Romney Edges Out Paul in Close Maine Republican Caucuses, Santorum Third

Romney Wins Maine GOP Caucuses, Paul Second, Santorum Third

(The Blaze/AP) — Mitt Romney eked out a narrow win in Maine’s Republican caucuses, state party officials announced Saturday, providing his campaign a much-needed boost after three straight losses earlier this week. But the former Massachusetts governor‘s margin of victory over rival Ron Paul was so slim it all but guaranteed scrutiny of the party’s decision not to count the results of caucuses scheduled later in February.

At a state party gathering in Portland, state Republican Chairman Charlie Webster announced Romney had won with 2,190 votes compared to 1,996 for Paul, the only other candidate to aggressively compete in the state. Rick Santorum received 989 votes and Newt Gingrich won 349, but neither actively campaigned there.

Webster said any caucus results that come in after Saturday wouldn’t be counted no matter how close the vote turned out to be.

Maine’s caucuses began February 4 and continued throughout the week. But the results announced Saturday accounted for just 83 percent of all precincts in the state. Several communities elected to hold their caucuses at a later date.

Caucuses in Washington County scheduled Saturday were postponed until February 18 because of a major snowstorm that blanketed the region. Earlier, the state party’s Executive Director Michael Quatrano said county officials were told the results would not count toward the total.

    Rick Sanitarium is the the only candidate who can challenge President Obama in the 2012 election. For one, he’s not a member of some fringe religious group like Rastafarianism or Buddhism or whatever fringe group that Romney gives fealty to. We know Rick report to the Pope, who is a known. But who knows what Deity Romney reports to and receives messages from as far as what is best for the world and stuff?

    Besides, have you noticed you don’t have a clue what Romney stands for, not if you look at his history anyway. Whatever his latest speech says, you can find another past speech where he said the opposite.

    If American‘s don’t vote for Sanitarium, I think I’m just gonna puke.

      JZS a couple of questions for you…

      1. If Jesus tells us to call no man father except our Father in heaven, why does Santorum’s pope have the title of Holy Father…?

      2. If Jesus tells us that no man can absolve sin, why does Santorum’s pope perpetuate the lie that priests can absolve sin? Scripture tells us that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin….. the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

      The churches of men ( most but not all) are apostate because they refuse to teach the Truth of God. There is only one Bride of Christ.

      @Blazers…. Dont you LOVE how these so called “caucus results” are actually a seperate POLL!? Did you people not watch the announcement in Maine!? This is a total BOGUS UNOFFICIAL POLL that are NOT the caucus results. The final results will not by announced or configured until 2mrw!!!

      UNOFFICAL POLL of a sample size of about 8,000 people DOES NOT speak for a whole state! This should be OBVIOUS BIAS PROPAGANDA from the MSM. They report UNOFFICIAL POLL results as OFFICIAL numbers!

      I see you don’t understand the Catholic religion. I suspect you don’t understand most of the other religions under the cristian faith besides your own either, but I can’t say for certain.

      Here’s a clue:

      1) The Pope is not called “Father”. You even showed that in your comment (funny how people can answer their own question. He is the historical representative of the structure Jesus used. As Jesus IS God (via the trinity) and the Pope is the direct representations, the term “Holy Father” is an honorific, much like it is when you can somebody “Doctor Somebody” or “Mrs. Somebody”. Though, under your logic, your biologican Daddy can’t be called “father” either… so much for honoring him aside your mother.

      2) Priests in the Catholic Chirch can’t absolve sin, so you are correct. The Pope doen’t say that they can. In the Catholic religion the priests help open a path of communication and aid in the sinner’s realization of their sin. Think of it like a psychiatrist. It isn’t the “Doctor” that heals the ills. The patient has to do the work. In this case, by praying for forgiveness.

      You have got to be kidding me it‘s been proven that ron paul when it’s all said and done is the only one that can beat obama, he’s the only one who brings in liberals and independents out of all the gop candidates! The only reason he hasn’t won a contest yet is because of massive voter fraud done by gop establishment ( which has been blatant, proven, video taped (in nevada, and other states) and even admitted to in maine as stated in the article above)

      Catholic churches have confessional booths. Who do people confess to?

      Most of my family are catholic except for our family. A member of my extended family needed a divorce, and of course they could get their annulment for a price. Pay this amount (in the thousands of dollars) to the “church” and everything will be as if you were never married.
      I have nothing good to say about this blasphemous “church”. they tried to hide their pedophile priests who prey on the innocent ….until, that is, they were found out.

      The obama machine is going to be in full swing come summer and we will not win. Rick cannot debate this man. Alan keyes may be one of the best conservative minds in the nation and Obama destroyed him by 50 points. He does his jedi mind trick on the idiots and they buy it because they want to believe him. just think of all the stuff even hilary could not get to stick to him and she is a great politician with very little baggage and a very important female moderate and left vote.

      Rick will get beat, romney will get destroyed, Ron Paul will look like a fool against this guy. That leaves Newt the only one that can out debate this guy by a long shot. Rick is going to lose anyone near the middle. he is doing ok because Americans distrust Romney. Between his flip flops and being a mormon he will not get a majority vote. Ron paul all you have to know is 1 bill in 20 +years and you know he ain’t gonna win.
      I think that the republican establishment knows this so they threw their B team out there, But Newt is the wild card of maybe.

      This is voter fraud clear and simple. The GOP is denying 17% of Maine voters their Constitutional right to be a part of the election process. The told Washington County they were not allowed to caucus and rescheduled it for the 18th, then afterwards they told Washington County that their votes won’t count.
      On Friday, the GOP also set up 4 new caucus sights giving the people of Maine no notice expect via the GOP website. How many people do you think really read the Maine GOP site?
      The Iowa GOP losing ballots in 8 counties.
      The Nevada GOP didn’t count all the votes from Clark County.
      Now the Maine GOP denies people their Constitutional right.
      Notice a recurring theme? The GOP are frauds! They are no better than the DNC and just as insidious.
      The GOP is doing everything in its power to have Obummer get a second term.
      I just hope some of the good people from Maine take this to the election board and FIGHT IT! If I lived in Maine I would be leading the charge.
      The GOP in Iowa, Nevada and Maine need to be tried for treason.

      Flipper, Darn it. I got that song stuck in my head again. Yes, the problem is not Republicans or Democrats (there are actually some good ideas from Democrats) but is more insidious and is in both parties, progressives. Both Bushes were progressives, Clintons are progressives, Obama is a progressive. They are all the same just different degrees. Romney, Santorum and Gingrich, all progressives in different degrees. I do admit that Santorumm is the lower degree progressive, but a progressive is a progressive. He believes in big government. Paul is the only one who truly believes in Constitutional principles and that the people should be in control. This is why the establishment is against him so much. He will take their power and give it back to the people.

      Reg, Sorry you have had a rough time with some of Pauls supporters, but we ar passionate about the direction of our country. We have had only two families in power positions in Wash. for over three decades with the Bush and Clinton families and their friends. I am tired of going for the same old establishment pick I could scream. The people have been crying out about all the corruption in Washington for years, but it seems nobody wants to do anything about it. Everyone just seems to be fine with who the establishment picks whilwe they blackout the only one who is uncorrupted. I just do not get it.

If not for Florida how many delegates would the slithering Mitt have acquired? And the establishment still wants us to believe he’s the front runner only in the GOP establishment minds. I watched from Thursday to Saturday with the finale of Sarah Palin”s speech and yet all I ever hear is she is irrelevant really? In fact Mitt Romney wasn’t welcome warmly if you watched it but yet they rigged this to say he won the straw poll seriously. All I can say is America has woken up but not enough at this point my question is why not? As far as our current House Speaker I say shut the government down if necessary, oh wait someone else did that did they not. Americans both John and Mitch need to be shown the door as well is the current White House occupant the next election.

      West Coast that’s what scares me Bush senior and Jeb are backing Mitt Romney why? I guess it is most people don’t have the fortitude to actually do any research, they treat it like going into the grocery store and picking out their favorite candy bar. I really believe that a brokered convention is on the horizon and if Sarah Palin happens to enter the race because of this my vote would go for her if not and it was between Mitt Romney or Ron Paul and Dr. Paul would receive my vote. I do have issues with Dr. Paul but I have more with Mitt Romney and the GOP establishment. Sarah Palin gave a warning to these people today but as we can see from the state of Maine they are unwilling to listen to the people of this country and the people that back their party. what people don‘t understand what is for our future not only affects Republicans but libertarians and Democrats as well and I surely hope some education can be brought to these people before it’s too late.

      His best chance at winning a state was Maine and in a 1 on 1 battle with Mitt he couldn’t even pull that one out.

      @VeryseniorCitizen in 2008 Maine also had low turnout. But this year the Maine GOP stopped the caucuses with only 83% of the venues participating. There is huge voter fraud being perpetrated by the Maine GOP as they are not allowing all the citizens votes to count. They even told one ounty they weren’t allowed to caucus on the 11th , rescheduled their caucus date, then afterwards told them their votes won’t count because they just made up a new rule that all caucusing must end on the 11th.

      There needs to be a revolt started by We the People Republican party members to stop the RNC from this continual voter fraud.

Mitt is a very strong candidate and is still leading in the polls…. even after Sarah Palin talks out of both sides of her mouth…. with one side she says… “We need to get behind ALL our Republican candidates” and then out of her other side says…”It’s too late to change to conservative” as ANOTHER dig agains Mitt Romney!!!!

      No way in hell does he win the the nomination.

So much for mormon values, this whole campaign went south when he and his super pacs sent a barrage of negative ads on newt in Iowa. The dems are loving every minute of this if he wins were gonna lose by 20%

      She had one of the great voices. She had the talent to spare and was gorgeous besides. She didn‘t need the money I’m sure, but could have pursued her every love, until old age, something most of us envy. I hope depression and self-medication didn’t end her life. That would be so horribly sad.

      My regret about here career was that she never did a duet with Dolly Parton of “I will always love you.” Still, we will always love you Whitney. is only viable Republican option to take on President Obama in general election. He’s against gays, contraception and is really religious and a member of a mainstream religion, not like, say Buddism or Rastafarianism or whatever fringe religios cult is Romney beholden to.

      If they couldn‘t win on 1st ballot they’re not going to win an open ballot.

    Looks more and more like we are heading toward a brokered convention and that will be good for Paul. His supporters have been filling up delegate positions all over the country because of good organization and understanding the process better than most. He will be a force to be reckoned with at a brokered convention as the delegates are not bound by the so-called winner of their state, even the hard delegates, which I suspect are already loaded with Paul supporters. I am hoping for a convention of this type as our country is in need of a true election that cannot be swayed by the establishments money. Go Ron Paul, Go Santorum, Go Gingrich, keep getting those votes and help keep Mitt from getting the 1144 delegates before the convention.

      Romney won a neighboring (almost – 27 mi.) state.
      The establishment Republicans would do anything to stop Paul – he wants to end their game.

      That Paul showed so well in Maine means they need to resort to more drastic means.
      CPAC went for Romney – the least conservative candidate?

      Romney is a weak candidate, but to an establishment Republican, he (or Obama) are better than Paul because Paul would ruin their sweat scam.

      Romney won a neighboring stat – it means almost nothing – watch how the MSM and the REPUBLICANS play it.

      I like closing the 900 + foreign bases.
      I like bringing the troops home – if I thought we had a devastating response to an attack one us.
      But, since it is an abrupt change, it will make him politically vulnerable.

      Paul’s foreign philosophy is probably not bad. To go from where we are to where he wants to be is not immediately doable with the Congress working against him. He will take negatives and not be able to do want he took the hits for. It will take years to implement his foreign policy, but the price come do before the election in sophistry based politics.

      Ty for the response.

      Well first off, we are broke. We are borrowing money from China to pay for a base in Australia to protect them from the Chinese. That is absurd.

      Now granted we feel a degree of safety with the bases abroad, but as we could see on GBTV and the blaze the war is coming to our country. Those bases arent keeping us safe from the only real threats we have. No army, not even many countries combine could launch a real war against us. Our only threat is from within. Terrorist tactics have been used to take away our freedoms. You can see it with the Patriot Act and NDAA. That is the only way we lose.

      Now you can say “how do we respond to a crisis happens” well we have 11 carrier battle groups. Each one has enough firepower to wipe out most of civilization. The next closest country to us in carrier battle groups is none. No one else has them. These groups can sit off a coast and launch planes that are unmatched in the world and or launch cruise and nuclear missiles. The Aegis destroyers keep the fleet protected from incoming attacks.

      On to the budget cuts. Well under Dr. Paul many cuts would be made. But none of them would be on defense. We would still spend 4 times the next closest country on our military.

      If we keep the spending we are on we have 100% chance of our country collapsing. Dr. Paul’s plan gives us a chance. No other candidate is even cutting money, they only cut future increases.

      a. The Chinese could defeat any army in the world with sharpened sticks. They could run them out of bullets, and stab them to death. They have 1.7 billion people. If their casualties were equal to the entire population of the US, China would be stronger – they are socialist. If their population decreased there would be fewer people to feed.
      b. The Patriot Act and the NDAA are totalitarian and must be erased.
      c. China has one, but carrier groups are not as good as land bases. Carrier Groups are for projecting power. We may need them. But if someone were to attack this country the carriers would not be the deterrent. The bases here would be their concern. Unfortunately, we have liberals. Any enemy could count on them arguing against our defending ourselves. That would encourage them to attack, and limit our response.

      Buck, the problem with our country is not liberals, it is progressives on both sides of the aisle. I was in the Navy and I can tell you that we could take on anyone with everything we have. China would have to get their people here and they could not without us stopping them with our Navy. We have subs that have enough nukes on them to destroy the world. We have an unmanned jet bomb that can be launched from our mainland and hit anywhere in the world within one hour with whatever type of warhead we want on it. We would be able to stave off any country to allow us plenty of time to get our troops there, if needed, and we would have their infrustructure in such a mess that they would not be able to stop us.

      That is how you do war when it is declared and done Constitutionally. There is no need to have troops all over the world, it stretches our manpower too thin.

      Actually, we don’t have that system. Two of three tests failed. We will have it, but we don’t.
      It does not carry a warhead. It is a kinetic impact weapon.

The ramp deck limits most modern planes from even using it. China is in the process of building two carriers but they are still years away from completion.

      a. Is correct – unless you need to take ground.
      b. Ronald Reagan is my candidate. Carter was so bad he forced people to elect someone who was not an establishment Republican. This guy is as bad as Carter, but I don’t see a Reagan in the mix. If Romney or Gingrich is the Republican Candidate, then I’m not a Republican, and they cannot count on my vote. I could hold my nose and vote for Santorum, even though he endorsed Arlin Sphincter. I could vote for Paul.

      Buck, You will never find a candidate that you agree with 100% but from what you described, Paul is your pick. As far as Iran and a nuke, the only way to guarantee that is to untie Isreals hands by standing by their decision to protect themselves. If we do that, and Paul is the only one that says he would, they would ensure Iran does not get that capability. The U.S. does not need to hold their hand in these issues as Isreal has the fourth strongest military in the world, behind the U.S., Russia and China. He is not weak on National Defense as he says that is the main function of the federal government under the Constitution.

      I disagree. The 101st and 82nd airborne could take Iran’s oilfields almost without a shot being fired. It would be elite solders against people with pipe wrenches.
      The Marines could insure logistics.
      Iran could not take them back. They would need tanks to do it, and tanks cannot exist without air superiority; one A-10 can kill 18 tank on one sortie.
      Without is oil income, Iran, a country that produces almost nothing, will have a choice: starve, or convince us they are not, and will not be, our problem.

      I am for the candidate who has proven (over his lifetime) an uncanny ability to turn things around, be it his LDS mission (after nearly dying in the accident that killed his mission president’s wife), companies like Staples and Dominoes, his former company Bain & Co. (which he turned around from near bankruptcy to success within two years), and more.

      Yes, I am Mormon like he is. Harry Reid is Mormon, too, and so is Jon Huntsman, but I’m not voting for either of them….

      You sir are out of line. You lie intentionally. Romney is not pro-women’s choice. He is not anti-gun, he doesn’t want more war, but he will protect our interestes and allies, no one can end the fed, he will not raise taxes, but require those who do not pay taxes to step up, and yes, minimum wage should have incremental increases to keep it from being used as slave wages (two adults on minimum wage cannot support a family of three). He is not Ron Paul, he is better. You just want to warp the truth to fit your agenda. The good news is, many of us have done our homework and we know that Romney will do a fine job of turning things around. His life is proof of that.

      You call me a liar yet I have proven using video of Romney in his own words saying he is for those things. You can say he will be for or against something now, but if he was really for something and had a backbone he wouldnt be changing his mind on the positions he has had. His voting record has shown he will raise taxes.

      Oh and if he was a good candidate with his looks, the way he talks, money, and how long he has been running for president this race would already be over.

      Reasons people will not vote for Romney.

      1. He flip flops positions to suit the race. Shows he has very little backbone and stands for nothing.
      2. Romneycare. Just saying that name should be enough to keep him from even being thought of as a president.
      3. He is a self proclaimed progressive. Look it up, there is video of it.
      4. He is a Mormon. Say what you want, alot people feel that Mormons arent Christian. Save your Obama isnt one stuff, I didnt vote for him, and wont vote for him either.

    You might want to factor in such a thing as voter apathy or perhaps the fact that New England is a haven for the Obama 2nd term.

    At this point, I don’t really care who your Republican candidate is – you’d better be wary of a less than 6.000 vote total in Maine determining the candidate. Evidently, the independents are staying home.

    If the turnout is no better than this – I’d say GOP beware.

      I see your point but Maine hasnt voted Republican in a presidential contest since 1988. Other then Fla it seems that Romeny is a pro in blue states, and while I like Paul more then Romney he seems to get his best number where Dems have a lock in a general. Its pretty much established Paul votes under 30 voted Obama last time and will probably do it again. I hope young Paul voters protest in a general because that will be a loss for Obama not the republican in most cases. Ron Paul needs to keep pulling those Snoop Dogg endorsements his way.

      Washington County postponed their caucuses because of the snow. Ron Paul had a large organization coming up in those Countys. Now they are going to post pone until this saturday, but not count it. To me, that is a form of vote fraud. What would you do, if they canceled on you and said your vote doesn’t count?

      With all due respect, I feel like a lot of you just don’t seem to get it. You must understand, you can put Romney up there. You can put Gingrich up there. You can put Santorum up there. NONE of them can win against Obama without Ron Paul and his supporters. If there is an “anybody but Obama” strategy within the Republican party, why don’t you just nominate Ron Paul? He is the only guy who can truly beat Obama. He can take away Obama’s anti-war vote. Paul can take away Obama’s youth vote. Paul can take away more independents from him than any other GOP candidate. Lets also take a look at the GOP primaries so far. If you haven’t noticed, Dr. Paul gets a ton of votes from Dems and Indy’s, along with conservatives/libertarians. Yet, the media tells you that he is unelectable! That doesn’t even make any sense. I am just telling all of you the truth since you don’t quite seem to get it yet…NO ONE BUT PAUL!

      You nominate any other candidate for the GOP and you will LOSE!

      Newt and Santorum hate Ron Paul, so there‘s no way he’d be in either of their administrations. But Romney…as liberal as he was as Governor of MA, he seems to like Congressman Paul. I like the idea of Rand as VP and Ron overseeing the Treasury or the Fed. One thing you’ve gotta say for Romney, all his liberalism has been on the state level. He could be a very conserative president if he would just throw up his hands and say, “Ya know what, I‘m vetoing this bill because the states should decide this issue even though on the state level I’m a big friggin liberal.” That simple phrase would make him one of the most conservative presidents the country has had. What are Santorum and Gingrich’s excuses for their big government tendencies on the federal level? Their records are more damning than Romney’s because both guys have accepted the premise that the federal government should be massive and their voting records back that up.

      It‘s great that in 4 years the Republican party has bolted in Ron Paul’s direction. No longer is he a punchline. The pundits have to take him and his ideology seriously. No longer can they dismiss his supporters as fringe kooks. A lot of mainstream conservative Republicans support him. Talk radio can only call him names for so long before they’ve alienated and lost their entire audience. Democrats and Independents like him as well. Looking for hope and change, a great uniter? If anyone can be that guy it’s Ron Paul.

      Gingrich and Santorum are not on ballots for 565 delegates. It is going to be very hard for either to get enough delegates for a win. By staying in, it will give us a chance at a brokered convention which would be good for Ron Paul. Paul supporters are getting in as delegates across the country and that is what will be needed if the a brokered convention happens. The other side of a brokered convention is that someone like Sarah Palin could throw her hat in the ring at the convention and possibly get the nomination as delegates are not committed to the primary wins by candidates. It will be a very interesting primary any way it goes.

      This will be wide open til the convention. Gingrich will be the next to drop out. His big donors have cut their funds. Paul will take it to the convention if for nothing else to some of his platform in the mix.
      I don’t like Romney, not sure on Santorum either. Still open to Paul as his caucus goers are being voted in as delegates, more so than the straw vote indicates.

      Some of you people are so die hard Paul haters that you discount his second place finish today, possibly a win after all votes are counted. Does not matter if the GOP refuses to count them, we will know. Paul is still there with a chance. Pray for a brokered convention. If not, you guys will miss out on the Paul supporters for your chosen establishment candidate unless of course your candidate makes the right choices for Paul and his supporters. I have a hard time believing that Romneycare will want Paul on as Treasury Secretary as Paul would battle for keeping him from spending money. We will see.     Maine is liberal to the point of having the most left-leaning (R) Senators in the country. Its east to see why Romney won. Why the Mainers don’t see the danger from the Progressive-Communist agenda is, I believe, due to geographics.
    Like Vermont, they don’t often lock their doors when away. Try that in NJ or any city in the Northeast. They will never admit that it is because their area is inhabited overwhelmingly by Whites.
    The facts are sometimes inconvient.
    My daughter lives there now. She has a good friend (White lady) who is a staunch Demo. You can’t even talk politics to her. Don’t dare talk down Obama. My daughter doesn’t go there because she likes her friend.
    My point is….its not surprising Romney won in Maine.

      What did they say their reason was? Inclement weather? Who does inclement weather help? Ron Paul….that was all the talk leading up to Iowa, that if there was a blizzard Ron Paul would win. So, if you have a little bit of weather there in Maine, shut ‘er down, can’t have Paul winning. What the media conveniently ignores is that the straw poll is a beauty pageant. It’s worth zero other than some publicity. It’s the delegates that count and if I were a betting man, I’d say Ron Paul is going to win the national delegates from Minnesota, Colorado, Iowa, Nevada, and Maine and just about every other caucus state. His supporters are the most knowledgeable and passionate, they also are good at just showing up and knowing the rules. For a bunch of lunatics, freaks and kooks, they sure are a lot smarter than the supporters of the other three candidates.
