‘Repulsive’: NY Police Chief Unloads on Politicians Who Supported Occupy Camp

Albany Police Chief Says Occupy Sympathizers on City Council Should Be Ashamed

Tensions have been at a boiling point between the Albany (NY) police force, Occupy Albany protesters, and members of the city council. During a meeting before Albany’s Common Council last week, Chief Steven Krokoff made his frustrations known and verbally attacked several council members by name for, as he says, capitalizing on recent traumas in the city for their own political gain. NBC 13 has Chief Krokoff’s heated testimony:

Chief Krokoff was defending his police force for the dismantling of the Occupy Albany encampment on December 22, which he ordered, and included the pepper-spraying of several occupiers. NBC 13 reports that the meeting became hostile after Councilman Ron Bailey said it would cost the city $7,600 to clean up Academy Park where the Occupy Albany protesters had been encamped.

Several city council members had been vocal in support for Occupy Albany, and the Chief made clear his opinion of those sentiments, as well as the actions of a group of people within Occupy Albany:

  • Shame on a very small group of people within the Occupy Albany movement who chose not to take their frustrations to court and translate those frustrations into legal action.
  • Shame on that small group of people who defied common decency and demonstrated a lack of respect for fellow human beings
  • Shame on a group of people that chose to convolute their own organizational message by conducting themselves without dignity and without concern for their fellow citizens
  • Shame on Councilman Calsolaro, a leader in this city, who lacked the internal discipline to keep from getting caught up in the emotion and frenzy of those moments. When your department needed your leadership you were not there
  • Shame on Councilman Konev and Councilman Freeman, who at every turn, seem so willing to distort the truth of any situation, no matter how tragic, and use it for the truth. Shame on you both for mattering so little to yourselves and your community that you have to create hate and further half-truths just to feel some sense of relevancy. The entire city has seen the content of your character and I pity you both. You have each failed in your positions as leaders. You have failed yourselves, your citizens and your police department.

There have been mixed reactions within the community since Krokoff’s remarks Thursday night.

Albany Police Chief Says Occupy Sympathizers on City Council Should Be Ashamed

“He spoke from his heart and said what he had to say and were gonna move on.”  Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings told CBS 6. Councilman Konev said that the chief’s comments were “distasteful and name calling.”

Councilman Freeman says he will continue to ask for an independent investigation of the police’s actions, saying it’s what people in his community want.

we need more like, but with the idiots who are in charge support these freeloading morons,it will be hard for anyone to speak out, they continue to support the very people who will not pay taxes so the cites or states can pay their bills, so when someone like this police man speaks out,the only one who cares is him and maybe the people who live there, the freeloaders and stupid communist politicians will legitimize them so much that the people will either be fired or just told to seat down and shut up, we need more people like him to speak up,these idiots are costing already struggling cities and states a lot of money they already don’t have, but hey, when obama and the left wing commie loving idiots want and support them, they will just stay there and keep on creating ciaos,i think every politician should have to pay for the over time and clean up,they should also charge the freeloaders for the cost.

Police Chiefs do not write the laws, they only enforce them – the legislative & executive branches of local Gov’t write the laws… Don‘t blame police chiefs if you don’t like a law.

Also, NYC is where the tourists are being arrested with legal guns & permits from other states, this fellow is police chief of Albany, NY – that’s upstate New York, not Manhattan.

      @burnthills

Albany is not NY City. This particular police chief is a veritable hero in our country as it stands today simply for acting on his principles and then having the “gall” (as I’m sure the asanine councilmen who had thier indefensible behavior called to light by this man would say) to publicly defend those principles after the fact rather than making apologies.
In regards (further) to your specific comment about the three individuals arrested on weapons charges again remember that this occured in New York City, most counties, townships and boroughs, at least by my understanding within the state of New York have personally reasonable ownership standards and concealed as well as open carry regulations. Places like L.A. New York City, and also Washington D.C. have ridiculous unconstititional gun laws, but those places are communist hell-holes anyway so I certainly wouldn’t have any desire to live in or visit those places.

I can’t stand any of the candidates. However Ron Paul is the only hope for constitution restoration. End the Fed see the thing is that without constitution and monetary restoration we will not need foreign policy.Because we wont be here as a nation. I would like Ron Paul to answer the charges of appointing Soros people. But the rest of them have way more to answer to then just a few issues like that and earmarks. Glenn buddy my hero! The truth has no agenda but you do. Why? And why are almost all of the blazes story’s almost identical to the ones on yahoo.I just hope Glenn is trying to get the people who hate him to vote for Ron Paul by tearing him down. And the Beck followers are smart enough to figure out Ron Paul is the way to go on their own. I don’t agree 100% with Pauls polices but if we don’t stop the monetary slide Americas done. What war can we not win with a congressional mandate that’s all he wants lets stop fighting endless wars and policing the world. Iran for instance lets get a mandate and fight them with everything we have beat them into submission not rebuild their country and leave. ——————-

Ron Paul DID NOT SAY HE DIDN’T SUPPORT ISRAEL! Ron Paul said Israel is one of our best friends and of course he would give them aid—if they asked. They said “we don’t need your money, we need your friendship” — and they have it.

Ron Paul stands with Israel and for you to say he does not is just not true.

If the occupiers are so worried about an ‘independent’ investigation of the police force taking place, they should also desire that any of them arrested and charged should have their charges handled independently, right? So as to avoid local bias? Therefore I think the state should step in and prosecute them with state charges, you know, so it stays ‘independent’. Of course, charges on a state level are almost universally more punatitive than charges on a municipal level, and I think that would be good for some occupiers.

That isn’t a blanket attack on cops. That’s a blanket attack on the extensive history of the ACTIONS of that PUBLIC institution that is paid for with my tax dollars. I have a right to criticize that institution as a whole, as I pay for it.

Blacks aren’t a public institution and to make general comments about a group of people in that fashion is BIGOTTRY. I don’t have to stereotype cops, there’s enough instances of egregious actions of that public institution as a whole for my comments to be vindicated.

Each protestor was fingerprinted and back ground checks were run. First timers were let go. People that were continuing the protests $5000 bond and bonds up to $25000 the protestors said they would sue.
