Rock Band Defends National Anthem Against Liberal Attacks With This Patriotic ‘Star Spangled Banner’ Challenge

In the past, we’ve brought you conservative rock bands who mesh patriotism with lyrical genius and obvious musical talent. Among those musicians and groups making a splash is Madison Rising, a band founded upon basic American values. This week, the band announced an interesting initiative to commemorate Independence Day and the upcoming general election battle — the “One Million Star Spangled Banner Challenge.”
(Related: Liberal Talk Show Host: National Anthem Is an ‘Abomination’)
Through the initiative, Madison Rising will offer an opportunity for Americans to rail against the negative comments that liberal commentators have uttered about the National Anthem (Current TV’s Bill Press recently called it “an abomination,” as you may recall).
Here’s a video recap of negative comments that have been uttered of late about the famed song:
The band is hoping to get one million people to view its rock version of the “Star Spangled Banner” by November 6th (election day). Also, group members are encouraging fans to download the music file and to add it to their music collections and mp3 players.

A recent press release has more about the band’s version of the song and the importance of instilling support for the patriotic hymn:
Earlier this month, Madison Rising released a distinctive and widely acclaimed rock version of the Star Spangled Banner, updated with a special addendum to reflect our nation’s struggles at the dawn of the 21st century. “We’ve re-worked the National Anthem in an absolutely unique way, but staying as true and respectful to the original version as possible,” said lead singer Dave Bray, a Navy veteran. “It updates and re-energizes one of the best-known songs in American history in way that lifts the American spirit and instills once again a sense of pride in our great nation.”
The music video has already received thousands of rave reviews with virtually everyone who watches it calling it among the best renditions ever. The song itself is available on iTunes, Amazon and numerous other outlets. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 during which Francis Scott Key originally penned the Star Spangled Banner.
Watch the video, below:
You can download the rock version of the “Star Spangled Banner” here and check out the rest of the band’s music videos on the Madison Rising YouTube page.

Posted on June 30, 2012 at 4:10amI am fortunate to have some relatives who live in New York, Viginia, and Santa Cruz. I have only met once in person, when they visit family here in Australia long time ago. We have directed friends (from Australia and UK) who visit NY to pay our uncle a visit. We only hear great things of their meeting. Uncle makes a great ambassador for the U.S.A!
So on behalf of my uncle and aunties in the USA, I will gladly play this rock version loudly and proudly here in Perth, W.A.
So good to see and hear real musicians playing real instruments and singing. And not one ‘mo fo’ profanity mentioned. Impressive!
Thank you.
Ps… Say hi to Uncle George in NY for me!

Re establishing a strong sense of nationalism will go a long way to re-empower (young) Americans…it seems like your core values have been attacked while you’ve been forced to accept it. Living on the longest undefended border in world we Canadians have should feel a debt of gratitude for our way of life, our liberties and relative affluence…Rock on America!

Posted on June 30, 2012 at 7:49pmAs usual, too heavy on the bass. Why does every rock band have to have a bass so loud that it shakes my house down? I like the song but, why all the massive thumping?
In my opinion it takes away from the message. Ease up on the bass a bit and let the rest shine.

Posted on June 30, 2012 at 8:42amI‘ll part company here and say that their version wasn’t the best that I’ve heard.
That said, the comments in the previous clip left me very sad.
It seems that the younger generation find it trendy to mock the anthem of the country that they live in, while enjoying the very freedoms that were paid for in blood and treasure.
My own country stood beside yours in every war in the twentieth century and fights beside you today, and our young people get out of bed every Anzac day (not all, that’s true, but increasingly more each year) and they echo the last line of the prayer “we shall remember them”.
My own children go to the Dawn Parade every year. Both are under six y.o. and they don’t understand yet, but I tell them about their ancestor who died for their freedom.
Few in this country would be so mocking. I’m not angry or offended. I just feel a little sad.
And to your anthem; “the land of the free, and the home of the brave” should stir the heart of the most world-weary and worn out American. To that gentleman who boo-hooed the “rockets red glare”; he clearly has no conception of the fight to preserve freedom beyond two hours in a movie theatre.
It just leaves me feeling a little let down.
And sad.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

@Everyone else
Why do you people think so few bands/artists have attempted to cover the Star Spangled Banner (with the exception of various pathetic accapella attempts at Super Bowls etc.)? Because they know it would be an over obvious case of exploiting a popular song for short-term financial gain that would ultimately be the nail in the coffin for any artistic credibility they might have had at some point.
Report Post »With a timeless genius like Hendrix, however, he actually created something totally new, an artwork in itself, that tells a story and accurately conveys the state of the Nation at the time, sentiments against the Vietnam War etc. His primary purpose was not to make money, but to express something genuine with a sense of urgency, as is the case with most true artists/good musicians.
Regarding these crap musicians, however, with one stupid decision they have doomed themselves to be stuck in the tar pit of mediocrity for all time. Any prospects of advancing musically have also been shot to pieces. Any gigs they get from now on will be solely based on that one song.
That song could be played by tone deaf, throat cancer victims wearing boxing gloves and people would still want to hear it – partly in fear of otherwise not seeming patriotic.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 5:48pmGood rendition of a great song that identifies who we are as a country. We do have much to be proud of as a country.
The story behind the writing of the song by Francis Scott Key explains the lyrics of the song. He was on a British warship as Fort McHenry was being shelled in 1814. Do a little research for the entire story, it will explain much.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 5:47pmThese guys are really good. I bought their debut album a few weeks ago after seeing them on Glenn’s spotify playlist. There’s a song titled “In the Days That Reagan Ruled” that will bring tears to your eyes! Really good stuff.

Posted on June 29, 2012 at 5:46pmYesterday, SCOTUS invalidated the National Anthem because it contains the words, “land of the free”. There are no free people in the USA, we are all subjects of the government now because of Obama, Congress and now SCOTUS with regards to the Health Care law. Arguably, everythig is about health care. Don’t believe me? Then why is NY Mayour Bloomberg trying to ban drinks larger than 16 oz. True, this is a local initiative, but how long will it be before the HHS Secretary takes it up. They already require restaurant chains to post “nutrition” information”.
SCOTUS has turn the National Anthem into a lie. I will NEVER sing it again, nor will I EVER celebrate the 4th of July as “Independence Day”.

Posted on June 30, 2012 at 4:56amAs a VietNam Vet, it is with regret that yesterday I had to turn my Stars & Stripes upside down as I now know that our once great country is in distress and under attack. My flag will remain this way until the people of this once grand land wake up and correct the huge mistake made in 2008. I will not celebrate the 4th of July this year, but will do so on the day that this bunch of criminals is walked out the door next January – cuffs optional!

Posted on July 3, 2012 at 9:44pmNO No No…displaying the American flag upside down is like placing the cross upside down.
Don’t feel or be defeated.
That is what the enemy wants.
Draw strength, stand with conviction and integrity…and most of all LOVE of USA.
