Rights Groups Want Airlines to Issue Dress Codes for Flying

For decades passengers have traveled aboard air carriers without being instructed on the appropriate attire for their sky-bound journeys. And while some travelers have come under fire for donning outfits deemed too outrageous for the friendly skies — namely the male U.S. Airways passenger who wore ladies’ lingerie, stockings and high heels – flyers rights groups are now calling on airlines to publish dress codes in the same manner they publish ticket prices and baggage restrictions.
“People aren’t mind readers,” says Kate Hanni, executive director of FlyersRights.org. “They don‘t know what that flight attendant’s going to want to see when you get on a plane!”
Fox News adds:
She argues the lack of consistency leaves passengers exposed to the judgments of the flight crew, who may take offense at clothing that wouldn’t be considered indecent off the plane, but which leads to an argument and sometimes ends with the passenger getting kicked off. Such an incident happened in San Francisco this past June, when a college football player’s low hung pants- and his refusal to pull them up- caused his controversial removal from the plane.
Most airlines agree that the people running the flight need to know passengers will do what they’re told.
[...] Indeed, most of the major carriers scoff at spelling out specifics, and only give general guidelines in their contracts of carriage. American Airlines, for instance, won’t give a maximum weight limit, but reserves the right to turn away anyone deemed too fat to comply with safety instructions by themselves. The airlines say it also within its right to kick off someone with an offensive odor not caused by an illness or disability. On the question of clothing, passengers can be booted if they’re dressed in a manner “that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers.”
The proposed policy has also drawn critics, who assert airlines would open themselves up to lawsuits in the event a flight-crew overreacts to a passenger’s form of dress.
Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson told Fox News, ”If an airline’s going to be so unreasonable for kicking someone off a plane for wearing saggy pants or being slightly overweight, to me, it just seems impolite of the airline to behave in that way.”

Report Post »The world is so upside-down now and with every freak wanting to make their personal fashion statement. I suggest that since you have so many demands and rights why don’t you just demand a gay airline? Just think of the possibilities. “We are the greenest airline since everyone that flies with us are light in their loafers” or come fly with us we have the new improved latex ribbed seating for your flying comfort. The possibilities are endless!

Posted on November 26, 2011 at 4:40pmNo one will dress normally when the TSA makes them take off their shoes, and walk on the filthy floor, wads up suit coats, making sure they are well wrinkled, feels them up, under the guise of ‘safety’,and takes nude photos etc,etc and so forth. By the time boarding is complete one wonders if the next stop will be Dachau.

Would it not be a fair assumption a woman in lingerie would be asked to “get dressed” prior to boarding a plane?! This “San Francisco gay-pride parade” look is too over the top and in-your-face to be acceptable ANYWHERE other than a parade, gay club, etc., let alone a trip on a plane.

Posted on November 26, 2011 at 7:05am#1 – Cross-dressers are not necessarily homosexuals, #2 – It would not be appropriate for ANYONE, man or woman to dress like that while traveling.
The only reason someone would dress like this is for shock value and attention which he/she got plenty of. Sad really.

Posted on November 26, 2011 at 10:27amDon‘t care about these people’s personal lives. Just don’t dress like a female or male Whore out in public, especially on public transportation. I wouldn’t want to sit next to something dressed like that, other than at the beach or pool. Common sense, just don’t allow public absurd expression of near nudity where someone has to sit next to an anomaly.. duh?

Posted on November 26, 2011 at 2:36amIt used to be a man dressed up like a woman would be locked up in the mental institution, but now you will be locked up in the institution if you don’t agree with it.

Posted on November 26, 2011 at 2:35amDiscriminating against some old qu*eer dressed in women’s lingerie shows how closed minded and hateful you are. You suffer from the mental illness condition diagnosed as “homophobia.” It’s you and not the man dressed like a woman, who has the mental illness. You are mentally ill for not thinking that’s normal. That’s how times have changed.
Report Post »PKama
Posted on November 26, 2011 at 3:29am@SILLYFRESHNESS..then you can say that I have the condition that you call Homophobia because I will NEVER accept a grown man wearing women undies to an airport to take a flight as normal. There is a something very very wrong with people like this person and you, who try to push this sick behavior on the rest of us to accept. This sick person has every right to dress anyway he wants as long as he does not break the law, but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not try to brand the rest of us as the sick ones for not accepting the ridiculous behavior of people like this. There was one time that I made a wrong turn in San Francisco and we ended up with my family in the homosexual part of the city. My little 5 year old daughter yelled from the back seat, daddy, daddy, look at those 2 men kissing, and these men were really going at it.I had to answer a lot of questions from her because of that.I told her that what these men were doing was not normal and it is wrong according to our belief. As a Christian, that is what I believe and that is what I will teach my children. You can dress anyway you want and flaunt your lifestyle anyway you want and I will teach my children the way I believe is right. If you call me a HOMOPHOBIA for that, so be it. I know that when there is an opposing view to any homosexual behavior, that person will be called Homophobic by people like you. If that is how you see it, then I am a Homophobic. Last time I checked, it is still a free country. May God bless you.
