TMZ is reporting that former wrestler “Macho Man” Randy Savage died in a head-on car accident in Tampa, FL early Friday morning:
Florida Highway Patrol tells TMZ … Savage was driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler when he veered across a concrete median … through oncoming traffic … and “collided head-on with a tree.”
Savage was transported to Largo Medical center, where he died from his injuries.
Savage’s wife was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision — but survived with “minor injuries.” She was transported to a different local hospital where she was treated.
According to officials, Randy and Lynn were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Cops say alcohol was NOT a factor.
Savage’s brother told TMZ the former wrestler, who also started in Slim Jim commercials, had a heart attack. He was 58.
UPDATE:
The Associated Press has confirmed Savage’s death:
Randy “Macho Man” Savage, the professional wrestler known for his raspy voice, the sunglasses and bandanas he wore in the ring and the young woman named Miss Elizabeth who often accompanied him, died in a car crash Friday in Florida. He was 58.
A Florida Highway Patrol crash report said the former wrestler – whose legal name was Randy Mario Poffo – was driving a Jeep Wrangler when he lost control in Pinellas County around 9:25 a.m. The Jeep veered over the raised concrete median divider, crossed over the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a tree.
Police said he may have suffered a “medical event” before the accident, but the report did not elaborate, and it said officials would need to perform an autopsy to know for sure.
The report said a woman in the vehicle, identified as Barbara Poffo, suffered minor injuries. A statement from Stamford, Conn.-based World Wrestling Entertainment said the passenger was the wrestler’s wife.
“Poffo will be greatly missed by WWE and his fans,” the statement said.

He drove across a merridian (My jeep and I do that always because they are a stupid invention that prevents me from going where I want to and wastes fuel getting around them.) through oncomming traffic and into a tree! Was he chasing a squirel??? How does that happen???

Posted on May 20, 2011 at 1:27pmLikely the heart attack from roid use had more to do with the accident than speed did…he was driving a jeep after all…not exactly speed machine. Nice post though. See you in the skies!

According to his brother, Randy had a heart attack while driving which caused his accident so where does the speed, a jeep and a tree come into it? If he did have a heart attack then he was probably dead when they hit the tree, I have never known where wearing a seatbelt has saved someone’s life if they die from a heart attack.

Posted on May 20, 2011 at 1:32pmProve it had to do with roid use, for someone his age it is not uncommen for a heart attack.

Report Post »If you read the story (a stretch), it states that he died from his injuries at the hospital and he hit a tree with a jeep which would require something called Speed. What does Randy’s brother have to do with it? Was he in the Jeep too? How in the world would he know that Randy had a heart attack while driving? You have taken enough of my time, goodbye.

Posted on May 20, 2011 at 2:31pmSome of those off road jeep tires can be really squirrelly driving at highway speeds. I’ve had my Jeep sort of veer suddenly many times.

“On 20 May 2011, Savage was killed in a car accident in Seminole, Florida after apparently suffering a heart attack while driving.” Also after looking at the condition of the car only an idiot would consider that speed was involved. Working as a firefighter I have seen hundreds of accidents and you can tell what was caused by speed based on the damage shown. Also, anyone that hears something like this and automatically states that something like speed is at fault (was this to just get attention on here?). Perhaps I could be wrong since you so obviously was right there when it happened so that you are the only one with the facts. Another thing, usually when someone dies the family usually is the first to know what the cause is believed to be.
You have taken enough of MY time, GOODBYE!!!
