Ron Paul Clinches California GOP Straw Poll, Distantly Followed by Rick Perry and Mitt Romney

Texas congressman and GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul won the California Republican straw poll at the state party convention Saturday, handily beating Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who placed second.

Paul dominated the results, winning 44.9 percent of the vote. Perry received 29.3 percent, according to the Los Angeles Times, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney placed third with 8.8 percent. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, who was the target of a gay rights protest at the convention, came in fourth with 7.7 percent, following a dip in her national poll numbers.

The LA Times described Paul fans as being “out in full force,” raucously cheering and whistling when the candidate arrived at the convention to speak. Paul’s speech followed familiar themes, with a line that America’s role is “not to be the policeman of the world” receiving particularly loud applause.

He closed by saying, “I’m running on peace and prosperity and personal liberty, the U.S. Constitution and the American tradition.”

Supporters chanted, “President Paul!” as he left.

The win came the same day as an online “Constitution Day Money Bomb” fundraiser, in which Paul attempted to raise a large amount of money from his supporters in 24 hours. A similar in event in August netted 1.6 million in one day.

A recent CNN poll placed Paul in third place nationally, with 13 percent, behind Romney in second place with 21 percent and Perry in first with 32 percent.

Full California straw poll results, as reported by the LA Times:

Congressman Ron Paul (374, 44.9%)

Gov. Rick Perry (244, 29.3%)

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (74, 8.8%)

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (64, 7.7%)

Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman (17, 2.0%)

Herman Cain (15, 1.8%)

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (14, 1.7%)

Congressman Thad McCotter (7, 0.8%)

Former Sen. Rick Santorum (7, 0.8%)

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson (2, 0.2%)

Fred Karger (1, 0.1%)

Write-ins (15, 1.8%)

Yes, you will see. You will see the whiny, sniveling little bee eye itch, Ron Paul, soundly defeated and humiliated in the primaries. Palin will be in it by the primaries, and she will muck up the whole thing for the GOP. I’ve already come to grips with the fact that Bammy is going to handily win reelection (if there even IS an election), and finish his “fundamental transformation” of the USA. God help us.

Your declaration that Palin is our next President is naive at best. Do you really think the country can even get past her annoying sing-song voice? I know I can’t. She’s an opportunistic hick and could never defeat Bammy. Come to grips. Palin is a loser. Paul is a sniveler. Perry might be the guy. I’m praying Huckabee will have a change of heart and get in it. I don’t know the “standard talking points about Palin” and I don’t take marching orders from the lame stream media. I’m a big boy. I draw my own conclusions all by myself based on what the candidates do and say. I cringed when McLame put Palin on his ticket because I knew it would mean definite defeat, and guess what: I was right! Then when she resigned her office as Gov., that showed the world how uncommitted and opportunistic she is. I am staunchly CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN. Mike Huckabee is no RINO. He’s a conservative Republican Christian MAN. That’s who can defeat Bamster. You don’t like Huckabee because he is a soft spoken gentleman and not a foul-mouthed hick like Palin (and I’m guessing…you?). He is the kind of man that can win over the likes of a devil such as Joy Behar. Huckabee is a realist. His positions are realistic. Palins positions are opportunistic.

If Ron Paul becomes the POTUS, and pulls all of the troops out of Afghanistan, then who will guard the CIA’s poppy fields? They can’t leave the guarding of poppy fields up to the Afghanistan Army can they?

If Ron Paul becomes the POTUS, and ends the one hundred year charter of the Federal Reserve in 2013, then who will buy the US Treasury bonds and secretly lend trillions to European banks?

I could go on and on, but I won’t. Suffice to say, TPTB and MSM (including Beck and the Blaze) will do EVERYTHING they can to stop Paul from being nominated. Don’t forget the Secret Service guarding presidents and presidential candidates are under the control of the banksters at the US Treasury Dept. Get the picture?

Ron Paul is the candidate who’s voting record most represents the founding fathers. He told us the FED would cripple our country and it is. He told us how to fix it too. Fire the FED. As POTUS just like Andrew Jackson did he would flush the central bank that is chocking the prosperity out of America. That is exactly why both sides of the media do their best to make Paul look bad because the owners of the media are also the owners of the FED.

I like that you brought up the secret service that way. I think that it escapes 90% of the adult population that the secret service was originally founded to protect our currency and not the president. Makes me wonder where their true allegience lies. I have doubt that their number one job is really protecting the president. Especially seeing as how the last president to be assasinated was killed a week after signing an order to print non-federal reserve notes that were actually backed by silver and his ultimate goal was to end the Fed. When Ron Paul gets elected he should not rely on the secret service to protect him. Maybe he could hire a few of us veteran oathkeepers to keep him company in D.C.

@Banter Ron Paul is the only conservative in the race. The rest of these “republicans” will do nothing more than maintain the current system which has pushed us to the edge of insolvency. Ron Paul is the only one that has plans for and would make real meaningful cuts.
I know that most people that oppose Ron Paul, oppose him primarily because of his foreign policy.
But you need to understand that he is non-interventionalist, not isolationist, there is a HUGE difference.
And if you are honest with yourself you will have to admit, there is something fundamentally wrong with the fact that a nation, which has about 5% of the worlds population accounts for roughly 50% of global military spending… We have plenty of fat to trim in the DoD without jeopardizing security of our homeland.

I’d say the Democrats know Ron Paul cannot win and when the primary comes to SC, they will turn out in numbers to support him. Straw polls are just that, straw in the wind.

Romney is a “New World Order” progressive “Republican”, might as well keep Obama.

Cain hasn’t a chance because the first black president has screwed that up. (that’s not racist, that’s just the way that cookie will crumble – People will look twice at another black person for president regardless of what they “say”.)

The two harridans, Palin and Bachmann, haven’t a chance, both as patriotic and American as apple pie and Constitutionalists as they are. that is a very deep well to get out of – it might be different if they had even the support of half of the voter eligible women in the country – but they don’t.

Huntsman is just another liberal democrat under the facade of being a RINO Republican.

Most of America knows that Newt knows his stuff, but they are remembering his failure as Speaker rather than the good he did do, and his walking out only clinches it.

Perry, especially if he could hook Marco Rubio into VP would be the very best chance against Obama.

But, it won‘t matter a tinkers dam who is president if you don’t fix the Senate.

      ========================================
Ron Paul would be the very worst choice out of all the known candidates. In fact, his presidency would be almost as bad as Obama’s. To get a clear insight of what I’m getting at you must first study Libertarian philosophy and the ideology it shares with Anarchism. He would be a danger to the security and safety of this nation.
Hire him to do something about the Fed, but for Gods sake do NOT elect him as POTUS. That would be a nightmare for us.
Plus, think about this… his people know he cannot win the primary so they already have plans to have him run on another Party ticket after he loses the primary. That means that whoever WE pick during the primary he is going to challenge them in the general. This means Obama wins 4 more years because of the votes his chuckle-head supporters siphon off from OUR pick. Does this sound like a man looking out for OUR best interest? NO is the correct answer.

But then the choice would be too easy, and the establishment wouldn’t want that. 30+ years of consistently voting against taxes, gun restrictions and unbalanced budgets is just too hard to swallow. Voting against obamacare and the patriot act and other unconstitutional bills still doesn’t persuade people. if they understood his forgien policy. (He is not an isolationist! he is an non interventionist)
If people want a return to the constitution not a dismanteling of it
then Ron Paul is the best and really the only one!
all others will increase the debt and size of Govt. they will just do it slower than the dems maybe.
Ron Paul would actually reduce and eliminate whole departments not enlarge them!

My father, a lifelong democrat, 30+ year educator, one-time Reagan voter in 84 and one-time Perot voter is now voting Paul this election. He watched the debates and has switched parties to vote for Ron Paul. He can’t stand Bachmann. His first mention to me tonight was how few questions in the last debate were toward Paul, and was mainly about the two pretty-boys Romney and Perry. I find it funny that someone so unelectable has a wide range of appeal. Like most Americans, he’s tired of the unending wars and sees them as a problem financially w/ the debt and unemployment problems. He likes Paul not because he agrees with him on everything, but sees him as one of the few who isn’t going along with the other Republicans. If Rush Limbaugh dis-likes Paul, then Paul is the right guy to vote for in his opinion. The same is true w/ the fox news channel and cnn in his opinion. What I find funny is the media’s treatment of him is helping his cause with disenfranchised democrats and independents.

What I find funny is that many of you here won’t say Bachmann is unelectable, but even if she were to win the primary she‘d likely lose to Obummer She scares the hell out of independents from what i’ve seen. She would be better than Obama, but the “queen of rage” label has some elements of truth to it. Paul has a much better shot at reaching independents and democrats like Reagan did in 1984.

KEEP DOING YOUR MASTERS BIDDING. They tell you he cant win…so you swallow it and do as they bid. And then you spew the same things from your mouth. Get a spine, stand up for your rights, speak as a free man. But that would be unthinkable for sheep.

Ron Paul is against Big Government ????? LIE! Ron Pork: 51 earmarks requests totaling $358,303,155 from libertarian favorite. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) was one of only four House Republicans to break rank from the party and request earmarks despite a Republican Conference earmark moratorium. Paul sent 41 earmark requests totaling $157,093,544 for the 2011 Fiscal Year. His largest single request was $19,500,000 for a naval training ship at the Texas Maritime Academy in Galveston, followed by a $18,126,000 to provide maintenance on the Matagorda Ship Channel.

For Fiscal Year 2010, Paul requested 54 total earmarks, adding up to $398,460,640 in pork that the former presidential candidate sought to bring home to his district.

      @REPUBLICORP

You’ve been on here long enough to know exactly why Paul earmarks bills. Paul never votes for the budget because it’s too bloated. Money not allocated to earmarks gets re-claimed by the executive branch of government. Paul sees earmarks as giving tax money back to those in his district. So the question that you need to answer is it better for Paul to earmark bills to his consistency in his district or give the executive branch those funds for their pet-projects? I’m going to love your answer on this one.

He tested it with the poll “What is your favorite color: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Ron Paul?” Guess what? Ron Paul won that poll handily.

The only people taking Paul’s straw-poll win seriously are Paul’s acolytes. Paul wins pretty much every straw poll held anywhere in the nation, because the Paulite ship of fools always show up to flood the ballot box. The gadfly Ron Paul (actually he’s a Libertarian quasi-Conservative, not a well rounded Republican Conservative) clearly wins the prize for the most committed supporters (or needing to be committed), but they can’t bend reality. Paul mops up the straw polls, then flops when the actual voting starts. FLOPS, lol.

The time has come to take a stand against the powers that be. And wheather or not Ron Paul is poetic, attractive, or old and crazy looking doesn’t really have anything to do with government adhering to the fiduciary duties of upholding the Constitution.

Have you even read a single book Ron Paul has written? His stances on most topics are simply CONSISTENT with a literal interpretation of the constitution. No where does the constitution point out that United States should police the world and premtively strike out at other sovereign nations. If that was the case, why wasn’t the United States mandated to join in the French Revolution or premptively strike at Germany and Japan before WW2? Its hogwash. Saying the United States foreign policy didn’t cause 9-11 is lying… it lets you sleep well at night, but seriously, if the United States minded it own business and protected its own borders instead of having its nose and interests tied up in middle-east affairs, it wouldn’t have driven the extremists to their most extreme. I agree that a Christian nation wouldn’t have retaliated by flying planes into buildings, but the United States should have known who they were provoking and what they were capable of. You are NOT a conservative if you believe in imposing your control over others through force of arms, you are a NEO-CON… and not worthy of the name. If you hold the idea of the inalienable rights of mankind at the core of your beliefs, then you are. The United States must stop taking the natural rights away from the citizenry of other nations and be a light-post of freedom, honour, and liberty to the darkness that covers this world.

Our military overseas is not stopping that. Our TSA is not stopping that. Nothing is stopping it. Bring the boys home and I assure you, it will not get worse. Far from it, things will slowly begin to improve as the world finds less and less reason to hate us. People talk about Iraq as if it is the 51st state. It isn’t. We don’t need to “do something about Iraq”. It is their freakin’ business what they do with their country. That is not our soil and those are not our people. LEAVE THEM ALONE.
