Rev. Franklin Graham Apologizes For Refusing to Say Obama Is a Christian

Rev. Franklin Graham Apologizes for Obama Faith Comments

It’s been a week since the Rev. Franklin Graham set off media mayhem over his refusal to admit that President Barack Obama is a Christian. As you may recall, he declined to say that Obama is, in his view, a believer during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

But now, only one week later, the prominent faith leader has issued an apology over the incident saying that he regrets “any comments I have ever made which may have cast any doubt on the personal faith of our president, Mr. Obama.”

Graham went on to clarify his reasons for not supporting the nation’s top leader as a presidential candidate, while also offering him a direct “I’m sorry.” Additionally, he made it clear that his main opposition to Obama centers upon his support for abortion and same-sex marriage.

“I apologize to him and to any I have offended for not better articulating my reason for not supporting him in this election — for his faith has nothing to do with my consideration of him as a candidate,” Graham said in the statement.

See Graham’s original MSNBC comments, below:

In addition to making these comments, Graham also recognized Obama’s self-declaration that he is, indeed, a Christian (read the apology in its entirety).

“The president has said he is a Christian and I accept that (and have said so publicly on many occasions),” he continued.

The statement was issued following a letter that was composed by various faith leaders associated with the NAACP.

(Related: See the Results of The Blaze Faith Poll)

“We were disturbed and disappointed by statements…that questioned whether President Obama is a Christian,” the leaders wrote. “Rev. Graham also seemed to imply that the president may be a Muslim, despite the fact that the president has repeatedly expressed his faith and belief in Jesus Christ.”

I agree with those who say no apology was needed. Except if such was called for to avoid putting a stumbling block in some ignorant or weak Christians path. I weary of Christians who believe the need apologize for every act-just because someone whines I am first among those who finds that all too often it is I and not some one else that has put the stumbling blocks in my path. The fruit of the tree called the Obama doctrine /or administration IF Christian cannot be reconciled to the doctrines of Jesus Christ. And I cannot vote for him-nor support him no matter what My Brother in Christ Franklin Graham might say.

I have not heard or read our president express his faith in Jesus as savior. I have heard him identify himself as a Christian, but that is different. Many when Christ will return will say “Lord, Lord” and He will say He never knew them. Saying you are a Christian is a very different thing from being saved by your belief in Jesus.

Very disappointed in Franklin’s apology! There is never a reason for backing up or down when you are standing on truth. As has been stated here “many claim the name of Christian” without even ascribing the Biblical definition to the claim. Just because I buy a bat, glove and put on a Dodgers jersey doesn’t make me a professional ball player. Notice that Jesus says to those calling themselves Christian attributing it to their acts of supposed faith “I never Knew you’. Huge because Jesus criteria seems to be whether or not He knows us. Knowing the True and Living God will bring a change in us of course. Look; stop, look and listen to what this man says and stands for and the debate is over. I challenge anyone to bring to the table one thing that points to this President being known by our Lord and Savior!!

Rev Graham, has unfortunately, compromised his Faith, by not standing up for TRUTH. Christ called out FALSE teachers, and False belivers PUBLICLY. We will KNOW them by their Works. Obama well well think he is a Christian, but Black Lib theology is the work of satan, and Rev Wright, Obama and others WILL, unfortunately, hear these words: Go away from me, I never KNEW you-Jesus Christ. I am really perplexed why he would apologize! We don’t need to be judging Franklin at all; that is between the Lord and himself. Just remember in Obama’s case: “you’ll know their fruits by their labors!” Plus, he has been shown praying with the Muslims in DC. Now, we know you cannot serve two masters because you will certainly come to love the one more than the other. It’s obvious what this President is by illegally running for, getting on a ballot, let alone all of the things he does AGAINST the Christian faith! I never thought I’d see all of this evil in “fast motion” in my life! If you compare our country just twenty (20) years ago….it was different even then! We need to pray for all Christians everywhere! We all are under attack no matter where we live, work, play or travel!

I have one thing to say to Rev Graham – You are not the Judge – God is and God will Judge all believers and non believers. I would have told those Reporters, it is not up to me to Judge – we all will be Judge on Judgement Day.

Oh Yes – we all will all die once – and then the Judgement. Even Hitler, Obama and Mohammed will be Judge by God and God is not going to ask Rev Graham for his opinion.

I love the Grahams, but I am so disappointment in them – they spent their whole life helping people find Jesus and did not one moment helping them keep Jesus in their heart or teaching us what it takes to be a Christian.

A Christian would not turn his back on the Jews or Israel.
A Christian would not vote for a candidate that wants to enslave people.
A Christian would not purposely lie, cheat, steal or Kill to get an agenda across – Good example “Fast and Furious”
A Christian would not add to or take anything away form the Bible for his own self gain
A Christian would not spread lies to eliminate the Catholic Church.

A Christian would not vote for Obama – not for Food Stamp, Welfare, Obama Cell Phones or Birth Control Pills.

The False Profit is coming – are you arm with the Word of God in order to make a Christian decision – or are you one of those that Jesus said would be the decisive. There are many and Rev Graham is one of them.

I ask you? Does Obama claim to be a Christian to get his own agenda across or does he claim to be a Christian to edify (Lift Up) God. If he is doing it to lift up God – he is a true profit – if he is doing it to get an agenda across – he is a false profit.

Clear your mine – and answer that question! Keep Welfare, Unions, Cell Phones and B/C Pills out of the decision.

DB321 I think you need to clear your mind of all the crap your fed related to what the Bible says and does not say. On a side note a prophet is called of God, not by men. Obama can not become a prophet by doing things that lift of up God; it’s much more than that. He can certainly be a follower of Christ though if he actually does that.

      Here is how I know I am a Christian…

Verse 12: And now, my sons, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that you must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall.

The question really is what is your foundation and I know as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints it is built on the most strong foundation, which is upon the rock of the true living Christ.

Seems to me a lot of so called Christians have built on the wrong foundation. Many Christians accepting homosexuality, liberalism, socialism, man made doctrines, sexual immorality, and the list goes on and on. I am heavily involved in my church and all I see are people who have literally accept Christ as their Savior but then go about doing good… “By their fruits you shall

Every man, woman and child has the agency to believe in who or what they may. If you believe God is a butterfly, that is your right. However, when you associate yourself with a religion you open yourself up to being critiqued against that religion.

Christianity has a wide range of views. Some select certain doctrines and ignore other doctrines. Others choose differing doctrines and choose to ignore their own selective doctrines. Christianity (as it was called shortly after the life of Christ) believed in all of Christ’s doctrines. They were led by Apostles receiving divine revelation who continued to preach and reveal Christ’s doctrines. Therefore one who claims to be a Christian should be compared to the doctrines of Christ found throughout the New Testament.

Unfortunate for Obama, he doesn’t score well in such a critique. In fact, his actions tend to show him as more of an enemy to Christianity than as a friend.

In the original Morning Joe interview , Franklin Graham repeatedly pointed out that Egyption minorities and Christians were not harrassed by the Mubaric regime as they are now.

The Morning Joe crew repeatedly brushed FG’s comments aside and hailed the Egyption Arab Spring as a triumph of democratic majority rule.

Whatever the result, Obama is not pointing out the repressions by this replacement regimes as he did before of Mubaric and Quadafi.

I agree that Franklin has nothing to apologize for. He simply said he didn’t know if President Obama were a Christian. The President says he is and only God and he knows for sure. In fact, Jesus states that many who claimed to be Christians, he will say to them “depart, I never knew you!”…

One thing about Franklin Graham I love, he will always figure out how to deliver the gospel message during any interview aired on one of the networks, every time. This is why he brought up the question, “what is a Christian?” and not because he was questioning the President’s faith. It gave Franklin a chance to explain what a Christian is by delivering the gospel…neat, huh.

Well….this is disappointing. I know he means well but as a “fellow” Christian, I really wish that Christians would handle these things better. Do homework before interviews (see below). Then use his own words and give the definition for “Christian” (thru Jesus ONLY) & leave it, don’t apologize. Do they not know what John the Baptist did? He rebuked the king in public for his sinful “marriage” – no apology & led to his beheading.

“The most detailed and fascinating explanation of .Obama’s faith came in a 2004 interview he gave Chicago Sun-Times columnist Cathleen Falsani when he was running for U.S. Senate in Illinois

    OBAMA:
….This is something that I‘m sure I’d have serious debates with my fellow Christians about. I think that the difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and prostelytize. There’s the belief, certainly in some quarters, that people haven‘t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior that they’re going to hell.

    FALSANI:
    You don’t believe that?

    OBAMA:
I find it hard to believe that my God would consign four-fifths of the world to hell.

I can’t imagine that my God would allow some little Hindu kid in India who never interacts with the Christian faith to somehow burn for all eternity.

That’s just not part of my religious makeup.”

The women stopped dressing like ladies and started wearing the pants (literally). Preachers want to sit on a a bar stool with a golf shirt on, and rap some easy cheesy message that doesn not bring up sin, or anything that would actually convict a person.

      Jakartaman……….100% agree with you.

Rangerp……The ministry has been watered down and Jesus Himself has been portrayed as a weak pansy.
He came the first time as a teacher, servant and sacrifice for all. When He returns He will come as a warrior King and He will spew these weak, liberal churches from His mouth.

I am sick of the caving and apology tour of the right wing in this country! They are as treasonous as Obama and his commie minions!

Franklin, you blinked. You said on msnbc that 0bama said when asked by you about his Christianity that he said that a fellow street hustler told him that if he (0bama) wanted to be a successful street hustler, he had to join a Chicago church. There didn’t seem to me that there was much belief in Christ as his Lord and Savior as motivation. It was all about political expediency. Franklin, you blinked.

I am so sick of apologies. Rev. Graham should have stuck to his guns. No on will ever convince me that Obama is a Christian. I believe and will always believe the man is a Muslim. Rev. Wrights church was the closest thing to a mosque that he could find so he coulld claim to be Christian and be elected.

Come on so called Christian leaders and all you politicians who want to lead America as President, start speaking what you believe and and stand by your words. We don’t have time for luke warm leaders anymore.

Probably best to just say the truth. No man knows the heart of a man, but God. It is however, valid to examine if a person’s actions match his words. We all would fall short, some more than others. Appearances are not always as they seem, especially as presented by the media.

Charles Finney, Billy Sunday, and Dwight L Moody would have never apologized for speaking the truth. They might have apologized to President Obama for failing to tell him the truth, that he is very likely not a Christian.

Gutless wonders. Evangelical at it again.

Wrong-Wing Santorum is wrong for the GOP, wrong for America.

Again, the Evangelicals haved handed the Gov’t to the Democrats, except this time is at the absolute worse possibly time in our country’s history. Obama wins re-election in a landslide and our country is destroyed by the Socialists.

What a ridiculous comment. The President of the United States is a Christian and he stands by his Christian Value. How could a true Christian blame the poor in this country for all of our countrys woes?
Why would a true Christian stand up for the 1% while turning their backs on the poor and middle class? The Bible teaches us that we must never turn our backs on the poor. Do we need to change our welfare system. Yes. We cant allow people to stay on welfare all of their lives and continue to have more children when they have no means of supporting them. I think that Democrats and Republicans can agree on this.
We are in a total mess in this country and the truth is, our government, Republicans and Democrats alike have failed us. Large Corporations have failed us even while they were getting their tax breaks, incentives and loopholes galore. If tax breaks created jobs, where are the jobs”? China and India? The idea that trickle down economics works is ridiculous. The idea that somehow being a Christian makes a difference is ridiculous. The Republicans who claim to run on Christian and Family Values are not putting Christians or Families first. They are supporting the 1% that created this mess by paying off our politicians. Can we really blame Large Corporations though? Or should we be blaming the politicians who have allowed themselves to be bought? I think there is enough blame for both to be found guilty. Until we get the money out of politics, nothing will get better.
