Ron Reagan, Jr. Mocks Palin Speech at Reagan Center

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sarah Palin is honoring one Reagan and offending another with the same speech. The former Alaska governor is scheduled to speak in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Friday at a tribute to former President Ronald Reagan — just one of the celebrations marking the centennial of the 40th president’s birth on Feb. 6.
But his son, Ron Reagan, tells The Associated Press he doesn’t see anything in common between his dad and the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, who was invited to speak by the event’s sponsor, the conservative Young America’s Foundation.
“Sarah Palin is a soap opera, basically. She’s doing mostly what she does to make money and keep her name in the news,” Reagan says.
“She is not a serious candidate for president and never has been,” said Reagan, a political independent whose politics lean left.
But former Reagan speechwriter Kenneth Khachigian praised the choice of Palin to discuss Reagan’s legacy.
Palin was a teenager when Reagan took office in 1981 and like many young people “their lives and philosophy and political fortunes were shaped by the Reagan era. She can reflect on that as well as anyone could,” Khachigian says.
Palin is expected to talk about Reagan’s 1964 speech, “A Time for Choosing,” which he gave on behalf of then-Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. In it, he touches on themes he would revisit for years to come, including the dangers of high taxes and encroaching big government.
Palin’s political committee did not immediately respond to an e-mail Thursday seeking comment.
Palin was introduced to the nation at the Republican National Convention in 2008, and her folksy, wisecracking style sometimes earned her comparisons to Reagan, who was known for his wit and appeal beyond the traditional Republican base, especially with blue-collar Democrats. She frequently referred to Reagan on the campaign trail, and in her debate with Vice President Joe Biden reprised Reagan’s famous rejoinder from his 1980 debate with Jimmy Carter, “There you go again.”
But Palin, now closely aligned with the tea party movement, has become for some a polarizing political figure.
Tea partiers rail against soaring public debt and sprawling government programs like Social Security and Medicare, but public debt roughly tripled on Reagan’s watch and he did not attempt to dismantle Social Security or Medicare during his term, says Reagan biographer Lou Cannon.
“He was no tea partier,” Cannon says.
The Young America’s Foundation was founded in the 1960s to promote conservative ideas on college campuses, and it purchased Reagan’s former ranch in 1998. The foundation is not connected with the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.

Posted on February 5, 2011 at 9:59amThe pot calling the kettle black…………
Sarah Pallin has more in common with Reagan than his own son. Yet Ron Jr. has the stupidity to speak of it in public; therein proving the saying of it is best to remain quiet and thought a fool, versus opening his mouth and removing all doubt.
I don’t listen to Levin, Hannity, Beck or Limbaugh……don’t need to. I’ve been listening to 92.1 here in Madison, WI to hear what it is the other side is talking about and how they think……unbelievable intellectual corruption/bankruptcy!! The scary part is they actually believe what it is they are saying!
RJ was speaking about how at one point in time the country was “flourishing” with a 90% tax bracket. The country was doing great DESPITE the 90% tax rate…….not because of it!!! With the strained economy we have at the moment, try that $#i! now and see what a 90% tax rate will do for us…..dumba$$!!

Posted on February 5, 2011 at 10:12amHYENA, I remember hearing a left winger progressive one time on C-span explaining how the taxes on all people should be 100% across the board (save for congress) and that all the property should also be taken at the same time.
Communist heart at its finest, yet the deluded fellow then went on to state that with the 100% taxes, and seizure of all properties would see a higher return for each year of the next ten years; and when one fellow member of the house asked him how there could be any kind of money left over after the fed’s had taken everything, the original speaker just looked at him stupidly and said “we will just have to raise the taxes even higher then.”

Posted on February 5, 2011 at 9:50amIf anyone is a soap opera it’s Ron Reagan,Jr – His ‘Coast to Coast’ failed miserably and the only reason he had that gig was because of his name. Palin, like the former President, believed in the greatness of America. Isn’t it always the case that when a conservative makes money they are attacked? What exactly has Ron Jr. done with his life? Has he ever served on a school board, been mayor of a town, fought corruption in his own party, was instrumental in developing our natural oil and gas resources, been a governor of a state, or written a number one best seller? An objective review of his life will reveal a stark contrast of accomplishments in comparison with Palin,s. But don’t let those facts get in your way. Ron Jr’s. criticism is just another voice of some left elitist who thinks we really give a good damned what this pampered, self indulged, do nothing, living off your father’s name with no achievements of your own, whining brat thinks.

Posted on February 5, 2011 at 10:49amAmazing..the Palin critics..they’ve becoma a parody of themselves and have allowed the media to attempt to destroy a percieved threat.
Yet, they approve of a President that has done NOTHING but F##*ed up…from the start..He waited 3 months to name a Treasury Secretary, a tax evader who actually contributed to the banking crisis in his former job, and let the markets fall apart because he couldn’t come up with a plan.
Then this so called smart President..****** $800 billion taxpayer dollars he called “Stimulous” so unemployment wouldn’t go above 8% (two years later, still at 9%)..Well, we all know how that turned out..fake “jobs created” numbers..remember they were reporting jobs in Districts that didn’t even exist..some jobs that were created..in order to create them cost $300,000 for a 40,000 job. Brilliant guy, right?
Then he spends a year, selling a health care plan that was to bring down our costs..Well, we saw them rise 30%, A plan that no one knew what was in it it nor did they read it..Remember Pelosi “U have 2 pass it B4 U know what’s in it” Passed in the middle of the night..767 waivers have been given/requested 40% to the same Unions that assisted him in selling it to dummies..Anothor brilliant move..BTW, he removed the “death panels” in December..remember the ones the moron said didn’t exist..turned out PALIN was right..the moron was wrong.
Let’s not forget the mess of the Xmas bomber..his brilliant pick of “The plan worked” Napolitano.oh..and let’s not rush to judgement about whether it was terrorism..
Which leads me to the FT Hood murders..Mr..Teleprompter..Let’s not call him a muslim terrorist…no this guy had so many anti-American statements they gave him a promotion in the Army..Yes what brilliance Obama has..
Then let’s talk ab;lout the oil spill..40 days before he says a word..First President Brilliance comes out with ” BP is responsible for everything, then he comes out with we will share responsibility,, finally Mr. Run and hide..finally says the US will take charge..yes to those who watch my version of SNL (CBS<NBC<MSNBC<CNN)..he just is the "one"
Now Mr. President ..wants his own devout morons to be less vitriolic..they ignore him..and become more vitriolic..Let me mention the MSM disaster of Tuscon. They all had it wrong from the beginning and pointing blame in the totally wrong direction (why waste a chance to demonize Palin)..and morons continue to follow the propaganda machine.
Finally..Egpyt..Mr.."Do I really have to respond, when I could be golfing or planning my SuperBowl Party" President..how long did we wait? How unclear was he?
So..to those folks who continue to buy this President is smart..please ..he may of been book smart..but he he's not a doer..he's a seller..of himself..he sold the morons a bag of goods..but he had no executive experience and it has shown throughout this Presidency..and our country has paid for it..BIGTIME.
Palin..so much SMARTER, so much MORE INTEGRITY, so much MORE EXPERIENCE:
Mayor
Palin on the other hand has over her life..has worked..gone from PTA..to Mayor..to State Oil Commissioner to Governor..she knows how to lead..As Governor she went after political corruption..the type the current "President" embraces with open arms.
On her time as Mayor "In 2008, Wasilla's current mayor credited Palin's 75 percent property tax cuts and infrastructure improvements with bringing "big-box stores" and 50,000 shoppers per day to Wasilla. local gun store owner said Palin made the town "more of a community … It's no longer a little strip town that you can blow through in a heartbeat." At the conclusion of Palin's tenure as mayor in 2002, the city had about 6,300 residents. Oh yea..and she reduced her own salary by 10%..maybe that's what scares dems..she does what she says she going to do..
AS GOVERNOR (before she was famous):
Palin declared that top priorities of her administration would be resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development. She had championed ethics reform throughout her election campaign. Her first legislative action after taking office was to push for a bipartisan ethics reform bill. She signed the resulting legislation in July 2007, calling it a "first step," and declaring that she remained determined to clean up Alaska politics
Palin frequently broke with the state Republican establishment. For example, she endorsed Sean Parnell's bid to unseat the state's longtime at-large U.S. Representative, Don Young, and she publicly challenged then-Senator Ted Stevens to come clean about the federal investigation into his financial dealings. Shortly before his July 2008 indictment, she held a joint news conference with Stevens, described by The Washington Post as intended to "make clear she had not abandoned him politically."
Palin promoted oil and natural gas resource development in Alaska, including drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Proposals to drill for oil in ANWR have been the subject of a national debate.
In 2006, Palin obtained a passport and in 2007 traveled for the first time outside of North America on a trip to Kuwait. There she visited the Khabari Alawazem Crossing at the Kuwait–Iraq border and met with members of the Alaska National Guard at several bases. On her return trip, she visited injured soldiers in Germany.
In June 2007, Palin signed a record $6.6 billion operating budget into law. At the same time, she used her veto power to make the second-largest cuts of the construction budget in state history. The $237 million in cuts represented over 300 local projects, and reduced the construction budget to $1.6 billion.
In 2008, Palin vetoed $286 million, cutting or reducing funding for 350 projects from the FY09 capital budget.
Palin followed through on a campaign promise to sell the Westwind II jet, a purchase made by the Murkowski administration for $2.7 million in 2005 against the wishes of the legislature. In August 2007, the jet was listed on eBay, but the sale fell through, and the plane was later sold for $2.1 million through a private brokerage firm.

Hitchens pegged her best commenting “she is a proud boastful ignoramus” and I will add a disgrace to America, disingenuous to the value of thought while stuffing her coffers with money gained through her incessant need for selfish justification.
Palin represents the vile stink this nation needs to overcome and regain our place in the world as a free thinking society that values education and despises willful ignorance.

If liberals have no reason to complain, they have no reason to live. For them, there is always some new ’cause’ to take up, some new ‘injustice’ to put right. Liberals are perpetually and professionally offended. They call themselves, in their self-righteousness, ‘fervent’. What they don’t know is that Stalin, Hitler, and every dictatorship ever formed tends to exterminate its most fervent supporters.
Liberalism is an ongoing act that doesn’t really want the stage show to end. If everything libs wanted came to pass, they would either have to find something new to gripe about or all commit suicide because they no longer have a purpose.
Personally, I prefer the latter.

Such posts are the stuff of second-graders. And deny as we might, their content is legitimate reason to be accused of being bigoted against gays. The same is true when we call President Obama the “boy president.” Never think that such vitriol is irrelevant to independent and centrist voters. Making ourselves feel better each other by piling on with childish slurs only detracts from our electability as a philosophy and a movement.

Because she is for real and not a phony liar like Obama and the left? Because she believes in this country and its greatness. Because she believes in the constitution as written and not something that changes with the mood of the libs and socalists. Because she can gather people into a cohesive group with nio violence and wild retoric and lying rants.

Posted on February 5, 2011 at 3:27pm“But Palin, now closely aligned with the tea party movement, has become for some a polarizing political figure.”
There’s nothing like “polarizing” for better clarity.
“Tea partiers rail against soaring public debt and sprawling government programs like Social Security and Medicare, but public debt roughly tripled on Reagan’s watch and he did not attempt to dismantle Social Security or Medicare during his term, says Reagan biographer Lou Cannon.”
Reagan was a President, not an treasonous “dictator” with non-elected “czars” doing the dirty work (as presently occupies the White House). It was the Democrat majority Congress that did not dismantle it’s unConstitutional “Social(-ism) Security” and Medicare … was their duty, to protect & defend the Constitution of the United States Of America.

Good technicality catch. Progressive(communist) Franklin D. Roosevelt had the first czars (lots). Ronald Reagan had a czar (one … that’s it). Czars have acted as advisers (only!).
The difference between Reagan and Progressives(communists) Presidents (like Obama) is Obama is using his czars for bully (read “threatening”) with the “power and prestige” Office of the President, unchecked by a willing-accomplice-Progressives(communists) Congress, to intrude into areas where his administration has no legitimate Constitutional business. This is law-breaking, at best, and conspiracy to commit treason, at worst! And it‘s at it’s worst.
