Report: U.S. ‘Scales Back’ Joint Military Exercise With Israel, After First Postponing It

An upcoming U.S.-Israel joint military exercise has been greatly scaled back, months after being postponed in the first place amid escalating tensions with Iran, Time magazine reported.
Austere Challenge 12 is still set to go forward in October, but with less than one-third the number of U.S. troops and fewer anti-missile systems, according to Time:
Instead of the approximately 5,000 U.S. troops originally trumpeted for Austere Challenge 12…the Pentagon will send only 1,500 service members, and perhaps as few as 1,200. Patriot anti-missile systems will arrive in Israel as planned, but the crews to operate them will not. Instead of two Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense warships being dispatched to Israeli waters, the new plan is to send one, though even the remaining vessel is listed as a “maybe,” according to officials in both militaries.
“Basically what the Americans are saying is, ‘We don’t trust you,’” a unnamed senior Israeli military official told Time.
But a Pentagon spokesman pushed back against the report, both that the scope of the exercise had changed or that it was a sign of U.S. mistrust.
“Austere Challenge-12 remains the largest-ever ballistic missile defense exercise between our nations and a significant increase from the previous event in 2009,” Pentagon spokesman Lt. Col. Jack Miller told Reuters. “The exercise has not changed in scope and will include the same types of systems as planned. All deployed systems will be fully operational with associated operators.”
A U.S official declined to say how many troops would be participating in the drill, but told Reuters the number was larger than Time reported. An Israeli defense official also said the exercise “will be held on a similar scale as when it was last held, two years ago.”
The exercise as scheduled will take place a month before the U.S. presidential election. Israel has been a contentious campaign issue amid reports the Obama administration has been pressuring the Jewish state to hold off on striking Iran’s nuclear facilities, while Republican nominee Mitt Romney has emphasized Israel’s “right to defend itself.”

We need to end our relationship with Israel. These “dual-citizens” that come over from Israel and reside in our government are not loyal to the U.S. but to Israel.

I dare any of you to look up how many Israeli spies have been caught in the past few decades. Our own senior military officials have extreme disdain for Israel. If you are pro-Israel then you have successfully been propagandized by them. We have no reason to be allies with Israel. They give us no benefit and only drag us into conflicts that we don’t need. I’m tired of watching our troops fight for Israel. Its sickening.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 1:14amDuhwut (what a name!): Israeli R&D on our military equipment enabled us to do as well as we did in the Gulf Wars I and II. Israeli innovations and improvements on US military equipment are implemented in the US (their ideas/our jobs), Israeli medical and technical advancements improve US lives and their spies actually pass on valuable information to us. We have rewarded the Israelis with manipulating their elections, training their enemies to kill them (Yes!) and forcing them to pull back from areas needed to ensure their safety. WE RULE ISRAEL, THEY DON’T RULE US! And we treat them as concubines. No wonder they spy on us. We have broken every agreement we had with them. Jonathan Pollard gave the Israelis information that we agreed to give Israel but did not. We screwed them over, and he knew it.

Who wants to side with a Zionist Jew nation when they believe that we are all goyim and are slaves under them. Don’t believe me? Read the Jewish scripture. Its in there.
Also, why the hell is Israel the only country not part of the NPT (Nuclear Proliferation Treaty) that has nukes? They have 80+ nukes.
Beware of propaganda. I was once under its spell but am no longer.
“Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.” Revelation 3:9
Zionist Jews =/= Jews. Zionist Jews are the liars of the “synagogue of Satan” that run Israel and the U.S. Zionism is what starts wars for Israel and draws in the U.S. Our country is being used by these zionists and we are brainwashed into thanking them for it. Everybody needs to wake up and see what is really happening.

Tell you a true story. Some lady in Israel bought some filing cabinets from the US embassy/consulate. She opened it up and found some sensitive US information, some of which describing how the US was screwing over Israel.

Handing out play money is never a solution to unemployment or underemployment. Getting gov’t out of the way is. Gov’t does one thing well – war. The rest of its attempts at other things usually go over budget, come in late, don’t work as planned, make matters worse, etc.
Welfare drove poor people out of the job market by giving them “free money.“ It invited in a whole bunch of illegal workers who now take work that ”Americans won’t take.” It destroyed family units by dismissing fathers fm the picture. Boys and girls grow up w/o a positive male role model and have to live w/a sense of insecurity w/o a father present. Gangs fill in the blanks there. It has threatened our national security, way of life, and hopes for a future better than our parents’ past.

The federal gov’t needs to move back to the boundaries of the Constitution – they were really few and simple ones.
State and local gov’t need to decide, and tax accordingly, how much infrastructure is needed, what kinds of teachers are hired or fired, etc. It is not a central gov’t/planners job to say where my local library is or which books belong on the shelves.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 8:57pmmajority of military spending is not even on the troops, its on insanely priced highly technological weaponry that we really don’t need as well as bases abroad, we could balance the budget by cutting that part of the military without touching the troops, but making higher education affordable will allow for the troops and others to find jobs after being kicked out or quitting the force. if we spent the money we do on military and war abroad on infrastructure education and helping the people, this country would be much better off today. the people should come first. But establishment GOP is just offering war and almost anything is better than that and Military is the easiest thing to cut and if Obama does that than good.
Report Post »Elena2010
Posted on September 1, 2012 at 9:45pmIndy — Obama wants to gut the military, personnel included.
Yes, high tech weaponry are costly items, but so are high tech drugs and high tech toys.
Again, gov’t is only good for one thing — make war/protect national interests abroad.
Gov’t cannot make higher education less costly w/o getting rid of some educators, which they can’t do because of tenure. My father, a PhD in organic chemistry, taught at the university and made LESS than my mother who was a public school teacher. In summer, he would work on gov’t military projects and make almost as much w/them.
That was a long time back when university professors had high respect but poor pay. Now they get little respect but get a whole lot of money for their pompous pronouncements.
Besides, we don’t need a whole lot of college educated unemployed. We might need some good, skilled carpenters, plumbers, electricians, etc. There is nothing more frustrating than not having skillful workers who just throw things together and hope they make it until the warranted runs out. You do NOT need a college degree to run a network or other high tech jobs. Those kinds of jobs are not being trained for in high schools but need to be. High school should be a place where basic education for life is mastered. The academically gifted then go to college, which will weed some more of them out. Our grandparents generation had it about right.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 9:46amhigher education doesn’t just mean college it means trade school and tech school as well. but right now most Americans and basically most of humanity would rather spending on them than on war including I. but right now for many folks higher education is not affordable and the best way to make it, is to stop backing loans, maybe use lottery money to help pay for serious people like the hope scholarship in Georgia.

Posted on September 2, 2012 at 4:46pmIndy — I would love to see every kid get a first rate education. I have been a life-long educator who continues her education, too.
However, it is NOT in the federal gov’t job description to educate our children. It’s simply not in the Constitution. It is the job of the parents, who band together at the local level and form what we call public education. That is what property taxes are for. States that run lotteries also apply their “winnings” fm lotteries on education.
The federal gov’t needs to draw itself back to what the enumerated powers had identified for it. Leave the rest of it to local and state gov‘t where local gov’t is not powerful enough to accomplish a task – like highways.
Scaling the federal gov’t back to enumerated powers will reduce the federal tax load. I’d like to rescind the federal income tax amendment (#16) and have the federal gov’t exist on tariffs and tolls. Moreover, they should start fm scratch w/regulations. Put in place smart regulations — no more regulating for the sake of regulating.

Bush’s greatest fault lay in his belief that all men want to live free and have democratic forms of governance. Nothing could be farther fm the truth in dealing w/islamically ruled areas. Islam is a totalitarian form of government, w/the religious overtones, governing w/the religious consent of the governed. Islam is NOT compatible w/Western democratic traditions. The Western tradition comes out of the Enlightenment and a Judeo-Christian perspective of the nature of humanity.
Islam does not hold a “free will” construct. Judaism, and its offspring Christianity, do adhere to “free will” for all humanity. This is best seen in the Prophets in the Old Testament. The Prophets present two courses of action, and we are free to choose which to take. There are consequences for each path, which they clearly spell out. There is no such option in islam.

We are a belligerent nation… fact. Wonder why they hate us? Belligerency. We are arming Israel, period. I’m tired of our wealth being used for this tiny, little, bellicose, contentious, combating nation.

You do realize when you denigrate Israel .. You are also denigrating the God whom they belong to right? God says… “I will Bless those who Bless you (Israel) and CURSE those who curse you (Israel)
Just curious.. how’s life working out for ya?

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 5:07pmWay to be a proud anti-semite, don’t hold back now, tell us how you really feel about anything Jewish. Are your ears smoking with the knowlege that that tiny country has smoked every attempt at it? Was it a diamond with a fault you bought or a really hot Israeli chick that smacked down your attempts? Every time the goat herders get froggy and mass in numbers, that lil tiny country sends them packing. Do you take that personal too? Sad little existance you have going there if all of your vitriol and hatred is reserved for one small group of people. Could be time for some serious couch time-but the best psycho peeps happen to be Jewish, does that also imflame your insane antisemite side? Go buy a Jericho, great shooters…

@Glenn, quit with the Christian bullying tactics. These “God is so going to smite you down” remarks are a common hypocrisy that is used by readers of The Blaze. I’m still finding my beliefs but it bothers me to see Christians quoting Bible verses with the intent of exercising control over other individuals.
I’m pro-Israel but not for religious reasons. We were instrumental in Israel’s creation, they are loyal allies even though the USA has back stabbed them many times, and enemies from all sides threaten them with annihilation.

Ignorance is difficult to combat, ask any parent of a teenager.
Zionism and Jewish are not one and the same. Israel is a Zionist state, that, like the Nazi state of old, seeks ethnic purity. This is why they allied themselves with the Nazis, in particular, Eichmann.
Are these people antisemitic? http://www.jewsagainstzionism.com/index.cfm
According to you, and sadly many others, they would be. That, my friend, is ignorance.

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 5:36pmOur country was not founded in order to fulfill ancient desert prophecies of a barbaric people. Israel can fight it’s own wars, if they so choose to start one. But don’t let me interrupt your Israel circlejerk. I’m sure God will love us when we sentence thousands of soldiers and civilians to their deaths. God is all about turning the other cheek, right?

Posted on September 1, 2012 at 5:58pmJerk: So “ we are a belligerent ” nation but Iran isn’t ? Any chance you weren’t even born during the loser Carter years and the Iranian hostage taking incident ? Maybe you also missed the Palestinian massacre of the Israeli Olympic athletes? Maybe you missed the assassination of Anwar Sadat by the Muslim Brotherhood ? Or the killing of a navy sailor who was murdered and thrown from a hijacked airplane ? Or the elderly Jewish man who was tossed, in his wheel chair, from a hijacked cruise ship ? Yeah, America and Israel are always the bad guys. These Arab/ Palestinian/ Muslim fanatics are just a swell group of loving people who have not been treated right….

Whatever, bliss is what it is. Still, it must really irk that they swat the muslims of the moment every time. Tiny little country of Jews from all over the world – and they deny your dream every time. Have a happy kiniption fit. Oh, look, you have the demented “indy” on your side-kudos are in order clearly. My comments are scriptural (Gen 12:3) and were addressed to THE_JERK. It was not meant to be a “bullying tactic” but merely the truth. A “warning if you will”. God will not be mocked!!
I hope that doesn’t confuse you any further in finding your faith, which I sincerely hope you find.
I do not apologize for my comment however.
