Ron Paul on Contraception Mandate: ‘I Think It’s a Rather Silly Argument’

On Piers Morgan’s show Friday, Rep. Ron Paul took to the air with his own unique take on the contraception mandate currently causing so much trouble on the Hill. Unsurprisingly, whereas other sources have denounced the mandate on cultural grounds, Paul chose to address the issue entirely from the perspective of its worrying implications for government power.

“I just don’t like the government in this business,” Paul told Piers Morgan. “I’m stronger in believing the market works these things out…I think its a rather silly argument about who’s going to get free birth control pills.”

Watch the video here:

Paul’s comments reflect a wider Republican about-face on the contraception mandate, and an attempt to focus the debate on another topic beyond the subject of contraception itself. Rick Santorum himself told Sean Hannity that contraception is “not the issue” when asked about the same topic. That reasoning is the same reasoning that Darrell Issa used when he first rejected Sandra Fluke as a witness regarding the contraception mandate, explaining that she lacked any expertise on religious freedom.

If access to contraception for all women is a net public good, we ought to do so. I believe it is, therefore I believe we ought to do so. I will vote for, and pursue public policy to this effect, unless I can be convinced otherwise by rational persuasion. Ron Paul’s vague assertion of “government intrusion” doesn‘t buy traction with me any more than Santorum’s 13th-century arguments and sense of morality–if the government’s action achieve a net social good, it ought to pursue those actions; what is the purpose of government existing otherwise?

The role of government is to protect the rights of the people, not to manage experimental population control schemes. Who are you to say what is a net social good. Why is it alway my rights that have to stepped on for your “Greater Good”. How many of the people you love or even admire today are here because their parents didn’t use birth control – Since most forms of birth control are pretty effective probably all of them.

Paul is absolutely right that it is NOT INSURANCE. It’s a program! It is a program where nobody has any skin in the game except the outsiders who pay for it in a TAX/Mandate/Freebie at their expense.
As a matter of fact OBMACARE MAKES “INSURANCE” ILLEGAL because it also denies the ability to treat one over another based on their ability to pay. So what happens to insurance? There is no reason to buy any! Obamacare also makes it illegal to pay anything to go to the front of the line. So what good is insurance to you?

I’m still trying to figure out what Ron Paul means when he says “honest rape?“ Is that opposed to ”dishonest rape?’ I see Ron Paul the politician conflicted with Ron Paul the doctor when it comes to emergency contraception. He seems to be rather vague…almost wishy washy. It‘s like he’s talking out of both sides of his mouth… to appeal to both sides on the issue.

To abort or not to abort… that is the question…

“honest rape” actually committed. “dishonest rape” so called for the sole purpose of getting a free abortion.. BTW PP has ruined many lives beyond the babies. PP does not council anyone. They will exploit a woman’s/girls fears for the purpose of making a buck on an abortion, even in the case of a real relationship where the man is left entirely out of the loop. It happens. And as soon as PP gets involved it WILL happen!
PP is a self interested CORPORATION with a product to sell. Obama talk about this all the time.

LOL. So I guess most Ron Paul supporters will put Ron Paul/Newt Gingrich 2012 when they end their comments. As we know Paul is an expert on the matter of White supremacist groups aligning themselves with him, almost to a man and woman, throwing their support and $$ Paul’s way.

I’m assuming that Ron Paul will contact Newt and give him pointers on how to use these groups to benefit his campaign. I‘m also assuming Newt won’t bite and repudiate the endorsement of this fool (no not Ron Paul… the other wizard)… unlike Ron Paul’s repudiation and $$ acceptance over the years.

KID. LMAO! Show me the Newt Gingrich version of the “Ron Paul Newsletters” and show me where Gingrich actively sought out an endorsement like this. Ron Paul also used the mailing list from an anti-semitic magazine called “The Spotlight” years back to get $$ for his Congresional campaigns. Show me anything remotely like that in reference to Gingrich and then you have something. Fact is… Ron Paul has been actively pandering to racists, bigots and anti-semites for years and caching their donation checks. Even posing with them.

Dr. Paul always looks at the big picture. That‘s why many don’t understand him.

Just like at the debate in AZ when citizens asked about the US dumping their toxic waste on AZ. All candidates looked puzzled and more or less said it’s a matter of negotiation and money.

Dr. Paul said it‘s a STATE RIGHTS issue and it’s up to AZ to decide and the Feds shouldn’t be mandating to the state.

Ron Paul all the way to the WHITE HOUSE!!

And Mitt is in BIG TROUBLE. he wrote an op-ed in USA Today advising Owebama to embrace the INDIVIDUAL MANDATE!!

    http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/mitt-romneys-advice-for-obamacare-look-at-romney

    He also said this:
Our experience also demonstrates that getting every citizen insured doesn’t have to break the bank. First, we established incentives for those who were uninsured to buy insurance. Using tax penalties, as we did, or tax credits, as others have proposed, encourages “free riders” to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others. This doesn’t cost the government a single dollar. Second, we helped pay for our new program by ending an old one — something government should do more often. The federal government sends an estimated $42 billion to hospitals that care for the poor: Use those funds instead to help the poor buy private insurance, as we did.

Virginia, I hope your citizens are paying attention. DON’T VOTE FOR MITT!

Elect the Jeffersonian statesman – Ron Paul!

I’m a Paul supporter and lover of Liberty for the rest of my life. The GOP can act like they actually care about the constitution and actually care about our rights and civil liberties, but Paul is the only one I can actually trust to do what he says he will do. I seriously don’t care if the GOP wins or not, I want someone who will slash spending and reduce the size of government. Boy do we need a true third party in this country. Paul is amassing delegates, but it’s a long shot. I‘m voting for Paul and I’m a registered Republican. If Paul is not on the ballot as VP or Pres, or offered a real position inside the next administration I am done w/ the Republican party for good. The Republican party has become nothing more than the fascist wing of the big government party, and the democrats are the socialist/communist wing.

You have to wonder about election fraud when you have candidates like Romney in cahoots with Trump and Goldman Sachs. Romney cannot pull supporters into his rallies, Santorum is able to pull in about 600 or a little more, but Paul packs them in at every event. Here is a comparison of Romney vs. Paul: http://twitter.com/#!/WhereIsTheRage/status/174624897845305346/photo/1/large

And here is an overview of how many come to listen to Paul: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=ebgph_ToT40

I agree with Ron Paul on cotraceptive and abortions, leave it to the states. It is a silly issue for the federal government to be involved. I like R Santorium but he is making personal preference on this one. Women believe it is a personal choice, not to be made by anyone else. The government has bigger issues that need immediate attention. Smaller government would mean less involvement in this issue.

The mandate is not really about contraception and abortion. It is about forcing all employers to provide free services, even if those services violate their religious beliefs. Once the 1st Amendment regarding freedom of religion is infringed, it would not be long before the freedom of speech and of the press would be a thing of the past.

Do you think you will care about birth control pills when the economy collapses and people are raping and killing the streets? Do you think the guy labeled a terrorist( tea party member) when indefinitely detained will care about birth control pills.
