Texas Gov. Rick Perry Announces Bid for President

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Texas Gov. Rick Perry joined the 2012 GOP race for president Saturday with an announcement sure to reverberate halfway across the country as his rivals competed in Iowa for the support of party activists.
“I full well believe I’m going to win,” Perry told South Carolina voters on a conference call about an hour before he planned to kick off the campaign with a speech in Charleston.
In a posting on his new campaign website explaining why he wanted to take on President Barack Obama, Perry contended that “America’s place in the world is in peril, not only because of disastrous economic policies, but from the incoherent muddle known as our foreign policy.”
Americans, he said, “will not sit back and accept our current misery.“ He said ”a great country requires a better direction“ and ”a renewed nation requires a new president.”
He said people object to an administration “that sees its role as spending our children’s inheritance on failed economic theories that have given us record debt and left far too many unemployed, threatening not only our economy, but our security. Our reliance on foreign creditors and sources of energy not only compromises our national sovereignty, but jeopardizes our national future.”
His campaign intends to take back the country “from the grips of central planners who would control our health care, spend our treasure and micromanage our businesses.”
Perry’s speech was set for 1 p.m. EDT at a conservative conference, only a few hours before the release of results from the straw poll in Iowa, the nation’s first caucus state. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota are hoping for a boost.
“I have never seen this landslide of emotion for a candidacy. I cannot literally keep up with the emails and messages coming into my cellphone,” said Katon Dawson, a former GOP chairman in South Carolina who’s a Perry supporter.
“There is an excitement for Gov. Perry that there just isn’t around the other candidates.”
Perry, 61, was to visit New Hampshire, the first-in-the-nation primary state, later Saturday before stepping onto Iowa soil Sunday.
The leading GOP candidate so far has been Mitt Romney, a former Massachusetts governor making his second run for the nomination. But no one in the field has managed to raise the kind of enthusiasm among conservatives that seems to surround Perry.
Among the others in the race are former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and businessman Herman Cain.
Through three terms as governor, Perry has overseen significant job growth in his state while working to keep taxes low. He was an early backer of the tea party movement. He enjoys the support of social conservatives because of his opposition to abortion and gay rights. He is also an evangelical Christian who organized a well-attended prayer rally in Houston last week.
Perry is a prodigious fundraiser who has begun laying the groundwork for a national finance network that supporters say would rival President Barack Obama’s. Obama is expected to exceed his record $750 million haul from 2008.
But some Republicans worry that Perry’s hard-core conservatism and Texas style may not play well in a 50-state contest, particularly so soon after another Texas governor, George W. Bush, served in the White House.
Bush had record low approval ratings when he left office in 2009.
Perry’s visit to New Hampshire was to be his first of the year, on the heels of a visit by some state activists to Texas to encourage him to run.
Romney has dominated early polling in New Hampshire, where he has a summer home and has devoted much of his campaigning so far.

I am with you. No one makes it to a high enough lever to even be a viable candidate without rubbing elbows somewhere with a few turd burgers. I prefer anyone currently running for the republican nomination to what is currently in office. Far from being a Newt fan, but would hands down rather have him than Obama. Perry is electable. You can tell but looking at the lib blogs, and see them crap their pants over Perry. They fear him for a reason. they know their boy can not stand toe to toe in a debate. Many people develop their own thoughts and beliefs after years of influence from school, pastors, college, parents, etc. The point is, 23 years is a long time. I’m sure a lot has happened in the life of Rick Perry during that time that he maybe has reformed some of this thoughts. I can’t see faulting someone for being a democrat 23 years ago when what they are accomplishing now is not the same.
Remember, Ronald Reagan once said the democratic party left him not the other way around.

Someone on here said it very well about a week ago: If you can’t agree with your spouse or child or parent or teacher or pastor 100% of the time, how can you expect a candidate to fall completely in line with your set of principals.
We need to put in the best option as well as the one most likely to take down Obama. I think Rick fits the bill on both accounts.
Look at his record as Texas Gov. He is pro life, anti gay marriage and yet pro-states rights. He is for small businesses and less taxes. Taking everything into account he is the best option that is electable. He’s no frikkin John McCain either.

His full backing of in state scholarships for illegal aliens, backing of the Trans-Texas corridor and having been a former Al Gore campaign manager are enough reasons right there to break the deal. If you are considering voting for this fraud ask a few Texans what they think of him. If it wasn’t for the very conservative Texas legislature keeping his spending and taxing in check, people would see clearly what a RINO he really is. Glenn Becks support of Perry is one of the only areas that I strongly disagree with him on. I think he is every bit as big of an opportunist and RINO as former Gov. Charlie Crist and almost an Arlen Specter.

I could type for days about Rick“Great Hair” Perry, but the Blaze won’t allow Posts approaching the “Great American Novel” in length. So I will Summarize:
Great Hair is a Retread Democrat AKA RHINO, that changed his Outside Colors to suit the Politcal Climate Change of the Reagan Era.
He was the driving force behind the I35 Corridor and all manner of Toll Roads, to be built on Property taken from TEXANS by Emminent Domain and GIVEN to FOREIGN NATIONALS to OWN, CONTROL and OPERATE for “THEIR” PROFIT. ONLY the VERY REAL THREAT of PHYSICAL VIOLENCE, AKA a .270, disuaded him and his Cronies from that plan.
He authored and signed an “EXECUTIVE ORDER” that would have resulted in the FORCED VACCINATION of EVERY TEENAGE GIRL in the State for Cervical Cancer. The LEGISLATURE STOPPED that LUNACY for the very SAME REASON as is listed above concerning the CORRIDOR.
He claims to be a friend of Business, but on his watch, there have been NO END of NEW REGULATIONS, with FEES of course, not to mention HIS NEW BLANKET 1% TAX on TOTAL REVENUES for EVERY BUSINESS in the STATE, profitable or not. HIS sham of Lowering the EXORBITANT PROPERTY TAXES a couple years back, resulted in sudden HIGHER APPRAISALS, and you guessed it HIGHER TAXES.
The list goes on and on.

Old Great Hair, has TALKED TOUGH on the Mexican Invasion, but that’s all it has been is TALK. He has from his first day as Governor had 10s of 1000s of Volunteers, ready willng and able to “MONITOR” every inch of the Border 24/7s and report ANY MOVEMENT to the INS/ICE etc. But NOOOO WAAAY. Perry, just like Horge Bush, just loves the continued flow of Wets and Drugs and everything else that Mexico needs to send el Norte. Texas Schools, County Hospitals, Police/Courts, ALL SOCIAL SERVICES, are “Down by the Helm and Sinking Fast” with the OVERLOAD of NEW RECIPIENTS, fostered and ENCOURAGED by these CONSERVATIVES. And we will be in DEEP DEFICIT DO DO, next year, no matter what happens in the Texas Economy.
Perry is /was/will always be a PROGRESSIVE BIG GOVERNMENT POSTER CHILD. Those that supported McCain will love him, Great Hair is McStain with a twist. He gladly takes credit for Texas having such a great Economy, BUT the REAL TRUTH from the Grassroots level here is that the TEXAS ECONOMY has survived not BECAUSE of Perry, but IN SPITE of him.
To be Fair, Great Hair has been pretty good on GUNS, but then we are talking about TEXAS here. What else could he do?? Anti Gun is afterall, POLITICAL SUICIDE in Texas.
And, YES, Perry would get my vote over Obama, but then so would ANY FERAL HOG that might be running.

On the other hand, he’s also pushed for local police to have more authority to check on people’s immigration status…
Report Post »…In fact, Somos Republican leader Dee Dee Garcia Blase has told The Colorado Independent that Latinos have long considered Perry a friend, but that his recent positions have begun alienating Latinos.
Talking Points Memo sums up Perry’s Latino problem or immigration problem eloquently noting how swiftly he has gone from Latino hero as a new governor to Latino enemy as a long-serving governor with his eye on a bigger prize.
In August 2001, Governor Rick Perry stopped by Edinburg, Texas, to deliver a speech before a gathering of Mexican and United States officials on issue related to the border. Emphasizing the cultural and economic connections between the two nations, Perry called for new investment in infrastructure and an easing of restrictions on border traffic to further deepen ties. He also took a moment to tout a groundbreaking new law that allowed children of illegal immigrants to receive in-state tuition at Texas…

Posted on August 13, 2011 at 1:41pmAmnesty Rick Perry is all flash: He‘s the Republican’s Obama. Haven‘t we learned that just because someone can talk a good story doesn’t mean he can perform at all. When viewing his record, weed out everything for which he is credited and which he did not not have personal responsibility. Businesses moving to Texas? Taxes and labor costs in other states. Low taxes and labor costs have ALWAYS been the case in Texas. That draw was because other states became too expensive. Climate? That’s been around awhile too. International ports? Been around awhile. Universities? Been around awhile. It is not that Rick Parry made Texas that much better, it is that other states got that much worse; he just happened to be governor when it happened.
I want to see a REAL plan for the economy; plans, not platitudes and generalities. Written in legal language ready for presentation for Congress. On paper and on the Internet for all to see. It should have performance based quantifiable objectives, and measurable milestones for review on 90 day increments just like a business plan. That way we can see if the plan is working or not, and stop it if it goes wrong before we pour good money after bad. It should include language that says that if milestones are not hit or exceeded for three consecutive quarters, the entire bill/law becomes null and void, and no additional spending can be attributed to it.

The Texas Governor has an unusually cozy relationship with the Muslim community.
ATTENTION BNI READERS: Please share this story with your Facebook or other online friends. It’s pretty much under the radar so far.
Grendel Report – Rick Perry has made a name for himself in the last few weeks by palling around with some radical evangelical Christian figures who are openly hostile to Islam, and have even, in one notable case, called for a ban on Muslim immigration to the U.S. But it turns out that the Texas governor has had surprisingly warm, constructive relations with at least one group of Muslims over the years.
Perry is a friend of the Aga Khan, the religious leader of the Ismailis, a sect of Shia Islam that claims a reported 15 to 20 million adherents worldwide. Sprouting from that friendship are at least two cooperation agreements between the state of Texas and Ismaili institutions, including a far-reaching program to educate Texas schoolchildren about Islam. That’s a partnership that has already prompted a bit of grumbling in far-right corners of the blogosphere and could conceivably become a primary issue if, as expected, Perry enters the presidential race.
The Aga Khan, who claims a direct lineage to the Prophet Mohammed, controls a vast international network of business and philanthropi

Posted on August 13, 2011 at 2:16pmAnd what was Perry’s reason for changing parties? How about political gain and higher office. The Republican party recruited him. Whereas Reagan evolved in his political thinking while he was the ambassador for General Electric. As he traveled the country talking to the employees, plant managers and community groups he found a similar complaint in his visits; over regulation and high taxes. As he wrote his own speeches both before and after he was President he studied and learned. It was his new knowledge that opened his eyes and influenced him to change parties, not because he was recruited or because it was a better political move.
While Texas might be the best place for business I have not been happy with many of his other policies and they are a warning sign to me.

Posted on August 13, 2011 at 1:59pmPerry attended Bilderberg and 2007 and 2011. As reported in part in Inforwars: Speculation that Perry is the Bilderberg group’s ace card was prompted by the current political climate, which can largely be gleaned from the fact that Perry is a longtime, unwavering supporter of the NAFTA superhighway and related infrastructure projects. These pave the way for the Bilderberg-supported North American Union (NAU) proposal that would merge the US, Canada, and Mexico.
I hope someone will followup on this, but I found that Perry used to be Al Gore’s campaign manager(?)
Mitt Romney has attended Bilderberg. Again, please do your own homework. We already know that Obama and Hillary has attended multiple Bilderberg meetings and has set the sail (along with Bush) towards their agenda.
The Council on Foreign Relations and trilateral committee are included in this agenda of a NWO and north American open borders. Many in our government have ties to these organizations. Basically, it’s about globalization on their part.
I realize it all sounds hard to believe, I feel the same way. But, for good or bad, I will gather more incite into who these candidates are, who they are connected with, and what they truly stand for. We need to find someone who is going to actually represent US. We are still months away from an election. We cannot afford another misstep.
