Ron Paul Slams Debt Super Committee: ‘Monstrous’ and Unconstitutional

Texas Congressman Ron Paul was interviewed by Lou Dobbs on Fox Business News yesterday, and pulled no punches in his assessment of the “monstrous” debt super committee. He expressed dismay that Congress wanted to abandon its responsibility to legislate to a small committee, asking:

“Where in the world did that come form and what is that going to lead to? That is monstrous. I keep looking and looking and I cant find any place in the constitution where we have the authority to create such a creature as the super congress.”

The Congressman then moved to an even broader concept — that writing regulations is the same as writing laws. That turned the discussion to the Supreme Court, which has effectively given the EPA extra-constitutional abilities to write regulations (laws) on all environmental matters without consulting the Congress.

Rep. Paul lamented that the super committee and the general trend of agencies creating their own laws is ”not a good sign for constitutional government…. Congress is supposed to write the law.”

Seriously the only guy in the congress with a brain to know whats going on and a pair of balls to stand with his principles. not like these fake tea party guys (Allen west disappointed me more than anybody). i feel like im constantly disappointed by my party. The funny thing is i always picture a progressive as rich or hippy pansies, but every time there’s a confrontation they ALWAYS punk us out. now almost no cuts, tons of debt, unconstitutional super congress, and now were faced with cutting military while our boys are still in the wars or raising taxes. dont be fooled we lost….. big time.

Of course you lost – did you ever think you could really win? Progressives have been running this country since Wilson. As usual – The Citizens of the United States are too little and too late and divided. United we stand, divided we fall – and we’ve been divided from the beginning – it‘s just now that it’s too late as everyone has, since the end of WWII, decided it‘s all about ME ME ME and as long as I get mine or it’s not hurting me – who cares about the other guy.

I agree; not sure how bad these guys will be, but there should not be so much power placed on so few people w.r.t. budget issues imo. The Constitution required that Congress control the budget, not a super committee and this is definitely unconstitutional. If stupid things start to come of it (i.e., gun control regulation and other violation of Constitutional rights), then it will be time to take your pitchforks out folks. I also agree with you about West. Extremely angry at him for not seeing the big picture. Also, to those who believed that we had to pass this budget debt ceiling agreement to save the Market, well you got your answer today. :)

well i have to say its not over yet, europe is 20 years ahead of us in terms of there socialism and progressive philosphy. we all see the future in europe we all see what will happen if we stay on this path by looking there. it did take 100 years to get to where we are today, however the progressives had to fight against the constitution, property rights, and human rights. we on the other hand have the constitution, property rights, and human rights on our side to ride the whole way back on a wave of freedom. im beginning to doubt the politicians(Romney, Perry) and media pundits(Hannity, Rush) who only want to win the next elections instead of trying to change the philosophy of people about the governments role through principled stances (should have been the debt ceiling) even if it takes more time…. we will win in the end. As Ronny Regs once said: Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women.

LYLEJK, who’s to say what would have happened if they did not pass the bill? It could have been MUCH worse! I did not want it to pass, I would have voted no. But none of us have a crystal ball and I can respect West for standing on principle, at least he did not hide behind the RINOs like some did. The bill was going to pass, it was a done deal from the beginning. You have seen this kabuki show before, all the rhetoric is just smoke and mirrors to keep us from seeing the real dealing. I respect very few of them, West is still on my good list even though I disagree with this vote.

Ditto, Nomolibs! I’ll tell you something else that is going to ruin the military and that is this idiot federal judge who ruled that Rumsfeld can be sued personally for doing his job. Since the President dictates to federal judges and all other federal and military employees, I’m really especially uneasy about what he is up to this time. The impact of that judge’s decision is going to cause quality military personnel to be less interested in re-upping, much less doing anything on the job that might land her/him in court. Anything! And any quality recruits out there are going to think long and hard before joining the mlitary now knowing that these self-righteous judges, dictatorial government officials, and totally worthless members of Congress will make them personally liable for doing what they’re told to do by their supervisors and agency manuals. And the jeopardized officials will have to pay for their own legal counsel, too. Tell me how many people employed in the government and military you think can afford legal counsel for one lawsuit after another. This can only have come from the Muslim President and the likes of Cass Sunstein and Eric Holder. Oh yes, and from Agenda 21 strategists and George Soros!

      http://markamerica.com/2011/07/19/the-undeniable-truth-about-ron-paul/

“I’ve known a number of Ron Paul’s supporters, and they seem to have some very good ideas, but the ideas they offer aren’t in any way impeded or tempered by reality. While I also like some of Ron Paul’s positions, he suffers from an all-too-convenient naiveté with respect to certain issues that make of him a questionable candidate at best. Despite his virtues on some very important issues, his moral agnosticism on others brands him unsuitable to restore the American nation, now wounded and bleeding profusely in the escalating Obama disaster.”

Americans may not be capable of returning to Constitutional principles. here’s an excerpt from an interesting piece………

Note carefully that traditional Western moral virtue is not a sweet sentiment or a generalized concern for mankind in the abstract. Virtue is a matter of character. It means making the best of self and acting responsibly toward real people, which means that morality is hard. To make love of neighbor particularly difficult, real people are frequently less than pleasant, and they may be our competitors. Behaving charitably may require strength of will. Virtue shows itself, thus, not in high-sounding phrases or teary-eyed “compassion” but in responsible conduct.

Compare this older Western and American ethos to the common modern notion of virtue. The latter can be described as morality in the abstract. Unlike the older virtue, it does not presuppose improvement of self. It can be espoused by the worst of human beings, by people who are very difficult to live and work with. These same individuals can ooze benevolence for people in the abstract and talk incessantly about “justice,“ ”human rights,“ and ”the common good.” They can advocate schemes for sweeping social and political change. In fact, the wider the scope of their virtuous project, the more compelling is supposed to be the evidence of a superior morality.

But this abstract and self-congratulatory virtue cares about nobody in particular. It is morality made easy. Anybody can do it

I’m voting for Ron Paul for Prez. I don’t care who the nominee is. My prediction is that the morons around this country will select Romney to run against Obama. There‘s no way I’m voting for either of those two. My hope is that enough of US can have the BALLZ to vote for a 3rd party guy. I’m so tired of this “wasting your vote’ nonsense. Voting for people like Romney is more of a “waste” than voting for the right guy who probably won’t win. If enough of us vote for the right guy, regardless of whether or not he can win, we can at least make our point known. We can show others that if only they too had the courage to vote for the right guy and not worry about “wasting” their vote, that right guy probably could have won. Then maybe the next time, he will.

P.S. I too am disappointed by Allen West. He was the one guy I was actually excited to vote for last year. He won’t be getting my vote again.

Is this the same Ron Paul that wouldn’t have killed OBL? & Paul (AKA 30yr Tax Junky)l sent 41 earmark requests totaling $157,093,544 for the 2011 Fiscal Year. His largest single request was $19,500,000 for a naval training ship at the Texas Maritime Academy in Galveston, followed by a $18,126,000 to provide maintenance on the Matagorda Ship Channel.

For Fiscal Year 2010, Paul requested 54 total earmarks, adding up to $398,460,640 in pork that the former presidential candidate sought to bring home to his district. These requests were made prior to the House Republican Conference’s voluntary ban on filing earmarks.

Paul’s largest request in 2010 was $51.5 million in federal money to be spent on “Reconstruction of Bluewater Highway Hurricane Evacuation Route Between Brazoria and Galveston Counties in Texas.” He requested another $50 million to be directed to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and $46 million for deepening the Texas City channel. The majority of Paul’s requests were for projects related to various ports and channels, though other sectors of his district also received attention, such as $20 million for a hospital in Chambers County. Even smaller projects received attention from the libertarian representative, such as $2.5 million requested “to redevelop historic downtown area and to purchase trash cans, bike racks and decorative street lighting” in Baytown

Here we go again, I’ll just paste this comment over and over until you get it through your numb skull:

Dr. Paul has gone over this ad nauseam, you must be willfully ignorant. EVERY CENT of a spending bill should be earmarked, if the money is NOT earmarked you are giving the executive (in this case Barry) a blank check. Dr. Paul does not want these spending bills to begin with, and he votes accordingly, but if one is proposed, he will try to get every cent back to his constituents possible, akin to filling for every possible tax deduction you can.

How can you not understand this?

As much as I feel earmarks should be eliminated 100%. Those numbers you stated were lame in comparison to the amount of spending going on in D.C., and all of those earmarks sounded like good ideas, to benefit the military, tax-payers and small business. Paul is not perfect, and I don’t agree on a few things he does or believes. But he is an American Constitutionalist, Anti-Establishment and doesn’t place the global elite above the interests of the American people.

I suppose my response would be that Ron wants to end the welfare state. And as such, without a welfare state illegal immigration would solve itself. We probably would not care about it any further.

Freedom and liberty for all. Protectionism is not the way forward. Of course, now that there are more jobs in Mexico…

I’m not entirely sure why so-called conservatives make such a big deal about illegal immigration. What’s the threat? I’d prefer an open border police once we end entitlements or they end us. If you come here, you gotta make it on your own.

Less than perfect? lol! You must not have checked out the link because Paul is barely better on immigration than Obama. In fact, he is the worst of all the Republicans running for president. So is there any difference between Paul and Obama on immigration? Maybe enough to make a difference to you.

      FATLIBERTARIAN ~

“I’m not entirely sure why so-called conservatives make such a big deal about illegal immigration.”

I will venture a guess and say that you do not live in Illinois, or California, or some other state that welcome the illegals. Gov. Quinn signed the Illinois Dream Act -
      http://www.voanews.com/english/news/usa/Illinois-DREAM-Act-Becomes-Law-Amid-Immigration-Reform-Debate-126761978.html -
which gives more college assistance to an illegal child than to that of a child of a soldier. That is a big deal to me. I now have to pay for that.

“I suppose my response would be that Ron wants to end the welfare state. And as such, without a welfare state illegal immigration would solve itself.”

To that I say ‘great’! But how long would that take to be implemented? E-verify needs to be mandated and employers should be punished in the mean time. Little steps first. And who can argue with securing our borders? We have the right to protect ourselves.

i did look at the link and i don’t like what i see… the difference between him and obama?….plenty… i can count on Ron Paul to follow the constitution for one thing (and that’s a biggie), i would bet he will streamline the regulations and the bureaucracy for legal immigration/work visas not make it harder, more complex and more expensive like obama would,
i wont like some of what Ron has to say, but he is still worlds ahead of the RINO candidates (all of them) i am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in some areas in exchange for getting a constitutionalists…

i think ending entitlements will do a lot for the problem by attrition, and i have never heard him say he would vote against good plans for illegal migration (if they are constitutional)

Ron Paul is everything that he acts like and he means it, I don’t ever recall seeing a hidden side to him. I am more impressed with him than most other people that I know. He really is a great guy and I’m proud to know him. You would be very surprised what would happen if he took over in the way of the illegals coming over and all the other stuff. One thing for sure is that you cannot say that he is not a man of his words and his words are his actions. It’s called being an honest man!

      @Republicorp:

What makes Paul different? Well, let’s see…

      1) You get to actually SEE what spending he wanted in his district. It’s not just shooed under the rug, and he didn’t vote to just hand a wad of money to Obama, for the discretionary spending of Federal departments. You can SEE where the money goes, with Paul’s method. By the “normal” method, you just dump tons of cash into the system, and it vaporizes.

      2) How much money did Paul’s district send to Washington, in the first place? I‘d bet they’re still behind the eight ball, with what came back in the way of Paul’s earmarks.

Really, Paul’s way is the only HONEST way to do the budget.

This latest vote to raise the debt limit is where we strt building the lists of who stays and who has to go!!!

It would be great for someone to actually publish that list. I mean all of them, R&D

As for the Presidential candidates here is my breakdown, as far as I am concerned
Bachman = too worried about being popular, will not be able to stand up to establishment.
Palin = Strong Relate-ability but not presidential material just yet. No Plan
Christie = NOT RUNNING, not yet
Perry = Possible Closet Globalist and will turn out to be a RINO (Bush Repeat) catering to the establishment
Herman Cain = Shill for the FED, has no political experience, NO PLAN, but good intentions?
Gingrich = Joke, Choke, Progressive RINO
Huntsman = Democrat in Republican clothing (Obvious) RINO
      Santorum = RINO
Ron Paul = Restoring the Constitution, Small Government, Free Markets and HAS A PLAN with SOLUTIONS!

P.S. I know there are others but they don’t even register on the meter.

With all the Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama appointees on the court, Senators would doubtless be found to have no standing to bring any kind of action.

We, the People, seem to have no standing to bring suit against the government for the egregious violations of our Constitutional rights, so why would our representatives, a class once removed from us, have standing?

I think Bachmann was implanted to be the ‘first woman’ ‘tea party’ President. Herman Cain was placed for the black guilt, tea party voters who want to prove they are not racist. I really think the planners are covering all their bases, offering the widest variety of candidates and letting them battle it out until one stands out and they rally around them. I don’t think they placed a 75 year old with a message to end the fed. That would be suicide. I do think Ron Paul is sexiest 75 year old I’ve ever seen, though.

We not only need to get rid of them in 2012, we need to repeal the 17th amendment, set term limits, take away special percs and thr retirement system. Our legislature needs to become a government of citizens who serve and then return to their homes without all of the percs they have voted themselves. That is the type of government our founders envisioned, not a government of professional politicians.

I like many things Ron Paul believes in.

What creeps me out, is that many pro-palestinine and anti-israel people love him so much… I suppose some people accuse Ron Paul of being anti-semite because he is anti-zionist. But anti-zionism and anti-semiticism often go hand in hand… He has promised no interference between both countries if he was president, and completely severing helping the Israel state. I don’t think he is an anti-semite, but I see where he is coming from its more a value of American Isolationism to keep our nose out of the world’s affairs (stop the world police thing)… But I also see the danger in that, turning on one of our best friends in the middle-east the closest to holding our values as a nation…

But I think it explains why pro-palestinians and anti-israel people would love him to be president though, because I think they think they would then get away with attacking Israel, and he would simply ignore it..

I also don‘t necessary support his and Barney Frank’s pot freedom bill… So he works over the aisle with the far left liberals. On the one hand, I do agree we are too hard on many repeat pot offenders.Getting life in prison due to some ‘three strikes law” over a joint seems a bit much.
