Reporter Nearly Blown Away by High Winds on Live TV

From the Cleveland Scene blog (via TV Spy):
Rule No. 1 of weather reporting: It’s not raining unless your anchor looks like he just emerged from a dunk-tank, it’s not snowy unless he looks like Frosty the Snowman standing next to a grid-locked highway, and it‘s sure as hell not windy unless he’s outside, being blown around, hair whipping in the wind, trying to scream over the noise.
19 Action News knows this rule, which is why they dispatched a reporter into the hurricane-force wind early this morning. The segment, which involved showing how the wind could close a car door (we’re not exactly sure what the proves either), had some unexpected hilarity after the crew realized they had locked themselves out of the van after the wind blew the door shut. Bonus: They had to break a window to get back into the vehicle.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 8:48amWow, sure is funny how the cameraman is able to hold his camera so steady. Maybe the wind wasn’t blowing as strongly where he was standing…. or maybe the reporter IS that big of a ham, contrary to his claim.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 8:13amThese reporters are so stupid sorry there is no way I would put my life on the line to tell people about how bad the weather is when I can look right outside my window with my own eyes. They have families and children don’t they care about them if something happens to them. They wonder why people go outside it‘s because they think well their out their so some are just followers instead of leaders I’ll be a leader and stay inside out of harms way.GOD GAVE ME A BRAIN AND EXPECTS ME TO USE IT WISELY.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 1:12pmMakes me recall a scene from a movie where a reporter was reporting on high winds or something and he got totally nailed by a huge billboard. Kinda funny in the movie, but this will happen for real if these idiots don’t start taking their lives more seriously than their jobs.

I’m not sure about the men vs women thing, but I always thought it pretty stupid to be out in bad weather, when no one else, with any sense, wouldn’t. Anyway, that being said, I noted, and this is strange, that in these weather-related stories the camera guy doesn’t seem to have problems – is he a 1,200 lb gorilla?
Report Post »grandmaof5
Posted on April 29, 2011 at 9:44amDALE, great point! Must be the 1,200lb gorilla theory, or the wimpy 100 lb reporter.

Posted on April 29, 2011 at 2:22pmGeez. Why does he sound drunk and keep going around in circles? This reminds me of the idiot reporters when I lived in FL. During the hurricanes, they would stand out in the wind and exaggerate. It is much more believable to be taken aback by some wind gusts then to keep pretending to be blown away by the wind.
