TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — An Arizona restaurant has decided to scrap plans to offer African lion meat in its tacos.
Bryan Mazon, the owner of Boca Tacos and Tequila, said Monday that his Tucson eatery has received “many threats” against the restaurant, family members, customers and vendors since he announced last week that he was taking prepaid orders for the exotic tacos.
Boca planned to start serving the lion tacos Feb. 16 at a cost of $8.75 apiece.
Mazon says his restaurant received orders from people around the world. The eatery already has served up python, alligator, elk, kangaroo, rattlesnake, oysters, turtle, duck and frog legs in its tacos.
Mazon says he’ll continue to bring unique menu items to the Tucson community and his customers, but not at the expense of safety.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 9:25amYea, let’s not eat lions, k? please? i was so p.o.’d when i read this story and tried to find an address to write this owner a letter. I hope he goes out of business and has to find work helping animals instead of finding the latest trend no matter the cost to the animals we are supposed to treat humanely. truly. This owner is all about the almighty buck. There is a difference between chickens and lions, use your brain. Period.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:20am“endangered species” is another misnomer. Serving lion meat and making a profit at it would ensure the lions breeding and ultimate survival.
Same way we don’t seem to have a scarcity of chickens, we would not have a scarcity of lions.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 7:19amLion meat tastes a bit like condor or bald eagle except a bit more gamie. If you grind up a few snail darters and add just a touch of San Fransisco seal meat you can get a taste that might remind you of Polar Bear. Makes great jerky.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 12:57amI honestly wish that I weren’t a meat eater , but I am. I don’t think that I could eat lion, or dog, monkey, domestic cats,or horses. I don’t have any logical explaination for it. I guess it depends on if I were hungry enough. Lions are so beautiful and exotic. That seems odd from a woman that has a freezer filled with deer, rabbit, and squirrel. I guess it boils down to breeding wild animals and taking them out of their natural habitat. I just don’t approve of that. I lived on a farm for years. Selling hogs and cattle or having them butchered was a way of life. As was hunting. But lions? The resteraunt has the right to serve whatever they want however.

Posted on January 26, 2011 at 12:00amI have eaten Lion burgers and I would buy these tacos. But they are pricey and probably not for everyone. But Lion meat is very good and very lean and good for you. I don’t know what the problem is everyone should be able to eat and buy what they want without being threatened for it. I remember a few years ago how people were treated like leppers for buying a foriegn automobile, now everyone buys them and it’s the norm. It‘s funny how people act to something that they don’t know anything about but just follow along with all the mindless others. I would rather hang out with people that can think for themselves and that we can agree to disagree and still be friends. I agree with most of the posts here this is just strange article to be talking about, but it does touch on a core issue for our country. This issue is that we are turning into a country that an individual can’t have any individual choice to go about his or her day without someone lodging a complaint or trying to make some big deal about it.

Snake, lizard, probably monkey meat, bilute (Duck eggs on the verge of hatching and then buried for a month or two to forment before eating, probablt didn’t spell it right) water buffalo, goat pigion, we can eat just about anything. I’ve tryed coyote but it has a pissy taste.

Posted on January 25, 2011 at 7:28pmThe suit claims that Taco Bell’s meat-like offering is filled with extenders and other non-meat substances listed in the lawsuit like water, “Isolated Oat Product,” wheat oats, soy lecithin, maltodrextrin, anti-dusting agent, autolyzed yeast extract, modified corn starch and sodium phosphate as well as beef and seasonings. Yum!
As the USDA definition in the lawsuit says, to be called “ground beef,“ the product must ”consist of chopped fresh and/or frozen beef with or without seasoning and without the addition of beef fat as such, shall not contain more than 30 percent fat, and shall not contain added water, phosphates, binders, or extenders.”

We should force the people threatening this mans life and property to kill a cow, dress it, hang it to age, and finally butcher it. Maybe then they will get it that we don’t care what they have to say on the subject.

Read the story and you’ll find out the answer.
“Do they really need to use lion?”
What business is it of yours what they use? They aren’t endangered wild lions being hunted. They are raised for their meat. There is a market for it. It’s not immoral. That’s all I need to know.
“How many lions are in the world?”

What does any of it matter to you? The restaurant owner was being an entrepreneur and looking for a way to bring in customers. He isn’t doing anything illegal, so what does it matter? Look, I don’t personally like the taste of liver and onions, though my mom made me eat them until I was bigger than she was. But that doesn‘t mean that I’m going to threaten a business where they serve them. The point of the article was to show how this restaurant owner is being intimidated into submission because someone doesn’t like his menu. We can all speculate on who would be doing that but since Sherrif Dipstick is in charge down there, we will surely only ever have our speculations.

Posted on January 25, 2011 at 7:18pmGlenn Beck just needs to stop the hateful rhetoric now even taco restaurants are receiving threats or is this one Sarah Palins fault? Seriously though I personally wouldn’t eat them, but I think people need to mind their own business. If you are that offended just do not eat there and you can always organize a boycott. If it is legal, and he isn’t doing something that is morally repugnant then just leave these people alone. Speaking of Sarah Palin she could probably hook him up with an ample supply of moose.

Posted on January 25, 2011 at 7:16pmDamn if this isn’t timely. Taco Bell is in the news for having 36% beef in its “taco meat filling.” Hell, this doesn’t even meet govt. standards of what can be called meat; a product must contain at least 40% meat. Okay, folks. It‘s either ’meat‘ OR ’meat and other stuff.’ Which taco would you rather have?
Report Post »Eh, if lion is anything like bear, it likely sucks. Ungulates are tasty; predators don‘t appear to make good eatin’.
Funny how some animals are taboo. Thank you, Disney! ‘Cuz animals are people! Ugh, the talking animal movie is what got that idiot (and his girlfriend) who kept screwing with grizzly bears ate up.
I ain’t pro lion taco, but I ain’t anti lion taco. I do know which end of the food chain I wanna be on this issue. Stupid, cowardly activists… I‘d sell the damn Simba Taco just ’cuz I legally can and DARE them to approach me on it. Terrorism wins again. Hooray.
