Severe Weather to Delay Part of GOP Convention Until Tuesday

(The Blaze/AP) — The Republican National Convention will briefly convene Monday before taking a recess until Tuesday afternoon because of severe weather, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said Saturday.
“Our first priority is ensuring the safety of delegates, alternates, guests, members of the media attending the Republican National Convention, and citizens of the Tampa Bay area,” Priebus explained.
“After consulting with Governor Scott, NOAA and local emergency management officials, we are optimistic that we will begin an exciting, robust convention that will nominate the Romney-Ryan ticket.”
Mitt Romney weighed in on Twitter:
The safety of those in Isaac’s path is of the utmost importance. I applaud those in Tampa making appropriate schedule changes.
#GOP2012— Mitt Romney (@MittRomney) August 25, 2012
CNN adds:
GOP officials expect 50,000 people to attend the convention where Mitt Romney will officially accept his party’s presidential nomination and make the final turn to the November Election.
The delay was brought about because Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to be west of Tampa in the Gulf of Mexico early Monday morning – the first day of the week long event.
Priebus is expected to give more details on the modified schedule shortly. According to the National Review, his main concern is “severe transportation difficulties due to sustained wind and rain.”
Apparently, organizers may attempt to squeeze Monday’s speakers into the remaining days.
Priebus’ memo concludes: “We have an experienced team that will ensure changes are operationally smooth and create as little disruption as possible. The most important concern is safety, but our Convention program will proceed.”
Russ Schriefer, a senior strategist for the Romney campaign, assured: “We will absolutely be able to get our message out.”
This is a breaking story. Updates will be added.

When Wallace asked him if losing Monday due to the hurricane would hurt the convention, Kristol basically said. ” Oh no, that was just going to be a “bash Obama” day anyway. Waste of time. Which side are you ON,dude?. While sitting at the same table was Gov. Mike Huckabee who was scheduled to speak Monday night. Huckabee called him on it though. Kristol is a progressive “Repuclican” if there ever was one.

Report Post »The Republican platform leaves a lot to be desired for us Constitutionalists. Some of their planks are good, but it is what they leave out that is troubling. IF the RNC were concerned with true conservatism and Liberty, they would not have strong-armed and stole the Ron Paul delegates. Those delegates were harassed into switching over to Romney. It is this kind of behaviour that casts a long shadow on everything the Republicans say and try to make us believe. Obama certainly needs to go. In fact, he should have been impeached and thrown out a long time ago. Since the Republicans now claim at this late date that they will “consider” a return to a gold standard, screams of a placating ingenuousness.
People need to look at the Romney/Ryan voting records That is where you will find the real truth about what will happen under a Romney/Ryan presidency.
I am a life long registered Republican. But never again will I vote for a Republican-in-name-only. I love America and freedom for the citizenry. Prove to me Mr. Romney, Mr. Ryan, that you are for Liberty and small government. Perhaps I will change my mind. Liberty is the # 1 right that we are losing. Sometimes I think they want it that way.
John Quincy Adams said, and I am paraphrasing,“ To have Liberty is to have power”.
And to re-post Benjamin Franklin’s sentiment: ” Those who give up Liberty for security deserve neither.”

Some people think that whenever a conservative hears a liberal’s point of view, they have to pick the opposite stance. This is incorrect.
We listen to ideas, mull them over, then choose the best option.
If the Democrats had more good ideas, we would follow them as well.
