Ron Paul Still ‘Hasn’t Decided’ Whether He Will Support Romney for President

The rumors of a conspiracy between Ron Paul and Mitt Romney were apparently premature. As the former Massachusetts Governor coasts towards the GOP nomination, Paul himself told CNS News that he “hasn’t decided” whether to support the nominee. This is a marginally more encouraging sign from Paul than has been seen in the past, but given his reasons for being undecided, Romney supporters shouldn’t get their hopes up:
“I want us to stand for something,” Paul told WMAL. “You now, for fifty, sixty years, we change parties, but we never change policy.”[...]
“Which Republican other than myself would look into the Federal Reserve?” Paul asked.[...]
“I don’t see how that would happen. There’s too many disagreements,” Paul said. “I like Mitt Romney as a person. I think he is a dignified person and I–you know, I have no common ground on economics. I mean, he doesn’t–he isn’t worried about the Federal Reserve. And he isn’t worried about the foreign policy. He doesn’t talk about civil liberties, so I have a hard time to expect him ever to invite me to campaign with him.”
Except for the Federal Reserve point, the irony is that all of these reasons arguably place Paul closer to Barack Obama in terms of philosophical predispositions than Romney – a point that was not brought up in the interviews where Paul has spoken on the topic. Posted on April 2, 2012 at 9:26pmAs far as I can tell……..the third party vote will elect Obama again as it sounds like they did the first go round. I will have a clear conscience……..as many others will also. I see no beam of light shineing on any of the four or those that dropped out. I dont even see any one on the horizon. The important thing is to try to get someone that at least resembles someone conservative……….if thats all we have to choose from. I would choose Rommy over McCain any day. Any day. I would vote for Paul over Rommy or McCain……..and Newt. I would not vote for Paul over Santorum. I will not vote third party. Those that do vote third party are dooming all. But then on a happier note……maybe enough that voted dem. last time will decide to vote rep. this time. Lotus.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 9:32pmI really hope Ron Paul has the guts to run 3rd party. I mean you started a movement Ron, and your base has grown much much greater than the “Legalize it”crowd. Lets follow through with it, and run 3rd party!!! Lets beat the odds and show that the media, money (which I love by the way), and parties do not control us!!!
All I have is my vote, I will not have it taken away by the jedi mind tricks of the media touting “a vote for paul is a vote for obama”….the only reason this mind trick becomes true is because lemmings fall for it every time….Not true at all, my vote is for freedom, and i’m going “all in” on it with my vote.

The media, paid trolls, and rigged primaries sabotaged him and you want us to bow down and kiss the R ring? Screw that! Republicans and Democrats both SUCK. And as far as I can tell, they suck about the same. Moderate Republicans, should have sided with the Libertarian base rather than the whacky-ass religious right. So why hasn‘t Ron Paul remained in third party status if he’s so damned good and stayed away from carpet bag‘ing into the GOP for election purposes if we’re so bad. Paul is a con, but not a Conservative. He’s here to divide and nothing more when he enters Presidential politics. He’s a self-serving narcissist. Not a team player. I hope he goes third party, so he can doom Rand Paul and we can stop this Paul Revolution once and for all…

Of course, obama campaigned on a humble foreign policy, less war, and more civil liberties but as president – he has been completely opposite. Obama has stoked more fires around the world, started multiple new wars, signed NDAA, and doubled down on the government spying and militarization of the government.
So the reality is that obama’s foreign policy is more like the other three republicans than ron paul…complete nonsensical journalism

I think he would leave them alone and let Israel make them glow in the dark. They would deserve it if they got it. That’s their business if they want to die. I also think he would make and example out of any country that directly attacked us or blocked our trade routes. Has Christian morality, believes in the Constitution and is a fiscal hawk. By today’s definition that would be “right”. The kids love him too. That could help save this country.

The primary process is a process for a reason
I’m all for people voting for the guy they want now and then getting behind the nominee (whoever it may be) in November. A 3rd party candidate is bad though. It will most definitely divide the party and give Obama a huge advantage.
Furthermore, how can someone run as a Republican, lose the primary and then switch to a 3rd party? That’s bull.
Vote for your guy now. But get behind the 1 and only nominee when this is over.
We need to unite for the sake of our republic!

Posted on April 3, 2012 at 12:22amI‘m actually ecstatic about our country’s future. Thanks to Ron Paul it will only take 2 election cycles to totally destroy this ridiculous 2 party from the same momma system we have. The R’s once again do not learn from history repeating their 08 nominee with a moderate war monger who has no chance of winning not matter if he can try to pull a Sarah Palin lite out of his hat. No one gets elected on the VP pick ***insert John McCain***…..
There is no difference between the R’s and Obama.
– Cut spending? Nope just cut proposed increases (Just like Obama)
– Balance the budget? Nope Ryan‘s plan doesn’t do it for 30 years (10 years later than Obama)
– End the wars and tillions spent on them? Nope can’t wait for the next country to invade (Just like Obama)
– Wants to give the people back the power that government has stolen from them given to them by the Constitution? (Nope, Same as Obama No freedom is off limits for government to take)
Congratulations “Republicans” you have just became the pre-civil war “Whig Party” with just 2 election cycles! Hopefully Ron Paul pulls enough support in the general from both the R‘s and the D’s so when this currency collapses because of your R & D policies we can have someone who actually believes in the Constitution in office to restore our country back to the way it was designed.to be. 2012 the death of the Neo-Fascist-Marxist-Republicrats!

“In a long-forgotten tape from the 2002 Massachusetts governor’s race obtained by ABC News, Mitt Romney is seen touting his Washington connections and his ability to get millions of taxpayer dollars from the federal government.
“I am big believer in getting money where the money is,” Romney says on the video, “The money is in Washington.”
The video, which was surreptitiously shot by Democratic opponents of Romney on Oct. 16, 2002, shows him addressing a group called the New Bedford Industrial Foundation. The Power Point presentation he uses lists ways to improve economic development in Massachusetts, including “boost federal involvement.”
“I want to go after every grant, every project, every department in Washington to assure that we are taking advantage of economic development opportunities,” Romney tells the group.
And while Romney now often criticizes his opponents for being Washington insiders, in this video he touts his Washington connections.
“I have learned from my Olympic experience that if you have people who really understand how Washington works and have personal associations there you can get money to help build economic development opportunities,” Romney says.

Expanding the size of government (No Child left behind, Medicare part D, George Bush/Rick “Frothy” Santorum)(Creating state run health care, Mitt Romney)(Balancing the budget by stealing from the Social Security Trust/Newt Gingrich) is the EXACT opposite of capitalism!
Government produces nothing therefore has NO CAPITAL to spend on these “projects.” The spending on these products REQUIRES confiscating CAPITAL (Wealth) from the capitalist system to fund them and distribute that CAPITAL to others. Expansion of ANY government program in any form is no different than what Obama tried to do with healthcare, REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH PERIOD……

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 8:41pmits funny how you value his supporters so much but you dont value his ideas. His ideas are the same ideas of the founders – but you would rather play politics. The republican establishment has already made it clear that they do not respect his ideas. It is possible the republican voters will demand it – but that has little to do with what ron paul does
Report Post »Johnny Cocheroo
Posted on April 2, 2012 at 8:49pmYour premise is off Eugene. You assume that that every voter will either vote for an “R” or a “D”. You also assume that Paul supporters are first Republicans, then conservatives. The case may be that once Paul is off the ticket – the 10% block of his followers may stay home.
“anybody but Obama” What is the ticket was Obama vs Van Jones? I am sure many Paul supporters feel that way about Obama vs Romney.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 8:19pm“Except for the Federal Reserve point, the irony is that all of these reasons arguably place Paul closer to Barack Obama in terms of philosophical predispositions than Romney”
You can’t be serious. That is purely fabricated, distorted, opinionated commentary.
Obama has basically extended all laws that Bush signed into law that dealt with national security. In fact, Obama, like Bush, have made the Government BIGGER, eg. TSA, DHS, NDAA, etc. In fact, Obama and the other three candidates domestic policy regarding national security are about the same.
Paul is more inline with Mr. Conservative Goldwater, not Romney.
“I told Johnson and old colleagues on Capitol Hill that we had two clear choices. Either win the [Vietnam] war in a relatively short time, say within a year, or pull out all our troops and come home.” – Goldwater

If RP says vote Romney because he is a republican, we just won’t vote at all.
Ron Paul is not the leader of the liberty movement, he is just our best candidate. If he turns his back on liberty we will drop him like a hot potato.
That said, I don’t think RP will support Romney now or in the future unless Romney makes promises that turn this country around. This is not the last election we will have to fight for, we will be fighting until the day this country turns around or until the day we find a better place to go (and that place hasn’t shown up yet).

What was his message – he didn’t have one, he ran attack ads. You don’t know who you are supporting or what he stands for.

I will not blame the RIGHT of the people to vote for whom they want. You’re getting mad at voters who will not vote for the Republican nominee. I as a Republican, will make sure to vote for the best candidate in the primary, and will vote for the nominee. That’s MY right. I will not blame others for exercising that right. While many people assume he endorsed Bob Barr or Chuck Baldwin Ron Paul also endorsed Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader in a vote-for-one-of-them proclamation.

Posted on April 2, 2012 at 8:34pmIts because of people like me. There are a good 10-15% of people currently voting in the Republican party who plan to bolt if the party does not become more libertarian.
Recent polling suggests that if Ron Paul goes independent, he will take 17% of the vote.
When thrown in the mix, Libertarian hopeful Gary Johnson polls at 9% against Obama and Romney. If Paul decides to endorse Johnson, his numbers could rise above 15%
Paul leads the Americans Elect primary process. If he is drafted, or if he and Johnson decide to partner on this ticket, they could poll higher combined than either does individually.
If any of these scenarios occur, there will be three candidates in the presidential debates, as in 1992.
