TAMPA, Fla. — Sen. Marco Rubio delivered a stinging indictment of Barack Obama Thursday night, declaring that he’s not a bad person, just a bad president.
Addressing the Republican Nation Convention on its final night just before Mitt Romney accepted the party’s nomination for president, Rubio said the past few years under Obama have driven America backward, not forward, and that “hope and change” have become “divide and conquer.”
“Our problem is not that he’s a bad person, our problem is that he’s a bad president,” Rubio said. “His new slogan for his campaign is ‘forward.’ Forward? A government that spends $1 trillion more than it takes in? An $800 billion stimulus that created more debt than jobs? A government intervention into health care paid for with higher taxes and cuts to Medicare. Scores of new rules and regulations.”
“These ideas don‘t move us ’forward,’” Rubio said. “These ideas move us backwards.”
Speaking at length about American exceptionalism, Rubio — whose parents immigrated from Cuba — declared that Romney understands what makes America special.
“Mitt Romney is running for president because he knows that if we are willing to do for our children what our parents did for us, life in America can be better than it has ever been,” Rubio said. “Mitt Romney believes that if we succeed in changing the direction of our country, our children and grandchildren will be the most prosperous generation ever, and their achievements will astonish the world.”
Weaving in stories of his own family background, including a father who worked 16 hours a day as a bartender and a mother who worked as a maid, a cashier and a stock clerk, Rubio said he grew up knowing there was no limit on how far he could go in life because he was an American.
“We’re special because dreams that are impossible anywhere else, they come true here,” Rubio said. “That’s not just my story. That’s your story. That’s our story.”
He framed the November election as a choice not between two political parties, but “a choice about what kind of country we want America to be.”
“To make sure America is still a place where tomorrow is always better than yesterday, that is what our politics should be about, and that is what we are deciding in this election,” he said.
Rubio said Americans need to make sure that future historians can write that despite living in an uncertain time, the nation “did not allow fear to cause us to abandon what made us special.”
“We chose more freedom instead of more government. We chose the principles of our founding to solve the challenges of our time. We chose a special man to lead us in a special time,” he said. “We chose Mitt Romney to lead our nation, and because we did, the American miracle lived on for another generation to inherit.”

That said, they have no problems voting for the handouts that the rest of us will be taxed to provide them. When they themselves don’t feel the pain of rising taxes, you can’t expect them to do anything less. They aren’t going to bite the hand that feeds them.

On another note, do my fellow Republicans feel the new rules are good/bad for our electoral college system in the Republican Party? The kind of rules that were implemented are only generally found in quasi-oligarchy’s systems of government. I feel that they were wrong and negative to bringing the different views together.

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 12:06amSorry Dora…not quite true. The problem with Obama’s medicare is that a good percentage of Doctors are no longer taking it, because they can’t work for free. When 60-70% of Doctors stop taking medicare, you will see why these cuts and Obamacare is such a big failure. My own mother, who has fought arthritis for years cannot find a doctor to treat her condition now, because her doctor of many years retired. Not because he was 65…but because he could no longer afford to support his practice because a good percentage of his patients were medicare patients. He couldn’t work and support his office staff only earning 10% on the dollar. Obamacare is a disaster that they are now projecting will cost 3 times what they first “estimated”….and it hasn’t even taken full effect yet…. Probably by the time it does, the cost will be 5-6 times more…..or more. Government can’t do anything right….and you really want government to control your health care. Just look all over the world for examples where government healthcare is failing…..why do we want to emulate failure??
Report Post »cloudmcrain
Posted on August 31, 2012 at 12:34amDora… Learn a little about how the system works before you believe all the left talking points. Reducing the pay to the doctors IS cutting medicare. If you worked for 8 hours a day, and you had the option of being paid 20 per hour or 10 per hour, which would you choose? Doctors are being put in the same situation, which will result in lower care options and a low quality of service of care. This is really basic Econ 101 stuff… Get a clue

Posted on August 31, 2012 at 1:14amHey Gassbag, do you live your life to be this ignorant or were you just born that way? My soon to be 86 year old Mother is on Medicare, just like all people who are 65 years old and older. Each and every year she gets a notice, usually in January, that she has to pay more for her Medicare. The amount is directly taken out of her Social Security check each and every month. While she is paying more for her Medicare, Medicare is paying less for Doctor and Hospital services. My Mom is lucky though as she also pays each and every month to keep her private insurance that my deceased Dad had through his Private Union. If she did not have this, my Mom would never be able to afford her Medication or be able to pay for her Medical bills, which many elderly people face. So by you saying that there have been Zero cuts is nothing but a big lie and show just how ignorant you are.

He is doing it to fulfill some crazy “dreams of my Marxist father” goal. He is trying to fulfill his alcoholic dad’s dream to take down England and American colonialism. Obama has this idealistic, romantic view of his dad given to him by his mom about what a great freedom fighter Sr. was. So Obama is taking up his dad’s cause to destroy imperialistic England and the US. He wants to make the US a 3rd world banana republic to put us on a level playing field with the rest of the world.
