Report: U.S. Soldier Arrested in Possible Second Attack on Ft. Hood

Fox News is reporting that at least one U.S. soldier has been arrested in a possible plot to attack Ft. Hood, which was the target of a deadly attack in 2009.

Suspect Arrested in Another Possible Ft. Hood Attack Plot

A reported picture of Abdo from a Facebook profile allegedly belonging to him.

Fox cites sources who say that one person is in custody, but also notes that there are reports of two others also being apprehended:

According to an Army source, one AWOL soldier is in the custody of the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood. He was not captured on base. According to another source, two other U.S. soldiers were also arrested earlier today after authorities recovered weapons and explosives.

In an update to its original story, Fox names the suspect as Pfc. Nasser Jason Abdo, and says he was allegedly found with “explosives and jihadist materials:”

Pvt. Nasser Jason Abdo, an AWOL soldier from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, was arrested by the Killeen Police Department near Fort Hood and remains in custody there. Authorities, however, will not say if Abdo is the one who raised security concerns. Abdo was allegedly found with explosives and jihadist materials at the time of his arrest, a senior Army source confirms to Fox News. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon after someone called authorities to report a suspicious individual.

A Ft. Hood spokesman told Fox that Abdo was also being investigated for having child pornography on his government computer. He went AWOL on July 4, just a day before his first scheduled deployment to Afghanistan. “The incident leading to the arrest did not occur on Fort Hood and the soldier was not a Fort Hood based soldier,” a Ft. Hood spokesman said in a statement. “At this time, there has been no incident at Fort Hood. We continue our diligence in keeping our force protection at appropriate levels.” The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed in a statement that a “suspect is in custody” and said, “We are not aware of any further immediate threat to public safety and are actively investigating the matter.”

KCEN-TV reports the police were tipped off by a local gun shop owner who became suspicious of Abdo:

Officers say Abdo was overheard making those threatening statements and that after his arrest, he kept making them.

Killeen Police received a call from a gun shop owner about a suspicious man in the store who was asking questions about 40 caliber ammunition and then bought three boxes of 12-gauge ammunition and a magazine for a pistol.

A federal officials said he paid cash, took a cab to a surplus store and bought a military uniform.

After Abdo’s arrest, a police searched his motel room and found gunpowder, shotgun shells, 18-pounds of sugar, a pressure cooker, four magazines and ammunition.

A Facebook profile allegedly belonging to Abdo shows that he has been struggling to justify his Islamic faith with his Army duties:

Prayer and reflection have helped me to understand that I cannot be a soldier in the US Army and continue to remain true to Islam as I now understand it.
[...]

US Army Private First Class (PFC) Nasser Abdo is engaged in a struggle against religious discrimination and for freedom of conscience in the US Army. PFC Abdo is seeking a conscientious objector discharge from the military based on his religious beliefs as a Muslim. His unit has now backed down from attempting to force PFC Abdo to deploy. We are urging all people of conscience around the world to stand in solidarity with Nasser Abdo.

However, the profile appears to be part Abdo’s campaign to gain consciousness objecter status.

On Nov. 5, 2009, Maj. Nidal Hasan, an American Army officer and psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded 30 others after going on a shooting spree at Ft. Hood.

It was announced last month that he could face the death penalty.

This is a breaking story. Stay tuned for updates.

yeah i forgot, we didn’t go to Afghanistan because we were attacked. I know, I know, we deserved it…. Oh, and we didn’t go into Iraq after 13 UN resolutions demanding Saddam open his weapons factories to UN inspectors or face war. No, No No. This world would be much more peaceful if we imperialists were wiped off the face of the earth along with the Jews, right?

I know, let’s allow the muslims and their Sharia law rule the world. You know, since they are not evil imperialists like us but rather fight for human rights and equality for everyone.

Look at his name – they gave it away – maybe they can call him a “suicide bomber” – why do we always hear that term on tv when we hear Iraquis or blowing up Iraquis? It should be more like “those crazy Muslimes – they can’t help strapping bombs to their bodies and blewing each other up. We know that it isn’t the Copts, or Christians doing it – :) It’s those crazy Darwinian worshippers – isn’t that a contradiction – a Darwin worshipper and a Christian.

Ft. Hood needs to arm everyone on base and make them leave their guns at the gate. This way when off base the Texans can cover their back. Texas is a right to carry state and most crime is between gangs and drug runners from Mexico.

@worthless ok so we went to Afghanistan 10 years ago because al qaeda was there correct?
Then why are we still there? Even General Petraeus has said Very few if any al qaeda remain in Afghanistan. The people we are fighting there now have nothing to do with 9/11.
And Iraq, we know now and we knew then that they had no WMD. The main reason we went there was the supposed tie between Hussein and AQ, which was later proven to be false as well.
But even if it was all about WMD’s, we found out that they did not exist several years ago, why didn’t we pull out then?

      @Rabble

Yes, Iraq did have connections to AQ and other terrorists groups. Not to delve too much into what I do for a living, but I have been in two of the terrorist camps in Iraq that had people come from all over the Middle East and Asia to train with the Republican Guard and teach them how to employ terrorist tactics.

These two places also give us a place to fight our enemy so we don’t have to fight them here. Unfortunately, these terrorists are evolving to counteract our work. But, fear not, for we are also adapting to the “new battlefield” and chasing them all over the world.

In my personal opinion, though, it is time to pull conventional forces out and hand the countries back to their responsible citizens.

Petraus is right, very few AQ are left in Afghanistan. But that’s only because they have dissolved into different factions and most of them are in northern Pakistan. Just because they don‘t call themselves AQ doesn’t mean they are not still terrorists wanting to imitate AQ.

Thanks for having an intelligent debate and not just insulting me. It’s actually refreshing. (no, there is no sarcasm in that)

imperialism is not a monarch, it is a stage in the economic development of capitalism.

it is when a national economy does not suffice and commodities must be exported, and capital must be invested in in other countries by a more developed country for cheaper labor or prices.

It also involved the political and economic manipulation of lesser economies and at times the forced opening of a nationalized econonmy via military force. Free Trade and Neoliberalism are the mantras of modern american imperialism. Austerity is a new twist though brought on by international financial insitutions.

Saddam was our friend when we aided and abetted the murder of a million people in his[our] war with iran. Alquada arttacked us, not afghanistan.we ignored the world’s condemnation of saddam for gassing the kurds only to resurrect that outrage when we needed a new military base and possibly a new oil supply after those uppity saudis caused problems for us for having bases in arabia and propping up corrupt saudi governmnt for cheap below market oil prices.[9-11 as blowback]. iraq not being fundamentalist looked like a hassle free new base for us now that arabs[ we falsely assessed were fundamentalists but in fact alquada was simply freedom fighters against american or soviet domination via invasions or proxy regime against the people] were rising up against our meddling in arabia. We don‘t attack in the name of christianity it’s true. but we have invaded and occupied and murdered and tortured perhaps millions of muslims in the name of our religion”americanism’.[although if the norwegiians' terroist acts based on cultural christianity ideology gains any traction cultural christianity[a modified irreligous foil to our genocidal anti muslim agenda] might once again be used by [modied] christians to murder non [modiefied] christians.

      Close:
      1. the policy of extending the rule or authority of an empire or nation over foreign countries, or of acquiring and holding colonies and dependencies.
      2. advocacy of imperial interests.
      3. an imperial system of government

That doesn’t say anything about only using the country for financial gain, because they ran out of resources. And holding….they take over a country and move in. I don’t think that applies to us and Afghanistan.

The Army, Navy, Airforce & Marines stopped conducting background investigations in 1973. The Defense Investigative Service was formed to conduct background investigations for Top Secret clearances.

The US Army Counterintelligence Corps was restructured.

As a former Special Agent, US Army Counterintelligence Corps, I think it probably safe to say that Counterintelligence Agents still conduct different types of investigations targeted at threats to the military mission.

That’s not entirely true. I joined the Navy in 1984, for a Secret classification. I had a back ground check run on me, and had a high school teacher questioned. I had a class mate in A school who almost didn’t get his secret classification because he had a charge as a juvenile involving dynomite (he was playing with it like a stupid kid). So it’s not just top secret. Can’t talk about anything under Secret, though. I do know I had to sign an agreement not to talk about what I did in the Navy for 10 years.

      I kept it “lite”

Colonization and imperial domination today is not what it was in the 1890s. For the most part, it is market colonization and political subjugation. Like, for example, NAFTA was an act of imperialism to open up the Mexican corn markets to US agribusiness and also to open up the country to US companies for lower labor costs.

Ultimately, “Free trade” killed the Mexican economy, forced its constitution to be changed, and caused a mass exodus to the north. Whole villages that mad a living off of ejidos (community farms) ended up moving to the US.

NOPE, it’s about trying to help the people of those other countries. Keep them from starving to death, giving them medical attention and supplies, helping them in many, many ways. Helping them join the modern world to whatever extent we can help and they can help themselves. Many times the governments are so corrupt that our foodstuffs and supplies don’t get to where they should, but that’s not sinister on the U.S.’s part. The best thing to do is ask the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. Or Poland, or Hungaria, or you name it, there are many more countries we’ve helped over the last century, whose people could tell you if they appreciated the U.S.’s help or not.

Islam is not a religion. It is more a political idea sold to the poor and illiterate of the world as a religion to keep them frightened and in line. True religions do not preach hate and murder. No Muslim should be allowed anywhere near our military facilities or serve in capacity to elected or appointed political office or officials. Just makes good sense to keep the garbage at the street.

Yes, agree; however we have a little problem with our “freedoms” here — you have to prove they are seditious or whatever & that is near impossible because they know that and make sure their real motives are hidden. It’s always been a humongous problem for the world and will be until the end. In addition, looks like our wonderful treasonous Obama Admin. is backing them to help them bring down America and get rid of Israel. They’ll worry about taking care of the Muslims who then will try to destroy THEM & establish a caliphate……..later. No worries.

Just a little info to you, Brievek was not a Christian either, he said Christians were weak minded and he had not yet been weak enough to feel the need to ask for God’s help. If Christianity is fear based then show me the last time someone told you to convert or you would feel lighter on you shoulders when they took your head from you? I don’t ride in taxi cabs or shop in convenience stores or buy liquor from a Muslim storekeeper. I keep my distance and keep my eye on them everywhere I see them. The Air Force are where a lot of the brainy/geeky types who “have” to enter the Military because for one reason or another, they can’t go directly to college end up. They know they‘ve got the best chance of avoiding standing on the front lines with a rifle in their hands if they’re in the Air Force, so that’s where they gravitate to. I‘ve known my share of people who’ve gone in for those EXACT reasons. They didn’t particularly like the country, and are actually quite leftist in their politics. It was just a way to get a leg up on college and/or civilian employment, for them.

The only drone here is you. Since the 1970′s the Military has been all volunteer. Any liberal that joins had better be aware that they can be deployed at any time so if they need to conscience object they can do it right out the door, or don’t join in the first place. Maybe that’s why fewer than 20% of the people in the military say they are Democrats and far fewer will admit they are empty headed liberals like yourself.
