Romney Gets Heat for Hiring Gay Spokesman

Mitt Romney’s decision to hire an openly gay foreign policy spokesman this past week prompted criticism from the director of the socially conservative American Family Association.

Bryan Fischer, who has made controversial comments about Islam, homosexuality and the Mormon faith, said in a tweet Friday night that Romney’s pick of “out & loud gay“ Richard Grenell is a message to the ”pro-family community“ to ”drop dead.”

Romney Gets Heat for Hiring Gay Spokesman

Romney has previously distanced himself from Fischer — who had Rick Santorum as a guest on his radio show earlier this year — denouncing his language as “poisonous” at the conservative Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C. in October.

“Our values ennoble the citizen and strengthen the nation. We should remember that decency and civility are values too,” Romney said. “One of the speakers who will follow me today, has crossed that line, I think. Poisonous language doesn’t advance our cause. It’s never softened a single heart nor changed a single mind.”

Grennell previously served as the director of communications for the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under President George W. Bush.

Jimmy LaSalvia, executive director of the leading gay Republican group GOProud, told BuzzFeed Grenell is “the best person for the job.”

“That’s why Governor Romney hired him. Throughout his entire career, Mitt Romney has brought together top talent to tackle the tasks at hand. All Americans should want the best people helping to elect him to take on the job of bringing America back,” LaSalvia said. “It’s too bad that Mr. Fischer doesn’t agree.”

Chuck Wolfe, CEO of the Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund, similarly praised Grenell for taking on the role in comments to the Washington Blade.

“Good for him,” Wolfe said. “We applaud the participation of out professionals in government and politics. Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, serving openly is important. It allows you to speak honestly about yourself and the LGBT community to colleagues inside campaigns and government offices.”

Grenell‘s first days with the Romney campaign haven’t been without controversy of a different sort: On Friday he apologized for past mocking tweets about Newt and Callista Gingrich, including ones that postulated, “do you think callista’s hair snaps on?” and “what’s higher? The number of jobs newt’s created or the number of wives he’s had?”

Too bad that Paul’s a Constitutionalist and wants to give every one their own personal freedom..reduce the monster government and balance the budget…We certainly don’t need anyone like that.

@TREATY You don’t seem to have any conscience if you can just spout off that Obama can have 4 more years. You obviously don’t think that our country is in a live or die situation. Do you think this election is a joke? That not voting is going to do any good for this country? Whether you like it or not there has to be an election, and there has to be a winner. If your fine with the communist who is running our country, and are okay with what has happened and is happening to this great country, then stay at home. And if Obama wins, you’ll have to live the rest of your life knowing that you did nothing to help stop him. I for one, am not going to let that happen. I want my nieces to grow up in a free and great country. I want every generation after me to enjoy that.

And just to point out your hypocrisy, you criticized 000Degrees for saying “who cares” and then you continue to say that you don’t care.

ASHES. Ron Paul is what I would call a “Gay Guilter.” Ron Paul can’t reconcile the internal guilt he feels for being a homophobic, so he panders to the LGBT community by endorsing Gays in the Military, endorsing a “don’t ask/don’t tell era Military Gay activist (and traitor btw) Pvt Bradley Manning and pretty much endorsing Gay marriage by passing the buck to the states. Dondero isn’t the only one who has said Paul is a homophobe btw. Paul’s Gay guilt has made him “over-compensate” a bit in the pandering dept…

Ron Paul has Michael Scheuer (former head of the CIA Bin Laden unit) who not only agrees with his foreign policy, but fully endorses his candidacy. Col. McGregor, and Col. Anthony Schaffer (operation dark heart) also agrees with Paul’s foreign policy. As does the military who gave Paul more donations than ALL OF THE OTHERS COMBINED, INCLUDING OHMAMMA.

Romney hires “twinkle toes” to be his adviser. What a sick joke.

I am with you brother, if the republicans want to McCain us again, then they are in for a rude awakening. They call it “my vote”, because it belongs to me, Romney aint getting it.

I am a conservative Christian first, i just vote republican, because they generally line up closer on what I believe in. The RINO, mormon, big governemnt Romeny is not from the same camp, and never has been.

A Romney White house is more dangerous than an Obama white house. We know Obama is the enemy, and I would rather have a enemy, then a sheep in wolves clothing. If Romney wins, then in 2014, the dems will take back the house and senate, and we will have progressives running the whole show. I would rather republican house, and hopefull senate just block Obama for four more years, until Republicans can extract their heads from their butts, and get a real candidate worthy of my conservative vote.

They did it to themselves. Let them pay the price/

Ooodegrees, the mission is not to replace Obama. The mission is to replace Obama with a chief executive who will roll back the abuses of his administration, eliminate his executive orders, fire his political appointees, and nominate strong conservatives to the Supreme Court. Mitt Romney is a Massachuestts liberal who will do none of these things, and has a track record of nominating democrat judges in a 60%-40% ratio when given the option. Now he’s throwing Ted Nugent under the bus, and pandering to the gay lobby.

The first thing it does is to separate him from the racist, misogynistic, homophobic jesus-beaters of the trigger-happy right wing (but seriously, YOU f-ers sound like democrats to me) and simplifies the issue with hiring the best qualified “human” despite what his/her personal lifestyle may be.

America to me means being to able to do whatever the hell I want as long as I’m prepared to face the consequences for any of my actions that are contrary to the constitutional rule of law. Being a gay man in America offends only the intolerant, ignorant, and fanatical religious proseltyziers, not the Constitution of the United States.

We cannot hate Romney for being Romney. He is a self proclaimed progressive that has been pro gun laws, pro choice, pro tax increases, pro war, pro debt, pro big government, and anti freedom.

As far as the decision to put a gay on the staff, does he think that is going to get him votes? You can write off the gay and black votes. Dont even bother trying to get them to vote for the GOP.

McCain got crushed by Obama last time and that was with most of the GOP saying “just vote for him instead of Obama”. That plan doesnt work. You have to have energetic people supporting you. There is so little Romney offers as a candidate its really sad. This will be a worse beat down than McCain vs Obama. People are sick of the establishment shoving candidates down our throats.

I will be voting for Ron Paul. I am voting for principles. Many other Americans will be doing the same and so the choice is yours. You can either vote for Romney and have Ron Paul split the votes or you can go with the “ABO” plan and vote for Ron Paul. The ball is in your court establishment, we will see if you are playing against the left or for the left this year.

Time and all the rest of you RINO’s on here. Go ahead and let the establishment pick their puppet again. The whole entire race so far, from the beginning, was directed at Romney getting the nomination. They did not count on the organization and knowledge of the rules by Paul’s supporters, and now they are having a hard time with it. More fraud going on in the primary process, but Paul supporters, for the most part, are winning the battles for delegates. The MSM is not telling you this and you all just go along with what they are telling you. I laugh at your mindset. If you all allow the now corrupt GOP to put Romney as the nominee, do not complain when Obama gets a second term, or try to blame, Ron Paul for it. It will be all of you. Time_2 is a liberal thinker. He tries to come off as this big Conservative, but I have seen through him. He gives quotes constantly from the “father of classical liberalism,” who Karl Marx agreed with some of his thinking. Because of the “hate crime” law..which should have never been passed, homosexuals are now a PROTECTED CLASS. It is against the law to cause them “mental harm”. Also, Canada’s hate crime law puts a person in prison for 5 years. Bullies in reverse. Everything is turned upside down. Perverts are a protected class.

I‘ll agree with those above who think we’ve been McLamed again. The establishment GOP is terrified of going full on convervative and yet, the evidence of modern times is that it is a message well accepted by the majority of Americans. 25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

Remember boys and girls: The constitution promises equal rights given by God and what God has given you do not have the right to take away whether you agree with his personal choices or not. That includes his right to pursue happiness in his career choice. We don’t get to pick and choose which part of the constitution we like it applies equally to every human who has not reduced their rights due to criminal activity.

is Janet Napolitano the best person to head Homeland Security ?
are Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan the types we want appointed to the Supreme Court?

There will be no “Christian” nation as far as a physical place on earth, for we know that His kingdom IS NOT of this world. Now that said, there are many pockets of the globe where His name is lifted high and His rule is clearly seen. But this does not belong to one nation / country / place. Wheat and tares until the end. Days of Noah. Gospel goes out the four corners. PERIOD. Countries do not need to be bombed, they need to be delivered with the message of Christ. Actually, it is a misconception that all sins are exactly the same; sins are similar to each other, yes, but definitely not the “same”. Don’t worry though, it is a common misconception probably based on many Christians understanding of Romans 3:23 (For all have sinned…). The best analogy I can really come up with for sin is to think of it like a cut; all cuts are the same in that they bleed and mark us as imperfect, much like sin does. However, cuts also vary in severity and consequences; some will heal in a matter of time, some will take a long time to heal and cause scars, some may cause life-long damage and very serious ones will result in bleeding to death. Sin is much the same; we as humans have all had our cuts and scrapes, making us equally imperfect before God. However, the sins we commit do vary in severity and will result in varying consequences. This is why the Bible prescribes very different and varying punishments for different sins depending on their severity (capital punishment for the most heinous offenses, trickling down to less serious punishments such as giving up personal belongings and making things right for less serious offenses).

Nothing to worry about – he’s just clearing the Etch a Sketch for the general election.

The beat goes on. Obama added 197 billion to the deficeit in Feb and 220 billion in March and it barely got in the news. Romney has no plans to reduce the actually spending just slow the increase in spending. Romney wants to lower the tax rate for the rich but close loopholes so the rich pay more taxes. Get where this is going yet comrades??
Abortion, gay stuff, guns, wars, healthcare, college loans,GSA, final 4 brackets none of this will matter soon because unless you you are in the top 5% you will only be concerned with be able to pay for food and electricity. The math is the truth – not what I say or what you see on the news. 2 Trillion dollars a year deficeit in 2012 trumps everyting.

Conservatives choose the most qualified person for the job, they don’t “label” everything for quotas.

Every gay person should support Conservatives as they are the ones fighting for freedom and security. Conservatives believe we should vote on issues and not have judges or mobs decide for us. They believe in less government control, freedom of speech and the right to protect yourself.

I get that some religious conservatives disapprove of homosexuality, but remember that freedom includes things one does not approve of.

Liberals are the ones who try and force their beliefs and opinions onto the masses…doing the opposite of whatever they do is not what Conservatives value.

the conservative position is to not put yourself into a group or category. sexuality is one of them. no conservative should go around talking about how they belong to a special group because of their eye color, ancestors, or sexuality. nobody deserves special treatment because we are all equal under God and the law

With that said, I know this spokesman is not a conservative because no conservative would make a big deal about their sexuality. He may be a republican, but he is not a conservative (just like romney). so therefore he is NOT the best person for the job. Romney wanted to score political PC points or reward a friend – either one

As far as “finding the best person for the job”, when you hire a homosexual you’re hiring someone from perhaps 1%-2% of the population at best. You really have a hard time making the case that nowhere in the remaining 98%-99% of the population that someone equally or more qualified could not be found. This is gay affirmative action.

To be totally honest. I have never seen a gay guy that was a lazy POS. They work their butts off. Property values actually INCREASE when they move into neighborhoods. That being said, I just don’t like the blantant “lets appeal to everybody” BS. The sucking up to “the protected ones”, because you better do it or else they will call you this or that. Just like McCain tried to do. At least the commie progs come right out and say they hate your guts and they don’t care about you. Like they do to white guys all the time. Gays are probably more like 3% or 4%, maybe as high as five, but that’s beside the point. Romney didn’t go looking for the best gay foreign policy spokesman. Everybody is part of some minority. You wouldn’t be asking if he could have found somebody equally qualified in the remaining majority if he had picked somebody left-handed or Jewish or of Indian descent or any other group that makes up less than ten percent of the population.

Why is is so important to replace Obama? Are you replacing him because he is pregressive and bad for America? If so, you will be replacing him with a RINO Progressive big governemnt in Romeny.

Yea, I can not stand having Obama as president, but I do not buy into this whole mantra of any one but Obama. Romeny may drive the bus off the bus of the cliff at a slightly slower speed than Obama, but he still wants to drive it off the cliff.

Here is the real kicker if we elect Romeny. By 2014, you know that the dems will take back the house and senate, then we will have progressives running everything, and Jelly Fish Romney will never slow them down, he will fold like a lawn chair from K Mart. At least if Obama wins, we can keep the congress in the hands of republicans, perhaps get the majority in the senate, and block Obama for four years until conservatives pull their head out of their butt, and find a real candidate.

Too bad votes are “nuanced”. Meaning that I am voting for the person of the party that I am currently registered with but only because the other guy is so bad.

Or yes I am voting for him but under protest. The Conservative party of New York votes Republican if they can;t run their own candidate. They caucus or work with the Republicans.

We need Libertarian & Conservative party to be in each state. Sooner or later it we will “HOLLOW OUT” the Republican party & all that will be left will be the “money men”. Yep, I am fully aware that we are heading directly toward socialism, and Romeny is heading that same direction, just a little slower pace. Either way, big gov progressives, and they all head the same way.

One again, I am a conservative first. My voter goes to the conservative. As it looks now, there is not a conservative in the race, and thus I sit this one out. Start stocking up on food, bullets, and water. Could be some interesting days ahead.

There are going to be gays in any administration of any party, Democrat, Republican or other. Some will be open & some will be closeted, but they will be there.

We do not need to be out there trying to win the gay vote. Just based on past history the majority of gay voters will not vote Republican for the next 2 generations no matter what the position the Republican party takes in the now or in the future.

We just have to live with LGBT with the way they are now. Neuroscience/psychology will get us the answers in the next 2 generations. Afterwards, I suspect there will many fewer LGBT in the future. Melvin Spittle posted a link a few days ago. So I did some web surfing & ended up at a blog that described the early life of a gay crusader called Harry Hays. Suffice it to say he was molested.
That accounts for 1 category of people who become gay. Between better policing & neuroscience we won’t have anymore debates where a gay troll says “We are the way we are just accept it. We don’t know why & we don’t need to know”. That line of reasoning will not work in the future. There will be fewer gays in the future & the APA will once again flip flop. This time for the last time.
