” from his Communist cousin..

      Nuclear cruise missles can hit our west coast cites within minutes if fired from the distance these bombers were at. MINUTES. You wouldn’t even get a warning. Remember the missle, oppps, I mean “plane” that was spotted of the Cal. coast a couple years ago?? Yea, there testing our response. Can anyone say “EMP”……..

      I hope we the people can count on our forces. I hope this more than any other time in history. One thing that I do know is this: Americans are not only the best armed populace in the world but also the bravest. We took tyranny on full force after 1776 when our farmers who were outgunned and outmanned defeated the then most ferociuos forces in the world. I have no doubt that we can/will do it again. I didn’t worry too much about foreigners invading us when Bush was in office because I knew he would do whatever it took to keep us safe, even if that meant bombing Russia. We might not know about it from the news, but we all knew he was a nice guy but tough and CLEARLY not afraid to stand up to bullies (and they knew it). Obama, on the other hand, is an unknown. Would he actually step up to the plate or would he just go out back for a “smoke”? We know he’s a pothead, so you do the math.

    This just shows that the entire world sees Obama as a weak nothing. Reagan would have told Russia in no uncertain terms that if they came close again he would shoot them down and then do it. With Obama, Russia will wait for an apology from Obama for something that the United States did that he feels warranted Russia to under go these exercises.

      Everyone here is missing the key point – Putin wants Obama in the White House 4 more years because a weak, torn apart, nearly bankrupt U.S serves his interest. So what does he do? he sends these bombers to let Obama seem like he’s a strong defender of the U.S.

      I don‘t know who’s buying this cheap show but it can only do good for this administration.

      Indeed we all know Obama is weak and exploitable, along with the fact Putin is playing the game of sabre rattling for his own hardline base in Russia. Remember that in Russia symbols have meaning more than reality most of the time; Putin can say to his people “The west threaten us with their ‘missile shield’, yet we fly at will close enough to show we can render harm beneath that very shield…’

      I can see Obama manipulating this into the missile shield becoming a provacation for war; and thus have the excuse (as if he actually would bother with one) to stop the project completely and leave the US even more vulnerable than ever before.

      Something my friends have been batting around for a bit now; is that would Obama be insane enough to detonate a radiolocal device via his terrorist allies in one or more US cities, blame it on some other nation and seize absolute power here at home ‘for the duration’ that will never end?

      I know it sounds nuts, but then again, Obama is growing more desperate and mad with each passing day.

    Putin knows Obama is a pushover. Obama trashes half our nukes and the Eastern Europe missile defense system all in hopes of a ‘restart’ and help with Iran. Putin hasn’t given an inch on Iran, Syria or anything else. He is laughing at our man child in chief.
