Mitt Romney has tapped Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan to be his vice presidential running mate, ending weeks of speculation about who would join the former Massachusetts governor on the Republican ticket.

The Romney campaign announced the Ryan pick to supporters beginning at about 7 a.m. Saturday via an iPhone app.

Romney and Ryan will appear together later in the morning at a naval museum in Norfolk, Va.

There was NO VP pick that was going to please everyone. Ryan’s talents are being wasted in the House as long as we have a Democratic Senate, and there is no assurance we still won’t have a Democratic Senate next year. What good is it being a financial guru if nothing can ever get past the Senate? We’ve been watching the wheels spin for two years as it is. Ryan motivates most of the base and could persuade some Blue Dogs and Independents to vote for Romney.

What i like best about ryan, is (UNLIKE BIDEN, AN EXPERT ON FOREIGN POLICY FOR OVER 20 YEARS) just like mittens————PAUL RYAN offers the US no safety or security as he knows NOTHING ABOUT FOREIGN AFFAIRS, unless he like so many pubs has had one.

      MR. RYAN AND THE LESBIAN

      LESBIAN GENERAL OFFICER

Less than a year after the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” former Army Colonel Tammy Smith was promoted to brigadier general Friday making her the first general officer to come out while serving.

Tammy Smith received her stars from her wife Tracey Hepner in a private ceremony at the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.

According to Stars and Stripes, Smith, 49, has been assigned as deputy chief at the Office of the Chief at the Army Reserve. Before “don’t ask, don’t tell” was repealed, she told the military newspaper last year that she was not planning on coming out to her colleagues, but would be relieved when she and Hepner would be able to go out together without worrying about being outed.

      NEW FACE, SAME OLD BIGOTRY

Paul Ryan has voted to ban same-sex marriage and adoption by gay couples, and he voted against repealing the “don’t ask, don’t tell” ban on gays serving openly in the military.
Mr. Ryan—gay adoption is legal in almost every state in the Union, and gays are standing in line to adopt the children that you didn’t want aborted. Make up your mind.

TXDAVE22, only a pinhead would think Biden is a good choice as VP. The man has zero chance of ever being elected president. In fact, less than zero. Biden is the laughingstock of VP’s and is there only to make Obama look good. But Paul Ryan has a great chance of eventually becoming president if Mitt Romney is elected in November. Ryan has brains, charisma and common sense, something progressives don’t possess or even understand.

Obama did nothing but waste money on cronies, demand more money to waste, divide the country for political points, spend a year forcing an unconstitutional 2000 page bill that no one read on us, take credit for the navy’s work, hinder job creation, tell countless lies… Come to think of it, he’s done a lot; too bad most of it was damaging.

Ryan is all about facts & numbers.
Oblameo is all about lies & patchwork coverups.
      Americans recognize the difference-
rebuilding calls for a whole, spanking new,
      grade-A foundation.

The “throw Granny off the cliff” crapshot FALLS on to the liberal left to DEFEND
      that’s easy-
it’s Obamascare that CUT 5 billion dollars off medicare
to shift into other irresponsible entitlements.
They took away your “Granny’s” medicare to pay for Sandra Fluke’s contraceptives-
THAT is ALL the American Seniors & People need to understand.

Many Democratic politicians, like Kathy Hochul of NY
spend all their time sympathizing with Senior citizens for their vote,
don’t be fooled by their “compassionate” voices-
in the end, remember, she voted FOR Obamascare
      which deliberately, slashed YOUR medicare.
THAT’s the reason you must NOT vote for them-
their ink is on the deal that did YOU wrong !

Romney must start dropping cabinet names-
he’s said he wants John Bolton for Sec, of State
let’s hear the others…any team is better than the O-bumblers in office now.

These details are immense, giving America a complete picture of strength & potential.
Romney is great at building a stellar team, show us his hand
& put those cards on the table NOW !

Rep. West for Sec. of Defense, Palin for Interior/Energy-
get these Tea Party Torpedos out on the campaign circuit-
THEY supply the “Grit & Gravy” Romney lacks…
THEY will secure VICTORY & save AMERICA !

I remember someone (Dick Cheney?) saying that the choice would be someone who the Presidential candidate feels could step right into his shoes if something were to happen to him. Ryan’s pick seems to confirm that logic; I think it’s possible that he would be a great President; he might even be the best qualified of the contenders. My objection here is his lack of charisma, something I feel is needed in the Romney camp. I’ll keep my fingers crossed, but this choice worries me for that reason.

Well, that’s it then. Didn’t The Blaze just run an article yesterday or the day before saying how Paul Ryan would be the number one BAD CHOICE as a VP? Not only does it take Ryan’s talents out of Congress, it gives Obama’s team full access to turn the talk from the sour economy to senior citizens losing their benefits with Medicare. I can only think that this choice was made because:
      1. The GOP hoped libertarians would mistake Paul Ryan with Rand Paul
      2. Team Romney plans to play up the “religious discrimination!” card with a Mormon/Catholic ticket. Apparently they forgot that Biden is Catholic as well.

Seems Beck was right when he said Obama would win back in November. If Romney becomes the official candidate, he effectively just handed Obama a second term.

I can’t figure out how to add my own direct comments. I do admit being a little concerned because this would take one of the most capable Republican leaders out of the House of Representatives, but then the Senate with Harry Reid won’t even discuss all of his hard work with a budget. On the other hands he’s a wonderful choice from what I have seen. I have watched Paul Ryan on Fox News and I was favorably impressed as he was quick to answer almost anything asked in a clear manner. Now it is hilarious to think about Joe Biden having to face a formidable speaker like Paul Ryan in a debate. He just might of wet his pants at the thought. Anyway, at least the Vice President does get to preside in the Senate and cast a tie-breaking vote in case it ends up real close. There’s no doubt Paul Ryan is someone who could step in and lead the country if needed. It is great that the Tea Party also likes him. I have had a bit of concern about drawing more of the Hispanic vote, though, namely because there are so many in my area, many of them owning businesses and farms and often quite conservative while Obama tries to draw them. I hope something will be done to reassure those voters. Here in California when one is a Conservative Republican it is frustrating to get your views represented from so many Ultra Liberal weirdos drowning out the many sensible people.

      @ SOYBOMB

From the Blaze.com article you linked to:

“Now, don’t get us wrong: Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) would be an excellent choice if Romney is looking to fire up the conservative base. But he makes our list on the opposite end of “good.”

An incredibly strong fiscal conservative, Rep. Ryan is a leading voice in the war against wasteful government spending, a major proponent of tax and entitlement reform, and he’s an unabashed champion of free market principles. He is also the chair of the House Budget Committee, meaning he is deeply involved in drafting and promoting the Republican Party’s long-term strategies to balance the budget and reduce the deficit.

And this is exactly why we’d hate to see him get the VP nod.

Why would any conservative want to see him give up this incredibly important and influential post for one John Adams correctly referred to as both “laborious” and “wholly insignificant“?

No. Leave Rep. Ryan where he is. He’s needed there.”

You did read the article, didn’t you?

@SOY We all argue about who‘s more of a constitutionaist or who’s a RINO but do you think any politician will ever get us back to STRICTLY adhering to the constitution? I say the only way that happens is if we have a civil war because this government is so huge and way beyond what our founders intended and these politicians are so entrenched and become drunk on power and money
they’ll never do anything to restrain the growth of government, they‘ll simply keep spending until we’re in a depression.

Well i agree we are past the point of no return. I think the government has the tools, weapons, and fools to put down any type of civil war (or secession) that a people could try.

The only scenario i see is a economic collapse brought on by debt, entitlements, and spending. In that scenario there is a chance the federal government would become irrelevant and the power would return to the local levels. I dont know where it goes from there, but i see no other way for the people to take the power back from Washington

      SOY:

You Paul supporters should be pleased. You read the article and I commented on it also. What good does the genius of Ryan do in Congress with a Senate that won’t even vote on it and POTUS that submits one that gets voted down 100-0. . This pick by Romney brings the fiduciary issues facing the country front and center and the choice is clear. It isn’t about whether you like the Ryan budget, but do you like Romney clearly defining the choice facing the USA come November.

      Ryan: Catholic…pro-life
      NRA: Supporter 2nd Amendment
10Th: Amendment…I think it’s clear with the non-sense in Wisconsin he supports States’ rights.
TARP: Needs to explain. My position would be let’s avoid the desperation again. Add the fact he didn’t know the Dems were going to waste it on non-sense.
Bailout: I didn’t like that vote either….secondary to me…GM is failing as I thought it would.
NDAA: “Some have argued that these provisions do not provide adequate protection for Americans and would allow the President to detain American citizens within the United States for an indefinite amount of time if he deems them a “terrorist.” This is not the case”. From his web site. I think you need to be doing more than sitting on your porch with a brew to be considered a terrorist. I’d rather he voted no.

@Inlightofthings, The NDAA does exactly that. There’s really no sugar coating it when the president said it did when he signed the thing. Of course he said he wasn’t going to use it. While drinking beer on the porch won’t make one a terrorist there are other things that are troubling. Loving liberty, buying large items with cash, being a veteran, loving our sovereignty, etc.

That being said, Paul Ryan is probably the least offensive of the folks that sold out our rights for security. Like you said, at least he’s not a gun grabber. He‘s much better than Romney that’s for sure. I do like the fact he’s working the cuts, and reforming entitlements in his budgets though wish they were deeper. Still it’s a step in the right direction. He should shore up the republican base nicely.

The reason The Blaze had Paul Ryan on the worst choice list was because it would take a capable leader out of the House of Representatives where he could do a lot of good; so it was not really anything against Paul Ryan at all, other than he would not get to finish the work he had begun. With the Senate like it is and Harry Reid running it, there‘s no chance for all of the House’s hard work to even come up. Hopefully there will be a change in the Senate, but it is harder to come by than the House. Anyway, Paul Ryan seems to be most capable and admirable from the times I have seen him on Fox News and listened to him speak. I know one thing, he is going to be a very, very formidable and challenging opponent for Joe Biden to face. The Blaze also pointed out that John Adams thought being Vice President was the most useless job imaginable, that it would take a talented person out of his active role in government. However, he would be an asset to Romney and help motivate many conservatives and Tea Party folks with whom I have sympathy. He is definitely someone qualified to act as President as needed, and he would at least preside over the Senate and get to cast any votes if there’s a tie, which could happen.

This election is now going to be about Republicans coming for your Social Security, thanks to Ryan and his “right-wing social engineering”.

      @JohnLarson
Campaigns don’t usually go after the running mates too much. They want to destroy Romney.

Sarah Palin was a different story because McCain was perfectly capable of destroying himself so they didn’t have much work to do there.

      News flash-
There isn’t any social security. It is already gone. Wasted away by the government taping into it for other purposes.

We have been trying to tie Romney to Paul Ryan and House Republicans for months… now it’s easier.

Palin was picked to rile up the base because they were afraid they wouldn’t turn out and they were in trouble for the general, and Romney just picked lil Ayn Rand for the same reason. Both smart moves made in desperation, but both times it won’t work.

SS is solvent until 2037, when it would be only partially not able to pay out all benefits, and this is all assuming now changes are made between now and then, like raising taxes on the rich to support our aging population.

Right-Wing Social Engineering? Oh do you mean making people responsible for their own lives instead of living off their neighbors? Biden is pulling his plugs out worrying about debating Ryan. The best part about Paul Ryan is he doesn’t need a teleprompter to speak.

JOHNLARSON. If I’m not mistaken… Ryan has distanced himself a wee bit from Ayn Rand (and rightly so)… especially where religion and Rand’s epistemological claims are concerned.

This is from The L.A. Times in April. The trust fund that pays for disability benefits for more than 10 million people is projected to run out of money in four years. The Social Security trust fund, which will provide assistance to more than 45 million people in 2012, will be unable under current trends to fulfill its obligations in 2033, three years earlier than projected last year.Medicare, which will provide health insurance to more than 50 million elderly and disabled Americans this year, is expected to start operating in the red in its largest fund in 2024, according to the annual assessment by the trustees charged with overseeing the programs.

Nice try at the Liberal talking points though. Just shows how much the left doesn’t understand Financial management which is why Obama and his Marxist policies have got to go.

Well Romney just got suckered like McCain did. Pick a running mate that is the most right wing you can find, to cover the fact that Romney is a Moderate. Only difference here is Paul Ryan wants to cut medicare and medicaid and make it a voucher program. You just lost Florida. And because Romney was against the bailout of GM., Romney already lost Ohio. Also Neither Romney or Ryan have foreign policy. Should have picked Marco Rubio. at least he would have given you Florida. Now Romney has lost the Latino vote, the Seniors vote, Welcome back Mr. President Barrack Obama.

Yeah Obama had all kinds of Foreign Policy or any other experience huh? Obama was and still is the most unqualified man in any room he is in. Biden was suppose to provide that but as suspected Biden is just another bumbling Liberal with no understanding of anything. Can’t wait for Ryan to hand Biden his a$$ on a plate during their debate. That is if Biden even shows up. He may be busy going back to that restaurant in his hometown that has been closed for 40 years like he claimed in 2008.

Please Biden has more experience in Military and Financial the Trust fund Romney will ever have. And yes Obama had little experience in foreign affairs, but he had Biden.

Ryan is a policy wonk that’s about it, Biden has worked with budgets just like Ryan. spending bills and budgets start in the House yes, but they are made whole and fixed in the Senate.

And BTW Who killed Bin Laden? Who has killed by drone more leaders of AL-Qaeda, who is going to after 10 years end another war? And Which ones pf Romney’s Sons have fought to protect this country? Like Biden’s son has? please. At least Obama And Biden don‘t change they’re policies every other day to get elected like Romney. flip flop flip flop flip flop…. so tired of winning against you no fact Conserva-bots its not even fair…..

To qpwillie: You may be right. Obama threw his own gramma under the bus along with his 20 year mentor, the racist, anti-American Rev. Wright. There are a lot of former Obama family & supporters under that bus. Biden just might be next to join them.
If Biden stands in the way of Obama gaining power and money, Biden will be feeling the pavement soon.

Better educated than Obama? Please Paul Ryan is a Hack. Heritage foundation wrote his budget proposal. Obama was Editor of the Harvard Revue. Ryan got a single degree in University Of Miami in Ohio. Nothing against that university but it has nothing on Harvard, Just ask Mitt Romney. I hope Ryan would know something about Government he has been in it his whole life. spending your money. Doubling the size of Your Government. You now have a Moderate Republican “Romney” and a Big government,Drunken sailor spender in Ryan. Oh yeah they will stop the spending and cut government and won’t start another war with Iran………
