Republican Senator: Cruz‘s Texas Victory Means ’We‘re Going to Bury’ Obamacare ‘And Dance on Its Grave’

Mike Lee Says Ted Cruz Win Means GOP Will Bury Obamacare and Dance on Its Grave

Sen. Mike Lee (UT).

One sitting Utah senator is making a strong prediction: The victory of Ted Cruz means conservatives will “dance on the grave” of Obamacare.

In an impassioned exclusive to TheBlaze, GOP Senator Mike Lee of Utah punctuated the importance of the Ted Cruz victory in the Texas race for U.S. Senate runoff Tuesday night. Lee, who was the first sitting senator to endorse Cruz in the primary, spoke to TheBlaze from FreedomWorks headquarters in Washington, D.C. moments after the win.

“It’s impossible to overstate the significance of this win tonight,” Lee said. “With people all over the country trying to predict the demise of the conservative movement this proves them all wrong.”

The senator went on to assert that the majority of American people are looking for a federal government that is limited in enumerated powers.

“The federal government has simply become too big and too expensive,” he said. “It has become that way because it is doing to many thing that is was never intended to do.”

Lee, who was voted into office on a harsh rebuttal of the president’s agenda in 2010, referenced the lack of checks and balances that occur in today’s federal government as the root of the problem.  The senator particularly targeted the oversight breakdown between the Supreme Court and Congress.

“Congress has sort of taken the signal from the Supreme Court that because the Supreme Court has been willing to allow Congress to do a lot of things without interference from the courts, Congress has read that as a signal that anything it wants to do is constitutional,” he explained. “That isn’t really true.”

Lee berated the “mindset” that government will provide for all the countries needs.  He cited the federal takeover of healthcare and the auto industry as gross overreaches of federal power.  He noted that the practice of constitutional overreach has “had a good long run for 75 years.  It hasn’t worked.  It’s gotten us nearly 16 trillion dollars in debt.”

Lee went on to say that this form of government will end with the election of “true constitutional conservatives” like Cruz.  When asked what the Cruz victory means for the fate of Obamacare, Lee colorfully came out swinging, lauding the potential to “bury” the polarizing piece of legislation:

“[Obamacare's] days are numbered.  That ill-conceived piece of legislation is going to meet its demise.  We’re going to bury it.  And we‘ll dance on it’s grave.”

The American voting public will have a chance to rebuke a great deal of the presidents agenda in November, where Cruz will likely be a favorite in the growing GOP momentum to take back the Senate.  The Republicans are four seats shy from securing a senate majority and therefore having the authority to hypothetically defund and repeal Obamacare.

Listen to the senator’s impassioned interview below:

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. Obamacare is not dead yet and Obama has not lost yet. The left will pull out every dirty trick they can think of to win this election. Everything from start a war to rig the election results. They are not above anything. This is why they must be defeated. We can’t compromise with them. But it’s not just democrats – it’s progressiveism. Progressive democrats and republicans.

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the US. Texas also is ranked the lowest in the nation for the quality of healthcare for the average resident.

So way to go Texas. You’ve elected a guy for whom being the worst is not good enough. He, I guess, won’t be happy until healthcare reaches the level of third world countries (unless, of course, you’re rich). Then maybe Texas will at last be free.

@man on a mission – Romney is pretty progressive for sure, but a TOASTER could get elected over the anti American failure in the White House. And while I think that we could certainly have had a better candidate for President, there is more to getting back to the constitution in both houses, than the oval office.

The founders of the nation were right about the Republic form of government that it would not last and in 1860 the first crack appeared. We will not and we can not continue to live as slaves of a Communist government. The whole three branches of Government are broken and like Humpty Dumpty cannot be put back together.

@JZS: 1) every county in TX must provide healthcare to every indigent RESIDENT. no photo ID required just some sort of proof that the person lives in the county. there’s no screening for illegals.

      2) urban areas have a # of charity clinics for people w/o health insurance whose income is too high for Medicaid/Medicare or the county program. the clinics are either free or offer a sliding fee scale (as low as $0). payment plans are avail. CHURCHES mostly run the clinics. TX lists the clinics on its website.

      3) 1/3 of Texans live in rural areas which are historically difficult to serve.

      4) disingenuously, you use the term ” uninsured RESIDENTS.” TX has the 3rd largest # of illegal aliens who are rarely insured.

      5) according to the National Healthcare Quality Report (NHQR) 10 states have “weak” healthcare quality scores (the article you used isn’t fact). every other state is “avg.” only 1, NH, is “strong.” TX is not the weakest in quality of healthcare, WV is. and NHQR hasn’t any baseline data for TX which skews their statistics.

      6) NHQR scores are not adjusted for larger #s of seriously ill patients. TX medical centers attract very ill patients from around the world. NHQR‘s assumptions don’t apply to such hospitals nor do they account for any factors re successfully treating those diagnosed as terminally ill.

Obamacare does not improve the CARE provided for anyone. There was nothing about improving CARE in the bill. Anyone in America legally or illegally has access to the best health care in the world. Obamacare only provides insurance coverage to a few additional people at a much greater expense than if we just cared for them as we do now. The uninsured still get care, we already pay for the care. Now with the Obamacare tax we just have to pay more to insurers administrative cost to provide the same care. That’s progressive thinking for you.

Actually it does not provide insurance either. It just says they have to be covered and they have to purchase it. No limit on what the insurance costs can be for that coverage. And if you cannot afford it there are supposed to be tax credits and state exchanges, but to keep the costs under the projection the bill does not allocate funding for these. So if the state cannot afford the exchange…The bill requires you to get health insurance but does nothing to make it more affordable. And costs actually went UP on existing AFFORDABLE plans, because of the new mandates on things the MUST be covered. So you can no longer get a cheep, basic plan. This bill was a big joke. I have a bumpersticker that says “OBAMACARE…If you’re FOR IT, you haven’t READ IT”.

You got that right. Ever been to a VA hospital? That’s what everyone is going to be looking at…drive them through like cattle. IN THE HEALTH care bill (sorry can’t quote page and article) is a provision for doctors to hold GROUP well checks, so that they can spend just one hour and get co-pays and reimbursement from 10-20 people (I think the number was something like 15 or 17, don’t remember. It‘s been 3 years since I read the thing and I didn’t get all the way through.) Also, when it fully kicks in, I think in 2014, ALL medical transactions WILL be conducted via immediate transfer from your bank account. I guess you’ll have to start putting the electric bill on your credit card. No more putting expensive deductibles on credit and paying them off slowly. Funny, but I‘m sure they’ll wait a couple months before they actually get it to your doctor, because they’ll invest it to try to make it grow before they send it on their way, and keep the interest.

My objection to Obamacare is that it got shoved down my throat and I am still trying to barf it out. If people want socialized medicine then look at the rest of the world that provides this service. it is poor quality service and if you want better service you have to pay for it through non gov’t doctors.

True that most amaericans want some improvement to our medical system, and the only way for solving such an emotional issue, we need to have town hall meetings to hear people. Not have screaming matches (us against them), but sit down in communities and listen to people what they want. Then compile the information, post it on the inetrenet/newspapers and let people see what others have said. These ideas could be published and people make their picks of the best ideas and then fine out what the cost will be and then people will back the ideas or reject them. When you involve people in major ideas they feel involved and get on board.

If the Republicans don’t involve the masses in the healthcare issue, and do what the democrates did they too will fail. Listen to and ask the people and not just the connected few.

@CHROMO “…. If people want socialized medicine then look at the rest of the world that provides this service. it is poor quality service and if you want better service you have to pay for it through non gov’t doctors…”

Did Americans really want socialized medicine? No. This is a radical take over. Americans had the best health care services in the world. Problems yes, but not requiring a wholesale usurpation of the industry. Healthcare will never improve if you remove competition. Competition is the only thing that keeps the patient in the equation. Granted litigation has also disrupted the landscape, but these were things the Conservatives sought to address. As the balance tips from private to public you can feel the pull. The government is jealous of the abilities, foresight, efficiency and planning, of the private sector.

Private companies collude with each other to keep these out .. No chance for the market place to compete.

Their were three alternative bills introduced during the Obamacare debacle but you wouldn’t know that if you are indoctrinated by the left media/acedemia. I do agree that we need to be smart about getting rid of Obamacare as much as I hate it and make sure we have a good plan laid out before we pull the trigger. Instead of putting through a bill that is 2000 pages where no one can read it and ramming it through in the middle of night. Maybe we will get back to the doctor patient relationship without a middle man(employer based, Gov, heavily regulated health insurance club). Then the free market will thrive again! If we don’t we will be dancing like the UK in their olympic introduction. Try not to be in such a hurry to give up all your freedoms for percieved securities.

But don’t forget:) The guy who made the blueprint for Obamacare may be in the executive branch. Doesn’t he have to sign somehting?

When I talk to my Conservative friends – they all say that the one thing missing from the Republican platform when it comes to Obamacare – is a PLAN for an ALTERNATIVE.

Has anyone else heard of such a plan?

Not trying to give the GOP a black eye – just curious if I am not informed or if there actually is none.

IF there is none – then the GOP has some work to do.
IF there is something in place – then the GOP has some work to do.

We should be replacing it with allowing purchase of insurance over state lines. That way we can get some real competition in the insurance market.

The basic fault in the Act itself is in trying to solve ALL healthcare problems at once. There are lots of ideas, plans, intended to chip away at the healthcare problem, one aspect ata time. Tort reform being a huge one.

I’m tired of Washington trying to “fix” problems. They are incapable. The GOP should do nothing on healthcare. The economy will collapse first, and it will just have been wasted time.

It will be replaced by many small bills. NO MORE 2700 page bills that no one reads. NO MORE Stimulus Bills with the set-up fees to HHS buried in them!

The GOP has many great ideas to bring costs down. These reforms have been talked about over. Bring down cost of doctor liability insurance costs through reform of litigaiton. Allow compitition between health insurance companies across state lines. Health Savings Accounts. Decuctions to individuals for HC costs. Get rid of HMO and PPO. Let individuals buy their own insurance so when job is changed you still have health insurance. Let people buy catastrophic HC with higher deductible. Their are thousands of ways to make it a free market competitive system where WE WIN and drive costs down through individual responsibility and common sense. Here is a huge secret hidden from the masses: Faith in Jesus Christ can heal EVERYTHING.

There are good alternative ideas out there, but the most important think would be to let the “free market” actually be free again. I work in the health care industry and we are already so shackled by government regulations (with medicare, medicaid, etc., etc.,) that it is unbelievable. As in most businesses these days, those regulations are doing more to drive costs up than anything.

Get the Feds entirely out of the Business of Business and constrain them to their legitimate duties.

Of course, that’ll take a full blown Revolution to get done; once a Parasite latches on it’s tough to get it off without killing it.

Kill off Medicare/Medicaid/SocialSecurity/et al and let the private sector breath again. Take the Power from the Feds and give it back to the People and we’ll figure it out. It’s become clear, after 10,000 years of recorded History that Government is never going to make things better because it always grows until it consumes its Host (read “Us”).

If We can’t do it what the hell makes you think They can?

I have only heard some suggestions to add or change some things, but not a complete plan.
Whatever they o, they had better make it business and insurance friendly.
Exclude illegals if they cannot show a green card. Penalize people who go to the emergency for a headache. Stop giving FAT people handicap placards, or the gastrointestinally-challenged as I call them. The only handicap they have is an open mouth.

An alternative plan is not difficult.
      1. The insurance companies only pay out 10 or 15% over the Medicare allowable.
Medicare allowables are approx. 1/3 of the charged fee.
Insurance companies and reduce their premiums so everyone can afford insurance (by 50%).
      2. Open up the health insurance market so that employers and self-insured can purchase from
any health insurance company in ANY STATE in the USA.
      3. Physicians and hospitals should only be able to “charge” everyone the highest fee that they
accept from the insurance companies (10 or 15% over the Medicare allowable).
In plain words, everyone gets the same discount whether they have health insurance or not.
No more $10.00 for a box of tissues.
In fact, most of these hospitals get their tissues and a lot of items for FREE from the manufacturers
and if that is the case, they should not be allowed to charge a dime for it.

If you still cannot afford health insurance, you should be able to qualify for welfare (mediCAID). Welfare (mediCAID) should start paying the Medicare allowable fees so more physicians and hospitals accept welfare (mediCAID), not the pittance they pay WHEN they pay anything at all.

There are alternatives if Congress can think on their own for five minutes about the people of this country and not the lobbiests from the insurance companies, the AMA, the pharmaceutical industry and who know how many others.

@ System…have to be careful about the “across state lines” idea since that will then open the common interpretation of the Interstate Commerce crap. Since “across state lines: would then indeed be interstate commerce.

If you want “across state lines” start with your own state legislature. The state laws create the “no competition” rules. A better solution is to encourage states to create environments (and insurnance regs) that allow for competition.

Do we really want to open the door for more Fed involvement?

An alternative plan has been mentioned and talked about over and over and over. Open up medical insurance to the free market, across state lines. This will bring down the price of medical insurance dramatically. Right now, we have insurance companies who have cornered the market in some states and can basically charge what they want to. Also, there needs to be insurance co-ops like group medical plans for people who don’t have access to a group plan. This will also bring down insurance cost. Medicaid and Medicare need much stricter oversight. Cut out the fraud, bring down the costs and be able to cover many more people who need it. There are many many alternatives to Obamacare that will work, the main one being the free market and eliminating fraud in the system already in place.

The government has no business legislating this! They need to remove restrictions and let us make our own choices! Is whether or not to kill an unborn baby the only choice they are going to allow us to make? How long will it be before they take that choice away and start having mandatory abortions, like China?

don’t repeal obamacare without repealing regulations that prevent competition among insurance companies otherwise health insurance could skyrocket and the dems could come back into power.
