Revolution Against TV: WSJ Profiles Success of GBTVWhen GBTV officially launched, Glenn Beck said that it was going to fundamentally transform television and the way people got their news.

“We are on the edge of something that is bigger than industrial revolution,” Beck said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “We’re taking on the big guys.”

Here we are, a little over 6 months since the launching the network, and many in the established media outlets have taken notice of GBTV’s success.

The Journal reports:

Ultimately, Mr. Beck said GBTV will become a 24/7 network, with plans to double programming this year. In January, he signed a deal with the production company Icebox —founded by writers from “The Simpsons” and “King of the Hill” —to create an animated comedy series. He also is readying a documentary about Occupy Wall Street.

On Fox News, Mr. Beck averaged 2.2 million daily viewers and was paid $2.5 million a year. GBTV, which jumped on the scene in September, is expected to bring in at least $40 million in revenue this year, supported by advertising and more than 300,000 subscribers paying as much as $9.95 a month for full access to GBTV, according to a person close to the company.

While it is significantly smaller than his audience at Fox News, it’s still more than an established network like CNBC, which drew an average of 189,000 viewers over the course of the total day in February, according to Nielsen.

To turn that revenue into profit, Mr. Beck keeps costs low by using staff and equipment already in place for other parts of Mercury Radio Arts, Mr. Beck’s multimedia mini-empire, which includes best-selling books, a syndicated radio show that draws some 10 million listeners a week, public events, and Blaze, a news and opinion website. As a result, Mr. Beck’s initial investment in the network was paid off in the first two months, according to a person close to the company.

Some 120 people now work in the wider Beck kingdom, which is expected to bring in $80 million in revenue this year, according to the same person. The business is flush enough now to afford two sets—the one in New York and a second in Dallas, where the network’s headquarters is being built—the capital of Glenn Beck Inc.

“It‘s scary to go out and not take someone else’s money,” Beck said. “But I wanted to be my own man, and say, ‘Look at what we built.’”

      I was a crazy Beck fan when he was on FOX. I have lost all respect for Beck and his pitiful co-horts on the radio when they slandered Sheriff Joe Arpaio on the radio after Arpaio’s Press Conference. They acted like FOOLS showing their complete ignorance of the issues surrounding the birth certificate, the fraudulent Selective Service registration, the fraudulent SS# that was flagged by E-Verify. Glenn doesn’t have a clue about connecting dots. He runs off at the mouth about loving the Constitution yet he and his co-horts run as fast as they can from the Constitutional issue of the CENTURY. Heck, we are not even talking about Obama not being a “natural born Citizen” yet. One would think that Mr. Constitutionalist would be all over that issue, but no, he is completely unprepared to talk about it.

      Sheriff Joe Arpaio has 60 years of experience as a law enforcement officer, 30 of that as a Federal law enforcement officer. His lead investigators are retired career law enforcement officers. We are left with three choices here, is Arpaio lying, logically doubt that what would they have to gain being that they all have great reputations and unblemished records. Are they mistaken, logically doubt that with all those years of experience. They are absolutely right and that is completely logical. There is a fourth choice, Glenn Beck and his looney tune co-horts are dead wrong and acting like fools without ever examining any of athe evidence.

      Check it out. Obama sat in the church of Rev Wright for 20 years, soaking up anti Semitic messages and black liberation theology. He never worked a real job in his life outside of his community organizing. he has ties to know socialist and communists. He declared his run for the senate seat in the living room of a known terrorist. he is a student of Bill Ayers, he was raised in muslim schools. he fired the head of GM in a symbolic move to show that capitalism is now dead (read John Delorean’s book where he showed the head of GM to be as powerful as the heads of most states). Obama lowered our credit rating. he is anti America, he has plant to destroy our economy, refuses to let us get independent from middle east oil, he allowed the sodomites to enter our military. Welfare now has 46 million Americans with hand held out, and is not getting smaller…..

      You have mountains of evidence on why Obama is bad, and why he is bad for America. Why must you continue to look like a buffoon and chase this birther issues, when you have so many other non deniable truths to run with? Wake up and smell the piles of crap around you

      if Beck TV folds, I think you will find them out pounding the pavement, getting a new job. Check out the resume of the folks that work for Beck. they have records of success, and a track record of working elsewhere.

      they are differnt than your lib buddies, who generally work in academia, or they do not work at all, and stand there with hand held out, relying on the gov to take care of them.

      Even if Beck is wrong on that issue, which I am not saying he is, Beck would be the first to admit he is wrong if so proved. I have not followed it, being all the other stuff going on. I put alot of myself into what is going on in this country and the world.

      This issue on Obama’s Birth Certificate, time will tell. We have stuff coming out from Andrew B. (RIP) getting things cooking. Let’s at least use what is at hand. There are sill be enough people working on the truth of the birth certificate. Once again, time will tell. And time is needed for time to tell. Shakespeare talked of the fickleness of people in ‘Julius Ceaser’.

      Breezee- good idea for the bumper stickers… but i would be afraid to put one on in Seattle area…. it’s full of progressive “enlightened” who represent the party of tolerance, though actually not so when it comes to the temptation to key a car.       Glenn is going to set the world on fire to the great consternation of the weirdos, oddballs, flakes, misfits and kooks on the radical left.

      Glenn has always been mocked by O‘Reilly when he makes appearances on O’reilly’s show. Of course, that‘s because O’Reilly wants to move a little more to the left in order to gain acceptance by the radicals in the bigotted MSM, who he would like to be a part of. By ridiculing Glenn, O’Reilly thinks, is necessary to distance himself from those on the right.

      But I think he finally sees a movement underway and the beginning of a communications powerhouse in the making with GBTV, because he kept saying, during Glenn’s most recent appearance on the Factor that “I’m not ridiculing you,” and he changed his demeanor.

      Good for Glenn. He works hard and deserves to be the creator of an American success story.

      I believe Sheriff Arpario is a just man of character and do feel that his investigation does have merit,
      But just because GB disagrees with him (and me) on this subject, does not make GB

      I was a subscriber to GBTV, and though i did cancel it due to his bashing of Paul I still respect Glenn and hope GBTV does well. If it comes down to trust, I trust Glenn, more than any other news outlet even though I don’t agree with everything he says. I would subscribe again, and probably will in the future if I can ever find the extra money.

      If government red tape didn’t hold me back I would have plenty of money….And so would others….

For years I listened to Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, Foxnews, and a few others on the talk radio / TV right telling us “the sky is falling,” socialism is coming, the muslims are out to get us (wrong group my friends…here’s a hint, the group you should be fighting rhymes with screw), sorry guys I can’t stand around waiting for the sky to fall, I‘ve moved on with my life and away from the propaganda from GB’s, Rush, S Hannity, O’Reillys, and all the other knuckleheads fighting of all things, birth control???       Glenn continuously says they have to “verify the facts” before putting them out there. While I think Sheriff Joe is onto something (I have been a fan of his for years), I also understand that it may not be possible for Glenn to “verify the facts” in that story. I am also a GBTV subscriber and I wish Glenn and his entire staff the best for the future. I wonder how many jobs Bill Maher and Chris Matthews have created for single moms, or how many wounded soldiers they have helped, or how many people they have educated about THE REAL history of the United States. My guess would be NONE!

      @ms-glennbc…you will not hear Harry Reid here as Mormons do not speak ill of other Mormons. Reid is the exception. Never watched Beck (refuse to pay for cable or satellite) and rarely catch him on the radio anymore (Milwaukee has far better programming on WISN). Glenn is a pioneer and visionary, but I got a little burned out on the doom and gloom/up with laughter peaks and troughs associated with bipolar manic depressive types.

      RonmeyPaulBotsrOdd: If Mormons are “off limits” for Glenn and gang, then why is he so critical of Romney? Personally, I don‘t think one’s religion is what’s important to Glenn and gang. As I’ve heard him say repeatedly, what‘s important to him is a person’s character.

      I think it was Ben Franklin (?) who said, “Worry not about your reputation for that‘s only what other’s think of you. Instead, worry about your character for that’s what you think of yourself.”

      I don’t always agree with Glenn and gang, but I certainly do respect their right to their opinions, and I wholeheartedly support GBTV, The Blaze, and all of the other Glenn Beck entities as an alternative to the mindless cr@p one hears on the mainstream media. On that basis, I wish Glenn and gang all the success (and, yes, PROFIT) in the world!

      I‘m not a subscriber to GBTV but only because I’m currently unemployed and, for various reasons, I’m not eligible for government handouts. So, I’m living off of my rapidly-dwindling savings and putting food on the table and outrageously-priced gas in the car take priority right now.

      That’s my $0.02 worth. Agree or disagree as you wish!

      Randolf Hearst, Rupert Murdoch et al all had to start somewhere….with GBTV set to gross 80 million in it’s first year not only has the old guard sitiing up and taking notice they will likely begin to emulate the “model”. GBTV is in track to double it’s viewership in the next year in my opinion and it depends on two critical factors to grow into a media empire…Remain true to the original vision, never deviate, never compromise AND Beck has to remain even keeled with his assessments for if he gets too carried away with day to day minutae it’ll drive him and everyone else close to him, nuts. The gloom and doom factor of the GB FNC show took a visiable toll on both Mr Beck and his loyal viewers (myself included). That being said GBTV should continue to deliver what they do best and leave the hyperbole/whitewashing to the left/progressives/Democarts. Keep doling out the facts and keep your heads up, powder dry.

      This “model” is about to spawn a revolution in news delivery and it’s content…unfort5unately this same model can be used by the likes of Soros/Democartic Party/Leftists etc as a propaganda tool. The way the old news media was set up (a veritable monopoly on opinion) is a tough habit to break for those firmly entrenched in the “idea” that liberals have a “monopoly” on truth and anyone else else saying otherwise is plain wrong, or out of thier mind.       I am a GBTV subscriber passionate with the news anybody is publishing in such trustful way. Glenn is a good guy. Sometimes I hope he sleeps a little more.       It should come as NO surprise to you that we’re locked into a spiritual battle for the hearts and souls of America and Americans. Glenn Beck has his field of battle in this warfare and Sheriff Joe has his, as do all the rest of us.       I DO READ and SEARCH OUT other news, including HuffPo! In a war (for our Freedom), it is important to “know thine enemy.” It’s also very interesting to try to figure out their next step by their current steps and what they are saying (that often has two meanings).

      Each of us have a sphere we operate within, some with children, some fellow workers, some neighbors, some within our faith community. We need to be able to educate those around us who don’t buy-in to conservative thought at this time. To do so we need to be aware of what is being discussed and from what angle.

      Watch and listen to GBTV, but at the same time educate yourself at least in your area of expertise. You can then be “the Key”!

      Remember, a person strong in their area of information (i.e., faith, business, thought), will not be swayed while learning about how someone else thinks, and can act as a “translator” between various positions.

      I get all my news from sources not associated with the Main Stream Media. Maybe some local news on T.V. but they still are controlled on the national issues. It borders on ridiculous when the MSM does not cover or mention breaking news that isn’t in their controlled agenda.
      Fact checking, as Glenn says must be done on all sources of news. Sort out the lies from the truth.

      Yay, two typos in the first three paragraphs! Do you Blaze writers ever run a spell check or proofread your own work?

      You also said many established media outlets have noticed GBTV’s success but then only cited one article.

      Apparently editing and consistency within your articles is not a priority. But, that’s ok, your readers won’t know the difference since they see Glenn Beck as God.

      I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning. I really used to enjoy watching the video feed of the radio program and watching the television show. Now that I have moved to a remote country location my only source of internet is satellite and it is way to slow for the video so I get the radio audio only. I still pay my $10 a month because I believe that the US and the world needs conservative voices and this is my small way to support one.

      Glen pleeeeeease offer a low rez video feed for us non city living/high speed internet starved subscribers.

    I love my GBTV, and that is the only news that I now watch. Mr. Beck is an excellent business man, and I am so glad to be a part of this network. I hope they grow bigger and better every year!!

    I gave up cable TV, and do not even have a GBTV subscription. It’s been refreshing to read a book, scour the news websites I choose selecting the stories I’m interested in. Not being fed someone elses view o f the world and how it should be. Glad that there is an alternative to MSM/Progessive news.

      Cable TV is responsible for the disconnect it used to be you got the news between 5 and 7 whether you liked it or not but you at least got some news of what was going on in the world. Now days you have cable channels and you tune in and not a speck of news if you wish leaving you ignorant of what is important and will effect your lives. Take voting people actually vote while not even watching the news or being informed total disconnect from decisions that will effect their and others lives. Hollywood and the news are guilty of not covering things like what really happens when you break the law or get shot show the reality and consequences of actions and stop glorifying it. Reality and truth is all that needs to be said. GBTV gives you that.

    The WSJ links are broken. I bought a Roku box to get GBTV. amd it has paid off well. It’s the only news we watch and we can watch it anytime.

You tried to make a point that it’s stupid to get news from one source, I agree to a certain extent. Here is the difference my friend, we all are encouraged to find the truth for ourselves by looking at original sources. The “Lame stream” media editorializes and tells its audience what they should think. After reading the story on the Daily Caller about how Media Matters writes the script for the “Lame stream” media and intimidates opposing views advertisers; anyone paying attention knows where the LIES come from. Now go back to being a SOROS TROLL and watch how Americans can pull together and not divide.

    I bought a ROKU just to watch Glenn Beck but, I can certainly see a day when you pay a monthly fee for only the channels you want and goodbye paying for MSNBC and Current TV etc. I can even see paying per program. Everybody gets what they want, when they want it. Every sports team could even have their own channel if the leagues would get on board.

      It certainly beats $94.02 p month to DIRECTV for the past 16 years because I cannot get cable.
      ROKU with an HD antenna for local channels. DONE

      ABSOLUTELY !!! a one time payment of approx $50 bucks it is a much better deal than the $18 per month I pay for a HD receiver from DIRECTV.

      Wait no longer. Get it today, There is a ton of ROKU support on the net to get set up.

      Reference the ROKU thing…I haven’t subscribed to GBTV because I live out in the county. All I can get is DHL – it’s not as slow as dial up, but videos are still difficult to download. Would a ROKU work where I am, does anyone know?

      Lots of free stuff and a lot of pay by the month stuff as well. If it wasn’t for DirecTVs NFL package and limited FNC access on ROKU, I would do away with the satelite. All that stuff is coming though. It may take 5 years but, eventually I bet everything I want will be available on there. They already have a ROKU NHL and NBA package. ROKU is not the only option either. There are more and more options for internet based programming coming out. ROKU is cheap though so, if something better comes along, I won’t feel bad about ditching the ROKU.

      SpeckledPup lol Glenn predicted the fall of the US economy? Not Glenn…Peter Schiff, and Ron Paul did. Just as Ron Paul started this whole ‘smaller Constitutional limited government’ thing. Glenn is just riding on the coat tails.

      Beck is only telling you half and partial truths on many things. Better start researching what he‘s telln’ ya.
