Rounding Error? Obama Understates Deficit by $2.3 Trillion

WASHINGTON (AP / THE BLAZE) — A new assessment of President Barack Obama’s budget says it underestimates future deficits by more than $2 trillion over the upcoming decade.
The Congressional Budget Office estimate says that if Obama’s February budget submission were enacted into law it would produce deficits totaling $9.5 trillion – an average of almost $1 trillion a year.
Obama’s budget foresaw deficits totaling $7.2 trillion over the same period.
The difference is chiefly because CBO has a less optimistic estimate of how much the government will take in from tax revenues, partly because the administration has rosier economic projections.
The Senate is also worried about the president’s budget numbers.
This exchange between Jeff Sessions, the Republican Senator from Alabama, and Heather Higginbottom, the new nominee for Deputy Director of OMB, is from Higginbottom’s confirmation hearing, which took place yesterday. Sessions grills Higginbottom about Obama’s budget, and boy is it painful to watch (h/t Hot Air).

We need to demand as a nation that we have a ballanced budget, it has to be! We need to run the business of the country like that of an actual business, we cannot continue to spend what we do not have. We must demand a Constitutional Ammendment to Ballance the Budget once and for all! enough of the numbers games, accounting tricks etc. No more borrowing, we must pay our way as we go, if we don‘t have the money to do something we just can’t do it. Just like in real life, if I run out of money then I’ll have to wait till I get paid. I can’t rob my childrens piggy bank to do what I want with their money.

We have grown comfortable with lies: about budget projections and budget deficits; about what is a need and what is a right; about the very definitions of liberty and justice and republic and freedom, even salvation. I have stopped watching almost all television news, particularly morning and commentary shows, because the lie is perpetuated daily that we still need to hear both sides of a story or argument or theory before making a decision about what to believe. I believe that you and I are well past this point: we know what to believe, and it is now a matter of whether we can successfully convince the majority of America before there is no longer an America to persuade.
I am all for having a laugh, seeing the lighter side (read many of these post, with cute or snide or gallows humor). I have described myself as a serious man with a sense of humor, and it is fine when it only affects a few people. We are talking about the long-planned destruction of the Republic, the last light of man in a world where nearly the only light left is cast by the fires of war. If this is God’s will, then so be it. But I can’t lean back in my easy chair and have a giggle about it. I am writing, I am getting better educated, I am praying more. I am looking for opportunities to get more involved in my community and beyond. I am doing what I can to prepare my family for hard(er) times. I am ready to speak publicly if opportunities arise.
Richard, in addition to expecting a balanced budget and a change of direction toward liberty and the rule of law, we must expect the honesty, integrity, decency, and personal and professional accountability that are absolutely essential – from leaders and lobbyists, indeed all of us – if we are to succeed and this country return to the path envisioned by our forefathers.
