Romney Responds to Newsweek ‘Wimp’ Cover: ‘Wouldn’t Get Much Sleep’ If I Worried About the Media

(The Blaze/AP) — Mitt Romney says if he worried about what reporters thought of him, he wouldn’t get much sleep– and he’s been sleeping just fine.
The U.S. presidential candidate told CBS’ “Face the Nation” that he isn’t sweating the upcoming Newsweek magazine cover that leads with “Romney: The Wimp Factor.”
The title reportedly continues: “Is He Just Too Insecure To Be President?“ and the article itself then likens the presidential candidate to a ”mouse” in the White House.
Here’s how the cover will reportedly appear:
Romney explained that the media tried a similar criticism of President George H.W. Bush, who Romney described as “a pretty great president” and not a “wimp.”
Newsweek used the same exact insult, actually. According to the Associated Press, a 1987 Newsweek profile featured then-Vice President Bush with the title — “Fighting the ‘Wimp Factor.”
Asked whether he had ever been called “wimp” himself, Romney says he thinks the magazine cover is a first.
The left’s narrative appears to have run two different courses simultaneously in this regard. Romney has been portrayed as a “bully” for allegedly cutting the hair of a boy in grade school, and Obama adviser Robert Gibbs just called Romney to a “prep school bully” on Sunday.
So is it possible to be both a bully and a wimp at the same time?
Watch the whole CBS interview, below:
As those who follow current events know, Newsweek has a reputation for leading with provocative (but not necessarily accurate) cover stories.
According to Newsweek, Barack Obama is the “first gay president,” and everyone remembers Michele Bachmann’s unfortunate cover photo.
The antics likely haven‘t helped Newsweek’s success in the industry. Earlier this week, it was announced that the magazine may be forced to become online-only.
The conservative site Weasel Zippers responded to the Newsweek cover with an image of Barack Obama riding his bicycle, asking: “If Romney is a wimp, then what is this guy?”
When asked how she feels about the Newsweek cover, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz launched into a discussion of Romney’s “[secretive]” habits:
“Well, I think Mitt Romney has demonstrated repeatedly he has a penchant for– for secrecy, doesn’t seem to have any interest in actually showing the American people his– his finances, decision– important decisions about his investments, refuses to come clean on his time at Bain Capital and when he was really there, and, you know, be held accountable for the outsourcing of jobs and the off-shoring of jobs and shipping jobs overseas … So I– I think he has left quite a bit of doubt about his level of preparation and readiness to the President.”

More and more of the corruption, lies, destruction and deceit that shape the obama administration is coming out and the fact that WE ARE NOT BETTER OFF THAN FOUR YEARS AGO!

Asked why non of Romney’s sons have spent time in the military, Romney says his sons are serving the country by helping him get elected.

When you look at everything, it shows that you are Un-American and Just and I are truly Patriots to the Constitution. Romney is for the Patriot Act, Paul is for repealing the Patriot Act. Romney is for the NDAA signed by Obama, Paul says it is unconstitutional and will be a threat to all liberty minded citizens. Romney is for banning assault weapons (hence a D- with Gun Owners of America), Paul is for repealing all anti-gun laws on the books presently (hence A+ with Gun Owners of America). We are for Ron Paul and are intelligent enough to understand that Romney cannot defeat Obama, but Paul would win by a landslide. The only thing that would keep me from becoming super rich is the fact that I deal honestly in everything I do. I have had other businessmen tell me that I am too nice and that is why I get screwed from time to time. What do you do hotshot? To call me a Marxist or anti-capitalist shows that you are a walk-off. Romney is a socialist, period. But, with your lack of brains, I doubt if you would know the difference between a progressive and a true patriot. True capitalism comes from a totally free market free of government regulations. Now I know that there needs to be some regulations to ensure fairness to consumers, but we are regulated to death. I have seen my bottom line steadily decrease because of state and federal regulations. The progressives just seem to not get enough regulations in order to tell us what we can and cannot do. Croni-capitalists like Romney are just as bad. He is for banning assault weapons, for the Patriot Act and the NDAA that Obama signed. He is not your friend, he is just another lying progressive and it looks like you are too.

Government did NOT help us until the Bush cuts enabled us to hire more people and expand our inventory. I would be glad to discuss more but I do not believe you. You sound like an Obamabot . An anti-capitalist indoctrinated youngster. I really do feel bad for all of the unfortunate young people these Obama Lefties have poisoned with their hate and their crazy ideas. They are stealing the optimism, the hope and the basic decency which has always been at the heart of the American experience. A business is only as successful as the honest people one hires . I finally figured out that I am a Libertarian in my views the last couple years which makes me more conservative than most present day Republicans. I know you have a misunderstanding of libertarianism, which I replied to you about on the second page, but you are wrong. Romney is not a conservative by a long shot, all of you know it. I know all of you know it from all of you saying you will hold your nose. The problem is, we Paul supporters will not vote for a progressive again. Democrats, that would vote for Paul, and there are more than you would think, will do like you and hold their nose, but for Obama rather than vote for Romney. The GOP has pretty much said they do not want the youth in their ranks, so they will either stay home or write in Paul like all of us Paul supporters. The Independents have been leaving the Romney train according to polls, that leaves the Republicans, and Romney cannot even get 100% of them. How will he defeat Obama? At least Paul would get votes from all those voting blocks, and all of you said you would vote for anyone but Obama. That leaves Paul winning by a landslide. That should tell all you Republicans that the Republican candidate that will ensure a Republican win, is Ron Paul. Stop listening to the establishment reporters.
