Video Reveals: UK Abortion Clinics Offer Gender-Selective Terminations

UK Abortion Clinics Get Unannounced Inspections, Undercover Operations: One in Five Found Breaking the Law

The Telegraph sent in women with hidden cameras to abortion clinics in the UK seeking abortions for female fetuses.

A swirl of controversy is surrounding abortion clinics in the UK. Several undercover and investigative operations have revealed not only that one in five clinics are breaking the law, but that some were allowing for gender-selective abortions.

The Telegraph reports Health Secretary Andrew Lansley, who ordered an investigation that included “unannounced raids” on the more than 250 clinics, was “shocked” but the number found in violation:

[...] more than 250 private and NHS clinics were visited and more than 50 were “not in compliance” with the law or regulations. Doctors were regularly falsifying consent forms and patients were not receiving acceptable levels of advice and counselling in many clinics, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) discovered.

“I was appalled,” he said. “Because if it happens, it is pretty much people engaging in a culture of both ignoring the law and trying to give themselves the right to say that although Parliament may have said this, we believe in abortion on demand.”

He said it was not just a matter of enforcing the law. “There is the risk that women don’t get the appropriate level of pre-abortion support and counselling because, if your attitude is that, ‘You’ve arrived for an abortion and you should have one,’ well actually many women don’t get the degree of support they should,” said Mr Lansley.

The largest problem identified, according to the Telegraph was “pre-signing” consent forms. These consent forms are required to be signed by the person who consulted with the patient and another professional who has reviewed the patient’s notes:

“I completely understand the law doesn’t require the doctor to have met the woman concerned, but to pre-sign certificates when you don’t even know which woman it relates to and there hasn’t been an assessment, is completely contrary to the spirit and letter of the law.”

He added that action would be taken within days. “We’re dealing with all this quickly,” Mr Lansley said. “If there is evidence of an offence we will give it directly to the police.”

The Health Secretary said pre-signing forms “constitutes a criminal offence” and could also lead to doctors being struck off by the General Medical Council.

Perhaps even more interesting is why this investigation was ordered in the first place. The Telegraph reports its exposé earlier this year of clinics conducting sex-selective abortions — where a woman would have been allowed an abortion simply because of the fetus’ gender. Gender-selective abortions are illegal in Britain.

The Telegraph sent four women undercover to different clinics this year and had them discuss with a doctor their wish to receive an abortion because they were told the fetus was female. Watch one of these videos where the doctor admits that it is “female infanticide” and says he would comply with the patient’s wish to put down a different reason on the forms:

Here’s another example where the technician says “I don’t ask questions. You want a termination, you want a termination”:

It was after the Telegraph published these stories in February, that the country’s General Medical Council began its own investigation. The Telegraph reports Lansley as saying the goal of the investigations is to determine if clinics are following the “letter and spirit of the law.”

BBC reports that investigations included clinics run by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS), Marie Stopes, the NHS and private firms. It also reports BPAS chief executive Ann Furedi as saying she was “appalled” the media was informed of the investigations results before the clinics themselves:

She said: “Abortion doctors provide an important service to women who are often in difficult circumstances.

“Their work is already intensely scrutinised, with clinics regularly inspected by the Care Quality Commission.

“Lansley says he is shocked and appalled by the practices he has uncovered.

“BPAS is shocked and appalled that Lansley has found it necessary to inform journalists of alleged breaches of the abortion law before he has informed those responsible for providing the services that have been investigated, and before the investigation is concluded.”

The Telegraph speculates that the investigations will result in heavier regulation on the clinics than previously seen.

    The UK and the US have much more in common than most people believe.

    This is old news that the Labour (Democrat) party have overlooked during PM Blair and Brown’s tenure. Current PM David Cameron (Tory/Conservative) are attempting to clean up.

    Maybe the law is stupid then–maybe women are big enough girls to decide for themselves whether or not they want to be pregnant, without anyone else other than her partner’s (if he’s still even present) input, hmmm?

This story repeats what has been known for a long time: These people believe their sacred cow is beyond the reach of the law. Hell, in their perfect world, a van comes around and picks up the targets of after-birth abortion. Maybe disguised as an ice cream truck…

    How many American daughters have the feminists callously tossed aside, in this, their “struggle” for “Women’s Rights”? How many female babies’ lives have been ended on the whim of someone that is more concerned about her own life and “rights”, than the lives and “rights” of the next generation of daughters, for whom they are supposedly fighting? Who knows how many female athletes, scientists and leaders, have been sacrificed in the name of personal freedom through abortion?
    There is One that knows them all by name. One, that I believe, sits above in judgement. These are the souls that cry out for justice. The innocent, murdered in the name of vanity and control.

      Living in a free country, doesn‘t necessarily mean that it is useful to run around acting like a petulant child that doesn’t want to take any responsibility for their actions. Or simply because they don’t want stretch marks and nausea. Just because they can do everything that they want to do with no consequences, doesn’t mean that it benefits them, or society at large, to do so.

    CHA-CHING; listen to the cash register ring! This isn’t about “women’s rights” it is about murdering innocent babies for profit. These clinics make huge profits by exploiting uneducated and and misinformed women. They are going to perform abortions for any myriad of reasons people can think of including gender. This is what happens when society de-values life!

    What world are we living in where babies are not safe with their own mothers?

    what a disgrace. I couldn’t imagine not having my son because I wanted a girl. I couldn’t imagine not holding my niece who has down syndrome. who does this? why have children if you are so cold that you murder what you deem as imperfect? I read these stories and hug my child extra tight at night counting my blessings.

      Thank you, thank you, thank you for your post. The brutal murdering of the next generation (over 50 million in the US alone) is both demographic and ethical suicide. BTW, my son just delivered their 9th baby (a 10 pound baby girl–The midwife didn’t quite make it). While the ‘world’ is committing suicide by killing their offspring, Christians should have large families and raise them up to serve the Lord.

    Sex selective abortions hmmm… this is going on in China, India, and all over the world for some time, even in the USA, because no one wants girl babys, because girls are more expensive to raise, and once mature hard to marry off. I for one would not want to be cursed as a muslim girl baby. I would only want to be a christian girl baby living in a capitalist society because thats the only way a girl baby can live free, every place else if your a girl baby your screwed from birth.

      By that argument, we should just abort any animals’ babies. All babies need time to grow and learn to take care of themselves. Sadly, some humans never do, and I believe that has to do a lot with surroundings. Our rate of growth and physical maturity happens to be longer than an animal that lives in the wild, thus the luxury of a longer span of time to learn. Its good to be the top predator.

      Though there are a lot of examples of cold blooded creatures leaving their children to hatch and fend for themselves, most mammals take care of and teach their young, for at least some amount of time.

    I’m trying to understand the logic here.. it is okay to abort if you don’t want it because you don’t want a baby. But it is not okay to abort because you don’t want a female baby? So it is okay to abort a male baby because they are considered unliving tissue, but a female baby is considered a human life? So abortion is okay as long as your reason for aborting is politically correct?

      Cavallo–When I studied Psychology it was called Schizophrenia. When a person wildly espouses one thing and then swings into another ‘crusade’ that logically contradicts what (s)he initially espoused, he is either mentally ill or a ‘liberal’. I’ve come to the conclusion that the two terms are almost always interchangeable. The liberal feigns ‘compassion’ for the woman and the unborn child by espousing ‘choice’ and then tries to defend the case that both mother and child are ‘better off’ by aborting (terminating, killing) the child. Another ‘plug’ for teaching Aristotelian logic beginning in grammar school. “‘A’ cannot be ‘A’ and non ‘A’ at the same time and in the same relationship.” A baby cannot be a baby and a non-baby (fetus) at the same time and in the same relationship. To quote that great philosopher Dr. Seuss, “A person is a person no matter how small.”

    Here’s the sad thing too. The number one baby name in the UK is “Mohammed”! They’re population of anglo British citizens is dwindlnig down and being over runned by Muslims. They don’t see the BIGGER picture. Soon, they’ll be following Sharia law, as it is already happening in small towns in the UK. Pro-CHOICE people are the doing the work for the radical Islamists, eliminating their enemy.

      As long as abortion is available to all no matter what reason they have in seeking it out, we don’t have to worry about eugenics. Since those seeking them are by definition even stupider than the dumbest person you know who has never conceived a baby when they didn’t want to, they are culling their own offspring entirely on the basis of their own lack of intelligence, which whatever the root cause of that stupidity, whether congenital or entirely environmental, is entirely a good thing for all of us, including any later offspring that they may have when they are older wiser and more prepared for their responsibilities.
