Revealed: The Anti-Christian, Anti-Capitalist Messages of Urban Outfitters’ Supplier, Obey Clothing

If you’re a parent out on a clothing binge, you might want to beware – even clothing stores may have an agenda. Specifically, a brand known as “Obey Clothing,” which stocks Urban Outfitters, among other department stores, has been marketing increasingly aggressive looking products to teens, which include items like the following set of stickers:

Obey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican MessagesIf the Soviet reminiscent art style looks familiar, it should – Obey Clothing is the brainchild of Shepard Fairey, the man responsible for the tongue-in-cheek “OBEY” poster featuring Andre the Giant. Oh, and this gem:

Obey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican Messages

And that’s not all Fairey is responsible for. Featured on the website for his clothing line is a section titled, ironically, “Propaganda.” It includes such ‘hopeful images’ as the following:

Obey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican Messages

And to top it off, here’s Fairey himself proudly posing in front of one of these compositions:

Obey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican MessagesThe same style of iconography appears, albeit in a far more muted way, on the products sold by Obey, almost all of which contain some sort of anti-establishment implication – sometimes even verging into vulgarity or anti-Christian symbolism. Consider the following:

Obey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican MessagesObey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican MessagesObey Clothing, Owned By Artist Behind Obama Hope Poster, Sells Anti Christian, Anti Capitalist, Anti Republican MessagesAnd just to repeat – these are not produced by some cut rate art house fashion outlet. The company that makes these gets stocked at Urban Outfitters and Nordstroms, among others. In fact, one of Urban Outfitters’ designers works closely with Obey Clothing:

Men‘s designer Mike Temosky is one of the main guys responsible for translating Shepard Fairey’s vision to Obey. But that’s just one of the many things he does.

The daughter of a Blaze reader was disturbed to find this label while shopping at Urban Outfitters:

The latest in a long line of morally bankrupt entrepreneurs eager to cash in on the young rebels out there who feel a need to wear their political views for all to see. It’s one of those things we have to tolerate in a society based on free enterprise. The sad part is that these days there is absolutely no sense of propriety and decency in the marketplace. Like any other product that offends us in any way, we have a right to boycott the company and speak out against them in many ways. I wish this guy’s business a quick demise, but there is probably a disappointingly large number of youth who will line up to buy his garbage.

He looks like a typical anti establishment liberal, who was born with a silver spoon in his ugly face, and now, being the elite that he is, he concerns himself with indoctrinating the middle class and poor to think like him, after all, liberals always feel the poor or conservatives are ignorant, and have to be taken by the hand, inorder to see the light. He looks like your typical psychotic liberal. Born in a 1% family, and now making a 1% income, riding on the coat tails of capitalism, and yet dispising it. Another Michael Moor in the making.

“What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?” That’s a quote is generally attributed to Plato, but there are many remarks of the same kind from other Greek authors (that’s 2000 yeara ago folks).

Friends, lend me your ears. First, teenagers are no different than they were 2000 years ago. They rebel, that’s the nature of the human species and probably is the cause of most advancements in the world (if you believe there have been any). Second, this is the United States of America and we are capitalists. If there’s a buck to be made, somebody is going to make it. Please don’t tell me you are a Communist.

Chill out. Every generation thinks the next generation is awful, and they have throughout recorded history.

The world has problems alright. But don’t blame the young.

      JZSaul,

I don’t blame the young as a whole, just the young that lean left, along with the middle aged, and the old that lean left.

      Or is that “Lean Forward”

Just about every major problem this country faces can be traced directly back to liberals. And that includes Rino’s.

There is a market for this kinda thing because those who would wear it are produced solely by your local school district and local college/university. Kids heads are so full of activism these days its amazing to see. Most of the things they believe they are championing are battles long ago fought and won such as equal rights, womens rights, work place rights and so on. With socialism its never enough, you never quite arrive at your final destination as you think you would, the next generation picks up the torch and its onward now towards totalitarianism as the last best hope to press man into the mold they have created. Its shear madness in the end. We are looking at the last best years of the USA folks. Enjoy it and revel in it for now because four more years of BHO will seal the deal forever for this country and this generation.

So incredibly sad for these kids, they really don‘t know what they’re doing. They are the useful idiots of our time and probably won’t realize it until they age a bit and have nothing to show for their lives. Years and decades during the prime years will pass by them and they won’t know where it went.
Really pathetic fools. My wife just let me now that Nordstroms and Urban Outfitters is now on her ‘no shopping list’. She says she won’t EVER step foot in them again.

JZS, you actually make a viable argument this time. But let’s not forget to point out the deeper issue. Don’t ignore the fact that the kids are up against 100 years plus of progressive history rewrites and omissions. At least when I graduated high school, I knew who the vice president was, knew what and why about the Iron Curtain, had a rudimentary understanding of government and economics, and was able to wear my Uncle Sam “Kill a Commie for your mommy” shirt without offending the faculty. Now, the kids come come out flat stupid thinking they should be entitled to everything. Take an honest look at who’s been running the public school systems.  And let’s not forget those younger ones singing praises to Obama – Hmmmm… where else did that happen, singing praises to their dear leader? Oh yes, N Korea and Nazi Germany.

As far as you not understanding the irony there I don’t know if this will help because it seems so obvious, but I’ll do my best to explain it for you. The reason it’s ironic to have a section on his site named “propaganda” is because the entire site is filled with propaganda. It‘s as if you visited the kkk’s site and they had a section labeled “hate speech”. I hope that clears it up…if not then check your voter registration and make sure that it doesn’t say democrat.

Nice try but this is also a case where we let the free market decide. If there is a market for these clothes the company and the marketing pitch will survive. If not they won’t it is that simple in a free society which supports free markets. As far as morally bankrupt, let’s start with the companies pooring millions of gallons of chemical tainted water into the ground, knowing polluting ground water and drinking water supplies for increasingly larger numbers of people. Or perhaps BP, Haliburton and Transocean who lobbied to have the blow out preventer removed from the US off shore oil drilling requirements. A device which is required every where else in the world.

However, you fail to notice that each trip around the cone the marble travels is lower then the previous. Each generation is in rebellion, but each generation also get’s “lower” or more degressive in that rebellion. It is slow and unrelenting so as not to alarm. Just as “The Right of Billy” eyes changed …. how many notice … I missed it

A Monk, maybe. Maybe God really does want us to hate most everybody in the world, especially Muslims. Maybe God does love guns. Maybe God does think the proper role of a country, as a country, is to divert the resources of the country to the wealthy few, and give the rich every advantage while letting the poor starve or die from lack of medical care.

You could be right about that, but I’ll take my chances.

“There is a market for it because of our lax educational system and the shameless lies and propaganda that permeate our culture these days.”

The reason for the existence of the market is irrelevant. The point is that Obey is not responsible for creating the market, only for exploiting it. As a capitalist, one should not fault them for that.

“The reason it’s ironic to have a section on his site named “propaganda” is because the entire site is filled with propaganda.”

That isn’t irony. Irony is when something implies the direct opposite of its usual meaning. As TexasBeta said -

“It isn’t ironic, it is implicit. It is as if you walk up to a door that is labelled “bathroom”, and wow…inside, there is a bathroom. Moron.”

Just exactly how much wealth does this country have to spread around?

An exact dollar amount please, so we can try to work out a formula for equitable distribution. Exactly how much is out there for us to divvy up?

He did HORRIBLY. In addition, the economic crisis (the biggest problem we have currently) is not a result of the liberal agenda you like to detest so much. It is because of the big banks and the housing industry. The liberals are not the only ones to blame. It is EVERYBODY in washington. Everybody is messing up and the policies in place are sloppy, instated by Republicans and Democrats alike. Don’t push the blame on the opposing party, take responsibility for it together. JohnJ – We have stumbled upon another issue…one that I find on this website quite often. See sir, you don’t have to doubt a statement like Urban Outfitters financially supports Republicans. You can simply look up their campaign contributions, who owns it, and then check their campaign contributions.
Stop being so lazy…you conservatives really don’t put forth much effort ya know.

( notice they have replaced the raised fist with the raised finger. so charming ) Am sure this will be a headache for schools. Uniforms may be the only hope to retain some decency and and good taste. Who creates these nasty items – Designs by Anarchists ?

Parents or kids buying this line of clothing, that is the question. Awhile back when logo said “Just Do It” or “No Fear” whether it was a positive or negative message…Hummm…One of the t-shirts caught my eye and the upside-down cross & the word Obey. Flag etiquette = American flag upside-down, distress. Hummm

Why bother with this, you no longer have a right in this country to protest or choose non-association with those who promote communism/socialism/liberalism/democraps/regressives/anarchists, to do so draws a hailstorm of media condemnation and official government suppression.

What you do have the right to do is protest and discriminate against capitalism/conservatism/Christianity/libertarianism/free markets, do that and you draw media praise, admiration, and support; as well as official governmental aid, perhaps even funding.

I actually don‘t read the ’agendist’ messages contained in the clothing. Its young kids wearing them and if this guy can market it to them, more power to him.. The kids are too naive to see that by buying this merchandise, they’re actually going 100% against the message. If the message is Anti-capitalism, they’re making this guy another cool couple of million bucks. As PT Barnum used to say, there’s a sucker born every minute. Truer words were never spoken. Ask Wall Street…the biggest huckster of all. If the GOP was cool at the moment, no doubt we‘d be seeing conservative shirts with Reagan’s image on them.

How is it there are so many “icky” things out there?

Who is buying enough of it to keep the companies (and hollywood for that matter) afloat?

It would seem, if the stats are true, since only around 20-25% of the population are leftists and a lot of those leftists are unemployed, collegiates mired in student debt (OWS crowd), it would seem to suggest that there are a lot of conservatives funding such things too.

      I find this possibility disheartening

Well young Mr. Fairey, who do you think makes these purchases? Thank you Blaze for showing yet two more stores, their advertisers’ that won‘t be getting my family’s business. You private industry folks still don’t understand that you can’t insult your customers’ and expect those customers’ to spend their money to be insulted. This process of elimination has been a joy. From Hollywood to New York City we’re now narrowing down those companies that are serious about their commerce. Those are the enterprises that have and will prevail throughout leaving two subjects all alone, politics and religion.

      ..Hi nzkiwi
I care! There have been a few of my posts that did not post but I don’t take it personally…I just move on & not let it ruin my day. Apparently I can be too bold & un-refreshing at times and I respect this site to let me know that I have crossed-the-line. I slap my own face, LOL, & move on. P.S. I enjoy kiwi but like avacados & kiwi and other fruits & veg are getting so expensive for my budget, I have gone to substitutes but won’t say what they are because it may be a hint for “them” to raise the prices on these items. These items are usually on the low shelves in a store as we do know, popular items..middle shelves & work-up to the top shelve.
Today here in Mt. it is raining & snowing and the robins are confused about the “popsicle-worms”!
Have a great day. Have a Blessed Good Friday & Easter. He Is Risen!
