Romney Explains Why He Compared Gingrich‘s Campaign to ’I Love Lucy’

Republican presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney continue to spar as the Iowa caucus inches closer. On Tuesday, Romney decided to poke fun at the Gingrich campaign, which endured criticism over poor organization numerous times in the past.

Speaking specifically about Gingrich’s inability to qualify for the Virginia ballot — a blip Gingrich’s campaign director compared to Pearl Harbor — Romney came up with another analogy.

“I think he compared that to Pearl Harbor? I think it’s more like Lucille Ball at the chocolate factory. You’ve got to get it organized,” he joked, while speaking with reporters in New Hampshire:

Here, Romney was clearly referring to the famed scene in which Lucille Ball was struggling to package chocolates. The presidential candidate appeared on Fox & Friends, where he addressed his swipe at Gingrich. ”When I see mistakes, I try and find a little humor,” he said.

In his Fox interview, he went on to explain his “I Love Lucy” analogy. “You may remember that sketch where chocolates were coming out of the machine faster than she could stuff them in the boxes…and she started stuffing them in her face,” Romney said. “It’s such a classic scene. Those of us who have gotten a little behind can identify with poor Lucy.”

While Gingrich didn‘t appreciate Romney’s initial comparison, Romney dismissed his comments as mere humor. Watch the interview, below:

ROMNEY is well-organized and plans ahead.

If he were the president today, there would not be any “cramming” on the two month extension of payroll tax cuts. He would have probably dealt with the problem three months before it expired.

I believe ROMNEY will be a blessing to this country. IF HE COULD MANAGE HIS OWN PERSONAL FINANCES WELL, WE CAN TRUST HIM TO BE CAPABLE OF MANAGING THE NATION’S ECONOMY.

Last presidential election, we failed to investigate the personal economy of Obama. We just accepted his promises of economic recovery hook line and sinker even if he was lacking in business and economic credentials.

I pray that WE THE PEOPLE will be wiser in choosing their president this coming election.

Ya know, most of you commentors make me sick. You love to speak in total absolutes, like you are god or something. Well here is an absolute for you–Obama had just about ruined this nation in the last three years. Here’s another one–if we don’t remove him in the next election we will be in trouble for GENERATIONS to come–we really already are. Here’s the last one–ANY candidate that speaks in total absolutes in all things will make a terrible, one term, president. That is Paul’s biggest problem–I know you paulbots will call it a strength–But if he can’t get congress to go along with any of the reforms he wants he will be the most ineffectual president we have had, this side of Gerald Ford. Paul has proven to be an agitator, outsider and non-partisan politician–not necessarily a bad thing for a Sen. or Rep., but a terrible thing for a president. I don’t know anyone who has worked WITH Paul, or Gingrich for that matter, that would like to see them as president. They know the type of trouble that type of personality brings. So, Instead of using this comment page to vent rants, try and make reasonable and rational commentary. Your cause/candidate will certainly benefit more from it.

I may have to correct my last post. Looks like Santorum’s support in Iowa has just tripled since the beginning of the month, according to CNN. Ron Paul is a nut and people are seeing that, his support is going down. If he can win in the top three candidates in Iowa, Santorum is in for the long run.

So lets get rid of Paul, the nut, and support Santorum. He can win this. Just look at how much his support has increased already over the last month.

(and I’m only 37) A Romney win will reinforce the false notion that only a pink – o moderate can win the election. Bye Bye conservative presidency forever! Because fiscal responsibility, Consistent turn-around success for Government and Private organizations, and a stable marriage are hardly the hallmarks of conservatism. Romney=Rino because he is an unrepentant flip flopper who dares to call a spade a spade and gently roast his competitor for failing to show up to the race.

No, being a conservative means being born with the right opinion and never deviating from it, oh wait, that leaves out Gingrich and Perry, or being a fringe fanatic isolationist who believes the entire system needs to be scrapped, regardless of collateral damage, which leaves you with only one vote, Paul. And if it can’t be Paul it might as well be Obama again, cause there ain’t no way in Hades you will cast your vote for anyone else. Can’t wait to see what your opinion does for this country next November.

I just read that Michelle Bachmann is telling folks in Iowa that Ron Paul isn’t sufficiently pro-life. The allegation is ridiculous of course, but here’s a data point that folks in Iowa may want to use.

Ron Paul has introduced the Sanctity of Life Act at least five times, most recently earlier this year (HR 1096). The Act provides that as a matter of federal law life begins at conception and it removes federal court jurisdiction to review state laws restricting abortion.

Michelle Bachmann has never co-sponsored the act (several Representatives have over the years) and at least in this term has introduced no legislation of her own on the subject. Bottom line–she’s done nothing as far as I can tell to try to end abortion while RP has repeatedly tried to do so.

Her attack on RP on this point is way off base and she should be challenged on it. Would love to see someone point out specifically that Ron Paul has introduced legislation repeatedly to protect the unborn and Bachmann has refused to support it.

I know that most of you do not care for Romney. The problem is that the voters will not vote for someone that will reduce the amount of their government checks. That includes social security. We all understand that huge cuts need to be made now. Even if real uts were to happen , they will not be enough to matter. We might slow this train wreck down a little, but we are too far in debt to stop the coming pain. At this point I am more concerned about a tyrant like Obama continuing to make radical changes to our country. I do not think that Romney would not force a police state down our throats. Newt has some good ideas, but I would trust Romney more not to more damage with my liberty.

But the truth is, for those of us that have laughed our butts off watching Lucy and Ethel try to box chocolates in complete chaos, that picture attached to Gingrich says it all. How in the heck do you spend as many years as he did as an elected politician and Washington DC insider and not know that he needed to get signatures to even be on the ballot. His operation (his first example of our potential future White House) is laughable. I won‘t trust him to box our nation’s chocolates. He should stick to studying and writing about History, so that those who can get it done will have excellent reference material.

It is astonishing to me that Newt Gingrich is the only one that has laid out a complete list describing all of the issues that need to be dealt with and has laid out a complete solution needed to deal with these issues and how he would approach initiating the solution. Each of the other candidates seem to spend most of their vocal time listing issues about what is wrong and that only they have a plan to fix it, but in telling us about all the problems, they forget to include any description about how they would accomplish fixing anything. I could stand up and tell you I had a plan all day, as long as I did not have to fill in any of the details.
All I hear is how horrible everyone else is and watching as each are all too eager to peddle negative BS of untrue accusations about their opponents.
Now as far as I am concerned the only person running for President that anybody needs to be pointing out as being a destructive unqualified person unable to help bring about the America we all want, is a complete failure as an American President, that has caused extreme misery and is hell-bent on a Socialist Marxist agenda is BARACK OBAMA.

Using common sense, as Herman Cain used to say, Newt Gingrich is the only person that has explained in detail how he will approach the many problems we face with real Common Sense and intelligent solutions. Why not have a candidate that is talking about solutions, not how horrible their Republican opponent is.
In stating the above, I am in no way trying to change any person’s opinion about the candidate of their choice, only point out that each of us should look, listen and compare what each candidate says. In my opinion, Newt Gingrich has the most detailed solutions map of anyone. Now that may change if all the other candidates start spending more time addressing solutions rather than taking cheap shots at their Republican opponents.
