TV Reporter Shot in Hand With BB Gun During Live Report — Updated With Full Clip

UPDATE: Scroll for full newscast clip below.

FONTANA, Calif. (The Blaze/AP) — Authorities said a reporter has been shot in the hand with a BB gun pellet while giving a live report on Southern California weather.

Lt. Mark Weissman of the Fontana Police Department said KABC-TV news reporter Leann Suter was hit as she gave the report near Interstate 15 at about 6 p.m. Saturday. She was taken to a hospital, but was not seriously injured.

Weismann said two boys ages 16 and 17 were arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Other BB guns were reportedly recovered at a nearby home.

KABC President and General Manager Arnold J. Kleiner said in a statement that station officials are grateful Suter wasn’t seriously hurt.

“Our crews and reporters are very conscious of good safety practices and take proper precautions when on assignment. They could not have anticipated that someone would decide to target them in this way,” Kleiner said.

Watch Suter’s full report below. Around the two-minute mark she begins to sound hesitant and pauses several times, but remains poised on camera.

You’ll shoot your eye out! You’ll shoot your eye out!

If I had been caught shooting someone with my BB gun, I wouldn’t have ever seen that gun again, and I would’ve been barred from dove hunts and quail hunts. I knew that the consequences of stupidity were severe, and not from the local magistrate.

However, I did shoot my brother in the butt with a Crossman air rifle. He’d pump it up once and shoot our cat in the hind-end with it. I insisted that it hurt the cat. So, he took up his position with his butt toward me at about 20 paces. I pumped the air rifle once, loaded a BB, aimed, fired, and hit him just below the right pocket of his Levis. He screamed, YEEEOW! He never shot the cat again.

Ya.. it’s not very exciting. It seems that she was shot when they were showing images of the storm and not while they were showing the reporter. I did notice she moves her left hand out of screen, so I assume that’s where she was shot.

A random rainstorm and a random shooting. What a random day in SoCal!

There was a kid killed by a pellet from a BB gun in Cleveland a few years ago, so you could make a case for it being a deadly weapon. Dangerous seems more reasonable since it usually takes a very bad stroke of luck for somebody to get killed with a BB.

The text of the article says deadly weapon, but the video report says dangerous weapon. I guess we need a tiebreaker. Either way unless this is a top-end BB gun, it isn’t either. New can we stop arguing about who has the better bowel movement.

Fontana is one of the inland Southern California slim holes that is a breading ground for gangbangers.
Much like Ontario, San Bernardino, Perris, Rialto, Colton, Moreno Valley, Menifee, Wildomar, Hemet and on and on. These once quiet alternatives to Los Angeles are infested with trash of all colors. Graffiti and guns are all these people do………after they cash their entitlement checks that is.

I‘m surprised the 16 policemen in full riot gear didn’t come out and taser the kids for “resisting” arrest.

That said, IF the boys shot at her deliberately, they need community service, anger management classes, gun safety classes, a parents foot up their behind and a mental eval to see if they are psychopaths or just plain stupid. .

IF the boys were horsing around and did not deliberately shoot at her, SH*T happens. No harm. No fowl. They take a gun safety course. Period.

The parents should pick up the reporters actual out of pocket ER costs.

Hey Blazers– In our zeal to trash all thing Odumbo or to take the Blaze to task for faulty coverage let us not miss the bigger point here. WHO TAUGHT THESE MINI-GOBLINS THAT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO SHOOT AT PEOPLE EVEN WITH A BB GUN?? When I was a young man I too owned a BB gun and if I aimed it at the wrong target much less actually shot the wrong target I was severly disciplined by my father. Dad drummed safety safety safety into us from the day he handed us our first BB gun. My brothers and I graduated to larger and more effient firearms and on to hunting and I can safely say that none of us has ever shot another person by accident or just to be malicious. I was taught never to point at anything or anyone I was not prpared to kill and it is a lesson that is still with me after 50 years. They are not toys they are dangerous/deadly WEAPONS and these goblins must be taught that lesson and soon…..Just sayin’

I’ve shot metal pellets with an air rifle. They are capable of penetrating flesh pretty easily, just ask the snakes and etc shot at. They are dangerous, while rarely lethal, they can cause a bloody wound if you have the right kind of rifle. You can also pump them more than they are supposed to go (did it once myself) and it would have easily penetrated flesh at the range I was shooting it from at that power. It’s a good thing they are balls, rather than bullet shaped. So not so much deadly, but definitely dangerous.
