Rick Sanchez Gives First Interview Since CNN Firing: ‘I Screwed Up’

A very contrite Rick Sanchez appeared on ABC’s “Good Morning America” this morning to discuss his controversial comments about Jon Stewart and his subsequent firing from CNN.

“It’s tough. I screwed up, George,” he said to interviewer George Stephanopoulos. While not defensive, he did offer a new reason for the comments beside being tired and overworked: he wanted to get to his daughter’s softball game and was getting impatitent.

Still, he admits he said some things he “shouldn’t have said,“ adding that ”not only were they wrong, but they were offensive” and people should know that’s “not what I meant and I apologize.” However he did degenerate a little into race speech, noting that there are a lack of minorities on primetime cable newscasts. The interview is in two parts below:

Where the hell were you with this true journalistic attitude when Obama was running for President Rick?!!!!!!!!!!!

I write it again Rick…the title of your book, “Conventional Idiocy”, is spot on.

    Drunk driving incident
On December 10, 1990, Sanchez was in a neighborhood in the vicinity of Joe Robbie Stadium, driving home with his father from a football game when he struck Jeffrey Smuzinick, a pedestrian. Sanchez fled from the location at which the accident occurred, but returned a few hours later. Whereas statements by witnesses say that Sanchez protested in a shrill tone against having his blood alcohol content checked, (because he believed that his reputation would thereby be damaged), and that he gave no help to Smuzinick, Sanchez asserted that he attempted to attract the notice of passing drivers and to render medical assistance.[5] Smuzinick was paralyzed and, on November 2, 1995, died in an assisted living facility.[6] A blood test by police determined that Sanchez’s blood alcohol level was .15%, thus above the legal limit of .10%. Sanchez was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and pleaded No Contest.[7] Havana, rick, what a schmuck.

BooHoo…he has been so wronged! Sounds like the American dream…parents immigrated to this country, worked hard and son became a very rich celeb but he still complains about how he was discriminated against. Go back to Cuba and see how life is there. He would have been put in prison! Oh yeah…let’s not forget the DUI and subsequent murder he got away with because of his celebrity!

Rick: No, in 10 meters…It’s like 11 or something.

    LOL! CLASSIC!!!!!!!

Rick Sanchez is such a tool. As an American of Cuban origin, I feel ashamed knowing that his background is similar to mine.

Most of us are very conservative, but there are always a few rotten apples, and Rick Sanchez is as bad as they get. Good riddance, let’s hope this nobody fades fast from the front page of the news.

Unbelievable! I cannot understand why we cannot just be AMERICANS, no dash-Americans, just AMERICANS. We are all in this together trying to be apart from each other! I just don’t get it! Except to say, “Divide and Conquer” seems to be the way bigots think…

Take it from a fellow American of Cuban origin, most of us are not like this tool called Rick Sanchez. He should be ashamed of himself for being a racebater and a sleazy socialist. I watched him one time on CNN and my head almost exploded.

And yeah, I agree with you. I am sick of the whatever-American label and the “minority” labels. Not like anyone would ever buy it from me anyways, since my grandparents were Spaniards and I am blond and white…But the real reason is because I am a conservative who believes in measuring others not by the color of their skin, but by their character and integrity. The minute we stop the racial labeling and call ourselves Americans, this country will be a better place for all!

You know, when people show you who they really are, believe them the first time. He’s a bitter, angry man who feels like he is being “kept down” by the Jews. What always irks me is people who destroy their own lives acting as if they are the poor victims of circumstance and it is never their fault.

I remember when I was in High School in Miami 20 years ago, they invited Rick to come and give one of them “this is what you can be when you grow up” speech’s in our auditorium. At the time Rick was a local Newsman. And I remember thinking to myself then “What a moronic arrogant ***** this guy is!” I guess somethings just don’t ever change.

Nice excuses. The host gave him every opportunity to walk back the statement or to say that he was getting impatient. at one point, the host even says that they went way over on time, but it didn‘t matter because they didn’t have commercials, giving sanchez an out to get to his kids softball game. What a joke. If Rick Sanchez was a conservative republican, there would be outrage and Jon Stewart would probably fist fight him or go on O’Reilly and talk about how this type of extremism is all tea party tough talk. Then they would spoon.
