Barack Obama’s campaign has launched a barrage of attacks on Mitt Romney in recent weeks, primarily surrounding the Republican candidate’s time at Bain Capital.

The president’s deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter suggested that Mitt Romney could be guilty of a felony, and recent Obama campaign ads have accused Romney of outsourcing jobs during his time in the private sector.  The Romney camp has said the candidate’s resignation from the company was retroactive (although he was still listed on some forms until 2002, it was a formality and not indicative of him running the company). And when the Romney camp spoke out against the attacks, Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel told the Republican candidate to “stop whining.”

After the president declared Saturday that they will “not apologize” for the attacks, Mitt Romney is taking some time to respond.

Politico relates:

“A campaign based on falsehood and dishonesty does not have long legs,” Romney said on “Fox and Friends,” later adding: “The president only has one thing going, and that is constant attacks on me. They’re dishonest. They’re misdirected. And I think the American people recognize that kind of politics as something of the past. It may work in Chicago, but it’s not going to work across America.”

“If we want to talk about transparency, the real issue is, why has this president used his presidential power and executive privilege to keep the information about the Fast and Furious program from being explained to the American people?” the former Massachusetts governor said, referring to Obama’s assertion of executive privilege over documents related to the disastrous “gun-walking” operation.

…“I think when people accuse you of a crime, you have every reason to go after them pretty hard,” Romney said in response to the Chicago mayor.

Fox has video of the entire response:

“It’s ridiculous, and of course it’s beneath the dignity of the presidency and of his campaign.  He really needs to rein in his team and finally take responsibility for what they’re saying,” Romney said earlier.

“You know [Obama] called me when I came close to cinching the Republican nomination, congratulated me, and said we’re going to have an important debate, a meaningful debate about the future of the country…I’m waiting for that to start,” he explained.

Today, Romney added: “What does it say about a president whose record is so poor that all he can do in his campaign is attack me?”

“The best offense is to look at the president’s record.”

    Obama has you spending all your time and money on the defensive. You complain that Obama is trying to distract the public from his poor record over the past 3+ years, but at the same time, you are letting him completely control the election.

    If we are truely seeing Romney’s/GOP’s campaign plan in action, there is no way they are going to win. I thought McCain had the weakest campaign I had ever seen in my lifetime, but his team was all-stars compared to this bunch of spineless weasels. It’s hard to imagine that any of the other GOP contenders could possibly have done worse. What an embarassment.

      He needs to really repeat this information.

      –Then, Romney can give specifics (including Allen West’s “Progressive/Democratic Party/Socialists)
      AND names and actions of Obama gang-members such as Van Jones).

      I too hope Romney’s campaign wakes up to what they are dealing with. Felon? Lies? LOL There is a WEALTH of facts about Obama & his chief advisers (Jarrett/Axelrod, etc.) that could be stated – not accusations, just facts (with proofs). Then, say something like “with that background and lies, what do you think is the most likely agenda they will implement fully if he is re-elected? We report, you decide.” That’s not lying – it’s legitimate, needed info America needs to know about a Pres. candidate. Yes, talk about the eonomny/jobs but also the dire warnings of what is likely to happen, according to the facts if re-elected. Many people don’t understand or care about the eonomy or taxes – half don‘t even pay them and they aren’t informed about facts.

      Mr Romney must release his tax returns. If he doesn’t it can only cost him votes. No one is going to vote FOR him because he didn’t release them, but will vote AGAINST him because he didn’t. If there is some “trouble” in those returns the left will find out anyway and he will be toast. He needs to release them and let the chips fall where they may.

      Republicans are being duped into picking the least viable candidate once again. Romney will not defeat Obama, just listen to him. What does he have to hide in his tax returns? There is something or he would just do it. Obama will pounce on that, and he will rile up his base. His campaign, working with the RNC (against the rules), committed federal crimes to keep Paul supporters (who followed the rules) from gaining delegates positions across the country, setting up Shadow Parties, etc…. This is why Paul supporters will not vote for him no matter what. The Dems will do like most of you here, they will hold their nose, Romney will not get them either. The youth vote? Forget it. The Independents? Good luck on that one too. Paul would have brought all those voting blocks to the table. If you people are really serious about making Obama a one term President, you should have supported Paul as Romney will not do it. And before anyone says, well it is too late now, no it isn’t. Quit listening to the media as they lie. Paul has the plurality of delegates in seven states and never needed Nebraska. He will be on the ballot next to Romney in Tampa, the delegates will be unbound per federal law. See you in Tampa.

      Or you could just keep repeating the narrative and try to divert the attention from what Romney’s influence at Bain, his offshore accounts and exploitation of the tax system. A guy who takes advantage of the tax loopholes and tax breaks him and his wealthy friends have financed campaigns on both sides of the isle for and had lobbyists work on. Romney and the super PAC he coordinated with during the primaries had no problem with negative ads. It’s not that ads are negative, it is that the ads are starting to make it clear what Romney really is.

      As a Independent I am disgusted with the direction Obama and his campaign have taken. He continues to come out with these totally unfounded comment and accusations and forgets about the number of times he has violated the law himself. The number of treasonous acts he has committed and although he took a oath to uphold the constitution, the number of times he has totally ignored or refused to uphold the law of the land. His recent comments about business just further exemplifies he ignorance and proves once again the lack of any business or executive experience. His Chicago Mafia approach and ghetto thinking is why this country is where it is today. He talks compromise however, his definition of compromise is everything has to be his way or no way at all. I believe that this incompetent Bas___d in the White House has made it even more difficult for any Black man in the near future to win the office of President.

    Here’s an idea how about Romney agree to release more tax returns just as soon as BO releases his college transcripts. A chill went up my spine when I heard this business about this made up felony. The sycophants have further started beating this drum that Romney has lied to the Feds/SEC. Would it be too much of a stretch to ponder this is how they steal the election by the use of this current and I use the term loosely “justice” department to charge Romney with a crime? Remember comrade pelosi and her its not about true or not but the seriousness of the charge? This administration has already shown that they will do anything to have their way be it lies or the use of their useful idiots in the media. They pick and choose the laws they will and wont enforce, had GW and being a conservative I’m no GW fan but if he had pulled half of the unconstitutional foolishness this guy has they would have been screaming even louder for his impeachment. Romney’s energy policies are better than Obama’s. What Romney says about regulations is better, and what he says about ACA is better. However I don’t believe either. His stance with China is dangerous with such a fragile economy, although I would like to tell them to piss off myself. Everything else is essentially the same except for foreign policy. In this area I believe Romney fails miserably by surrounding himself with Bush’s staff. Based on the last thing I’d actually say Obama were the lesser of two evils at this point if I followed that flawed logic. Seriously dude, you’re taking things RP supporters point out that Romney has said and/or done and calling it propaganda instead of proving we are wrong. That, my friend, is what propaganda really is. Another point you often make that is propaganda is Romney is a capitalist, when in reality he is at best a crony capitalist. He’s more like a central planning socialist too. The only difference is his ideas of wealth redistribution are that his buddies at Goldman Sachs, other countries and the central bank will be the beneficiaries.

    This is coming from a guy who had to kiss the ring of Trump for fundraisers. Trump, the guy running around asking about a birth certificate. The same party asking to see a birth certificate for over 3 years are upset now? Last i checked Obama released his BC, and years of his taxes. I still havent seen Romenys BC and we got 1 year of taxes from 2010. Mitt is trying to hide as much as he can and i dont blame him. But for a guy who ran his whole primary negative to start complaining now just shows he isnt a leader, he is a coward who cant handle pressure. How would be deal with Iran if he cant handle this.

    Come on Mitt, if Barry wasn’t using lies and unfounded accusations to attack you with, what would he do?
    Can you imagine one of his rousing audio enhanced speeches, where he preached to his hand picked audience that he was the cause of the $5 Trillion debt, the 15% jobless, and even the Volt, complete failures?
    Could he speak of the greatness of his & Eric’s Fast & Furious gun running campaign that ended up getting hundreds murdered? Or his denying the Keystone Pipeline for campaign contributions.

    He already tells of how he saved the US auto industry, with tax payers money, and the assets of some legal bond holders, that he stole and transferred their equity to his union buddies. But he never mentions, if GM had to pay back the tax payers tomorrow, they would have to close their door the next day. That part wont be revealed until after is out of the office.

    I hope the Romney campaign continues doing what they are doing, every time Barry comes up with another of his unfounded accusations, Mitt just puts out a video with Barry’s failures and lies.

Bottom line is he had as much if not more knowledge and influence over Bain Capital in the referenced years as he and his campaign had directing the attack ads during the primaries. Tell me with a straight face that you don’t think Romney plays fast and loose with the truth. “Well the health insurance mandate I put in in MA was a good thing and shows my leadership abilities, but its not right for the country” At least that’s what I think the voters will buy.

    His support for bailouts
    His executive orders paving the way for Agenda 21 and a complete take over by the UN
    His views on abortion
    His views on deficit spending and our debt crises, cap and trade…
    Most importantly go after him for his views that our rights don’t from a higher authority than man

I AM a disabled veteran, and I love my brothers as much as anyone in this country, and despite being a disabled veteran I went to the recruiter when those towers went down. They didn’t want me back. Part of the reason RP received my support is I believe he‘s the only one running who doesn’t have the Henry Kissinger mentality about our military men and women. You know, they’re dumb animals to be used as pawns in our foreign policy. Many of my brothers on here disagree with me, but still know that I typically say the things I do because I believe it‘s what’s best for the troops. That is, they’re tired, overextended and want to come home. Furthermore, I think I‘m the only one here talking about how 18 veterans a day are committing suicide because our bad foreign policy and politician’s lies.

    And Romney can clear up the whole issue by releasing his tax returns for 200, 2001 and 2002. Showing exactly where his income came from. The notion that he was unaware of the deals Bain Capital was involved in and the nature of the deals is the type of in depth, solid response that works with superficial ideologues, but not independents who want to know why a Presidential candidate would have to be so secretive about his business dealings, off shore accounts and “technically” legal tax evasion strategies. So perhaps he could unwrap the American flag long enough to be as honest with the American people as his father was.

He or she only has to file a current financial statement with the election commission. Why will Obama not release all his tax statements, showing how he was paid as a “Community Organizer” living off the TAXPAYERS money. Why will Obama not release his college and university financial statements to show who really paid his college expenses at some of the most exclusive, prestigeous and expensive schools in the country?
