WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — Mitt Romney squeezed out a win in pivotal Ohio, captured four other states with ease and padded his delegate lead in the race for the Republican presidential nomination but was forced to share the Super Tuesday spotlight with a resurgent Rick Santorum.
On the busiest night of the campaign, Romney scored a home-state win in Massachusetts to go with primary victories in Vermont and in Virginia – where neither Santorum nor Newt Gingrich was on the ballot. He added the Idaho caucuses to his column.
Ohio was the big win, though, and the closest contest of all.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 9:55amWhere is the REST of the Story? I’ve been browsing the headlines, listening to various media, I missed the 1st few mins of the show…BUT I haven’t heard anyone mention that Perry picked up approximately 7400 OHIO votes (1%) and Huntsman received 6300 OHIO votes (1%). Those could have been deal breakers for Romney had they gone toward Santorum. Of course the pendulum could have swung toward Romney. Either way, EVERYONE seems to be dismissing those 13,000+ votes. Why did Romney or Santorum MISS those votes?

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:14amAwwww, Relax Santorum man. It’ll be okay. Romney has a better chance of beating Obama than Santorum does. He has the money and that is what it will take. He will also gather up more middle of the road independents and even moderate dems. Santorum would be chewed up by the Obama machine.
But…It is far from over! Santorum still has an awesome chance at winning the nomination.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:17amYep, and that skill set is matching Obama perfectly on all the issues that are important. Do I want the white guy that wants govt. healthcare, or the black guy that wants govt. healthcare. Do I want the white guy that will refuse to open up drilling in America and achieving energy independence, or the black guy that refuses the same thing. Yep, quite a choice. I’m gonna put this out right now. I GUARANTEE that if Romney is the nomination, that Obama will get a 2nd term. Need to save this page, so in November, you can come back and see how right I am.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:21amTT, we don’t need someone who can get the moderates. That doesn’t work. It didn’t work with Mccain. And people like me, will not vote for Romney. I’ll vote 3rd party or not at all. I refuse to compromise my values just to try for a GOP/big govt. win. It’s because so many are willing to compromise their values, that has put us in this place we are now.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:38amProfessor,
I was hoping you would prove to be more rational than that. Are you blind? Santorum is as big a RINO as Romney AND Gingrich! They are ALL just different ends of the same animal. If you want change then you need to support Ron Paul. You actually sound as idiotic as the Paulbots with your last post. “If my man can;t win then I just won’t vote…” So don’t you DARE bitch about Obama winning another term, it is on YOUR head!
You should hear Romney out! You spew all the rhetoric against him, but what has HE said about obamacare? Drilling?
Truth be told, Gingrich has the best ideas and sound bites and Gingrich is the one that can tear Obama up in debate. He would probably make the best president, he knows the machine well. But whatever…I voted Ron Paul in the Fl. Primary and now I will happily support WHOEVER wins the nomination. Obama has to go, it is a matter of national security at this point,

Those other guys can’t even get on some state ballots???? What a joke.
So, maybe Romney is afterall the better candidate. If he can run a more organized campaign, he can run the country better.

————————————————-
Not a chance! If anything this will just make the final candidate that much stronger. Look at the dem primary race in 08, they were saying the same thing as Obama and Clinton shot each other to pieces.
Never forget, the American attention span gets shorter and shorter…A week goes by and with the 24/7 news cycle people forget all about what was a major crises only days before…
No…Not going to be an issue at all. By the time Obama gets hold of Romney all his weaknesses will have been exposed and patched up…

You have to look at what Clinton and Obama were saying in 2008. This is a completely different landscape. There is no BIG name in this field that carries much weight. Why do you think people like Christie, Daniels, Palin didn’t get into the race? They knew from the very beginning Obama is going to be tough to beat and the “race to the right” that Romney has had to do just to secure the nomination has made it even harder to win the general election.
Romney was expecting to be able to come in, talk about the economy and secure the nomination but instead he has had to go so far right because of Santorum and Gingrich that he has alienated lot of moderates and independents.
The establishment GOPers aren’t “afraid” of a Gingrich or Santorum Presidency. They’re not “afraid” of the “shakeup” that both guys claim. The establishment GOP cares about winning, that is all.
They have looked at Santorum, and they have seen his outlandish remarks about homosexuality, birth control and other issues which makes him unappealing to anyone except very conservative GOPs.
Gingrich has a ton of baggage that Obama could tear to shreds.
Ron Paul is viewed as “too loony” and out of touch with common day Government.
Therefore while it will still be a tough road, Romney gives the best chance of beating Obama and that’s why the establishment backs him.

Posted on March 7, 2012 at 1:29amHard to know what is really up because everyone puts spin on everything. There is a lot in what you say Moderation, I do not as much disagree as I minimize what you are saying. Polling consistently shows every candidate running fairly even with Obama and once the GOP gets a final candidate support will galvanize behind him. You are correct that the GOP does not care who it is, that is how the game is played. The general public is drastically split on these guys for the reasons you cite. Heck, look at THE PROFESSOR’s posts above this thread. None of them are the pick of the litter, but I think any of them are qualified to do the job and would probably do a much better job than Obama. I think the vast majority of folks feel the same. Like it or not, it will be a vote against Obama rather than for the Republican.
I just wonder if Obama can muster up enough minor voting blocks this time to make a run of it. I am not as optimistic as Dick Morris, but I do think odds are good he will be beaten.
