‘Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ Author: I’m Preparing for Economic Collapse

“Rich Dad, Poor Dad” author Robert Kyosaki is not convinced that the worst days of the recession are behind us. Whether it’s financial markets and big business going under, war, natural disaster or government crisis, the financial adviser and motivational speaker suspects hard times could be ahead in the coming decade.
“There are two possible extremes, or financial concerns. We can either go into a depression, or we can go to hyperinflation,” says Mr. Kyosaki in a recent web video. “Or we could also go to war which is one way people think we could solve the problem:”
Mr. Kyosaki suggests investing in precious metals, buying a gun and storing food, in a cautious “rather be safe than sorry” mindset.
“Remember this, the police cannot prevent a crime, only you can do that,” he adds. “They can only investigate it after you’re dead.”
He also suggests investing wisely and organizing your fiscal house. For example, he cautions that if the credit card systems shut down, the world shuts down.
“If I’m preparing for the worst, there is a good chance it won’t happen.”
Mr. Kyosaki is best known for authoring the “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” series and has sold over 26 million books. He has previously spoken in regards to what he calls “the conspiracy of the rich,” and the new rules of money.

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 1:09pmBig thing is being prepared to go without electricity. Don’t freeze food, no refrigeration, no electric stoves, natural gas will soon fail due to pumping station outages, no water for the same reason, there will be no phones little radio, no TV, no air conditioning, no heat, no internet. Gas generators are at best stop gap till you run out of fuel. Solar panels make very little power and only work during daylight.
Think about it.

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 1:52pmInitially gas generators are probably good but … what about when no gas is left? Or worse yet, what about when some roving band of thugs hear your gas generator running and you become a target? Or, that roving band see your lights in your home from afar?
Solar is the only way to go for electricity needs and then only to run extremely important items like a refrigerator/freezer. You can get a decent solar generator (not that thing advertised on beck’s program) for around $3K that is large enough to actually run your refrigerator AND it’s more or less portable.
If you get solar, and this does happen, just be sure to cover your windows solidly so no light escapes during night alerting the thieves of your existance.

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 2:15pmDepends on what you are trying to run and how much fuel you have on hand. For me I want something that can run a pump for a reverse osmosis water filtration system. Large loads like air conditioners, heaters or electric stoves are simply not practical to run on a generator due to the limited amount of stored fuel on hand. The best system is a solar array & large battery bank paired with a slow turning diesel generator. The generator only recharges the battery bank when needed thus saving loads of fuel.
As for generators, stick with 1800rpm diesel that are water cooled. They are better at fuel consumption (.24 gal / hr @ 1/2 load for a 5.5kw diesel genset VS .55gal / hr @ 1/2 load for a 5.5kw gas genset. At least with a diesel genset as a last resort you can run PVO or used filtered cooking oil for fuel and being water cooled it will hold up on hot summer days.

The generator is nice and I would agree with your assessment, but we‘re talking emergency survival here where one doesn’t need to run that much other than a few convenience items. A couple CFL bulbs (or LED bulbs if you can find good ones would be even better), a small refrigerator/freezer, and if you live in the country, a 110VAC well pump to give yourselves running water. A small solar generator will handle that (2 or 3 good panels with a 4 battery storage system) would work in most parts of the US. The beauty of this sort of system is you can toss (well, not toss, but you know what I mean) it into the back of a station wagon or pickup truck and take it with you if you have to bug out.
In my mind, at least, it’s one of the best $3-4 K investments that can be made as an insurance policy. We can live fine without lights, but it’s a lot harder to live without running water and even harder yet to live without refrigeration. Yes, they used to for all of known time until recently, but we’ve lost those skills and it would be a very tough thing to do for most people today. (I am stuck on solar only because gas/diesel will become very hard to acquire and the noise of those running generators will attract people you’d probably be better off not attracting).

I agree with you. I only mentioned the generators because of the previous post. I did state the most ideal system would be a solar array & battery bank with a standby generator to charge the batteries in the event of bad weather or high load. The generator would simply be for peace of mind.
Have to agree with you about water vs lights & air conditioning! A Reverse osmosis high pressure pump is more than capable of running on a cheap solar system to give you vast quantites of water.

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 4:09pmGuns scare me but I am shopping around for a shotgun to use for self-protection. The rioting in the Mideast and the mobs in the U.S. cities has convinced me the world is going crazy. A breakdown in the food and gasoline distribution systems will cause a general panic. The U.S. has little excess capacity in the event of an emegency such as a nuclear accident, a dirty bomb, a major earthquake or millions of Mexicans fleeing north in the event of a food shortage or a contagion.
My suggestion for the survivalists is to also get some durable cold weather clothing and have bicycles and carts for transportation. Have tents, sleeping bags and other camping supplies in the event there is no electricity or heating full. After a few weeks, the military and para-military will establish feeding centers in the FEMA camps, stadiums, barbwire enclosures, etc.
If there is a collapse in the global debt markets, there will either be no money or worthless money. It will take months to get the Amero and a global exchange currency in general use. Greece should collapse this summer and provide an example of what could happen on a global scale.

Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
Report Post »And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” ~Jesus

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 1:20pmTotally true.. however; we are also to be as wise as serpants; but as harmless as doves. Remember Joseph. Sold into slavery only to rise to second only to Pharoah. God warned of 7 fat years followed by 7 lean years. Joseph prepared because he had faith; not because he had no faith. Also consider to parable of the talents.. action by the sevants was praised by the Master. Inaction; the one who buried his talent and did nothing; was condemned. God gives each of us brains and influence; the ability to make decisions. If we choose to not to make one or consider the obvious when it is in our face; how are we being faithful stewards ? I choose to prepare because God has given me eyes to see and ears that hear; nothing is really under our control; but being willingly unprepared in my opinion, is not faith. It is tempting the Lord your God and is forbidden.

I never said we aren’t to work hard for what we get, nor do I expect someone else to take care of me. I just happen to think that, if you are a believer, this is not the time to “close up shop” on our calling to do the work that advances our Father’s kingdom so that we can amass a stockpile of food and ammunition to protect ourselves against an event or situation that may or may not ever come. Jesus warned about being preoccupied with the worries of life, and how it can actually be a tool to keep us distracted from what the good Lord really has for us to do… and, I’m not judging anyone here… I’m just giving my 2 cents.

Man what does it take to get through to you???
You have already been told about Joseph and the warning of the coming famine.
Noah was told to build an ark, why didn’t he just sit around, God will take care of him?
Do you have a job?
Quit, don’t worry about tomorrow.
You’re not really trusting God if you work are you?
What Jesus is saying is “don’t worry!”
Jesus did not say “don’t do anything.”
Proverbs 22:3 A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
I hope you wake up before it’s too late.
And I too am a believer, and I believe God has shown me and others what is coming so we could prepare!

Yes, I work hard at the job the Lord has so graciously provided me, and I thank Him for His blessings… and I am to honor Him by giving the firstfruits of my bounty. Yes, I take my family to a doctor when they are ill. These things have been provided to me by God, but it requires action on my part to receive the blessings… I understand.
What I don‘t feel God calling me to do is store up a year’s supply of food or more (has anybody talked about the fact of that being an historical tradition of the Mormon religion anyway… nothing against Mormons, but a Mormon I am not) out of a spirit of fear of a calamity that may or may not occur. Yes, I have a hurricane kit because I live on the Gulf coast, but I believe that event is far more likely to happen with a far greater survival rate. What you guys are suggesting is coming? Game over… all the preparation in the world won’t amount to squat if we have this complete collapse of society for which Beck and others are planning. Until God calls me away from what He has me doing now to prepare for a famine, as He did with Joseph, I‘m going to follow Jesus’ command to love Him with all my heart and love my fellow man as myself. This is what I said weeks ago regarding the police’ union billboard in San Francisco.
The billboard has a picture of a boy and a caption asking, “who will protect me?”
Then and now, I say, police CANNOT protect you. They can only investigate a crime after it occurs.
YOU have to protect yourself. This is part of why we have the right to keep and bear arms.
Who will protect the boy? Well, I hope HIS PARENTS will protect him! Short of having 1/2 of the population be police and protect 1:1 the other 1/2 of us, it is impossible for police to protect us.
Actually, it would require 5/6 of us to protect the other 1/6 due to three 8 hour shifts.
Actually, it would require 37/42 to protect the other 5/42 of us due to 5 day workweeks.
Actually, it would require… due to vacations
Can you IMAGINE the cost of PROTECTING us?
PROTECT YOURSELVES!

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 1:32pmThe claim that police are there to protect you is false. The police have no duty to protect. If they did, they would be partly at fault for crime. This has been proven in court. The duty of the police is to deter crime by investigating and arresting those who are criminals. The justice system finishes the job by punishing criminals. Without the police and justice system, crime would be an economically feasible way to make a living. Self protection is everybody’s duty. Being squeamish about guns provides no protection against those who would impose their will upon you. If you are squeamish about guns, all the more reason to get yourself to the range.

The biggest problem I have is trying to convince my friends who see the world through rose-colored glasses to do the same. They just don’t get it and frankly I am tired of telling the same people the same thing about preparation. It’s not so much that the world will end blah blah blah, but more along the mindset of better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it!
Those who procrastinate will reap the repercussions of their decision if SHTF. Those who think the police will be sitting around waiting for your call for help are going to be greatly disappointed as well. Many of my friends, who are cops, have already said the general consensus around the station is that they will be home taking care of their families, which makes those who again rely upon government instead of taking responsibility for themselves, SOL.

When you look at the big picture on the food supply (floods in ND, storms across MO, KS drought in AZ, NM, TX; flooded Mississippi where we saved towns and destroyed food crops, EU throwing out produce, floods and drought in Australia and then CA and Japan) it it only logical that food is going to be more difficult. But, if we can already see this, we just need to prepare, and help others and we will get through it.

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 12:21pmThere a short story that can answer your question: There was a man whose farm was located on the banks of a flood-swollen river. As the water rose, a neighbor drove up in a Jeep, urging him to leave before the farm was flooded.
“Oh, no,” said the man confidently, “God will save me.”
The water rose higher, and the man was forced to move into the second story of the farmhouse. A police boat soon came, and the officers called for the man to hurry and get into their boat.
“Oh, no, that won’t be necessary,” the man insisted. “God will save me.”
Finally the house was completely engulfed in water, and a Coast Guard helicopter swooped in to rescue the man, now perched on the roof. Again he refused. Just then, a huge wave of water swept over the house, and the man drowned.
When he got to heaven, he stormed at the Lord, asking WHY God had let him die when his faith had been so strong.
“What do you mean?” asked the heavenly Father. “I sent a Jeep, a boat, and a helicopter … and you wouldn’t budge!”
God give us everything we need… sometimes it is a Gun.

If the WORLD collapses it is outrageous to think you will not need to protect yourself unless you expect the gvmt to SAVE you. Some fights lasted so long that Moses could no long keep his arms raised (read the story for this to make sense) he had to have a man on each side to hold up his arms in order for them to prevail and win and trust me, God was there with them the entire time.
Unfortunately, in WW2 people knew something was coming but unsure what and when lots of jews had a chances to escape prior to being loaded onto trains but they refuse to believe it could happen to them in their own towns.

But, if you go back to the stories of the early Christian missionaries who went to countries where there was famine, they could not get the people to understand or convert. This is because their bellies were empty. No one can listen for the promptings of the Lord when all they can hear is the rumblings of their tummy. Right now my family is in a tight spot. However, we have a little set aside and I know that I have something to put into my children’s bellies. Because I have that assurance I can consentrate on the promptings of the Spirit. If we did not have storage… nothing could get to my mind and heart except the need for food.

Did Jesus Christ carry a sword to defend Himself and His family? Did Jesus Christ make sure to carry extra food and water in His journeys to make sure He and His disciples physical needs were met?
No. Jesus actually taught His followers to not concern themselves with the future, but to concern themselves with the present. Why? Because what you do in the present effects the outcome of the future. You can either spend an entire day working on changing the problems that plague you in the present, or you can spend the entire day in worry about future events that may, or may not, come to pass and do nothing to fix the problems that lay at your own feet.
Buying guns, stocking up on ammo and food supplies will NOT protect a country of people whose currency is worthless on the world market. How are guns going to stop a Chinese, Russian, or even Mexican invasion of the United States? If the U.S. dollar is worthless, how does the United States government purchase or manufacture arms to defend it’s borders?
Quit worrying about tomorrow and do EVERYTHING you can to make a difference TODAY. Call Senators and Representatives and BOLDLY educate EVERYONE you come in contact with to do the same. United, we can change the future, divided we will repeat the past.

But I hear that malnutrition, infection and disease is not such a pleasant way to go. Of course a roving band of looters might kill you quickly. Then again they might torture you for fun for a while too. Be conservative. Take your life into your own hands!
I have a ceramic filter system for water purification. It‘s sweet and it’s cheap. A church/aid group used it in Haiti to purify water from a severely contaminated pond (you can imagine…) and create perfectly potable water. The company is ‘Monolithic’. Here’s the link:. http://shop.monolithic.com/products/just-water-ceramic-drip-filter Among other things, these guys in Texas make concrete dome homes. But the water filter is cheap and very effective. Get the whole bucket system with the pressurizer if you can and don’t modify it because you can introduce contaminated water into pure if you are not careful. I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just love their simple, effective system. I also got a bunch of 6 gallon water jugs and a 12V water pump to connect to my truck battery to pump water from a lake near my house.

1. Gun and lots and lots of ammo because ammo would become currency and its cheap when things are normal but greatly more valuable in an emergency of any kind.
2. Silver coins. Quarters, dimes will be worth much more in an emergency
3. Toilet paper – yes toilet paper = lots and lots of toilet paper to trade for food, fuel.whatever
4. $60 worth of canned and dry food.
5. 4 or 5 empty 5 gallon water jugs or bucketsto fill last minute of power or rain.
If you can afford it get a 5kw generator for about $600 and keep 20 gallons of gas at the house.
A couple of 50ft extension cords and splitters
I’m sure many other can add to the list and it depends on your budget. many don‘t like the gun but it is essential for your family’s safety. Lock it up – put the ammo away from it – you cannot do this without a gun

Posted on June 29, 2011 at 1:28pmDave Ramsey is right about gold and silver.
Gold and silver have NO intrinsic value at all. They’re just metals. Just try to eat a gold coin or a silver fork.
The only far-fetched reason to invest in these metals is in the hopes that, after a currency collapse, these metals will still retain their inflated value. Then, with whatever new currency eventually replaces the old, one could sell the gold and silver and maintain some form of wealth. Its highly speculative, depends on too many unforeseeable factors and, thus, borders on foolish. Good rule of thumb: if G. Gordon Liddy thinks its a wise thing to do then it probably isn’t.
Commodities is where you should invest and stockpile. If the markets do crash and all money is rendered worthless, the ones with the can-goods, water, gasoline, baby formula, booze/wine, tobacco, medicines and guns & ammo etc will have a great deal of position and power.
It ought to be interesting….

What a paradise it is naturally here and could be politically too if people just used a little bit of common sense. I love the forests, lakes and mountains of my native California but the majority of people here are detached from reality.
Why is it that a little sustained affluence drives people insane? We’ve got such a sweet thing here. All we had to do was take care of it. But noooo, California has to tax, spend and regulate business into bankruptcy and hound the individual with intrusive big brother government. Thus people, money and business (when they’re not failing) are hemorrhaging out of the state like a cut artery… Government is becoming desperate. I got a speeding ticket the other day and there were 6 superfluous charges tacked onto it- doubling the amount. The idiots are going to lose their jobs anyway.
Here everything just keeps getting stranger and stupider and more insane by the day. The economy is collapsing but total collapse may be the best solution. Well I’ve got my year or two of food, guns and other survival tools and skills. The soft, senseless Liberals can’t survive a deep collapse. It’s coming. Some days I pray for it. We’re well overdue for a serious culling

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 9:19pmWhat happens when the urban black mobs mount their stolen pickup trucks and start heading out to the suburbs looking for money, food, sex and guns. The police refuse to protect us now, what do you think the cops will do in a racial emergency? How many of you Racial Guilt people will have the guts to pull triggers on black attackers?
Has you TEA started boiling yet?

Posted on June 30, 2011 at 9:24pmWe can’t just sit in our living rooms waiting to be attacked by urban mobs. We must be prepared to retaliate and more against the urban centers to pin down the mobs. If they dare begin to move out of the cities towards the suburbs we sack the ghettos. Lets be prepared to counter attack if necessary. The cops will side with the urban mob so forget about them.

Posted on July 1, 2011 at 1:40amYes, God does help those who help themselves. I can tell you that from experience. Why the hell do you think God have you arms, legs and a brain to operate them with? God is revealed in the process and everywhere else for that matter but mostly in the process. Don’t let God down and he will return the favor.
There is a time for every purpose under heaven. Don’t close up shop. Just get your @ss ready to fight and survive to love another day. Of course you can always deny the obvious and die along with all of the deluded. If that’s what you choose, then that’s God’s plan for you. My neighbor knows what is coming and he is a very devout man. But he has chosen to lie down and “put his life in God’s hands”. We are all already in God’s hands. We are animated by God. That doesn’t mean we have to lay down and die with the rest of the lost. There’s also a time to fight. Besides every day seemingly, now is a great time to fight to live. God loves those who fight the good fight too! God’s love is not all lovey-dovey. Love can be terrible to behold as well.
Doc_Slamin: Jesus did not need a weapon, he is the right hand of God. We do not enjoy that same advantage. Presently it is the time to prepare for disaster. Guns, if wielded correctly will protect individuals and individuals make up a country. So guns can protect a people who have no economic weapons or defense. The foolish and weak will be purged and the strong will survive to build a better America.
