Romney Super PAC Gets Major Gifts From Some of Obama’s 2008 Jewish Donors

It’s no secret that President Barack Obama has struggled — at least in the eyes of some critics — to maintain his image as a president who is highly supportive of the Israeli state. From his flap last year over Israel’s 1967 borders to a convoluted view regarding where he stands on issues surrounding Middle Eastern politics, it hasn’t been an easy road for Obama.

In the past, The Blaze reported that the president sees the need to ramp up his efforts to court Jewish voters. Now, following ongoing questions, there‘s evidence that some major Jewish donors to Obama’s 2008 campaign have been doling out cash to Romney’s super PAC. The Jewish Forward reports that a small group of Jewish private equity investors happen to be playing a major role in the Republican contender’s fundraising efforts.
Romney’s PAC has benefited a great deal from these individuals, with 10 percent of the total $36 million raised coming in from them. Of course, Republican-leaning Jewish donors have long supported Romney, as the Forward reports. But there may be a changing dynamic here, as some of those Jewish donors providing Romney‘s super PAC with funds were major individual donors to Obama’s historic 2008 campaign (or to Democratic campaigns and causes more generally).
“It sounds like these guys, they have a personal vested interest in making sure [Obama] gets beat,” said Fred Zeidman, a fundraiser for the Romney campaign.

The Forward continues, providing more on those individuals who have a background in Democratic politics:
…some of the Jewish givers to the Romney super PAC have a history of giving to Democratic candidates and Democratic Party groups. Steven Roth, chairman of the real estate investment firm Vornado Realty Trust, gave $100,000 to the Romney super PAC. But he and his wife were among the top donors in the country to Democratic candidates and party groups in the 2006 election cycle, according to [CRP. Roth raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for John McCain in 2008, though he and his wife were also top individual donors rated “solidly Democratic” by CRP.
Paul Fireman of the private equity firm Fireman Capital Partners, former chairman of the shoe company Reebok, gave $250,000 to Restore Our Future. He made individual donations of a few thousand dollars to Obama’s campaign in 2008 and made donations of $30,000 and $22,000 to Democratic Party groups in 2008 and 2009, respectively. But Fireman also gave to a pro-Romney PAC in 2007.
There are plenty of others who join these individuals in now pledging support to Romney’s electoral efforts. Considering past questions about Obama’s viability among American Jews, these movements are noteworthy. Still, one must operate with a healthy level of skepticism, especially considering the fact that anecdotal happenings are not necessarily indicative of greater patterns of behavior.
“In every election cycle there are individuals who, for personal reasons or financial reasons or business reasons, move from one party to the other, and it’s hardly surprising that a couple people end up in the Romney camp who have given to Democrats in the past,” says Mark Mellman, a Democratic pollster.
Regardless, it’s likely these movements, especially considering ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and a Jewish cohort that continues to hammer away at Obama’s purported lack of support for Israel, will concern some Democrats.

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 4:19pmI feel like the title here is misleading. Obama 2008 donors? But the quoted examples are generally either pro-GOP, or have donated to both sides in the past.
“Steven Roth, chairman of the real estate investment firm Vornado Realty Trust, gave $100,000 to the Romney super PAC. But he and his wife were among the top donors in the country to Democratic candidates and party groups in the 2006 election cycle, according to CRP. Roth raised between $50,000 and $100,000 for John McCain in 2008, though he and his wife were also top individual donors rated “solidly Democratic” by CRP.”
Exhibit A, Steven Roth (and wife). Donated:
$100k to Romney in 2012
$50-100k to McCain in 2008
“Among the top donors to Democrats in 2006”… no numbers given. Huh.
“Paul Fireman… gave $250,000 to Restore Our Future. He made individual donations of a few thousand dollars to Obama’s campaign in 2008 and made donations of $30,000 and $22,000 to Democratic Party groups in 2008 and 2009, respectively. But Fireman also gave to a pro-Romney PAC in 2007.”
Exhibit B: Paul Fireman
Gave $250k to Romney in 2012
A few thousand dollars to Obama in 2008
$52k to the Democratic party in 08-09
“Also gave” to a pro-Romney PAC in 2007
Sounds like hedging his bets until this year. Wanted Romney in 2007, but McCain won, so he supported Obama with hopes of kick-backs. Now Romney might win, so he gets the money this time (and probably more kick-backs).

Is it better to vote for a person you disagree with? Glenn Beck already predicted an Obama victory in 2012; he’s reading the signs. Romney at this point will likely be the candidate, but he won’t win; he doesn’t have the social conservative base behind him, nor the fiscally conservative base. His only real assets are his rich benefactors and moderates who are dissatisfied with Obama.
I likely just won’t be voting. A vote for Romney would be against my better judgment, and there‘s no way I’m voting for Obama. Will it cause the election to be lost? I consider it a lost cause since not a single one of the GOP candidates, outside the un-electable Ron Paul, even consider looking at the fiscal travesty that is our government.

You would know that every month, every member of a Mormon congregation receives a visit from two “home teachers,” who share an inspirational message but, more importantly, are charged with the responsibility of looking out for the family’s welfare. So if a family is struggling, the home teachers are the spiritual “first responders,” and a good home teacher jumps at any opportunity to be of service.

Who was the only man who went to church on Sunday – sat in the back of the Church and didn’t turn it into a fund raiser or a harangue against the others running? You saw him Glenn!
A few years back, a hive of hornets decided to make its nest on top of a second-story swamp cooler outside my cousin’s Boston-area home. My cousin made an ill-fated attempt to remove the hornets, which resulted in a two-story fall and a broken arm.
“This looks like a job for your home teacher,” said my cousin’s home teacher.
The home teacher brought over his own ladder and clothed himself in homemade beekeeping gear. He then made his way to the hornet’s nest and gathered the whole thing up in a garbage bag, avoiding any stings or the more severe injuries that had beset my cousin. He did this with no public fanfare, no accolades, and no thought of collecting payment for his efforts.
And who was this noble home teacher? A man by the name of Mitt Romney.
Now, unless you’re familiar with Mormon lingo, you probably got lost when I introduced the phrase “home teacher,” or you may have conjured up images of some kind of private educational tutor who was taking care of my cousin’s kids. That would have left you wondering why a tutor thought it was their responsibility to wrangle hornets.
To be continued

Posted on March 13, 2012 at 7:21pmMany people in different demographics voted in 2008. Look at the breakdown of them and the candidate they voted for. When that is done then an intelligent dialogue could take place. The reason the Jewish vote has been mainly for the democratic party in the past is because of mistreatment of Jewish people and the preception that the democratic party was one that cared about the average American and his or her needs. There was a time in the United States when some businesses posted signs Jews need not apply or Christian only. Jews were not allowed membership in some clubs. The anti-Jewish bias came to America. With time it improved partly through the efforts of Jewish people and fair Christians. Today anti-semitism is growing. Politics change and party ideas change. We are seeing that now. The Blaze knows this is a gotcha topic so they promote it. The focus should be on all demographics. The youth vote and how it was encouraged to vote in the 2008 election is one that showed how a vote could be gained by an image and by a rock concert preceding a candidate on the campaign trail. It was good strategy. The question is how has that voting group changed, to what degree has it changed or not We have the opportunity now to look at each candidate on skills, knowledge, history, and plans on everything from economics to security. It is up to the individual to choose lumping people together does not show the real picture. Demographics is a tool not a given.
