Rick Perry In Iowa: ‘We Are Indignant About A President Who Apologizes For America’

The new kid on the block has come out to play.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry spoke in Iowa Sunday night for the first time since announcing his candidacy for president in South Carolina Saturday. Along with Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, Gov. Perry was one of three 2012 Republican presidential candidates speaking at the Black Hawk County Republican Party annual dinner in Waterloo.
Gov. Perry used the platform to emphasize his economic track record, take jabs at the policies of President Barack Obama, and show off his well-document political acumen and Texas swagger; reportedly high-fiving little kids, kissing 100-year-old women on the cheek and discussing rain totals with farmers as he entered the venue’s ballroom surrounded by mobs. Washington Times on Gov. Perry‘s engaging presence in Waterloo Sunday:
“‘We are indignant about a president who apologizes for America,’ said Mr. Perry, who officially announced Saturday that he would seek the Republican presidential nomination.
Mr. Perry left the podium and moved with ease about the stage, looking directly at individual members of the audience instead of reading from a script. He also took questions from the audience, again with an ease few Republican candidates have shown.”
Speaking to an audience of about 300 at the GOP fundraiser, Perry said the biggest issue facing the United States is “economic turmoil.“ He says that if the president ”doesn’t get this country working, we’re in trouble.”
“We need to be focused on jobs in this country. We need to focus on getting our country moving again,” said Gov. Perry as reported by USA Today. “Forty percent of all jobs in America were created in the state of Texas.”
Joe Garolfoli of the San Francisco Chronicle has posted an early cut of the Governor’s Waterloo Speech:
While Sunday’s speech showed the instant energy Gov. Perry brings to the campaign, it also produced a statement which some are already deeming controversial:
“One of the reasons that I’m running for president is I want to make sure that every young man and woman who puts on the uniform of the United States respects highly the president of the United States,”
Ed Morrissey of Hot Air reported that the line drew rousing cheers from the crowd, but POLITICO’s Ben Smith analyzed how the line could perhaps be twisted against the Texas Governor:
“The line could be taken either as a slur on the military — they’re pretty much obligated to respect the president, or at least the presidency; or as a sort of validation of military doubts about civilian leadership, which isn’t exactly standard issue politics in the developed world.
But if the line is close to the edge, it may also resonate, capturing discontent with Obama that’s common among soldiers, and serving as a reminder that Perry’s the only leading Republican to have served.”
He plans to hold private meetings with GOP elected officials as he travels around the state Monday and Tuesday in a motor coach splashed with his name and the slogan “Get America working again.” On Tuesday, Perry plans to hold an economic roundtable with businesspeople in Dubuque.
“We’re going to spend a lot of time in Iowa,” Perry told reporters.
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, the winner of Saturday’s Iowa straw poll, was also speaking at the fundraiser. Fresh off her win in a closely watched test vote, the Minnesota Congresswoman portrayed herself as a mainstream Midwesterner. Bachmann touted her experience running her family’s small business in Minnesota.
“We started our own successful small company,” she told reporters. “We know how to build from scratch, putting capital together and starting a business from scratch and building it up so that we can actually offer jobs to people.”
Rep. Bachmann waited outside the building in her campaign bus until Gov. Perry and Sen. Santorum were done speaking before entering the event. Several media sources suggested that the move prompted Republicans at the dinner to debate whether Rep. Bachmann was acting in politeness or a snub of two men intruding on her home turf.
Sen. Santorum and Gov. Perry are not the only political competitors to soon be on the Congresswoman’s turf. President Obama is beginning his bus tour in Rep. Bachmann’s home state of Minnesota on Monday, eventually making it to Iowa during a three-day midwest trip.

Posted on August 15, 2011 at 12:59amThe concept that the Savior taught socialism is an utter corruption of his message and is a tool and message of the adversary. In fact, involuntary extraction of wealth and distribution of it by evil, designing, venal and corrupt politicians is a violation of several of the Ten Commandments. Those that teach this principle pervert the ways of God and will suffer the consequences.

Posted on August 15, 2011 at 1:10amIf he was a socialist explain 2 Thessalonians 3:10
besides that I’m not aware that Jesus told his followers to allow the goverment to take, TAKE your wealth and let them divide it up amongst the poor. Try reading Deuteronomy 14:28, 29, Numbers 18:24, Matthew 6:1-4 and 1 Timothy 5:3-16.
Its about individual charity, Or charity through your Church or by your family,
Didn’t see anything about goverment, state county, city or municipality. Did I miss it somewhere?
Also read the 10th commandment. Which supports the right of individual ownership and private property. Do you even understand the concept of socialism?
While your at it take a look at Proverbs 10:4. It’s about hard work brings wealth. How in a socialist goverment can one obtain wealth but have it re-distributed by the goverment….?
And lastly the founders who were a majority of Christians, you should read their works. It’s fascinating. Unfortunately MSNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC and all the other left wing controlled media outlets would classify them as cooks as they are doing with Bachman and Perry. How then can they construct a goverment so apart from a socialist design and incorporate a free market system designed for individual freedoms and liberties?
I suggest you read your bible and stop listening to so called “Red Letter Christians” who like the COE manipulated the ignorant and lead them away from the very lessons Christ was teaching.
Thank you. I’ll be here all week,,,,tip your waitress

Jesus also wanted us to give from our heart not be enslaved to do so my dictate. Anyone who thinks this clown is a viable Presidential candidate is beyond gullible. We already had three previous Presidents who drank, partied and did drugs in college and where has that gotten us? Get serious America!
Very Christian of him to put to death an innocent man for political expediency and forced vaccinations to pay back a political donor. He is no real conservative far from it, he will go to Washington and just be another tax and spend progressive. Don’t even expect anything to be done with our borders except open them wide open with Perry. This guy is Mike Huckabee times 10.

Someone mentioned him being like a snake oil salesman and that basically he is using his religion to just get votes and political contributions. Rick Perry is PRO-NAFTA & THE NAFTA HIGHWAY (think North American Union)
He was Al Gore’s Campaign Manager! (Now who in their right mind would promote Al Gore???)
He actually upped the taxes in Texas before he lowered them, but imposed “fees.”
And most importantly, HE IS A SUPPORTER OF THE COUNCIL ON FOREIGN RELATIONS
(think not only CFR, but Bilderburg!!!) In my mind that makes him a NeoCon PLANT!
Not to mention blood on his hands from mandating Gardasil in Texas!
Pretty words, pretty face, but………………………..

I am sick and tired of people believing the media BUll S. about Mitt, everything he does is for service to his country and if anyone in politics should ever be given a benefit of the doubt on anything it is Mitt Romney. He has walked the walk and is as sincere of a person as this nation will ever find and anyone who has not set aside all of the media distortions on him and took the time to get to see what Mitt Romney is all about is going to be making a huge mistake regardless of who else they vote for, because if we will make the right decision this time we have the chance to elect the best president since George Washington and that is Mitt Romney. This system only leads to misery for all. Lack of motivation to be productive and bondage to government for those who rely upon it for their sustenance.
Read about history – socialism and communism result in mass misery, not “making us better people”! More people have been slaughtered in the name of communism “for the common good” than in all wars combined. You see, when prosperity is killed by this redistribution system, poverty spreads. When poverty spreads, the state can no longer support the burden, so it looks for “solutions”. Mao, Lennin, Stalin – all found their solution in mass murder. Do you think Jesus wants that?

If Perry didn’t crack a book, attend a lecture or turn in a term paper 40 years ago (when school was a lot harder than it is now) has nothing to do with who he is as an adult or his intelligence.
People’s priorities in life change, they grow up, its the family stuff that sticks with you. Exhibit A Obama; dad was a marxist, mom was a marxist, mentor was a marxist, he hung with the marxist professors, launched his political career in the home of a marxist, got the endorsement of the New Party in Chicago, and then went on to surround himself with marxists in his cabinet, and Keynesian economics all the way.

Posted on August 15, 2011 at 10:12am@REPUBLICORP, I am not taking anything away from common Americans who did not do good in school but we are talking Perry who is seeking the highest office in the land and sorry a 1.9 gpa out of someone who wants the respect of all Americans and world leaders is pathetic. It shows lack of pride, responsibility, effort and quality workmanship and does not even rise to the level of mediocrity. We have major world and domestic problems in our world and I want someone who has proven themselves to be diligent in problem solving and takes great pride in themselves and America. Someone who has proven they are not just going to take the easy road or most politically convenient path. Rick Perry asking for our vote for President should expect to be raked over the coals just like all candidates. Let me ask you what would the degree of mockery be directed at Mitt Romney if he had such piss poor grades in school? He would have been scorned and mocked out of the 2008 race for that alone, so lets hold all of these who want our precious votes to the same standards.
Cultures like India, Japan and China take GPA scores very seriously and you are held in great esteem for high academic achievements and would be considered to have dishonored your family and country with those grades in those societies. This is pertinent because our President must be able to command respect from leaders around the world and even employers in our country judge fitness for employ-ability on grades and academics.

I agree wholeheartedly that GW screwed up a lot of stuff, but I also see Perry listening to his constituents here in TX – such as when he wanted toll roads and the people said, “NO!” he backed off (same with the mandatory Gardisil injections). I think anyone in any type of power position will always be scrutinized, they just have to be strong enough to stand for what they believe in and be wise enough to spot “bad dealing” when they see it (or at least surround themselves with those that can). One of my former bosses always said he may have not been the smartest person in the room, but he was smart enough to know to surround himself with smart people that made him look good. We can hope that Perry will appoint those people to positions and get this government turned around. God bless.

Posted on August 14, 2011 at 11:09pmRick Perry wrote a book last year titled “FED UP”. He claims to be a 10th amendment, States rights candidate. I will listen and watch him closely. If he is in fact a person who believes that the Fed Govt is way too big and he has a plan to return power to the States, I will support him.
I think anyone who has been a senator or a representative and has worked in Washington for too long is tainted. Both parties in DC believe the Federal Government is master over the States, they just have different priorities. When the opposite is true, the States created the US Constitution and only loaned certain specific powers to the Federal Government. The founding fathers and many people like the Tea Party favor a very limited Federal govt and Strong states rights.
For that reason I am leaning away from Bachmann, Paul or anyone else who spent to much time in DC. I want someone who can go to that craphole DC, and clean house and regain States rights. GW Bush tried to get a long and they kicked his a$$, he tried to be nice and they walked all over him. I see and hear something different in Perry, I think he will give them a fight. Nobody else seems to have the Stones” to take on Obama and then eventually DC.

Posted on August 14, 2011 at 11:19pmYes. However, as they say on those infomercials…but wait, there’s more! And here it is:
“Perry was raised in a Democrat family where his father was a Democrat county commissioner. It was natural for him to start his political career as a Democrat. He won his first election in 1984 when he was elected to the Texas house. He became Gore’s Texas campaign manager in 1988.
Those too young to remember wouldn’t recognize the Al Gore of 1988. He opposed federal funding of abortion, supported a moment of silence in schools for prayer, approved funding of the Nicaraguan contras and was against the ban on interstate handgun sales. Gore’s platform was one that a conservative West Texas Democrat like state representative Perry could support when he signed up to chair the Senator’s Texas campaign.
From the election on, the Gore/Perry partnership began to crumble and the way that their paths diverged in the past three decades speaks eloquently to the way American politics has been reshaped. Gore has sailed left, while Perry’s political odyssey has seen him tack in the other direction — and to the opposing party.
Perry says that the Gore experience helped him “come to his senses,” and he switched to the Republican party in 1989, fully 22 years ago. Perry switched parties over two decades ago and critics somehow think that bringing it up now is newsworthy? Sorry guys, as we say in Texas, that dog won’t hunt.” Source: http://peskytruth.wordpress.com/2011/
