Ron Paul: Dump TSA, Privatize Airport Security

Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman Ron Paul said the Transportation Security Administration should be replaced with private security firms during an interview Friday. Speaking on Fox News, Paul — who introduced the American Traveler Dignity Act this week — said the security responsibility should be on the airlines instead of the government. “It’ll make it efficient. There’s no history to show government bureaucrats are ever more efficient than the private market,” Paul said. “The government was in charge of security before 9/11 and they did a lousy job.” Paul acknowledged his plan would result in higher ticket prices, but would ultimately lead to lower taxes. “They’ll do a better job…they’re not going to take X-rays of you in the nude, they’re not going to prod and poke little kids and 95-year-old women,” Paul said.

It never should have existed in the first place and now your willing to compromise and don’t give me any of this “ we will create jobs baloney ” – they can be created in a principled and ethical manner. Report Post »The cost of airport security is already born by ticket fees. Dr. Paul seems to be lobbying for special interests in the security field. Maybe some of his constituents are looking for a profit source.
Dr. Paul is repeating the off told lie that private firms are more efficient. Private firms are inherently less efficient because they require about 10% of resources devoted to profit. Government is always more efficient, especially when compared to firms as large as the airlines.
Dr. Paul’s criticism his fellow legislators is probably just psychological projection.
Now airport security abuse is accountable to the people through their elected representatives. This accountability disappears if security is privatized. The result is less freedom.
If Dr. Paul was a protector of individuals right to privacy he would be calling for the elimination of the current intrusive and ineffective searches. Instead Dr. Paul is using a ridiculous “free market” argument the will result in a further deterioration of individual’s right to privacy surrendering them to private firms.

I have a TWIC card, which cost $300, is good for several years, required a background check, fingerprinting, and comes in a ‘smart card’ format, with said information stored in encryped form. Something like that for regular customers, frequent flyers and those who would jump the hoops to get ‘cleared’ would take 70% or more of the burden off the check-in process. Perhaps the balance would have access only to an abbreviated schedule of flights for ‘non-certified’ clients! There simply HAS to be a better way! We DO NOT NEED this government behemoth, which now is getting unionized! Abolish it, ENTIRELY!

Even if they took 20-50% profit, private businesses are far better than govt running it because they in fact are far more efficient. Have you ever worked in either one? Posted on July 8, 2011 at 7:29pmI’m liking Mr. Paul more and more. I can’t stand the TSA. They ruin my vacations. I hate flying anymore. I don‘t want to be exposed to radiation and having naked pictures of me stored on a computer and I don’t want creepy people touching me. We went to Jamaica this year and on the flight home ALL females, regardless of age, children too, were thoroughly body touched and searched before being allowed to board the plane. This occurred AFTER we were in the jetway. Our boarding passes were scanned and we were sent to the jet way. Customs and security people then stopped all females to perform this touchy feely crap in full view of all of the males boarding. The men were told to keep moving along. They were not allowed to wait for us.

Holder is the freaking Attorney General who ordered the actions. He knew about it in 2009.

He really is the only true “constitutional candidate” who will not sell us out and he will get rid of the Fed once and for all, which is #1 on my list – well after getting rid of Obama. I just pray we win and he can still dissolve the Fed without winning the Presidency. It is America’s only hope.

Forget privatizing the TSA and allow them to Intelligently Profile like Israel. Profiling is the best way to keep us safe, then again the profile could be wrong.
