For those of you who were hoping to see a hologram Ronald Reagan this year at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, here’s the good news: it exists. There was some speculation that the conservative hero would be making an appearance at the convention, but many wrote it off as hearsay. As it turns out, it was true.
Similar to the surprise Tupac hologram that stole the show at this year’s Coachella music festival, a hologram of Reagan was initially scheduled to make an appearance outside of the GOP convention this week. However, RNC officials requested that the creators of the digital Reagan to delay the presentation because it may “overshadow” Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech on Thursday, Yahoo News reports.
“It wasn’t officially going to be part of the convention,” Tony Reynolds, one of the creators, told Yahoo News. “It was going to be outside of the convention at the Lakeland Center.”
Reynolds said he plans on using the Reagan hologram to promote the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS) and has obtained the rights to a Reagan speech talking about small businesses. To craft this plan, he has been collaborating with AV Concepts, one of the companies that made Tupac Shakur come to life at Coachella.
But those plans were shot down when Reynolds says a number of Republican activists asked him to delay the project out of concern it would “overshadow” Romney’s acceptance speech.
“At the time he hadn’t chosen Paul Ryan, so I think they were a little worried about his energy,” Reynolds said. “Even in a hologram form I think Reagan’s going to beat a lot of people in terms of communicating.”
But Reynolds said the Reagan unveiling was also due to the fact that he didn’t want the prized hologram to be used in a partisan way, which would be hard to do at the Republican National Convention.
“We were careful because the JOBS Act was a bipartisan bill and we didn’t want to seem like we were favoring Republicans,” he added.
The Reagan hologram will be debuted either later this year or early 2013, so you’ll have to wait until then.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 12:43pmI don‘t think it would’ve overshadowed his speech. I think it would’ve diminished Romneys chance of winning. Reagan had his problems. But, he was a great president, in my opinion. That was then. This is now. The GOP needs to stop bringing up Reagan and then acting in total opposition to what Reagan stood for. They need to stop looking to the past for their greatness, and instead build a greater future. Don’t try to equal Reagan. Try to best him. That‘s what he would’ve probably wanted. Make people call Reagan the second greatest president in recent memory.
I don’t have much hope of it happening. But, I do hope Romney changes my mind.

The reason repubs recall Reagan is the same reason oblama is calling on little ole billy clinton. There are two differences, however. oblama is an empty suit in an empty seat running on an empty record; clinton cannot help him (I heard they don’t like each other). Romney is relatively unknown. The convention‘s optimism recalls Reagan’s “it’s morning in America”.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 9:13amLike Rand Paul and Presidents Bush, Reagan was shown before prime time.
Newt Gingrch didn’t make prime time either. I can’t believe they trotted him out with his “wife”.
At least it was the Mrs. who delivered the line about remaining true.
It was hilarious to hear Newt Gingrich lecturing the President on shame.
The GOP never mentions personal responsibility any more.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 8:57am“Not to be used in a partisan way”, huh? Reagan was a conservative republican the last I checked, so that’s bunk! Of course they didn’t want to overshadow Romney, anyone watching Romney,s “repeal and replace” line after Reagan would be totally let down! It‘s the same reason Ron Paul wasn’t allowed to speak!

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 7:45amWhile the GOP establishment can claim a love for Reagan, this and the rest of their actions show that they don’t respect Reagan and what he stood for at all.
If the rules change forced in by Romney to prevent a Ron Paul-type grassroots candidate had been in place in 1976, there never would have been a President Reagan. The brokered convention in 1976 was led by grassroots republicans that were not happy with Ford, and if these rules had existed, Reagan would not have gotten a voice, instead the RNC leaders would have just (per these new rules) replaced all the “offending” delegates with puppets and pretended the dissent never existed. Kinda like how they pretended the Ron Paul dissenters didn’t exist – anyone else see that the teleprompter Boehner was reading off of had the results of the Rules vote before the vote was even held on the floor?
People are in such a rush to beat Obama at all costs, that they’re ignoring actions by the GOP establishment that will change the party forever. What good is winning when the average Joe GOPer no longer has a voice in the party?

Reagan was enough of a conservative America that he’d show up Romney for the Progressive-commie he really is …
“Again, this is why conservatives are so skeptical because Romney campaigns so cynically. Run on you record, governor. … Tell us why we conservatives should support you. … Because you’re not telling us. Because you’re not a conservative.”
“That is what is upsetting conservatives with Romney. You don’t trust him. You don’t know who he is. You [only] know what he says about everybody else. And you’re left to wonder.”
Mark Levin 2/9
“Now, I have this article in front of me from the Chicago Tribune where Romney calls Santorum an economic lightweight. Has Romney ever called Obama an economic lightweight? … Obama is destroying our country. Destroying our institutions. Romney won’t even call him a socialist. This reminds me of McCane. McCain attacking conservatives all the time, but when it came to Obama he held back. He pulled back. Something’s not right here.”
Mark Levin 3/15
“Sunday night, Romney was asked about his media strategy for the general election. … “Fox is watched by the true believers, Romney told donors.” according to the Wall Street Journal. “We need to get the independents and the women.” See, folks, this is what I’m talking about. This is Liberal-think. … Great statesmen, great leaders don’t talk this way.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 1:08amWait a minute, the RNC scraped the hologram of Reagan because of fears it would over shadow Mitt Romneys speech, but they didn’t think booking Clint Eastwood as the surprise guest was going to be the ONLY thing the main stream will be focussing on come morning?? Man, I love Mr. Eastwood, but I think the RNC dropped the ball. Should have played the hologram of the Gipper, and Ron Paul should have been the surprise guest. I agree with Glenn Beck on that point for sure. My diehard Liberal cousin was posting stories saying 17 million people tuned out tonight! I just had to tell her lets wait and see what happens at the DNC, but it looks to me like people are getting tired of this stuff already. We had better see some REAL change soon, or I fear for the future of our Republic.
