Report: Saudi King Might Move Mosque Away From Ground Zero

A Manhattan lawyer representing Saudi King Abdullah is reportedly engaging New York officials and community leaders about a plan that would move the proposed Ground Zero Mosque to an abandoned hospital farther uptown. It’s a proposal one source says is intended “to show that Muslims can do good works.”
The New York Post says attorney Dudley Gaffin is claiming King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia might want to buy the defunct St. Vincent’s Medical Center on 12th street and transfer the mosque to a new Islamic cultural center he would build on the grounds, according to sources who have heard Gaffin’s pitch. The new mosque would be about 2.5 miles north of the current proposed site.
The proposal also includes an odd marriage of sorts, as the King would reportedly reopen much of the Catholic hospital.
The New York Post interviewed several sources:
“He’s asking what it would take to put in a bid,” said one community leader who did not want to be identified.
“He says the king wants to do this as a p.r. move — to save the hospital and move the mosque away from the World Trade Center site,” the source added. “He wants to show that Muslims can do good works.”
“[Gaffin is] talking about the Saudis,” said another source, a politically connected lawyer. “I don’t know if any conversations have taken place [with them].”
The cost would be at least $300 million — the combined amount that the Sisters of Charity, which owns the hospital, owes the biggest secured creditors, GE Capital and TD bank.
If true, the King would have to outbid a group looking to tear down the hospital and build luxury condos. King Abdullah is currently in New York recovering from back surgery.

Let me see if I get this right. The Muslim Imam wants to build the Mosque at GZ. Most of the US population does not want the Mosque built at GZ. In fact, a good many US citizens do not want anymore Mosques built in the states, period. So, as an act of good works the king says he would opt for the Mosque to be built 2 – 3 miles away from GZ. If people go along with this- they still get their Mosque. I say, to show a true act of good works the king should support the building of a Christian church in every Islamic country- including Mecca. When the wonderful, benevolent, and good king promotes this, I will consider another Mosque on American soil- but not before!

Posted on December 19, 2010 at 5:10pmim4truth..I hear you, that is why I left it open. It does make things more confusing when the king came here for health care and now wants to help a Catholic hospital and wants to move from ground zero. This would not be looked at as a great pr move..if the Catholic church would support it’s own hospital and the American people would have rebuilt ground zero, in whatever way they could rebuild it..in almost ten years. These openings for muslims to confiscate land and pr hospitals would not happen if the US would have had investors or the Catholic church would have supported the nuns and it’s own hospital. Maybe the saudi king is trying to help..I don’t know..I do know that God helps those who help themselves and others..why hasn’t that been done concerning ground zero and St. Vincent’s hospital. It makes us look bad that a muslim king wants to do what we have not been able to do ourselves.

The fact is that most Americans are trusting, good-hearted people, who want to do the right thing.
What sane and compassionate person doesn’t want to see genuine “Peace on earth”?
It’s reasonable to question what is motivating this Mosque issue, when it is still an open and festering wound in the heart of the American people. Since we already know that the goal of the enemy is to divide and conquer, would you agree that, that‘s what they’re aiming for? And we’re certainly making it an easier task for them – since we have difficulty showing respect for one another’s opinions in these forums.

Posted on December 19, 2010 at 6:53pm@SOUTHERN – Just like how our own government has taken pieces of other countries who have “bent over?” Riiiiight. I hardly think that a King from Saudi Arabia buying property for religious purposes means America is handing over her freedom and sovereignty, just like how Catholics building Cathedrals and Mormons buiding Temples is taking sovereign powers away and power. How much foreign property do you think is owned by the US? For one example, the US owns almost 50% of the soil in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, for military use. Plus they own land for military use in dozens of other nations, INCLUDING Saudi Arabia. Now what do you think would happen if Saudi Arabia purchased even ONE ACRE of land in America for Military use? For one thing I think it stands as a testament that not every Muslim hates America as there are still people and families there, and have been for so long.

Are you talking about the US military installations the Saudis WANT there, to save them from their oh so peaceful neighbors? We are protecting them at their request. How can you compare that to a foreign govt. engaging in highly controversial religious activism in America?
I am so sick and tired of the liberal anti-military stance. Red states should seriously start to consider the need to secede. Muslims, illegals and commies have banded together to destroy this country.

Posted on December 19, 2010 at 4:29pmOn it’s face value, it seems like an okay offer. To help the Catholic hospital get back up and running when no one else seems to be doing it, is a decent gesture and to move the offensive proposed ground zero mosque is a must..and that has been what every American has been demanding. Since no other backer has wanted to help St. Vincent’s..(umm..where is the Catholic church on this, why does a Muslim king have to bring it back to serving people..just saying). But, American’s would not and will not tollerate a mosque at ground zero, so that would be solved. Maybe because the king came here to the US for his health care, maybe his eyes have been opened. Just what it looks like on the surface. I’m sure there is more to come.

Posted on December 19, 2010 at 4:25pmWhy be so dramatic. We can kill hundreds of thousands of their children with simple economic sanctions like banning the manufacture or importing of chlorine to disinfect water. It’s a win win situation, we get a Muslim hospital to help Americans yet we can kill millions of them without looking like bad guys.
The overall literacy rate in Iraq had been 78% in 1977 and 87% for adult women by 1985, but declined rapidly since then. Between 1990 and 1998, over one fifth of Iraqi children stopped enrolling in school, consequently increasing the number of non-literates and losing all the gains made in the previous decade. The 1990s also saw a dramatic increase in child labor, from a virtually non-existent level in the 1980s. The per capita income in Iraq dropped from $3510 in 1989 to $450 in 1996, heavily influenced by the rapid devaluation of the Iraqi dinar.[20]
Iraq had been one of the few countries in the Middle East that invested in women’s education. But this situation changed from the late eighties on with increasing militarisation and a declining economic situation. Consequencently the economic hardships and war casualties in the last decades have increased the number of women-headed households and working women.[20]
Researcher Richard Garfield estimated that “a minimum of 100,000 and a more likely estimate of 227,000 excess deaths among young children from August 1991 through March 1998″ from all causes including sanctions

“, and
B) You don’t think that any of our Presidents should be involved in the affairs of other countries like the last few wars over the past 30 years. ”
I don’t believe in nation building, but going after those who attacked us is fine.
“You don’t want the American or Canadian governments to sending relief aid to Haiti. ”
The Saudi King does not want to aid us, but to further a Muslim agenda. This is my response to all appeals you make to examples of offers to aiding other countries.
“You wouldn’t want the cops to catch whoever rapes a family member of yours, ”
This is an internal affair, which is beyond the scope of my position on the Saudi King and on Calderon.

Posted on December 20, 2010 at 3:33amFair enough. However, I do still submit that as a prominent Muslim, the King should act in interests which support his faith — much like the Vatican would want to step in for ultimate approval of a cathedral in the US (take that as an analogy as I don’t know the true process behind it). As far as supporting the Muslim agenda – sure. But I would think its a step backwards from actually putting it up at ground zero. Whether or not the Mosque/community center will be a terrorist hub or a haven of faith for the Muslim people who are American patriots and are against the radicals (who DO exist, by the way as I know some and as evidenced by the 4000-12000 Muslim-American troops according to various sources) will be up for time to decide. Thank you for response.

A rather extreme option I grant you, but it would certainly work. The real threat of being wiped out, might be the only thing that will stop Muslims from trying to destroy us all. Besides, I think the Jewish people would much rather rebuild their temple on the Temple Mount, once that ugly Muslim abomination of a building has been removed.
The real problem in the world today is the fact that theres alot of people that really can‘t or won’t understand just what a serious threat Muslims are. They refuse to see that they cannot be bargained with, they cannot live in peace and they won’t stop til anyone they consider an “infadel” is wiped from the world. Bargaining with them is like trying to reason with a rabid animal….all it will get you is bit.

Posted on December 19, 2010 at 7:08pm“to show that Muslims can do good works.”? Really.
In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, Muslim Iraq fought a war against its neighbor, Muslim Iran in which over 1 million Muslim men died at the hands of other Muslims. Then, Muslim Iraq invaded Muslim Kuwait and maimed, raped and killed thousands of Muslim Kuwaiti citizens. Let’s not even mention Kyrgyzstan and parts of Africa.
Muslims don’t even like other Muslims so, why would anybody be foolish enough to believe they could like us? There is no such thing as Muslims doing good works. Islam is a backward, necrophile cult that was started by the child molester, Mohammed (may his name and memory be obliterated).

Posted on December 20, 2010 at 12:11amAnd the lies are exposed! I thought they said that all the support was from and for the local congregation? Suddenly a Saudi king has the choice to move it? Don’t be naive America! The Muslims are lying to your face and DO have a stealth agenda to push Islam in all areas in all levels of society. This is the evidence, they are backed by Muslim foreign interests and it is for their agenda! The only place this house of Death should be moved it to Saudi Arabia where it belongs! Islam has only brought hate, violence and intimidation to this country nothing else but the traitors in our country and government want to mass import it and give it more freedom to spread this EVIL! Ban Islam in the USA NOW!

Posted on December 20, 2010 at 7:26amRight. We should punish a whole host of innocents (including the Christians and Jews) living near Mecca for the actions of specific despicable criminals. That would certainly show our moral superiority. I am taking a moment to reflect on “What would (my) Jesus do?“ My feeling is that he would be waaaaay beyond the OT ”eye for an eye.”
