Romney Challenges Student Demanding ‘Free’ Birth Control In Order to be ‘Happy’

Campaigning at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. on Monday, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney got into it with a student who equated “freedom” and “happiness” with getting “free” stuff (such as birth control) from the government.
Watch the confrontation via YouTube:
“You‘re all for like ’yay freedom and all this stuff and yay pursuit of happiness,’” the student said. “You know what would make me happy? Free birth control.”
Wait, true freedom and happiness can be, “like,” found in taxpayer-funded government handouts?
Huh. Whoda’ thunk?
“Let me tell you something, if you‘re looking for free stuff that you don’t have to pay for, vote for the other guy,” Romney responded, “That‘s what he’s all about.”
“Politicians get up and promise you all kinds of free stuff, more and more stuff that you won’t have to pay for and you know what? We get elected that way, in many cases, politicians do, that’s not something I subscribe to,” he added.
Romney went on to say that “sacrifices” would have to be made by everyone.
“The idea that of borrowing a trillion dollars more than we bring in is not just bad economics, it’s immoral,” Romney said to the crowd.

Actually, it’s NOT insurance. Insurance is where you pay premiums into a common pool against risks that are covered under a policy and payments are made when an insured suffers a “loss” — a cost incurred.
Report Post »What we commonly call “insurance” policies in America are really “health care” policies. The example presented shows he difference. The cost that could be insured against would be pregnancy and child birth. If people pooled money as insurance against such costs arising, then it would be true insurance.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 3:45pmThe video TEAPARTYFORROMNEY posted in response to your animation is the true story of the Healthcare Plan. I lived in Massachusetts when Romney was governor and the healthplan was a definite plus for doctors, employees and employers. Most people don’t realize what was happening in Massachusetts when Gov. Romney took over. The state pension had lost a lot of money due to poor management, companies were leaving because healthcare was so expensive. The company that I worked at change healthcare plans 3 times in 3 years. When I started my own business in 2002 – I paid over $600/month for health insurance. Doctors were also leaving Massachusetts because they couldn’t afford their own malpractice insurance premiums….and why? Because there were too many people free loading the system and suing doctors. Fine medical care and research are one of the largest employers in Massachusetts. They have some of the finest hospitals in the world, let alone the United States….The real burden of this fiasco was the small business owners. They had to pay a fortune just to give insurance to their employees. Something had to be done. So this plan is what Mitt Romney drew up by bringing all the entities together and come up with a solution. Was it perfect, no; did something need to be done; yes. Each state has its own set of problems – I like Romney’s idea to let each state come up with its own plan.

“Romney went on to say that “sacrifices” would have to be made by everyone.”
Remember Mondale?
“If this administration has a plan for a better future, they’re keeping it a secret.
Here is the truth about the future: We are living on borrowed money and borrowed time. These deficits hike interest rates, clobber exports, stunt investment, kill jobs, undermine growth, cheat our kids, and shrink our future.
Whoever is inaugurated in January, the American people will have to pay Mr. Reagan’s bills. The budget will be squeezed. Taxes will go up. And anyone who says they won’t is not telling the truth to the American people.
I mean business. By the end of my first term, I will reduce the Reagan budget deficit by two-thirds.
Let’s tell the truth. It must be done, it must be done. Mr. Reagan will raise taxes, and so will I. He won’t tell you. I just did. ”
1984 Walter Mondale’s acceptance speech for Democratic nominee for El Dictato… ah… President.
Dems heard that and fainted… Reagan got the next 4 years (not that I’m complaining). Sadly, we all need this wake up call again but NO ONE is going to accept it, and the lazy will still get their handouts.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 2:30pmI always love your posts man… I would only change one thing; instead of lazy, call them unproductive. You need to include people who paid their time earlier (IE senior citizens) who plan on collecting money will providing no service or product for society. Social Security and Medicaid are the biggest lies that both Repubs and Dems refuse to address. People have not saved for their future and plan on retiring on the masses dime. When 33% of the country will be collecting these benefits with only 50% paying into it, we are screwed.
They are not necessary lazy, but will be unproductive. Meaning they will not be adding to the GDP and thus be a burden to the productive members of society. Unless we, as a nation. face this reality; we will end up having to force people to die early and pick and choose services. It is best to stop it now and have many baby boomers commence working without the benefits and allow their children and grandchildren to have a bright future.
Instead what is is proposed is kicking the bucket to the young for them to deal with. As long as it is not the baby boomers (who most were the hippie crowd), which will deliver tons of votes. It may be mean, but unless you make something or productive, should you make a wage? Should you pay for your lack of personal sacrifice to invest in your own future (IE baby boomers)? If you did and have a nest egg, then by means retire on your dime.

When the money runs out it won;t matter who is in power for that will be too late. Soverignty will be lost forever at that point. The UN Agenda 21 Globalists are banking on the “folks” that have willingly or not buried thier collective heads in the sand, gone to sleep at the wheel which would allow them through the IMF and other glbal agencies to dictate terms to the USA, a prospect which they have been working towards for decades. The Enviro movement although it has some dedicated enviro activists that walk the walk are part and parcel to the overall fiction that the West must de industrialize so the planet will not suffer some man made catastrophe. While they promote that ideal they look the other way at the true threat to the Globe a rapidly developing thrid world that has no pollution controls whatsoever. The whole “carbon credit” scam is just another fanciful scheme (albeit brilliant in concept) for fleecing folks of money so that money can then be redistrobuted to those “they deem” deserving of the wealth. Global elites are nothing more than the resurection of the old Euro Aristocratic “system”. They paid into a lie that was meant to bankrupt the system. So tell my why their kids should suffer for their selfish behavior that is unsustainable. We are talking $100 trillion of unfunded liabilities.
$100,000 million dollars over the next 20 years. How do you propose we pay for the commits made on poor governing? Tax the rich? Not enough… Tax 60-70% of what everyone under 40 makes? There will be 1 collect for every 2 working, not the 1 for every 16 working like when first adopted. Top that with rising gas prices and inflation. How do you expect the children to live and provide for their families?
Already Medicare benefactors draw of $400,000 when they paid only $150,000 in. They did not pay for all their coverage. And the when Social Security was adopted it was based on 2 years of life expectancy. People are living to 70, 80, 90 years old. Within three years a senior draws more than they even put in.
Until you can cover those gaps, it is you that need to find a solution if you want to keep it. Else, your selling everyone’s freedoms for selfish expectation of the government guarantying the quality of life. Quality of living can only determined on the productivity of the individual and their individual drive to succeed. otherwise, your are breaking the system and creating a void of productivity.

You need realistic numbers… 45 years of paying in at 6 1/2% (plus 6 1/2% on the employer). Then factor inflation, which happens even after they start collecting. The numbers will never add up to a balance.
The average monthly Social Security of a retired worker is $1,230.
In the 1960s the average put in was $280 a year. Two months of checks wipes over 10 years of payments. You need to realize the money was never invested, save $2 trillion in bonds. Please do the math.
Report Post »JohnnyMidknight
Posted on March 21, 2012 at 9:43amSorry for the error, but $100 Trillion is $100,000,000 million.
Oh and look at this:
http://endoftheamericandream.com/archives/in-2011-the-baby-boomers-start-to-turn-65-16-statistics-about-the-coming-retirement-crisis-that-will-drop-your-jaw
#13 In 1950, each retiree’s Social Security benefit was paid for by 16 U.S. workers. In 2010, each retiree’s Social Security benefit is paid for by approximately 3.3 U.S. workers. By 2025, it is projected that there will be approximately two U.S. workers for each retiree. How in the world can the system possibly continue to function properly with numbers like that?
#14 According to a recent U.S. government report, soaring interest costs on the U.S. national debt plus rapidly escalating spending on entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare will absorb approximately 92 cents of every single dollar of federal revenue by the year 2019. That is before a single dollar is spent on anything else.
#15 After analyzing Congressional Budget Office data, Boston University economics professor Laurence J. Kotlikoff concluded that the U.S. government is facing a “fiscal gap” of $202 trillion dollars. A big chunk of that is made up of future obligations to Social Security and Medicare recipients.
Now…. about 130 million workers exist:
Report Post »http://unemploymentdata.com/charts/current-employment-data/
JohnnyMidknight
Posted on March 21, 2012 at 10:07amAlso look at:
http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2011/08/21/Social-Security-Trust-Fund-Could-Run-Dry-by-2017.aspx#page1
Now, that means 71 million collecting $1230 a month (providing no inflation). That is $87,330 million a month, or $1,047,960 million a year. That is $1 trillion. Now adjust for inflation at 3% (which is the past rate and in no way accounts for current inflation which is skyrocketing – just look at prices) and you get $1,837,604 million. No at your 20-30 years collecting, let’s say the 71 million people collecting lasts for 15 years (as they will be collecting medicaid and be getting the most care available). $27,564,063 million in payouts during that time. Note this does not count that social security is already drawing $45 billion more in benefits than it takes in. So you need to add up the 15 years of unfunded liabilities until the 71 million threshold is hit. With each year seeking more and more collecting and a larger gap.
Even if the 40% of baby boomers, that plan to still work until they drop, do; they will be collecting. Now 130 million workers are making a national average wage index of $41,673.83, which is about $5,417,597 million. $10,078,327 million when you factor inflation. The social benefits will equal 20% of the combine wage of workers. Note, rich don’t pay much into social security as you are only taxed about the first $100,000 you make and not the full amount. So a 6% rate will not hold.
Report Post »JohnnyMidknight
Posted on March 21, 2012 at 10:17amSo, the worker will pay 20% for social security. That is on top of the 20-25% in federal income tax. On top of the currently 6.5% medicaid (which will raise to about 15-20%…. This is without state income tax. The average worker will have to pay 60-70% of all income to pay for the retiring baby boomers and their entitlements.
Now, it is either that or cut the freeloading out and force 100% to work until they drop like 40% will continue doing anyway. It is unsustainable. It is a pyramid scheme. It was a bad investment on behalf of the baby boomers, which will compound as their stocks take a hit from hyper inflation and the collapse of the US dollar. As if you do not tax for the money, government will have to print it. The problem is the dollar is no longer backed by anything but faith (IE In God We Trust). No gold, no silver… not even oil.
I wonder what life would be like with bread at $10,000,000. Don’t think it will happen? Look at the Wiemar Republic and Zimbabwe.
Ever see a $100 Trillion dollar bill? Here you go:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Zimbabwe_$100_trillion_2009_Obverse.jpg
You will never escape the model of supply and demand. The model demands productivity in order to sustain the numbers. In fact, all societies do. Communist, Socialist, Capitalist. You produce or you die. That is why all Socialist states end up fascist, like communist ones. On in capitalism does freedom decide winners and losers.

No, no, no. She’s a courageous American. Obama’s probably dialing her up as we speak.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 1:50pmYou know there are times when I think “wow, Romney actually has a backbone and might make a good PoTUS (vs. just a stop gap, not Obama Pres.). Of course, then there are the times he plays to occupy and talks about taxing the 1%. That‘s when I cringe because you just don’t know for sure where the guy stands.
Even though I don’t agree with everything Rick says; I’m pretty darn sure that when he states a position, that’s exactly where is stance is. It‘s not that I don’t like Romney somewhat because I’d vote for him in a heartbeat over O but trying to pin him down to a stance is like shadow boxing blindfolded with the sun directly over head.

Wow. Free birth control is pursuit of happiness. Has this person ever read the constitution? Schools are producing idiots. I’m worried about my son going to college. I can’t afford one of those private schools from the top ten conservative colleges – what sort of idoicy is being taught to these young folks? They have no hope for happiness if they think they can only get it from gov’t handouts. Trust me, the folks I know getting gov’t handouts are not happy from getting them. Because living off of just gov’t handouts is an awful, oppressed life.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 1:42pmWay to go, Romney! I mean, I‘ve accepted you’re going to win the nomination, but even if you weren’t going to, I applaud you for yet again, saying the right thing. I pray that you mean it!
Now please, oh please, retract your statements in the past, about being ‘Progressive!‘ If you don’t do that, and MEAN IT, we have a problem! Also, will you PLEASE go on Glenn Beck’s TV Show on GBTV?

How is he going to pivot when his bud santorum screws up again and looses, after all the things he says about Mitt?
Report Post »Glenn and Pat should know better! They never call santorum out on his dumb statements. They never ask santorum to talk about the ministers who introduce him who say awful things about Romney, while introducing santorum.

Posted on March 20, 2012 at 1:50pmSorry, in some ways, blame the parents for always giving jr what they wanted. All that was taught, someone else will provide for you. Most of us had to work to get a car. Now days, jr expects you to buy his first car. This teaches nothing of responsibility. And when jr gets in trouble, you come to his defense only to find out your own kid turned out a product of mom and dad. We all want our kids better than we, however, they need to learn the lessons of responsibility. What I see, is they have none. Sort of like the guy at an all you can eat buffet, with a plate piled up a foot, requesting a diet coloa……they are a product of todays parents…not always their peers, parents have the most influence.
