Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum is no stranger to controversy. While the former Pennsylvania senator has gained the respect and admiration of many on the right, he continues to have run-ins with liberals who oppose his socially-conservative views. Last night, he experienced yet another one of these incidents in Tacoma, Washington, when he was shouted down, then glitter bombed by Occupy protesters.

The Wall Street Journal has more regarding the altercation that unfolded right down the road from the local Occupy encampment:
Shortly after the former senator from Pennsylvania began addressing a receptive crowd, a group of young protesters in the front row began chanting slogans such as “go away” and “right-wing bigot,” a reference to Mr. Santorum’s opposition to gay marriage, one of them said afterward. The surging GOP-candidate then spent the next hour battling the vocal minority. [...]
“What they represent is true intolerance,” Mr. Santorum said. “I don’t think they’re a bigot because they disagree with me.”
He added later, “I understand their frustration. For three years they haven’t been able to find work, they have a president that doesn’t care about them… Their president has left them behind, but we won’t.”
Watch Santorum talk over the protesters’ chants, below:
Other outlets went on to describe the chaos that unfolded, with KIRO-7 claiming that there were a number of arrests (including a young woman who allegedly glitter-bombed Santorum). One Occupier claims that the police used a Taser on the protesters as well:
Taking a different angle on the matter, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd discussed the incident and used it to question whether Santorum has the structure needed to run a national campaign, should he secure the GOP nomination:
While last night‘s attempted glitter attack wasn’t caught on camera (although we’re still scouring the Internet for the clip), you can watch a December 2011 Santorum glitter bomb, below:

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 2:59pmDo Santorum supporters understand the meaning of “CONSERVATIVE”???
- As a U.S. Senator, Rick Santorum voted to raise the debt ceiling SIX TIMES.
- Santorum voted to DOUBLE the size of the U.S. Department of Education.
- Santorum supported the largest expansion of the welfare state since the 1960s, the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit, which added a $16 TRILLION UNFUNDED LIABILITY to the national debt.
-Santorum supports foreign aid, the process by which the U.S. government borrows money from China and uses it to bribe and prop up foreign governments (including China’s), while taxing Americans to pay interest on the loans.
-After all the death and destruction wrought by the Iraq war, Santorum is now leading the charge for another war of aggression which is based on dubious claims about weapons.
-Santorum sided with big labor unions in opposing a national right-to-work law that would have protected workers from being forced to pay union dues. He supported federal housing programs and government-sponsored enterprises like Fannie and Freddie, which inflated the housing bubble.
-Santorum, collected $100,000 in taxpayer funds from the Penn Hills School District between 2001 and 2005 to pay for online courses for his home-schooled children. He did this by fraudulently claiming residency in Pennsylvania while he and his family actually lived in Washington, D.C.

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 11:08amI dont mind protesting at all, but the glitter bombs are a in all honest an assault. What would happen if someone did it to Obama? It would be considered assault. Same should go for candidates. If you believe in true Constitutional freedom, you believe you can do what you want as long as it doesnt effect others. If glitter is being thrown in my face, I consider that an infringement on my person.

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 3:41pmthe definition of assault is an “action that causes the victim to fear violence”. So if you think having a gay person dance around you throwing tiny cut up pieces of reflective colored paper is enough to have you worry about your physical safety, then sure, call it assault. I’d like to see you take someone to court for this. I can tell you for sure, though, that you should stay indoors, because god forbid a spec of dust flies up in your eye – who would you complain about then? never mind, you’d probably blame liberals.

When I listen to him, he is certainly talking about things that will only add to our debt — i.e – Wars we cannot afford – raising the debt ceiling AGAIN, etc. etc.
Santorum is NOT the ‘second coming’ ….his religious views will not work like ‘magic’ to fix our country. His principles are weak and very one-sided.

Posted on February 14, 2012 at 11:52am@ Faith1029 Are Americans that hopeless & clueless, that we’re actually looking to the federal govt. for guidance and direction in our morality and our family lives? Next we’ll be looking to the UN to do these things for us. Where in the Constitution is the office of the president charged with doing these things? This country is in worse shape than I‘d thought if we’re looking to a politician like Santorum or any other person in govt to guide our morality and to be involved in our personal family lives. The proper order is we look to God and God only for these things, NOT the fed govt.
I don’t care if our president is athiest, Gay, Christian or otherwise, as long as he/she strictly follows the constitution and protects my God given rights. How ridiculous is this? “I want to be a moral person, so please Santorum, go to Washington and pass more laws that force me be moral” America wake up, we solve our morality problem (and we do have one) on an individual level, corrupt politicians are not going are not going to fix a corrupt people.
